The different paragraph of distinct character style formatting

Hello

In my paper, I have bunch of paragraphs and each begins with the name (two or three words). Character style is applied to each name. Now, I want to add the paragraph after each name of each mark is so in its own paragraph. Of course, I can do it manually, hitting enter after each name, but I was wondering if there is a more efficient way through search/replace or perhaps GREP.

Thank you!

m

Try this on a copy to be sure, but I think finding ^. + and set the format to find the character style, and then change to $0, you can also set the change of any character Style Format and a new paragraph Style that is applied by the character style formatting.

This will probably leave you with a space at the end of the paragraph, or the beginning of the next. The location will depend on if the style is applied to the space. If this is the end of the paragraph, you can use find find ^(.+) (\s) and change to $1

If it's at the beginning of the next paragraph, in my opinion, you need a second query, Find ^ /s (leave find it empty format or the value initially attributed the paragraph style) and do not fill the field exchange.

  • Link to paragraph CS5.5 character style?

I've created a few different character Styles in Indesign for example SM and I want that all the SM Style of character to bind to its abbreviation is 'Site Manager' in the document.

Is it possible to connect all this throughought Style character of the document to this part of the document, or I have to create each one individually (monotonous)?

AHA! Now, I understand. You want to add cross-references to all instances of a given character style programmatically. It is no doubt scriptable, but I don't think that there is a native InDesign tool that does this.  I think Kasyan xref script might be useful to to seriously reduce you the number of clicks you have to do to remove this. However, there is no script that will be "find the first instance of charstyle, define as the target of a hyperlink, find the second instance, do xref in the first instance, find the next occurrence, repeat" - at least I know.

  • How to format different paragraphs in the same block of text quickly

    Hello world

I have 7 paragrahs as part of a text. How can I give a paragraph style 1,3,5,7 and 2,4,6 another syle in a quick way, by which I mean that I don't have to click on every single paragraph and the syle apple every time. Is it possible that I can apply a style to the text frame, and when I place the 7 paragraphs, they will be automatically formatted as I mentioned above. I tried to use the nested style, but I found the nested style is only used for formatting different parts of a single paragraph. Am I wrong?  It will be greatly appreciated if anyone can come back to me. Thank you!

    Simon

If style 1 is listed as "next style" style 2 and vice versa, you can select all the text, then right click on the name of the style you Wan to apply to the first paragraph and click on apply the style and the styles and following style allows to scroll the selection.

  • best judgment for paragraph styles, object styles and character styles

I want to learn the criteria difference and use of paragraph styles, object styles and character styles. I know how to use them, but know about the best judgment and context, when you use would be better. Can anyone recommend links? I've been using adobe. Please don't suggest books.

    Paragraph styles are whole paragraphs.

Character styles are letters or isolated words. Do not use the long of an entire paragraph. Do not set all the attributes, only those who are different for the properties of the paragraph Style. Unlike Quark Xpress, in InDesign are character Styles used only for the difference of isolated words.

Paragraph styles can include the character automatically Style: Styles, GREP, nested Styles, initial letters, chips automatic & numbers and line styles.

Object styles , set the frame of the object. They include separate definitions of all of the object, the stroke and fill.

Object styles can also be applied to images in a frame and groups.

Object styles may also include in the following paragraph Style and a style of paragraphs in automatic way.

Object styles have several categories, you can choose which category is relevant to apply. For example, it is possible to apply the first style object to give the stroke and fill and apply a different object style to format the corners only and then apply the next. (With this method last only the applied object Style is linked).

Styles of the opportunity to make global changes in a document. If you build in a smart way, they are a huge time saver. They can be stored in the CC libraries or libraries with objects that are applied to them. If you have created once these styles, you can use them again, and with one or two clicks, you can make their own to new document.

My recommendation: the habit of Styles, name them always with the same names that it helps you to be accustomed to them and to work faster, much faster.

There are more models: Table Styles, Styles of cell, the Master Pages and color chart.

  • How to use paragraph and character styles properly?

I have a document in which the text has two colors (which has no style)

Black (normal) and Red (to highlight the keywords).

I needed to put these 2 in a style

    (black) paragraph style

    (red) character style

    Here's my question.

How can I make sure that when I use the paragraph style, she also uses the style of character but only on the Red words?

While I need not find/replace every word manually

I want to do at once.

If you want to add styles to a document already created:

    (1) create your character style that contains only the color of the characters

    (2) search and replace a text with red color search and replace with the new character style formatting. (Do not type anything in the text portion of the find and Replace dialog box)

    (3) create and apply your paragraph style to all. The text with the applied character Style will stay red.

  • After the creation of these character styles, apply clear replacements...

    Hello world

After you import the Word document into InDesign CS3 in some paragraphs, there are some substitutions of style. InDesign formatting styles are not correctly designed with paragraphs. Even if that word styles are mapped with InDesign styles exactly. If I select all paragrahs and click on the 'Clear the replacements' option in the palette paragraph styles, all InDesign formatting styles are applied correctly, but the character style formatting are removed. Please suggest how simply this script and make it run faster that anyone can suggest me. Also suggest me how can add this "Clear Override" syntax with this script. I want to make this very effective script. Thanks in advance to all.

    Concerning

    Indana

    Enough basic syntax, really.

First, as indicated in the documentation, the argument is optional; Second, its default behavior is "All". You get 'all', because you have not provided any argument, and you expected something else. Apparently, you want to clear the formatting only. Just use

    myStory[j].clearOverrides(OverrideType.PARAGRAPH_ONLY);

Notice that the documentation indicates the return type of this function is zero; This means that you get no return value, and it is of no use to "store" the result in a variable myOvClr.

  • How to choose a character style instead of the entire text selection when running a script?

I tried to change this line which is to select all the numbers:

This line is all, but by selecting all numbers. It only checks if there is more than one selected item. Selection of texts always returns the length of 1. That's why this review.

Well, it depends on what small caps you want. If it is small capitals, you can create it with:

    myDoc.characterStyles.add ({name: "SC", capitalization: Capitalization.SMALL_CAPS})

Otherwise, if you want to OpenType Small Caps (which may or may not work, depending on the font you're using)

    myDoc.characterStyles.add ({name: "SC", capitalization: Capitalization.CAP_TO_SMALL_CAP})

It's all in the object model viewer. You can find it by going to help-> ExtendScript Toolkit object model viewer

  • Character style strange applied when you create a new table

    Hi all

I have a table style. This is controlled using the cell styles. Cell styles is controlled using paragraph styles. Nothing complicated here.

When I create a new table by using the style, it seems. Accept that all of the text in the cells have an applied character style. So when I start to insert text in a cell, the text is formatted different style of paragraph, that I defined in the table style.

If I remove any character hairstyle for all the text in the table, it seems just as expected.

Any ideas on how to move forward with this? It's pretty annoying to have to select the table and remove all style characters before you can start using the table.

    Thank you!

    Martin

Check that a character style is not selected by default before you create your table.

  • remove character style color swatch

    Hello

I'm doing a search/replace using the script to remove the fill color of a character style.

So far I have to replace the current color by zero, using this:

    app.changeGrepPreferences.fillColor = myDocument.colors.item ("None");

But what I really need, is replaced by the question mark symbol, as below, so he can inherit from another color that I applied via a grep style.

    empty.png

To do this manually in Indesign I would control + click on the shade.

I spent the last few days looking for the magical forest of code I'm missing with no luck, I hope you guys can help.

    See you soon,.

    John

    Hey John,

    Try this one:

    app.changeGrepPreferences.fillColor = NothingEnum.NOTHING;

    Hope that helps.

    Screen Shot 2015-10-13 at 5.07.55 PM.png

Thank you for sending the files. One of the files does not contain any character or paragraph Styles. In the other, I see the character styles named as paragraph styles. All indications from within the file are that they were created as character styles. The file format includes indications of the type of the style as well on everything that they are applied and in the list displayed in the palette. All of these styles are indicated by styles of characters in both places. The attributes that are in the styles are limited to what is allowed in a character style.

In some places where the styles are applied, they are applied to the blocks of text or widget and replacements parts for paragraph-level attributes (i.e. h1 tag, space before and after, etc.). This leads me to suspect that they have can be created from blocks of text pointer tool selections (or other elements of text in widgets) and it was perhaps accidental that they have created using character Styles where paragraph Styles Panel rather than the Panel?
