TDMS for noobs?

Hello

I currently work with already developed application LabView (we're lockout code). The program records from a camera and is synchronized with the accelerometer data by image (2000 frames per second). The program creates a PDM file.

I am only interested in one of the axis on the accelerometer data. Is it possible to go to the TDMS file just out what I what and export to excel?

I am sure that the whole process is much more complicated, but can someone help?

See you soon

Kamilan

Kamilan,

There is a TDM Excel add on available here http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/epd/p/id/2944. You can export data to Excel PDM. Another option would be to write a simple VI to read the PDM file and save the string data you want in the spreadsheet file.

HS

HS,

There are two ways to store calendar for a channel information in a PDM file.

You can only use the first method if timing information is regular (spaced), which means that it can be described with the only values t0 and dt. This method translates a single channel in tiara which contains data values and stores the calendar as properties on the channel information. Note that in this case DIAdem will treat time as relative values with no basis of absolute time values. The properties you must set on the channel are:

(1) wf_start_offset (mandatory), the type is TDMS_Double, contains the time value t0 of the first data point of some units that you use and can just be 0 if your t0 value has no meaning other than as a reference for all other values of time in this channel point

(2) wf_increment (required), type is TDMS_Double, contains the dt in whatever units you use

(3) wf_samples (mandatory), the type is TDMS_Int32, contains the number of samples in the waveform

(4) wf_xname (Optional), type is TDMS_String, contains the name associated with the x-axis of time and will be used by the tiara to label the x-axis in tracing this waveform

(5) wf_xunit_string (optional), type is TDMS_String, contains a string that describes the x-axis of time units and will be used by the tiara to label the x-axis when tracing of this waveform

You can set the properties above using the TDMS_SetChannelProperty function.

You can use the second method for regular or irregular (not also spaced) timing information. This method translates a channel with your data values and a separate second channel which contains the absolute timestamp values. From your original post, more like what you want. In addition to your data channel, you must create a channel of timestamp. Call TDMS_AddChannel with a data type of TDMS_Timestamp to create your channel of timestamp. Call TDMS_AppendDataValues with the values of type CVIAbsoluteTime to write the Timestamp values in this channel. You can create individual type timestamp values CVIAbsoluteTime by calling the functions of absolute time in the ICB Utility Library, such as GetCurrentCVIAbsoluteTime and CVIAbsoluteTimeFromLocalCalendar.

I hope this helps.

• Tiara taking much time to load the TDMS 700 MB to the data portal

I'm trying to load a file of 700 MB TDMS in DIAdem, sampling frequency of 4 channels 10 Hz for 4 days. When I drag the file in the data portal, tiara freezes, its on a 2GB machine, a file that is located on the desktop, not running other programs and it is went 50 minutes without being able to load before I did leave. seems to work fine, although on smaller files. I was wondering if this sounds normal and if anyone knows a way around him.

Yin

Hi Yin,

You can defragment the TDMS file loading in DIAdem programtically:

TDMSFileName Sun: TDMSFileName = "C:\Dokumente und Einstellungen\GrRomaiS\Eigene Dateien\LabVIEW Data\ttt.tdms.
Call DataFileLoad ("" & TDMSFileName & "","TDMS","" ")

Please note that in this case, you will need to replace at least"<" and="" "&"="" in="" your="" filename="" (not="" contained="" in="" example="" code="">

In addition, we have incorporated a fix in DIAdem 2010 SP1 that will speed up loading files TDMS (for example containing explicit time strings). We hope to see DIAdem SP1 this year...

• TDMS & comparison of Config files

Hello

I'm not really new to the community, because I got a lot of queries that have already been asked before, and I found an answer here, so far. I studied up on top of TDMS (file > Group > Channel) and its conceptual hierarchy seems to be very similar to the configuration files (file > Section > key). Now, I think that it is possible to use the model TDMS for both configuration files apart from measurement results, but I thought I should ask...

What are the advantages and disadvantages of TDMS Config files (*.ini) vs?

I have not found so far any form of comparison between the two. I would like to personally exempt accessibility Notepad the file of configuration as a benefit because it would be best to restrict access to the system from unauthorized users settings.

Yes, I would consider even using PDM to store key/value data because it is designed for streaming time series of data on the disk.

I think that if you want the human readable config files then INI files are the way to go - especially with some functions in the MGI toolboxes for read/write anything (for example, the clusters as sections) in an INI file.

If you want to protect the config file then I think I would probably recommend some kind of binary file format - probably something like a SQLite database like that lets you easily look up values. If you want to go further - place the file in a hidden place (for example % ProgramData %) and making a sort of reversible encryption of the file content would help protect content against unauthorized viewing/changes.

By experience, using the read/write of MGI what it functions of INI files have been the best solution, we have developed with until we decide to consider using a SQLite database. Teh that if you Exchange cluster configuration, he manages to read the fields that are present and uses the default values that you specify if they are not done it is handy when you need to change the cluster in a future version. Certainly flatten LabVIEW functions XML don't do this - if the definition of type changes then I think it returns an error.

• TDMS write a comment in the middle of Data Acquisition

Hello

I am currently using TDMS for my data record. Currently I log data from a Keithley module via GPIB connector.

Essentially, I want to save data in intervals and during the recording of data, I want to have a comment section where I can write the changes that have been made.

It connects every minute and I want to add a comment in the minute 5 for example. What is the right way to apply it.

Thank you

I would use a loop that is dedicated to writing in the PDM file. You can then send commands/data to this loop in a queue. You could a single command to write your DAQ data and another for observational data. I would connect all the data data acquisition in a group and observational data in a second group. That will make your file much easier to understand.

• Sometimes my VI does not add an extension of .tdms and corrupts data

I have a VI in Labview real-time, which generates a number of timetraces containing voltage readings. I use the .tdms for this format. Most of the time it works perfectly, but sometimes it won't add the .tdms for my data extension. All resulting data is stored on my PXI system, but it's corrupted permenantly because no program will recognize this file type it is. Furthermore, I can't change it somehow, or even remove it. I tried to use webVI, but I get and error: file not found.

The same thing happens in Filezilla, I try to delete, move, or rename the file and get an error: "file not found".

These files hold massive amounts of space on my hard drive PXI, but I'm unable to remove or retrieve them. Any ideas?

Thank you

Right-click on the control of the chain, then select 'limit to the single line '. This will prevent line breaks.

So, I was unable to find his Manager. On google I found this laptop IDT Manager exist then why Miss me on my laptop. In the case where for noobs yes I reinstalled drivers form audio hp support.

Guys give me feedback what to do.

Okay, that's a very clear answer. And im not happy with this. Not all providers do it as you say it's a lie. Why realtec comes with Manager audio soft preistalled? He never comes withuot it doesn't matter it is desctop or laptop. I think it's a thing of HP company to save money on low end pc parts, as a sound card as the card wifi and must be others (ralink, idt, terrible cooling system). As I said I saw on idt hd audio Manager google exist. So it must be pristalled with all the pc hp usess idt hd audio. Like to see HP began selling horses with 2 legs if understand you what I mean.

Sorry for the English spelling is not my mother tongue.

Ok. I have sloved my problem myself. thirst first I uninstalled the idt with whole software drivers, restarted the pc, windows has istalled base hd, form downloaded audio drivers drivers HP again, he unpacked in my chosen and installed foldger. Went through Control Panel and found ""Dolby advanced audio v2 " it wasn't there until I checked several times." So now I have full control of my sound card or let as much as it good for my needs. I hope that this will help others to slove the same problem if they have.

• File from an executable of LabVIEW PDM

Hey, I am writing a program that measures a bunch of stuff and saves to a TDMS file (as it is by far the easiest method and fast, I found). I was wondering, once that my program is converted into an executable, files are still viewable TDMS in Excel/OpenOffice, or viewing requires NI Diadem. Computers, on which the executables will run will not necessarily installed LabVIEW.
I would like to try myself, but let us, I am not worthy of a developers license...
Thanks in advance

"are the PDM lines visible in Excel/OpenOffice?

Yes! the format of a file *. TDMS files do not change between the development environment and an application built.

That being said, the imported PDM of addon for Excel automatically installs with the LabVIEW development system and may not already be on target when you deploy your executable. Do not fear however! the addon TDMS for Excel is FREE and available for download here

• PDM-2503 error. Is apparently corrupted the file can be recovered?

We made a quite expensive test with several instruments and gauges on a specimen and recorded data in a PDM file. Before we conducted the test, we recorded in a 'dummy' file tdms for a few minutes and then re-examined the record to confirm that we have been properly recording all gauges. Everything was fine and we knew we were ready to test.

We then recorded during the test and the TDMS file ends up being about 400 MB. After registration, we have tried to open the file and received the following error:

"Error-2503.
Possible reasons:
LabVIEW: specified file does not have the TDMS file format standards. »

There is no trace of this error on the forums, or anywhere on the site. The data is there, the file is huge. We just need to find a way to get it back. These data are very important to us. Is it possible to analyze the PDM file and retrieve the data?

Any time we try to open the file somehow, we get the same error. We tried to open it with the importer of Excel PDM, PDM open file.vi, PDM defragment. No luck. The error seems to occur in the file.vi open tdms.

The file is very large or I would post here. Help, please

I solved the problem.

I was trying to guess what part of the tdms file was corrupt. I was getting ready for a long day to change the bits/bytes to fix corruption, which I did in the past and is never fun, but it was not necessary. With the help of a file parser (http://www.safer-networking.org/en/filealyzer/index.html) I could see that the data were there and the headers are correct in all of the data in the tdms file. It doesn't seem to be any wierdness in the beginning or the end of the file. He told me that the problem was probably in the index file. I had reviewed the new advanced tdms screw LabView 2010 and was looking for something that could help me. The Open.vi TDMS Advanced mentions that he deleted the index file and open the file PDM. I thought that maybe he would re-create the index file. There can be no. The index tdms file has been recreated automatically when I open the PDM file and it re-created correctly. The data is there. The file opens correctly this time. All right. He leaves definitely wondering which caused corruption in the first place and how to avoid it in the future.

Solution:

Remove the PDM index file. The importer of Excel TDMS re-create the index file correctly when you open the file. The file is opened without error for me.

• PDM with timestamp and different design tab

Hi all

I would like to ask how I can get readings from two sensors of tension and save them in the .tdms format. However, these readings will be continuous and long, I need a file .tdms for daily management purposes. I would like once again to management purposes were reading for each hour of the day in separate tabs.

In addition, if convenient, I would date/time next to each reading (total three columns - 1. 2 time.) 1 sensor # 3. Probe No. 3).

I know that partial solutions to this problem are everywhere, but I'm not as competent in LabVIEW to gather this information. If you could help me I would be very happy!

Thanks in advance!

Different "tabs" in a TDMS files are for different groups (I assume you are using the Excel TDM plugin). So all of the hours you need start writing to a different group.

In order to obtain a data column for time, just write data in time as well as your other data. I do not remember if you can write a value of timestamp for a channel, but at the very least, you can write a double for seconds.

However, I would recommend writing waveforms or a time value and dt beginning as properties of each channel or group. Time data can be calculated easily later and would really just be wasting space in your file.

• The Question Daqmx upgrade

Hello

Sorry, I'm just a simple question that I can't find anywhere clarification.

I'm running on XP SP3, LabVIEW 2010 SP1 with Daqmx 9.1.7 with installed MAX.

I want to use the new screw TDMS for Daqmx 9.3, so I plan on upgrading to 9.4 (this update will affect the LabVIEW project, I am working currently on, of the forum messages previous forum, since I'm on > 9.0 already, it shouldn't be a problem).

I don't have internet connected to my computer, and it will be a troublesome organize, so I was wondering for the upgrade, do I just go to MAX > tools > update and who will help me to update my Daqmx driver? Or should I download the 9.4 from here and install it? If it's the last option, do I need to uninstall first the 9.1.7. If I can't uninstall it and risk losing things, then I download on this computer, and then transfer.

Thank you

Lester

Lester,

If your computer is not connected to the internet, then you will not be able to update the driver through MAX because MAX Gets the update through the internet. The best solution in your case would be to download the updated driver from the link you included, and then install it on the computer that you want to upgrade. There is no need to uninstall an earlier version of NOR-DAQmx as the download will automatically update your previous version. You do not lose the features of your LabVIEW project.

Good luck

Allison M.

• Amplifier to lock in place - please help

Hello

I am running a series of laboratory experiments that require SOME out the s signal low levels. I capture data (25kS/s) and writing to a file TDMS for me to post process the data. I'm capture two channels, the data signal and a reference signal (from the optical chopper in experience). The reference is to 800 Hz, and the signal is virtually sinusoidal, but variations in amplitude according to the measuring point.

With help, I turned the table 1 d of the TDMS file waveform a 2D array and enter garlic (see attached). I'm pretty happy with the configuration of the PLL. Feedback en returns between 750 and 800 Hz (depending on how long a sample I, currently use 0.05 s so about 40 cycles of the signal). However, I do no output of GARLIC. I wonder if my filter configuration is incorrect?

Perhaps could you give some advice.

TIA.

This sorting.

Another rookie mistake! I had forgotten to connect the input 'Apply' to initialize the PLL and the receiver.

• Automatic files in Excel import of PDM

I was looking at the NI TDMS for Excel import plugin and it seems that the latest version of the plugin uses the COM API that could allow to import feature be used automatcially. There is a page of brief info on this here http://zone.ni.com/devzone/cda/tut/p/id/10207 but I am new to Excel Macros and VBA, so I don't know how to get this tutorial what I'm willing to do.

Specifically, I wonder if anyone knows (and could see an example of) how to do the following:

Starting in a labview VI, the user would choose a path to a PDM file. Once the path is selected, the VI would call the PDM import excel plugin and run it on the file.

After playing with things, I discovered the solution to this, and I'm posting for everyone in case it may be of some use. To use this solution to work out of the box, you will need the report generation tool. If you don't have that, you would need another way to launch labview Excel and run a macro. I hope that someone who has the knowledge of how to do which will display the part in this thread for those who do not have the Toolbox

To begin, open excel and in the menu bar, select Tools-> macro-> Visual Basic Editor. The source of the macro that you create is:

Void TDMImport (fileName)
' Get TDM Excel Add-In
Dim obj As COMAddIn
Set obj = Application.COMAddIns.Item ("ExcelTDM.TDMAddin")
obj. Connect = True

"Only confirm importing ' Description' for root properties."
Call obj. Object.Config.RootProperties.SelectAll

"Show County group under the name of property.
Call obj. Object.Config.RootProperties.Select ("Groups")

"Select all properties available for group
Call obj. Object.Config.GroupProperties.SelectAll

"Import custom properties".
obj. Object.Config.RootProperties.SelectCustomProperties = True
obj. Object.Config.GroupProperties.SelectCustomProperties = True
obj. Object.Config.ChannelProperties.SelectCustomProperties = True

"Import the selected file
Call obj. Object.ImportFile (fileName, False)

"Record to the bottom of the active workbook
Dim workbook as an object
Set workbook = ActiveWorkbook
End Sub

Once you have copied/pasted into the editor to go to the bar and hit file-> export the file and save the macro under one. BAS file

You will also need to go to tools-> macro-> Security and select the Visual Basic Project Trust so that the macro be called from LV

Once all this is done, you can use the attached VI (recorded in LV 8.6) food just the way DOWN and the TDMS file via the controls on the front panel and click Run and the PDM import will be done automatically.
