The button to restore the last session disappeared. New tab, now this tab is my; AST session. Help! Have read all options & checked all, what now?

I am using Windows XP PRO 32-BIT... I read (and checked) all options but still can't find my last session of navigation of yesterday. I opened a new tab in 'My Favorites', only one tab open, so now, this tab is my "last session"...
What can I do now, please? For my research, some I might be able to remember, some are my favorites, but can't always remember the names to find them again, I have a lot of tabs open!
I have a lot of files bookmarked...
Previously I always managed to restore by clicking the Session Manager to restore the last session, but the button seems to have disappeared. Please, I'm old and need of (detailed) easy step by step instructions!
I just remembered I have some work early this morning, it worked well then. I went to make breakfast. When I came back, the computer was disconnected and restarted. But I have no idea why.
Maybe something happened? I cannot now get this morning session or session of yesterday, with all the tabs I had open for research...
Thanks in advance...
Sylvia

The user.js file is not there by default.
It is present than if you or other software had created, so if you can't find it, then it's OK.
Note that Windows hides file .js extension, probably, you see only a user with the type of JScript file.

You can see in the screenshot in this article how the words: support page is supposed to look like and where the button is located in the Application Basics section below the user agent.

When I right-click a link and select 'open in a new tab' and 'opens in a new window', nothing happens. In addition, nothing happens when I type a query in the search bar and press ENTER. I tried to restart firefox in safe mode and disabling all add-ons, but the problems continue.

The setting in "tools > Options > tabs: open new windows in a new tab instead" is for links that specify a target window (for example, target = _blank) to open the link.
This option allows to divert these links into a new tab instead of a new window.
Links that do not specify a target always open in the current tab, unless you redefine that with a middle-click or Ctrl (Mac: Cmd) left click (new tab) or a left click UPDATE (new window) or via the context menu.

  • Why am I being asked to restore my last session each time I open firefox?

I downloaded firefox 7 I thought it was # 8 anyway, everytime I open firefox I have a button to restore my last session that closed with all the problems. fox 3.6.23 only did if some thing was sticking with a few pages open. but after I closed it had disappeared, whose bright idea was it it hold the stupid opening or asking me to restore? I guess that fire up fox ranks after 3.6.23 prove to be very bad, this problem must be resolved, or I'll go back to 3.6.23 where I had very few problems.

Your list of details of the system shows that you have a user.js file in the profile folder to initialize prefs each time you start Firefox.
The user.js file will be present if you or a other software created this file and normally will not present.

You can check if you have a user.js file in the Firefox profile folder that affects the pref browser.sessionstore.resume_session_once true value.

You can check its contents with a text editor (right click: 'Open with'; do not double-click).
The user.js file is read whenever Firefox is started and initializes the preferences to the specified value in this file, so the preferences set via user.js can be changed temporarily for the current session.

You can remove the user.js file if you do not create this file yourself.

You can use this button to go to the current Firefox profile folder:

Windows hides certain default file extensions.
Among them .html and .txt, so you can see only a user file name without .ini and .js file extension.
You can check the type of file (file extension) in the properties of the file via the context menu in Windows Explorer.

You will find this bookmarking a page (by clicking the star next to the address, or to go in bookmarks > bookmark this page is precisely what we must remember the pages.) This is a feature common in web browsers, and it's very very useful in many situations, including the memory of the location of the pages that you want to see later, allowing access to the pages that you use frequently and other things too.

If you want to know about session restore, there is a helpful support article here which I think also has information on version 3.0. However, I invite you, once more, update, since older versions (including 3.0) are is more sustained and have known security flaws. In addition, you will not lose any no matter what functionality at all (unless you use modules that are no longer usable by the newer versions, in which case you must contact the authors of Add-ons for support and ask them to update their software), is free and very easy to do.

  • I just upgraded to FF 3 FF9 and in the process lost my 'New tab' button, and there isn't one in the view > customization window. So, how manually open a new tab in FF9?

    Question
I just upgraded to FF 3 FF9 and in the process lost my 'New tab' button, and there isn't one in the view > customization window. So, how manually open a new tab in FF9?

To open the window to customize the toolbar, do one of the following:

    • Firefox button > Options > toolbars
    • Press ALT or F10 to temporarily show the Menu bar and choose from there (view > toolbars > customize)
    • Hold DOWN the ALT key while pressing the VTC keyboard letters

    See-> https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/common-questions-after-upgrading-firefox-36

Regarding the new button tab, you see the end a '+' after the last tab or the right of the tab bar? This is the icon of the new tab.

    • CTRL + T will open a new tab

  • Why in the context menu of the "open in a new tab" and the "open in a new window" - buttons change of place? And you can change it back?

With the Firefox 4 RC, the 'open in a new tab' and the 'open in a new window' - buttons have changed places. This is quite annoying because I normally do without looking, but now it always opens in a new window instead of a new tab. Is it possible to restore it? Perhaps in your own settings?
