Targeting of "empty trash".

If I'm erasing the files from an SD card, I need to empty the trash in order to actually release space on the card. I know that I can do this within the camera, but when I'm dealing with the results of five different cameras in a project, it is much faster to delete files while the camera is connected.

However, when I "Empty trash" I also empty the trash on my Mac. I'd rather power target "empty trash" to just the SD card because it can be some files in my trash in Mac I might want to put it back.

Any way to target "Empty trash" to just a SD card?

1) open the Terminal and type the following commands:

• defaults write QLEnableXRayFolders AppleShowAllFiles TRUE

• killall Finder

OR

(Inpreference) Download an application that allows you to turn hidden - files turn off.  I use this app which is located in the menu bar: Funter

2) navigate to the SD card on the desktop (and open it to view the contents of a Finder window)

(3) search for and select "trash" hidden/greyed in SD card window

4) press ⌘ - O to open

5) press ⌘ - A to select all files

(6) make a right click or ⌘ + click on one of the selected files, and then select "remove immediately... »

You're done!

(This can be done through the Terminal, if you want)

  • Empty the Trash: file > empty trash should work in any view, not only the display of the trash

    38.3.0 W8.1, W10
It is probably an enhancement request...

Often, I emptied the Recycle Bin. There are 3 things I would like to improve.
    (1) I have to switch to the display of the trash, then on the file menu, select file > empty trash. I should be able to do this from any view.
    (2) the trash is not visibly withdrawn my trash review - I have to move the mouse up and down the display of the trash and then items visibly disappear.
    (3) I would like to be able to put a button in the toolbar to remove all the waste rather than having to go to the file menu.

I've been using Thunderbird is probably 3 + years old and it has been very reliable, I think it's a good product. Updates work fine.
    Thank you

    Nigel

I wish I could put a button in the toolbar to remove all the waste rather than having to go to the file menu.

  • Some accounts have the Recycle Bin instead of the trash icon. Cannot run 'Empty trash' on the record, only on an icon to the trash.

I have four accounts open TB: mine, woman, club and spam. Only mine and spam account display the Recycle Bin icon. The other two accounts have a folder named "Trash". Deleted files go in the Trash files, is similarly in the trash icon files. However, there is a single action, I can perform on files from the Recycle Bin. When right clicking on folders, "empty trash" is not available as an option. The function is available only on folders with the Recycle Bin icon.
Is there a way to get the appropriate folder to the trash with function 'empty trash' in all accounts?

OK - I messed around with the settings more and came across a solution.
1 right-click on the account name in the left pane, and then select settings.
    2. Select Server settings
    3. in the central block under deletion actions, select Advanced
    4. uncheck the "show only subscribed folders", and then click OK
    5. click OK in the parameters, and then collapse the account name in the left pane so not subfolders appear.
6 expand the name of the account. This is - the trash is now a garbage can with the function of "empty trash".
    7. If desired, return to the advanced settings and re - select "show only subscribed folders" and click OK

Don't ask me why this works. It's a total coincidence that I even found it.

  • What happened to the option "empty trash secure?

Installed in El Capitan a week ago.  Went to empty the trash for the first time after the update.  "Secure Empty trash" option is no longer appears. So do not overwrite ransacked files?  That means that they are really still there, just a little more difficult to find?

  • How can I empty trash 'Genius '?

10.7.5, old 32-bit Macbook Pro OSX.

The Genius bar went yesterday to resolve a problem.  During which, the genius deleted all my music, photos and movies by being connected with a disc of Triage and the magic Apple Genius ID.  He stopped at the command "Empty trash" because he took long (approx. 300 GB of data).  Now, my drive is missing that much space.

Any ideas how can I empty the Recycle Bin or restore these files?  (Short to return to the Apple store?)

    Thanks in advance...

You have a backup, if so what kind? It may be interesting to restore if you have a recent backup. Otherwise I would like to backup now if you have a spare drive to use-

even in this State. At least you have a copy if it fails to restore the Recycle Bin.

Have what problem you tried to bring to the store? I have to wonder if start over again with a fresh install is a better option?

It is possible to "put the files"...

Select an item in the Recycle Bin, right click (or use ctrl + click). In the menu that appears, select 'Put back'. It may not be an option (I don't remember which version added this feature, I think that it was 10.6).

It is available "back" may not restore all the files and some files may already have been recreated in the old location (existing preferences for example).

I fear this is can be a messy situation to fix.

It might be easier to restore files from a different user account, where the need for a backup. If you don't know consider the Apple store again for help, but I guess that this situation is a bit difficult for you.

See if others here have a better idea too, it is better not to act too quickly in situations like this, unless you have copies of the data on another.

  • Using terminal to empty trash

I moved my Gallery of Photos on an external drive, changed the location of the external library and deleted my copy on the hard disk. I tried to empty the trash, but he just hung. After looking for an answer, I found a post that suggested using the terminal with sudo rm - rf ~ /. Trash command. Typed and entered password and press return. Some sort of message is displayed after the file has been deleted in the Terminal or how do I know if the procedure is finished and I can restart my Mac. Thank you!

If you get the prompt to enter another command, it is complete.
