Text editor ' Save as... '. "broken - replaces the original file as well
' Save as... '. "removed some sort items of menu standards a long time ago, but I used this http://osxdaily.com/2012/08/27/enable-save-as-os-x-mountain-lion/ to restore a just as long. This addition of shortcut recently stopped working properly. Creates the new file, it also replaces the original file. Good OOP...
I removed the keyboard shortcut and discovered that if I open the file menu, hold the Option key to activate twice in save Sub... than that STILL not work correctly. It seems something within the modified OS and buggered how to save under... anything works.
Does anyone know how to save under... work again? Please do not respond if your answer is to use two copies. This isn't an answer as duplicate is a replacement of several wrong step of the simple and easy as... backup function.

There is a global setting to never overwrite the original file?
Hello.
I opened a .jpg in Raw file, made some adjustments, he opened in Ps and then saved under a different name as a .psd.
To my horror, it replaced the original .jpg as well.
I always save my changes under a different name, so this doesn't happen.
Luckily for me my files are backed up online.
Is there something in the world, I put in Ps so that the originals are always left alone?
Thank you.
Right - click on the image in Bridge and disable the settings.

When you export from Lightroom with "custom name - original file name" selected, Lightroom replaces the original file with a useless jpeg sequence number. Export must have the custom, followed by the number of original file name.
There is no option for Custom name + nameof the file.
I would, with all due respect-
If you "change" in the file name changes dialog box, you can set the change of name {Custom + file name}
or Custom + Original file name!

Split larger than the Original file
I have a big document of 900 pages. Its size is 20 MB. I divide it into two files of 450 pages each by using the command Split Document in Acrobat 9.1.0. The two files were each larger thant and the original document. They were 30 MB each. I then tried to create two separate documents by removing the last 450 pages in the original document using the command delete Pages and saving it as a new file. I did the same thing with the first 450 pages. Both files were 7 MB each. Together, they are much smaller than the original file - 14MB vs 20 MB.
What is going on? How can I be sure that slot records are accurate?
Thank you
Jon
Try to file > save as (Save NOT only) on the original file of 20 MB. (Never use any file > save if try to do a small file)
What is the size of the file is saved like that?
(I have never used Split Pages, don't know how it works).

How to save a file under a different name without losing the original file
Each year, I kept records of donation for our local community garden. When I was with numbers on OS 10.6, I could go to file > save as > then enter the new name. Do it this way, I could keep the original file and also have a new file. The original file will not lose its data.
But now, when I go to file all I see is to save or rename. Let me give you an example:
In 2015, when the amounts of donations would start coming to me, I opened the file from 2014 and pulled all amounts. I replaced the title of donations to the Food Bank in 2014 with the 2015 food bank donations. I would like to go to file and select Save as and type the new name for the file. Is there something I'm missing that I cannot save under?
Hold down the Alt/Option key while clicking on 'File' in the menu bar. This will give you the Save as option.

In one of the inDesign tutorials instructor pulls up what looks like an application bar that contains among other things a text editor to cut and paste the copy into the inDesign project. That is a feature of inDesign, and how is it accessible?
The instructor used the App Switcher on Mac to switch to a text editor and copy this text editor text. InDesign is not the active application.

Is it possible to save photos from lightroom without the original file?
I recently imported photos into lightroom, but I did not back up the original files on my computer and they are deleted from my card. The images still appear in lightroom. Is it possible to save them from lightroom without the original file?
Your images are not - and have never had - in Lightroom, they are just referenced in the Lightroom database.
Lightroom generates jpeg previews of the originals, however, and you can export users export preview plugin of Rob Cole: robcole.com - PreviewExporter.
To be clear, however, that are not originals.

I have a form that will be saved on the server of our company. Sales people will fill in their information and I want to overwrite the original file when they press save. But when they press save, acrobat tell them it should be saved as a copy. Can I change this?
I find this kind of hard to believe. Most likely someone else has
Always open (even if the application is closed, the file could still stay
sometimes locked). That's what the IT Department should be able to
understand.

Audition is not the Original file edition
I'm used to working in hearing CS6. Import an MP3 file and sound waves are all uneven, like an MP3 Player looks like naturally. When I opened the same hearing CC 2014 MP3 the MP3 seems to have been converted into something else because the sound waves are razor all the dishes. I don't want that. I want to edit an MP3 file. How can I configure my CC 2014 to edit the actual MP3s as my CS6? I don't want them automatically converted into something else before their change.
No hearing version has never at all editing of MP3 files. He never did and never will. When you open one, it decodes into a wav file, because it is the native format of the hearing work, which is essentially not compressed. You may have thought you were editing an MP3, but in fact you were not. When it was saved, this would have been a re-encoded, new, MP3 which was inevitably of lower quality because the process to decode/encode.
If you save your file with the same name as the original file, it will be completely replaced. If you do this enough times, the quality drops significantly; The MP3 is only a distribution format compressed, after all.

Print to pdf in the same folder the original file
Is possible to automate this process:
- any application, choose Save as pdf (print to PDF or print to a pdf printer).
- Save the file in the same folder the original file;
- set the password (no copy) this new file?
Thank you.
Gianluca.
The original and the PDF files have different extensions, so they can be saved in the same folder.
Regarding automation you might see if you can use Automator to do. Find it in your Applications folder.

Hello
I copied a file from the shared network folder and it is really important document, so I need to use this file as a file off the local drive connection and backup as well just in case where the cause accidental, but I don't want to save it each time and don't want to use the original file in the network.
Is it possible to automatically synchronize the copied file in the local folder with the original file in the network?
Thank you
Absolutely without interruption would require a program to write that monitors files on the file locks and triggers a sync as soon as he sees a change. So, since we cannot just write a program, the best thing is either:
(1) an icon on your desktop that you can click each time you want to synchronize "synchronize my files now.
or
(2) plan the "my sync files' to run automatically every x minutes. It could be a batch script that checks to see if the file is more recent and copies only files that have changed. Although perhaps a little aggressive, you could plan this thing check-and-copy-a batch file - again to run every 60 seconds.
Batch files allow you to control the operations very directly, but Microsoft has also made a (not supported) tool called SyncToy who does all the same things, but has a graphical interface to select your options. It can be programmed to run automatically on a schedule.

Problems of updating the metadata in the original files
I'm trying the combo CC Lr/Pr on a Macbook Air. I tried to change the time of a few photos to correct an error of time zone, has functioned well. I tried to write metadata in the original files and all the fields "date created" originals have been updated date and time! Any suggestions on how to fix?
If I import the files in another application such as Photos or ACDSee photo, correct 'photo' time must see?
As long as you did the metadata > save metadata to a file, or better, you have set the settings to catalogue option > metadata > automatically write changes into XMP, then any photo app reasonably in line with the standards of the industry will be able to read the capture time, you set in LR. I am reasonably sure that the Photos and ACDSee are standard, but it is best to test to make sure.

How to recover the original file names?
Hello! Please help me.
Accidentally, I changed the names of the videos that I used for Adobe Premiere. So now, every time I open the folder Adobe Premiere, videos are missing and replaced with a red screen "media disconnected". Is there any way I can recover the original file names without having to do it manually one by one?
I tried to go back to a restore point, but it does not work. I can't locate too because I don't remember which video is which.
I already edited almost 50 videos in this project it would take me a loooot of time to start all over again. :((
Hope you can help me.
If I understand you correctly, you changed the name of the file in Windows and can't remember what used to be file names. You have modified these in Premiere Pro, and now the project files, that you created do not know where to find the video files.
Is this correct?
If so, I may have a simple solution for you.
Assuming that you're not maxing out every file so that they are all exactly the same length, the number of minutes and seconds and images should get you where you want to go. Almost as unique as a fingerprint on my PC, but I never capture a bunch of videos which are identical in time - although it is possible to do, I guess.
Open a project file. Checking the properties of each file should reveal the name of file theoriginal and duration, which is also available directly on the thumbnail image (see image below). Open the media browser, then look at the times on each clip. This should be enough to help you either republish or change the Windows name to what it was originally. It's always one at a time, but it shouldn't take too long. A pen and paper could help 50 videos.

Re-L/r & battery with the original file import
Hi, need some help please.
After have exported them to an external editor for re - I want to import the image in lightroom, when I click on this option, prior to export (in re - import), it merely to send the image to the original folder not in the preview pane the long side of the Photo original/s and L/R so if I want to work on this, once again , I open the L/R folder and drag it into an external editor.
I've been under DISPLAY/SORT but don't no if any option to choose here.
Hope you understand the question
Thank you
RussSorted
If image does not appear in Lightroom, check that the Source film indicator and the menu does not appear "previous import." If you have switched to "Previous import", access the menu, and then select all photographs.
