  • HP ENVY laptop - 15-ae178ca: Second monitor stopped working after the automatic update of HP

I use my laptop with a second monitor (HP Pavillion 22xw) connected by HDMI. It was working fine until yesterday (including yesterday it worked), when a message from automatic upgrade HP was shown to informing him that the system needs to be restarted. After that, my second monitor stopped working. The system will not identify it more. I tried another cable, I rebooted several times, I tried to update the specific Intel graphics driver, I tried to uninstall and install manually another (I can't get this one done, because when I run manually downloaded driver there is a message saying that I need to contact the manufacturer). Please notify that I need my second monitor is fully functional!

Thank you for visiting the Forums from the HP Support! The forums are a great place where you can find solutions for your problems, with the help of the community!

I understand that you have a problem with the display and wanted to help you!  I see only after an update, the external monitor no longer works.

Given that this problem happened recently, have you tried to perform a System Restore, to define the notebook to its previous working state?  If this does not work, have you tried to update the drivers of graphics Chipset and BIOS on the HP website directly?  You can find the drivers for you product here: drivers - HP's ENVY for laptop - 15-ae178ca

  • Function of scrolling of the mouse after a new installation.

Hello, when I got my laptop (m6 1125dx Envy) I had a nice feature that allowed me to scroll through the pages under the mouse cursor when the page is the subject of a scroll is not the current page. It was great when look a things side by side and comparing elements. Having to click on a window to make it active just to scroll is a pain. This is a default feature in ALL linux distributions and I missed a lot when I'm on windows.

When I got this laptop windows 8, I found that I had this feature. I was happy to extreally. After awhile, I reloaded my operating system with a new installation of windows 8 and noticed this feature is now gone.

I installed all the drivers and the software that was in the file "c:\SWetup". I've updated all the drivers from the HP website. Still no scroll mouse of pages under the cursor.

I know there are applications of third party like katmouse and others who do this, I tried them and they do not seem to work in windows 8.

It's something that came with the laptop. Can someone give me a helping hand for this feture back?

    ChangedSoul,

You can enable mouse Hover in two ways:

    Windows key + U (open access) >

If you have not previously opened the ' Centre

    then

Uncheck both "always read this section aloud" and "always this section analysis.

Select / Open "Make the mouse easier to use" >

Under "Make it easier to manage windows" section >

CHECK "Activate a window by hovering over it with the mouse.

    Ok

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Comment

This method should work, and if this is the case, it will also be enable the development by mouse and POP before the window where you point your mouse.  Frankly, I find it irritating.

More likely, because you're in the Linux world, looking for likely action "Set mouse without Pop" first defined in Unix all these years and then moved to Linux as the obvious of the window control decent method.  Yes, I'm a little prejudiced, but only a little.  The smile.

Glide mouse (no window pop) to Windows 8 is easy to configure. It requires a simple registry hack to set the mouse Hover in place.

    Windows key + R > regedit > OK

Once you have full registry > export a copy of the register to your favorite folder

    Open key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Mouse

    Change the value of REG_WORD ActiveWindowTracking to 0 × 0000001 (1)

    Open the key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop

Change the value REG_BINARY UserPreferencesMask, MSB (most significant byte or the first value in the chain), at 01

    Example:

The FIRST value of the string can be 41, which displays the front window > change the value 01

The FIRST value is perhaps 9f > replace the value 01

    - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

    OPTIONAL:

If you want to slow down the reaction of the constant focus, you can add a delay to the duration of the window to change the focus after the mouse is moved.

    Key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Desktop

Change ActiveWindTrkTimeout REG_DWORD > a value you like

    Examples:

    0 × 00000080 (128ms)

    0 × 000000c8 (200ms)

HOW to do a clean install of Win7: see "using the custom installation and formatting the hard drive option" (or "reinstall it Windows 7") http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows7/Installing-and-reinstalling-Windows-7 article

NOTE: If your computer came with a set of disks, there is a hidden partition restore (not to be confused with the restoration of the system) you would use to do the clean install (AKA a "destructive recovery").

After the new installation, you will have the equivalent of a "new computer" in order to take care of EVERYTHING on the next page before connecting the machine to the internet or one local network (i.e. other computers) AND BEFORE to plug in a flash, SD card, or any other external drive to the computer otherwise:

You MUST uninstall the trial for free AND download/run the Norton Removal Tool again BEFORE installing updates AND BEFORE installing your new anti-virus application (for example, Microsoft Security Essentials - free, instead of AVG).

If you need additional assistance with the clean install, please start a new thread in this forum: http://social.answers.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/w7repair/threads

  • Is this ok to activate the automatic updates now?

Hey guys I have the same q... is it OK to turn on the automatic updates now... I had the same prob - stage restart loop 3... I fixed it by using method 4 then I installed Microsoft fixit files... how ever it has updated to sp2 now... I can turn on the updates, and install them?

    Hi ganganatha,.

Looking for your other post I see that you have run the fixit reset Windows Update. It's yours if you want to enable automatic updates or not. However, so that Windows install important updates as they are available, it is recommended to activate the automatic update. With an automatic update, you don't have to search for updates online or worry that critical fixes for Windows might be missing from your computer. Windows automatically checks for updates for your computer.

In addition, given that the issue is resolved, you can turn on it.

Here are answers to some common questions about updating Windows automatically.

    Understand the automatic Windows Update

There are other ways in which Windows inform you about updates. You can set according to your convenience.

  • Get the error Code 'WindowsUpdate_8E5E03FB' 'WindowsUpdates_dt000' when you try to download recommended update using the automatic settings 'updates '.

I just noticed today, pronouncing the 'permission' to Windows to download and install, it is recommended to update it tries to download the update, hit 11% downloaded and then shows the dialog window "update failed", asking me to "Try Again", etc. etc. I googled the error exactly as stated above, and it takes to me an article 'A' answer the Question which recommends a bunch of steps that I have not the first clue of what they mean, or what they will do. I used the option "Microsoft Fix It" after a search, in an attempt to reset the Windows Update settings, but I don't know if it's working or not, although clearly it did nothing to help in the installation of this download. By examining the log of the updates installed, I am able to receive and install other updates, however, it is with a update I see several attempts in the last days to install, and each of them ended in failure.

When we look at the site of Question answer, other than to check to ensure the update is, indeed, the Automatic value, that it is in accordance with the instructions given that's where I get lost. The following suggestion is something to do with the "C:\windows\system32\catroot" folder, I've never even heard of, and am more than a little reluctant to go messing around with this stuff. Can any that illuminate what he done, or point me in a direction to a response that is written in 'English' for those of us without much experience of computer programming? Live is support available for all what is the cause? Any suggestions much appreciated!

    See you soon!

In the case opposite & whereas KB971644 is NOT a security update, you can simply hide the "thing":

Open the download folder and delete its content
    Close the window.

Windows Update |  View the updates available (or Select the updates installed): right click on the (platform) update for Windows Vista (KB971644) | Click hide update | Confirm the prompt UAC (User Account Control), if any, & OK your way out.

    4. start the automatic updates service:

Start > Right click on run , and then select run as administrator > services.msc (type) > [OK]
Double-click automatic updates > click Start
(Stopping the service will take a moment)

    =====================================
To restore/show updates for Vista: Start | Control Panel | System maintenance and (if you use Classic view, skip this step) | Windows Update | Restore hidden updates: Find and select the update you want to install. Click restore. You can now select once again it and install through the normal process.

NB: If KB971644 were available for download/installation manual (and is not), I would have you try it.
