The Compaq Presario 2100 laptop SSD upgrade

I have a laptop Compaq Presario 2100 it was brand new in 2003. I have a newer laptop, but a train trying to upgrade the Presario 2100 as much as possible. This is the kind of a project now and I also want to get as much as possible out of it. I heard that SSDS are super fast and would improve performance a bit. Anyone did the upgrade to an SSD for their Persario 2100 notebook PC series already? All entries are appreciated, in particular information about the product that was used for the upgrade. If no one did, so nobody knows if it is possible to upgrade the Presario 2100 series laptop PC to an SSD?

Thank you

Huck

Believe it or not, the maintenance manual is always available.

Manual

The Presario 2100 uses old school PATA (EIDE) hard disks that are different from those of the SSD SATA see you more often on the market. However, there is a PATA SSD. They cost a bit more per concert, of course. I put a PATA SSD in a laptop on the same vintage as the Presario 2100 and it does significantly improve start-up time and overall performance, but talk about the proverbial earrings on a pig!

This is a 64 GB SSD PATA that would be perfect for the Presario 2100, but $ 90:

On eBay you will probably find 32 gig for a little less versions.

  • the Compaq Presario CQ3074L graphics card upgrade

    Hello

I was planning on upgrading my graphics card is ATI Radeon HD 4350 for purposes of games.

the problem is that I don't know what superior graphics card should I buy that will be compatible with the motherboard, processor and memory Compaq Presario CQ3074L screening.

I was hoping that if anyone could advice me chart compatible cards.

    Thank you.

You can go for a VGA card exceeding not power consumption 75 w which is the limitation of PCIe slot. I also recommend the upgrade of power. If the VGA up to 75w (like nVidia GF530 or 540) I would like to go at least 300W PSU and more than 400W or more would be appropriate. Maps on 75W have connector 6 extra pins to provide a separate power to the VGA card.

  • Compaq Presario CQ60-409SA: SSD upgrade problem

    Hello

I just replaced my HARD drive with a new 120 GB SSD 11 Extreme Sandisk.

Everything went well without problems and much faster search time, etc...

The problem I have is that when I start the laptop from the cold, IE turn it on to use the SSD is not recognized and I just get a black screen with cursor top left of flashing, but if I press on Ctrl-Alt-Del, the system restarts then boots in windows without problem.

I want to know if I can access BIOS Advanced Options, if I press F10 at startup I get only Options as the starting order of change and not more advanced Option to change the parameters of training, etc. and F2 does not work Diagnostics for the SDS.

Any help would be greatly appreciated I'm very satisfied with the performance increase that disk SSD gives Windows and start itme except for having to start twice.

    Concerning

    Hi Hüffer,

The SSD was visible on the Windows installation disc, but after I installed the AHCI drivers during the option to load drivers installation succeeded and starts as it should.

    Kind regards

  • Compaq Presario 2586US laptop - hard drive upgrade

Recently, I took a chance and bought 2 'parts only' Compaq Presario 2500 laptop computer series off Ebay and was able to make a unique work PC with motherboard of the 2586US being the motherboard, I used.  I don't have a hard drive, so I bought a Samsung 160 GB ATA drive.  Turns out I have to not need the adapter on the end of bus because it plugged right in the motherboard making.  The reader is supposed to be ATA100 and ATA133 at the upper end (I don't remember which).  I put the drive and installed Windows.  I noticed that it seemed slow but Windows showed the disc to the original format.  Then I went to dual-boot with a Linux distribution and encountered errors.  Thanks to a lot of research on the web I found the BIOS and the IDE interface itself (?) apparently does not have a drive larger than 137 GB.  I checked the BIOS and indeed it says the maximum usable size 137 GB.  It also shows the transfer rate to DMA2, which, as I understand it, means that it is only the transfer to 33 MB instead of 100 or 133 MB.  The service manual says ATA100, so it should support a transfer DMA5 rate.

I don't pretend to understand all of this at all.  So, I'm looking for help.

    (1) is anyway to go beyond 137 GB on a hard drive in this laptop?

    (2) otherwise, it's the fact that my drive is actually 160 GB when the PC support 137Go cause more problems?

    (3) what should I do to obtain a rate of transfer beyond DMA2?  The configuration of the BIOS doesn't let me tab this field to change.

Thanks for any help and explanations that I can understand.  Don't forget that I am just your average Joe and not some kind of expert at all.  I found a lot of this on the web but don't know what it means.

    Thanks in advance!

    Dave

After a lot of research and reading on the net, I found the following link:

    http://wwwcsif.cs.ucdavis.edu/~leeey/A7A266/

Basically, the driver ALi M5229 was the problem.  It was not really support the DMA modes.  The link explains this and provides a link for the driver of the UDMA for the chip (it is not only the miniport driver that you get from the Compaq/HP site).  I installed it, had to reboot about 3 or 4 times due to messages "new hardware has been installed, but a reboot is required.  When I finally got around those I noticed that in Device Manager I see the ALi controller and it is listed as a UDMA controller now.  The individual channels are not displayed (the pilot seems to configure the drives as SCSI peripheral nickname).  Using the included ALi utility, it shows my driver running at ATA100/133.  Startup, everything including startup items until my office is there, the system's busiest has been reduced to about 1/4 or 1/5 while she was before.   I have a new system of hearts for my office, so sometimes I think that it still seems a bit slow, but there is a world of difference between a modern quad core system and this old laptop P4 architecture, etc..  But okay, the laptop works fine now in Windows.  Now I'll have to see what it looks like for Linux, because I have no idea what it uses for the driver ALi M5229.

I think we can safely call this thread closed, how ever do you that.  Somehow, I thought she was going to be a bit obscure, and I guess you can say it was!

Thank you all for any help here!

You must remove the hard drive and get a hard drive of the computer laptop usb adapter and plug it into another computer to copy and paste the files that you want on the other computer.

    Here is the Manual:

    Your manual

Remove the hard drive appears on pages 2-9 to 2-10

This is the kind of card you need:

    laptop hard drive box

With an external box that you can use the drive as a portable storage drive after you delete the files you want or keep stored on the old disk of the laptop.

  • Compaq Presario F700 laptop - replacement of Ethernet (NIC)

    Hi all!

I have recently switched to my laptop to XP. I had the hardest time finding drivers for the LAN.  So I finally found them and now the connection is always limited or no connectivity when connected via ethernet.

I tried to release and renew the IP address, but the system is unable to renew it through CMD.  My internet works fine with my other two computers.  I used the same ethernet cable connected to this computer to my laptop and they are all lead to limited connectivity or not.

I think that the NETWORK card must be replaced, but I can't find the replacement part number.  I don't see the number for the WLAN.  Could this be the same room?  I don't think so, because the wireless is fine, it's just the connection to the LAN which I seem to have a problem with.  I see not even where I can access the bottom of the laptop ethernet card.

I received the spare part of this thread - http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware/Compaq-Presario-F700-Laptop-NIC-Replacement/td-p/1639...

Anyone know what part I need to replace the LAN ethernet, not wifi adapter?  (unless they are the same, want to make sure before order).

    Thank you!

    Hello:

To replace the ethernet card, you will need to replace the motherboard together.

The link you mentioned (which I answered the way back when), was to replace the wireless network card.

I recommend that you just buy an adapter USB to RJ-45 ethernet until you buy a new PC.

If your laptop has an amd processor, XP driver you should use.

No he is the type of hard disk and how it connects, and you have this kind

And an SSD is like this:

See the difference in the interface? It is a kind of hole plug round/square of the thing. I could go on technically on different types of storage controllers and how to optimize the speed of SSD, but the different plug-ins is a killer deal from the outset.

On what you can do if you want to speed up the hard disk, performance is to find a 7200 RPM hard drive PATA (top photo), which will be much faster than 4200 or 5400 RPM nature, which is probably what has / have. I actually bought a supply of 60 GB 7200 RPM IDE/PATA drives of the laptop that I use in my hobby of refurbishing older laptops. I don't want to sell to a member of the Forum HP (kind of conflict of interest), but I can probably direct you to the place I got them if you will send me a PM.

My best real advice is that your laptop if it were a car would have the right to have "Antique" plates and is actually just a little newer than some of the 'old' portable in my "vintage" collection The market is very respectful of the buyer and you can get a laptop that will run rings around you for maybe $300 these days and will allow you to use a modern OS with a semblance of security. I don't think not that your could run anything newer than XP.

  • HP Compaq Presario CQ42: can I upgrade cpu? HP Compaq Presario CQ42. Core i5 430 m for core i5 3320

    Hello HP.
I have a question. My laptop is HP Compaq Presario CQ42 and core i5 430 m processor. I want to stretch cpu for the third generation of cpu and the fourth generation cpu. I found it core i5 3320 Mr. Peut work it core i5 3320 m cpu? It can better performance?

    Hello Angaahai ;

Let me welcome you on the HP forums!

I read your post about upgrading your CPU and wanted to help.

This link is to HP for your PC product page: http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/Compaq-Presario-CQ42-Notebook-PC-series/4121902/model/4149187/manuals

If you right-click on the entry of l maintenance and Service Manual, you can download this PDF on your PC.  On page 94, it lists the compatible processors, and on the next page, he begins the removal and replacement procedures.

Unless you did something like this many times before, I would advise to do it yourself.  It is very hard to do and is easy to break something in the process.  It would be better to have a business service center works on laptops do this for you.

    Good luck

I'm a volunteer and I do not work for, or represent, HP.

  • Problem with the Compaq Presario CQ60-216DX

Hello, I'm having a problem with my NEW Compaq Presario CQ60-216DX mother. Every time it boots up vista and I run internet explorer, I get a strange blue screen which exports a file memory and reboots.

I have the feeling that this might have been caused by a virus, but I can't do something, because Vista can't reformat long for some reason any.

I tried a hard test in my motherboard and he said that there is something wrong with my hard drive.

I don't know what is happening, right now I'm in safe mode trying to find viruses that Nod32 does not detect everything.

Can someone tell me how I can get either the Windows XP Discs to work at startup (which, for some reason, they do not), or an alternative to a long format?

Is there a way to fix this without reformatting? There's almost nothing on this laptop anyway so I'm always willing to do. A regular format has done nothing to solve the problem, I did it with Ubuntu and it did a quick format, but I had no problem with Ubuntu. Then I reinstall Vista and I am constantly having problems with a blue screen of death.

Someone knows how to fix this?

    The Chemich does not exist

If you want to do a reinstall of Vista then press F11 continuously during the boot upward. This will bring you in Recovery Options were you can choose to restore the system in the same State as when it was purchased. But if, as you suggested, is that a problem of hard drive reinstall won't help.
