  In any case, anyone know which hard drive comes with the Compaq Presario CQ60?  Which means, I've had the computer for a while and I'm back from the service (not HP) and was missing a memory card, so I checked the HARD drive and noticed that it is a Toshiba.  Anyone know if this is what usually comes with this model?

  The Presario 2100 uses old school PATA (EIDE) hard disks that are different from those of the SSD SATA see you more often on the market. However, there is a PATA SSD. They cost a bit more per concert, of course.   Windows xp no my pc compaq v6000 not starting and bluescreen showed a couple of times. I ran the BIOS (phoenix) disk hard diagnosis and the test failed. When I opened my HDD I noticed green rust as deposits into the connector on the hard drive. After cleaning with a brush, computer loaded XP successfully. But an hour later, while I was surfing in mozilla suddenly the mouse pointer started late and showed computer blue screen saying that windows has been closed down to prevent damage.

  I would be grateful if someone can tell me if it's a software problem or hard drive error. If I need to replace my hard drive, what are my options, for example. rpm, capacity, provider? Thank you.

  The only way you could have rusted copper into the connector on the hard drive is if liquid got in there so I am reluctant to try to speculate how much damage has been done. I remove the hard drive and connect it to the outside to another computer and run chkdsk on it to see if the drive itself is bad. As long as there is a problem on the part of connector and the interface with the motherboard cannot really trust the onboard hard drive Diagnostics. You could also get an own another new hard drive adapter.

  Above is a good thing. It is slim (7mm) but it will still go into the caddy and connect to the motherboard with the connecting piece. If the hard drive itself is always good, and you replace the connector piece but he always bluescreens, so I would not spend money on a new hard drive. I would say that there was damage to the motherboard.

  Hello, I have a desktop Compaq Presario SR1150NX of 2005. Everything works well in it and we emptied dust not for long. But then, one day I went to start it it says a critical system file was missing. I'm confused at first. After half an hour, creating a USB disk only to find it didn't work, I then had to use the Windows XP Recovery Console. Then after I fixed it it still didn't start because it couldint find the file. But when I start the computer, it shows me that, if I press F10, it boots into system recovery mode. OT started and told me that I could boot into windows xp system recovery. But in the middle of this, the computer overheats and shuts down. When I tried to turn it on again it gave me a disc error AND when I boot in recoervy, it's just bluescreens. Now when I turn on the computer, it does nothing.

  Is there any where where I could download a recoervy tool to open the hard drive in order to get the data on the drive and get a new drive? Or get a Windows recovery disc?

  Yes, one on ebay will work, when you remove the old drive, check the jumper setting, be sure the new drive is jumper the same before you install it.

  All you have to do after replacing the HARD drive is the following.

  Start Notepad and open the CD/DVD drive.  Insert the first disc of recovery.  Hold the power button until the laptop stops.  Press the power button to start the laptop that should now boot from the recovery disk and start the recovery process.

  Remove the hard drive. There will be a label on the disc that will specify its type. It is the fastest and most reliable to determine what type it is.

  I guess you are talking about hard disk access and not a CD/DVD disc access. If I'm not mistaken, your hard drive is probably faulty and you should test it.

  Test the hard drive with a diagnostic utility downloaded from site of the disc mftr. or use SeaTools for BACK of Seagate. You create a bootable CD with the files you download. You will need a third party burning software to do as the free ImgBurn, Nero or Roxio. Burn as an image, not in the form of data.

  Boot with the CD that you have done and do a full test of the reader. The physical tests fail, replace it.
