Tecra A9 - LCD display very Dim

Hi all!

My Tecra A9 age of 4 years has recently developed a problem with the screen. While using it, I heard a zap and the cut screen. He has not worked since. I was able to plug it into an external to continue monitor to use it even if.

But I found that the screen is not actually dead, its just very dim. If I look closely and shine a torch above, I can see what is on the screen. Which leads to believe me its something to do with the backlight of the LCD screen.

Also, I checked, and this isn't a problem with the sensor thinks the lid is closed.

In any case, I would like to know if anyone has an idea on what the problem is specifically? If so, is the kind of problem that I can fix myself or do I need someone from Toshiba to do for me?

Thank you!

Hi Matt89,

I agree with Akuma. If an external monitor works, it looks like that the FL inverter is faulty. This inverter controls the backlight of the internal display and even it would be defective you can see the picture but very very dark.

If think the best would contact an authorized service provider. Guys can order a FL original inverter which is compatible and replaces it for you because the screen itself must be dismantled, and that's not easy.

If your laptop isn't under warranty gift more worry because FL inverter is not so expensive. :)

Can I fix it myself? What parts do need me?

    Certainly sounds like your backlight.

It is possible, but it occurs and you need to disassemble the laptop and the screen.

It's your guide to service and maintenance:

    http://h10032.www1.HP.com/CTG/manual/c02985882.PDF

Page 30 shows the diagram of the screen.

The problem is most likely the inverter,

Still, I would recommend that you have a HP or authorized service center for repair.

You can call HP and arrange the repair, it will cost much more than the only part though, as it covers labour and shipping in both directions.

  • Backlight problem Tecra A2 - image is very small

    Hello
    I have a Tecra A2 with a backlight problem.
The LCD displays properly, but without any backlight, the image is very low.

When the laptop is started is turned perfectly for about 3 seconds before turning off. Boots of portable code and can be used with an external monitor. If I close it now the backlight of the laptop turns on for a few seconds before turning off again. I tried a new Backlight Inverter which had no effect. Sensor lid closed is the magnetic type (no doubt a reed relay) and measure 100Kohms when open? and 0 ohms when closed.
This 100K would be the problem?

Everyone knows one of these symptoms or matter that has any backlight data converter, I wonder if I have a second faulty inverter.

This could be a faulty back light FL problem?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    You're just Philip.

For me, it looks like the defective inverter FL too
You said that the display on the external monitor looks fine. So we can eliminate a GPU fault.

I think that your should contact the ASP in your country. The technician must check the defective part (probably FL inverter) and need to replace it with a new, compatible.

    > I wonder if I have a second faulty inverter
I see you've already replaced the inverter a FL and the issue still seems hmm to be honest, I think you used a bad, but who knows that nothing is impossible.

Then ask the technician to ASP for later handling

    Best regards and good luck

  • Satellite 1800: Fault pin plastic LCD display!

"Look at the LCD display screen. If you can see a small image on the screen, backlight fluorescent display screen can be disabled. Light of a flashlight directly to the screen will make it much easier to see if or not there is a screen image actually present, but not turned on. On most Toshiba laptops, there is a small plastic or metal pin near one of the LCD cover hinges. When the display lid is closed (closed), this PIN is pressed against an internal switch that turns off the backlight, saving battery power. You can turn on the backlight by pressing repeatedly on this PIN. The normal screen image will be then suddenly appear or reappear. »

It's a recommendation, I took for my Satellite 1800 Toshiba help suggestiuons... However, when I type the PIN, she don't flick the backlight on and then turns off very quickly. I can't stay!
It drives me crazy and I can't find anywhere on the net wherer this fault is mentioned.

The problem has gradually worsened over time. I used to be able to move the angle of the screen and tapping the PIN to operate. But now, I don't have a chance so he could stay forever! I think I have to open the screen and check if the PIN needs to re - solder or perhaps the FL lamp wire is pinching somehow...

I do not know... I am far from being a geek... also... What does FL stand for?

    PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE HELP.

    Hi Liam,

The description of your problem suggests that the FL inverter has failed. It is a component that provides the background lighting for your screen.

Normally when you close the PIN you are talking about depresses a switch that turns off the UPS FL. If you can get a momentary illumination of you LCD when you prod this switch I think the inverter FL itself is defective.

The bad news is that you will need to take your laptop to a partner of authorized Service for repair. The good nes, it's that the FL inverter is not one of the more expensive items.

    Kind regards

  • Dual Cinema Display get dim

After installing 10.11.5 one of my two Cinema Display 30 '' continues to go dim.   I can force them to get more light but it always just continues to go to the side Sun its own.

As it has a mind of its own!

It's already happened, but I have no ideal how to solve this problem.

    Help!

    Hi Rubalcava Boan,

Thank you for using communities to Apple Support and for details on your screen. I understand that one of your displays will dim on its own and you want to avoid that from happening.

The first thing you want to do is check your set display using section below.

Connect multiple monitors to your Mac - Mac Help

If everything is configured correctly, the next step that I recommend is to try changing the cables or test with different cables to ensure that there aren't any problems with your cable. If you have any other Mac that you can test on who can also help determine if there is a hardware problem.

If you're still having problems after performing these steps, the next thing that you can try resets your MSC. Reset it will not erase your personal data, it resets just a few hardware settings the steps for this are easy.

Reset the SMC on Mac desktops

Follow these steps for iMac, Mac mini, Mac Pro and Xserve.

    1. Stop the Mac.
    2. Unplug the power cord.
    3. Wait 15 seconds.
    4. Reconnect the power cord.
    5. Wait 5 seconds, then press the power button to turn on the Mac.

Alternatively, you can take a glance at this article for a list full of what the covers of SMC reset.

Satellite M40-265 LCD displays the image complete but crushed on two-thirds of the screen

When my Satellite M40 - 265 ATIMobility Radeon X 700 and omega 3.8442, Windows Xp drivers, Sp3 boots by setting the LCD + analog RGB, initially only displays on the external screen after startup can be switched with Fn + F5 on LCD. Then appears on the LCD, the complete picture but only two thirds of the screen, third, the right is black. It works so well when the external monitor is not connected during the boot.

When defini set to auto, select the display to the computer starts only when an external monitor is connected, then after that, I spent in the LCD screen.
Damage to the inverter is excluded as already checked. Inspect visually the cable of the LCD displays nothing. Beside the left speaker, a ground wire (black) to screwed, but it is s t connected anywhere.

Starting in safe mode is possible to use a display fullscreen on external

    Hello

The M40 is a not sure oldie about the available settings in the BIOS and in the graphics options, but I think you should check the settings of the graphics card ATI Catalyst.
I remember that ATI catalyst supports certain options such as resizing the Image. Here you can select the image scale Panel option full size
In addition, you must set the resolution on the internal screen at native resolution of 1280 x 800
I think that the external monitor supports the resolution, which is not the same thing as the screen internal.

  • Portege R100 and WUXGA(1920x1200) external LCD display

I bought Dell 24 inch wide LCD display.

I thought that my portege R100 can support the resolution 1920 x 1200 because its maximum resolution is 2048 x 1536, but it's not. TT

Graphics chip is trident cyber xp4.

I already tried to use software PowerStrip, but it did not work for the chipset graphic trident.

Is it possible that I can use the resolution of WUXGA(1920x1200) using my portege R100 as regestry change or what ever?

    Hello

I found the info that 1600 x 1200 is a resolution supported max for Portege R100. As much as I know there no way to change this through any changes to the registry. As you know the performance of the graphics card can not be changed.

  • Pavilion dv5230us very dim screen

Hello, I have a dv5230us laptop running windows 7 Professional.  All drivers and updates are installed. At startup, the LCD is very low for maybe 10 seconds, then turns off, if you shine a flashlight on the screen, you can see the image is there, but very very small.  Connect an external monitor, the external monitor works fine.  I replaced the lcd screen and inverter without result Council.  Need ideas?  Thank you for your time.

It turns out, I bought a faulty inverter Board.  I tried a Committee of inverter of the work of the screen and another model, but I can't adjust the brightness upward or downward.  Expects the Commission to the appropriate converter now.

  • Inspiron 6000 - no LCD display

I tried to set my daughter-in-laws Inspiron 6000 for these past few weeks.
Problem: No LCD screen after the blue bar of Windows.
    Actions:
Last RELOADED, video driver (ATI MobilityRadeon X 300), Bios (A09), adjustment and Support of Dell diagnostics.  .
    An external monitor works fine.
A ran the last video diagnostics (from CD) and passes LCD display all tests.
When you display the view tab in the properties of the video, it shows the connected monitor (if you use the external monitor) and shows the LCD screen as 'Not connected', even if the lid is open.
The system is not in standby mode when the lid is closed, even if the option is enabled.
Conclusion: The lid switch must be faulty.

Has anyone replaced the cover switch in the Inspiron 6000?   If so, what is the part number and where can buy the switch?
PS. This forum has been a great help to me this good.

  • Tecra S1: Notebook generates noise when the LCD display is on

Tecra S1 is 4 years old and generates a high noise when the LCD is turned on (from last week). The noise comes most of the keyboard. Could this be a defunct ups?

Is there an easy way to fix it? It's not very loud, but in a quiet that is audible.

Hmmm I think this noise comes certainly from the FL inverter.
But I can't tell if the inverter is faulty or not because I noticed that her top on different laptops when the brightness of the display is placed on the lower floor.

But if you think that this problem was not present in the past, then you need to contact a technician who could help you replace the inverter FL.

  • Poor meanless LCD display on tecra 6000

I wiped recently a 6000 Tecra HDD used as installation of win 2000 any unstable daughter. Installed new WIN98 SE and new ŒUVRES.
The image was strong but low (600 x 400?). I noted're assignment and went into the BIOS to set the STRETCH. Of course, this defines full-screen, but very low resolution.
Could not get the cursor to POSTER to move beyond the setting of lower resolution, and even when I go to hardware and try to install the upper resi LCD monitor I get no change, no driver seems to be OK and always bacjk to system default to this setting of poor.

I lose a valuable file when I wiped the disk? I did a BIOS update but doesn't change anything.

  • Tecra 9000 - no display on the LCD screen when you turn on

I recently got a Tecra 9000 for cheap on eBay. I am experienced with the construction and repair of computers, but not so with laptops.

The problem with this laptop, it's that do not display on the LCD screen when you turn on. It was just black, no backlight, nothing. I took the laptop all share, found no obvious problem. I had to turn it on and the screen lights up a few times trying to figure out the problem. Would it be a bad connection? Or something else?

After getting it to start work, I'll try to start to put it back together and it stopped working again. I haven't not been able to reduce it to know if it's a bad connection or a card problem.

Someone at - it suggestions? This is a problem for others here?

As you describe the issue, I think it is somehow a bad connection or a damaged cable, because it does not work once you have disassembled the screen.
Maybe you need to check all the cables, leading motherboard to the LCD and take a close look, maybe for a few scratches or strong curvature.

  • The display is very Dim on the 4070CDS Satellite

I have a Satellite 4070CDS running Windows 2000 prof, full battery, it worked very good alllways, and next day the brightness is very low, that I hardly see what is on display.
How can I solve this problem?

    Hello

First of all, I think you should check the settings with the brightness of the screen.
Check if there is possibility to use the FN + F7 key combination to change the brightness of the screen.
But if all the parameters set correctly then I guess there is something wrong with the inverter FL. In this case, you should ask the control from laptop service.
