"The Dumpster" Dimension E521

Recently found an E521 in a dumpster. Missing hard drive. I temporarily placed a SATA to an old eMachines inside unit and the thing starts at least. My question is to introduce a new player in the dumpster so my dad can surf the net and wasting his time with his email. I want to put in a small SSD to start the beast and use his eMachines to the storage drive. What do I need find regarding the specifications for the SSD? I see SATA 3, mSATA, etc...

All help all what is ' All can provide would be greatly appreciated.

All SSD 2.5 "SATA III internal Solid State Drive (SSD) that will work in the Dimension E521, for a boot drive, the better to buy a 250 GB +-SSD, similar to this:

You'll need a 24 "SATA data cable, he has a spare power connector SATA already inside the case for a second SATA drive, plus a 3.5" to 2.5 "adapter is required for mounting the drive as follows:

Ed.  A thought, you might need a 3.5 "hard drive backplane, if not already provided Dell:

Well, it's a bit of a long story, so I'll try to make it as short and easy as possible.

My grandmother had the Dell Dimension E521 for some time in December of ' 06.  She had filled the C: drive with a bunch of junk and mandated the bureau with many useless shortcuts.  Later in November 10, she told me he had begun to stop and start on his own time at random, so I tried to do what I could with antivirus scan (AVG Free Edition), remove applications and unnecessary programs and try to demand for system recovery short.  While that makes the computer run faster, it still started and closed on itself.  His house has only the dial-up connection (which is almost impossible to update anything), so I brought it to my house for the best connection around 01/01/11 (9 days ago).

I could update the AVG Free Edition and Windows updates, and it found and cleared, a Trojan Virus.  The Dell still started and shut down on its own.  My next step was to use the disc re - install for Vista Home Basic 32-bit.  He old programs saved in a folder "Windows.old" on the C: drive and completely re-installed everything back to the original.  After I checked in the "Windows.old" folder and recorded something she didn't lose (such as images and videos), I deleted as much as I could out of it.  The only thing I could not remove from it was 4 'driver files '.  For a while the computer trying to run 'chkdsk' on its own seizure began, but froze in the middle of it.  He finally ended the 'chkdsk' once and didn't try again since.  It downloaded and installed updates Windows of 100 or more on its own as well.

After all, it still does the same thing he has with housing starts and shut downs.  The closure of downs occur not just in the middle of the execution of a given program; they occur at any time at random, even if I use the computer in safe mode.  She always goes through the whole stops the process with the "logging off" and "closing" legends, it is not as if the electric system is down.  The start-up occur randomly as well, even if a stop is purposely through the Start Menu or hold down the power button.  Sometimes, he's trying to start and shut down on its own several times without fully load.

Again, sorry this is so long, but I would like to know if there is anything that can be done to get this thing to CUT IT OUT because my grandmother wants as his computer back!

  • Dell Dimension E521 Setup - locked out of installation, do not know how to reset the password

Hello. I have a problem with my Dell Dimension E521.

On the Setup screen when I press F2, I added an administrator password in the security field.

I thought I knew the password, as I had written somewhere, but I can't.

I don't know how to reset the password - it told me to remove the admin password by entering a blank password in the new and confirm

password, but it won't let me move down.

Can someone give me directions as to how can I reset my password without having to re - install my OS again? Thank you.

    My computer specs:
    Model: Dell Dimension E521

    RAM: 2 GB

Model and the speed of the processor: AMD Athlon Dual Core 2 GHz

OS: Microsoft Windows Vista - Home premium (32 Bit edition), service pack 1

Locate the password jumper 2 pins (PSWD) on the system board and remove the jumper to clear the password.

It is located next to the PCIe location.

Nope.  Intel chips use different chipsets and different the SB of AMD processor sockets.  If your computer is equipped with an AMD processor you must upgrade with an AMD processor.

  • Adding a second hard drive on a Dimension E521

I want to install a second hard drive in my Dimension E521. I found a power cable that connects the original drive and the second drive, but not for the 2nd drive data cable.  I have another data cable, but where can I reach the other end? I don't see another place on the motherboard to connect to.

Thank you very much for the research.

How to add a second SATA hard drive.

Basically, all you need is a 24 "[or more] x 180 * 90 x * [square] SATA cable data, similar as unit HERE , try to buy the cable of a store of the local computer, to save the S & H."

HERE are the details to install the second hard disk.

Connect the SATA data cable to any connector SATA open the card mother and once installed, the internal hard drive access configuration and verify that the drive and the port it is connected also is set to [OFF] auto.

Location of the four motherboard SATA connectors, can be seen HERE

For windows to recognize the second hard drive, it must be partitioned and formatted using the Windows Disk Manager.

The system configuration details are HERE.

Use one of the power connectors SATA [P3, P5, P8, and P9] inside the case, see HERE for more details.

  • DELL DIMENSION E521 + Windows 7

Hello everyone - this is my first post!

I have a Dell Dimension e521 that came with Windows XP Professional pre-installed (real key and everything).

I bought this machine of opportunity without hard drives or disks of the driver/operating system. At first I tried using a couple of genuine oem Windows XP Home Edition activation keys that are working flawlessly on other physical machines or virtual, I had. I also had a untouched XP Professional oem drive, which, despite my genuine key did not work.

When I tried to install XP Home OEM on a disk sata hard freshly arrived, I bought off of eBay (I wiped with activekilldisk/dbandiskwipe first) I couldn't go past the window product key during the installation of XP even if the same drive and the same key had been used without fault on my Dell Inspiron 6000 laptop among other scenarios (cleaned). I also used the same disk XP Home oem combined with the touch of the inspiron and it worked.

I finally gave up, called Dell Sweden, said that I was not the first owner of the machine, I bought this what and second-hand and they agreed to send me the original disk DELL Windows XP operating system for a small fee. When I used this Dell disc combined with the product key on the computer case, everything worked!

THUS, the question at issue. I want to buy a genuine OEM Windows 7 Home Premium x 64 edition, paste the label of the product key on the top of the Dell case and install this instead of Windows XP Professional. I'll be able to do this, or Windows 7 like XP before him, will stop at the product key/activation step?

On a sidenote: as a prior warning should the original Dell XP disc to get scratched or damaged I recently created an image file with IMGBurn cloned and wrote the backup disk image. Accept my cloned copy or can the machine that's not the original?

    Thank you!

Oh, I also wanted to talk... you said you were trying to install XP Home disks (at least some of them), but you said your license for XP Professional... Pro requires a key Pro and Home requires a key to the House, because they are not interchangeable, nor is a key "greater" good for a lower version (key Pro will not work on the House).

"I really don't understand why the Dell key does not work with an iso-disk of Windows XP Professional without brand." The Dell machine is locked by the key original and original media? Say, original disc destroyed before performing a copy/image. »

XP was VERY picky with his keys.  Everything had to match - channel (VL, OEM, Retail), and each has been given to accept certain keys.  Dell Media wouldn't work on other brands (not 100%, but in general), media HP wouldn't work on other brands (which is true).  The key OEM always and only belongs to the system with which it was SOLD, and it had to be only in the media use it right.  Brand of OEM disks would be auto / auto activate using a generic OEM SLP key integrated into the installation CD.  Generic OEM doesn't have this feature without the system integrator using the generator/Deployment Toolkit to implement.

    (a) Yes, you can use a copy of the installation disc - made repeatedly (fortunately I worry is no longer for XP)

    (b) Yes, you can do a clean Windows 7 install, regardless of the type of media you get; Microsoft designed to use the detail in your situation, not OEM - that's all what I was saying it.

"Another thing with the commercial version - I only need 7 for a specific machine, not 3"

    Matt.

You should be able to go to the AMD Athlon 64 X 2 5600 +.

Also the Athlon 64 X 2 6000 + should work, but make sure you buy the processor 89W version.

First of all check if you have the latest version of the BIOS before the upgrade.

  • Dimension E521, windows resume loader, USB keyboard does not?

I have a Dimension E521. When it starts up (windows 7 32 bit) happens to "resume the windows loader. I can't choose option I have a USB keyboard that does not start. Why is there no PS/2 port on the back of my office?

    Thank you
    Jill

PS/2 ports have gone in the way of the dodo bird.

Have you had a power failure or not stop correctly?

Have you tried another USB port at the back of the Tower?

Try to restart, and then press F2 before Windows starts to load to open the BIOS Setup. Search all the USB settings and make sure that they are all enabled. Save the changes before you exit the installer and see if you can deal with the problem of charger now.

If this does not work, try this:

    1. If you can enter the BIOS setup by pressing F2, copy all the current BIOS settings
    2. Power off, unplug
    3. Power button press / hold for about 15 seconds
    4. Open the case and remove the motherboard battery
    5. Power button press / hold for about 30 seconds
    6. Replace the battery (use a new if it is old)
    7. Case of close and reboot and see if you can solve the problem of charger now

  • Dimension E521 HD4850 or 8800GT?

    Hi all

I have a Dimension E521 with the following specifications:

    -AMD X 2 5000 + 2.6 Ghz

    -2 GB of ram

    -250 GB hard drive

    -stock 305 watt power supply

    -TV tuner (PCI standard)

    -a dvd burner

I was about to move to a 8800GT, when I saw the ATI HD4850, it costs almost the same as the 8800GT and is almost as fast as the 9800GTX! Which is the best choice?

    Updated list:

-MSI 8800GT OC or Sapphire HD4850

-Antec Earthwatts 380 Watt power supply

-2 Antec Pro 80mm case fans

I heard the HD4850 has high enough temperatures, so I go for the performance (HD4850) or be the good side (8800GT)? The Dimension E521 has a Nvidia chipset, but that's okay, I'm right?

    Help is very appreciated.

    Max.

PS: Sorry for my English, I'm Dutch :)

EDIT: I saw this the 9800GT is almost exactly identical to the 8800GT, but it's cheaper. And I heard from a friend that the ATI drivers are HORRIBLE, so I think I'll go to the 9800GT. Am I wrong?

  • Financial Reporting - the user can access the POV dimensions

Hello. In collaboration with the 11.1.2.3.700 version. Have a HFM user that can go in HFM and see all members and data (scenarios, entities, customs, etc.) within HFM. When he goes to EN to run reports, however, he has problems with dimensions that are secured in HFM - entity, scenario, (custom) data type. If one of these dimensions is the point of view, they do not show when it displays an overview from the point of view and then the report does not work because there is no selection. If these dimensions are defined in the report (which is not part of the POV), the report runs well.

There is no preference user limiting POV members and reports are not confined to specific user POV members. Other people can run those reports very well. Also tried to make this user a HFM and the Foundation (which EN) administrator and even there the problem.

    Any thoughts?

    Thank you

    Eric

Hello. A great co-worker has solved the problem. She used the ManageUserPOV.cmd utility to export users POVs. The user in question had an entry for the missing dimension, so he was never invited to do and reports failed. Imported and supplied the lack of dimension and it works fine now.
