VMWare Tools installed and not installed...

3.5.0u4 ESX3i

I created a Ubuntu VM. Then I added VMWare tools via the settings / installation/upgrade of VMware Tools

(in the "status, if reported panel installation has succeeded).

Yet, when I look in the summary of this Ubuntu VM tab, it says:

VMware Tools: not installed

Why is it (a power power off of the virtual machine does not change it)?

What you were doing just before the guest system the VMware Tools CD .iso image file. On the host Windows installation should start automatically. For Linux, you will need to mount the CD, copy the files from there to the directory and use the .tar and .rpm to install the tools.

    I'm having a problem where vmware tools say that they are not running.

    Background:

    Upgrading to esx 4.0 to esx 4.1

    VM = Server 2008 R2 core - console open after clicking on upgrade vmtools/interactive

    past to the drive (d :) to cdrom and ran the setup64.exe

    all is well and restarted

    and now under vmware tools just says he does not

    I can ping the server and it seems that the tools are running as I can the mouse in the console window without having to leave the cursor etc..

    However it is said that they are not running and the vmware tools service does not, either. The error of the service gives when I try and start it is:

    All other services seem to work fine on the server.

    Any ideas?

  • VMware Tools error, can not download and install the tools: "internal error of the client CD (3033). Contact your system or VMware Support Administrator"

    Hello

    I installed Windows Pro 8.1 x 64 RTM with Rollup GA A on PC, after that I installed VMware Player 6.0.1 and when I tried to download and install VMware Tools, I got the following error message: "internal error of the client CD (3033).» Contact your administrator system or VMware Support. »

    How can I install these tools? Please, fix the problem with the Server CD, I need to install VMware Tools.

    I tried to download on the deposit of CDS - / www/internship/session-32/cds/vmw-desktop/player but there is no record for the VMware Player 6.0.1 version, while the Tools-windows - 9.6.0.exe.tar is a strange form, how can I install these tools in VMware Player?

    Thank you.

    Workaround solution:

    1. download the trial of VMware Workstation 10

    2. install

    3. navigate to the Program files VMware Workstation 10

    4. find windows.iso, copy to USB or transfer it to some hosting

    5. go the machine to hosts, copy on it windows.iso

    6. inside of the guest computer mount windows.iso as drive

    7 install tools

    8 restart the guest computer

    That's all

    P.S. I am very disappointed, that such large and respected company, like VMware, after almost a month, since the question has been raised cannot pay 10 minutes and fixes a bug with CD-server and allow their users to download & install VMware Tools without any problems, even if we are talking about free product such as VMware Player!

  • Stop virtual machines with or without VMware tools installed

    So after a power failure major where I work has taken place where the batteries of the UPS only ran about 10 minutes and the emergency generator didn't kick in, I was put in charge of writing a script that starts to stop the virtual machines and servers in a given cluster. Now that I am relatively new to the environment here, so I don't know if all the virtual machines have the tools are installed. I want to cover all bases and the virtual machines that do not have the tools installed. My script done now is it initiates closing the comments on all the virtual machines and check every 10 seconds to 120 seconds for virtual machines go offline if after 120 seconds, there are even virtual machines online, it issues a shutdown command on all servers that have not stopped. Now, he'll catch all the virtual machines, but I don't want the machine have to wait 2 minutes before totality if it can be avoided (remember that this script will be executed when the data center goes to the power of the UPS for every watt account to keep critical systems online). the script throws an error when it cannot stop because no tool is installed, so I thought I could use a try/catch block to catch the error and send just a detroit of turning control of these VMs off. I tried to do, but without success.

    Is it possible that I can either catch the error, or a stop all virtual machines that do not have the tools installed?

    Attached is my code, maybe you can spot what can I do to stop the virtual machines without tools within the do / while loop when errors occur first.

    Add-PSSnapin VMware.VimAutomation.Core
    $server = $args [0]
    $cluster = $args [1]
    SE connect-VIServer-Server $server
    $counter = 0
    {}
    If (Get-Cluster-name $cluster | get - vm | where {$_.powerstate - eq 'receiving'}) {}
    If ($counter - eq 0) {}
    Get-Cluster-name $cluster | get - vm | where {$_.powerstate - eq "receptor"} | stop-VMGuest-confirm: $false
    }
    Write-Host "VMs are on waiting" (120-$counter)"seconds"
    $counter = $counter + 10
    Sleep 10
    }
    }
    While ($counter - 110)-or ((Get-VMHost |)) Get - VM | where {$_.powerstate - eq "receptor"}) .count)-No 0
    If ($counter = 120) {}
    Write-Host "certain virtual machines did not not stop properly, tension now.
    Get-Cluster-name $cluster | get - vm | where {$_.powerstate - eq "receptor"} | Stop-VM-confirm: $false
    }
    Write-Host "Putting servers into maintenance mode."
    Get-cluster-name $cluster | Get-vmhost | where {$_.state - eq 'connected'} | Game-VMHost-State "Maintenance".
    Sleep 10
    Write-Host "stop servers."
    Get-cluster-name $cluster | Get-vmhost | where {$_.state - eq 'Maintenance'} | Stop-VMHost-confirm: $false
    Disconnect-VIServer-confirm: $false

    Try something like this

    $vm = Get-VM
    $vm | where {$_.Guest.State -eq "Running"} | Shutdown-VMGuest -Confirm:$false $vm | where {$_.Guest.State -eq "NotRunning"} | Stop-VM -Confirm:$false

    Virtual machines running VMware tools will get a judgment of comments, while the virtual machines that do not have the VMware tools running, will get a poweroff.

  • the alarm when VMWare Tools installed?

    Hi friends,

    I want to set up an alarm to be triggered when the client install VMWare tools. Is it possible to do? I saw not all defined event to do this.

    Thanks in advance.

    I don't think there is an event defined for the installation of the tools you mentioned, when you right-click on a VM under tension and make an installation of tools he calls - MountToolsInstaller that doesn't return any value back to listen to you. Most likely, it generates a task in which you can find probably the system and the trigger of broad, but nothing in real time at default of the vSphere API.

  • VMware tools install question

    Hi all

    I recently installed vmware player 3.0.0.Build - 203739 and I now have a prompt of Win XP pro on my Win XP pro host.

    I initially had problems to get vmware tools to download whenever I was invited to download, the player said to me that he could not see the server (even if I was verifiable online).

    Today, when I walked into the virtual machine, I was prompted to download the tools and this time the download seems to start (at least, there is no error and the progress bar indicates the download worked).

    Current state, it's inside my VM menu, it says now "Cancel vmware tools installation"without doubt, implying that the installation is still progressing.  However, this message has been there for about six hours now.

    Can someone tell me if this installation is still ongoing, waiting or what?  I have to do something about that installation is complete?

    Thanks for your help!

    I met the same problem, but the tools got only downloaded and nothing more.

    In the status bar of the prompt, you see the logo of VMWare, but with a yellow triangle indicating that an upgrade of VMWare tools is available.

    If you see in the menu VM the words 'Cancel' and then do a "install VMWare tools". The changes are great that it works now. You just download VMWare Tools, but they must be installed by yourself.

    I'm tired of this.  I reported this problem for several versions of VMware.  Guys actually you check operating systems, you say that you support?

    Good, our guys installer described workaround for me:

    1. download and install the Microsoft Windows Installer Redistributable for Win9x: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=cebbacd8-c094-4255-b702-de3bb768148f

    2. Mount the ISO image (winPre2k.iso in the folder of installation of VMware Workstation) tools. (Or just choose "VM > install VMware Tools" in the menu, which will automatically mount the image).

    3. If autorun is enabled, it will trigger setup.exe, which will break.  Ignore this.  Right click on the CD drive, select 'Open' and then double-click on the file "VMware Tools.msi".

    I'll tell you one last time...  When clean install OS X 10.9 Mavericks under VMware Fusion 6.0.2 VMware Tools are not automatically installed!

    In addition, it turns out that the "internal" or "removable" made no difference that I was able to move the vmdk from SATA, SCSI (appears inside the system) but that made no difference either but has been tested

    I have mentioned that the drive internal vs external because VMware Fusion before 6.0.2 has not created a good installer for OS X 10.9 Mavericks nor was it settled the case, and the fact that it was not properly installed may have been a contributing factor to the VMware Tools install problem not necessarily imply that the disk shows as external!

    I wonder if there is another way to install VMware Tools manually?  I can see the directory structure exposed within the darwin.iso but don't know if I can cp

    This straight out of the iso, but not being is not a Mac OSX expert... don't know if I can run alternate and no package installer idea what files are changed by install VMware Tools.

    Still confident enough, I can work around the issue of the installer.

    I just tested this on a clean build and with the help of pacifists opened the VMware Tools.pkg (Install VMware Tools.app/Contents/Resources/VMware Tools.pkg) in the bundle 'Install VMware Tools.app' on darwin.iso (VMware Tools for OS X) and "Selected files.pkg content" then clicked on install and check 'use administrator privileges '.  He basically just moved the files in places and then after that I restarted the computer virtual VMware Tools seem to work.  I tested VMware shared folders, copy & paste, drag & drop, and change the resolution of the screen... all seem to work fine, however it was simply intended as a test and not a recommended method to install VMware Tools and I don't know if it is essentially a complete installation.  I don't have the time now to analyze the two occurrences, one made appropriately and the other using pacifists to see if there is in fact no difference.

    I was also going to take the vmdk to another platform and see if any difference (doubt it will be)
