The disk check is always performed at startup

The same disk check operation is wasting a lot of my time when I start my eMachines desktop computer. Is it possible to tell which device is causing the delay?

I started my system, he said to check the disc. The disk check began, he had run for a while. Then my power is out for a few seconds. Once the power was back on that I tried to reboot and nothing. The monitor shows no info yet. Just black says no signal and turns off. I have no option to boot or anything else besides. What I can do. Thank you

You did it of any material changes or software on the computer before this problem?

You can connect the monitor to a different display port or connect another monitor if possible and check if it works very well.

If the monitor is right, it implies that there is a problem with the graphics card or motherboard. In this scenario, I recommend you contact the manufacturer of your computer for help.

  • Cannot complete the disk check

Hello, please help. I'm not very comp savvy. I run Windows 7 Professional on my computer, I think that it is a 64-bit AMD chipset? My problem is that I have tried everything I can to throw the disc check start ay (NTFS?, so will not work while the drive is in use). I get a message that I have a corrupt firmware and so cannot run diskcheck. Do not know what software it may be and cannot recover until diskcheck is done... Catch 22. I tried the command prompt in elevated mode... .even without help because of NTFS! I am also told by convenience store that my ATI driver is not loaded. Tried using Windows 7 installation disc to repair, but it does not seem to have this facility... I wanted to just re - install Windows. Tried to start my chipset reinstall but was not sure which item to choose. Lost, lost, lost. Help, please?

First of all, scan SFC. The following link will help you:

    http://support.Microsoft.com/kb/929833/en-us

Then try running the disk check. If the problem persists, try running Seagate SeaTools from following link to scan the hard drive for errors (also works with hard drives Seagate-no):

    For Windows:

    http://www.Seagate.com/support/downloads/item/SeaTools-win-master/

For DOS (try it if did not work under Windows):

You can take a look at the following link on the Seagate SeaTools execution:

  • system hangs on the disk check

I have windows vista Home premium running pentium double heart with 1.5 GB of ram. When I turn the laptop he suggest me to run chkdsk. and it always crashes on 1% of the phase 1 of 3. I have to restart my laptop and it happens again. to run my laptop so cnacel chkdsk option. Help!

I had the same problem with CHKDSK suspended @ 1 second! But after reading several places (see the reference below links), I found a solution that worked for me in any case.

    At startup:
    • When you see the Dell Logo, press F8 repetedly = Boot mode safe
    • Advanced startup options
    • Repair your computer
    • CMD prompt
    • CHKDSK C: /F

That's how I was able to run CHKDSK. I had a problem that he was able to fix it!

    • /F fixes errors on the disk.
    • /V FAT/FAT32: displays the full path and name of every file on the disk. On NTFS: Displays the eventual cleanup messages.
    • /R Locates bad sectors and recovers readable information (implies / f).
    • L:size NTFS only: changes the size of the log file for the number specified in kilobytes. If the size is not specified, displays the current size.
    • /X force the volume to unmount it first if necessary. All open handles to the volume would then be invalid (implies / f).
    • /I NTFS only: performs a less vigorous check of index entries.
    • /C NTFS only: skips checking of cycles within the folder structure.
    • /B NTFS only: Re-evaluates bad clusters on the volume (implies / r)

  • Can I hard restart during the disk check?

I had a few friends and customers who had annoyed long check discs, which some have not read the menu and cancel the check before he started. I was wondering if do a hard reboot (holding the power button down) would cause any irreparable harm for disks being checked.

If chkdsk is run with options to fix file system errors or to investigate and fix bad sectors, and the program has found such and is be in the method of determining when the hard reset is complete, the files will be damaged. However, there is no physical damage to the disk. How that the effects of the system depends on what file (s) is/is damaged.

If chkdsk is run without parameters, the difficulty value system errors or scan file and difficulty of the sectors, audit only the disc bed and do not write on the disc. No error not desirable by putting an end to arbitrary test.

If the system goes in chkdsk on startup, which means that during the last use of the machine, before the last stop, one or more file i/o errors were detected and therefore the "dirty"indicator disc has been defined and chkdsk scheduled for the next boot. He should be able to complete, errors fixed. If it recurs, the cause must be sought.

As part of this, download the software for reader to check on the website of the manufacturer of the disk. Download the version that is burned to a CD or DVD. Do this. Boot from the CD/DVD and run the tests.

Original title: Check Disk computer error... Need help please

    Hello

my computer is unable to check the disk... I believe that my windows vista crashed and when I turn on my computer... it continues to try to check the disk, but it keeps going and it never ends.  Someone told me I could used a program of different control on different portable media disc such that a cd could solve this problem.

What is the way to bet to find such a program? Microsoft expects to have a disk of audit program which can be downloaded, or can you recommend something else?

Thank you very much for your time and help

    Hello

Make sure that you have the correct CD/DVD as first in the boot order in the BIOS. Do not forget
    to set again when finished.

    Check with HP support.

    -----------------------------------------

If this does not help, it looks like you have a hardware problem.

If the drive has completely failed you "might" be able to recover your data.

You can also save the data and re-install Windows 7. The hard drive can be put in another
computer as a 2nd drive (the best) or in an external USB enclosure. Either allows you to copy data
for removable media such as CD, DVD or other USB drives. Of course, there are professional
    recovery
services which are usually expensive - check with your local computer store and HP (one who
his own internal service and not of leeks and display a Best Buy or other stores).

Or you can use a boot Ubuntu CD to back up data.

Use Ubuntu Live CD to backup files from your Windows computer dead

  • Problem with the disk check.

    32-bit Vista Home Premium:

About 6 months ago, I ran a Check Disk from my C drive (using Vista error checking tool) and checked the two boxes before starting (fix Auto file system and search for errors / attempt to recover bad sectors).

He ran through the 1 5 6 controls without finding an error.

On the 6th and final verification that it is running, it hung (or the 4th of 5 controls it works - do not remember if it is 5 or 6 it works). According to me, he started the final control, but stopped and none did not move. A few hours later he still hadn't moved, so I did a hard stop.

Fortunately, everything was fine when I rebooted.

I use the computer since then without problems/errors obvious hard drive, but I'm afraid to run another check of the disk, even though I would right now.

Suggestions are welcome as to what might have caused the shot, and if I do another check of the disk.

Yes, it's essentially the same command.  Personally, I never use the other method - I just use the one that I you provided.

: You are right about the meaning switches - you already know or you're an awfully good guesser.  Since you have expressed interest, here's more information on CHKDSK you might find of interest with other switches and guidelines and some good information on how it works and how to use the results: http://www.vistax64.com/tutorials/67612-check-disk-chkdsk.html.

If you cannot complete a cHkdsk on your hard drive, then there is a problem with the player that must be resolved before it is any worse.  I would definitely give it another chance and also run the diagnostics that I recommended in a previous post.

I hope this helps and I hope that the test completes successfully this time.  If this isn't the case, I hope that the diagnostic test identifies the problem and it can be repaired than replaced (even if it's pretty rare - usually if it goes wrong it must be replaced).  If this is the case, I would as soon as possible to ensure that it is not so bad that you can no longer access the drive at all - but then again, there may be nothing wrong and we could be worrying for nothing but a bad block or two which is nothing to worry about in itself.

    Good luck!
