The files are still in my list even after I deleted the

I'm done with a large number of duplicate files after recovery of hard drive and external hard drive crash.

I had been using various programs to remove duplicates, but now I'm at the stage of manually delete the duplicate files similar but not identical, for example a song where I had no title in 1 file and the details in another.

I hit delete every time and the first duplicate is removed from the list and then goes to the trash. Fine.

Then I go to delete the copy next, completely different, and it does not seem to be deleted. It remains in the list. Even if I go in the trash, there is the deleted file! So I empty the trash. It still shows in the library list, even if I close and reopen

In desperation I restart the computer and guess what? Files are gone from the list.

What has now happened 5 times!

The risk is that I accidentally remove both versions of the file.

Ideas greatly appreciated!

It seems that the folder does not refresh.  Libraries are essentially views of search results, so it's maybe it shows results indexed instead of living folder views.  To work around this problem, I would suggest either by opening the folder without using libraries (such as navigating to C:\Users\Martin\Music) or try pressing F5 after removing to see if it refreshes.

So I tried to find on the C drive, I thought that maybe they had just moved somewhere else. I even went in the folder options to show hidden folders, but the files are not in one of these folders.

However I know that the files are still there, because when I look at the properties of the drive C with the right click of the mouse, it says drive C is always full, as it was before the system recovery. So this means that the files are still there but I don't know where.

  • Files with the help of Transcend F25 external USB Drive: copy, but I don't see that empty folders (disk size indicates that the files are still there, though)

    Hello-

I use Windows 7 Professional and everything seems to work very well. I joined my new Transcend f25 USB (300g) to use for backups. I copied on about 20 concerts of archives and had run Windows it's first backup.

Everything seemed fine, and the available space on the disc is now about 230g, that sounds right. The problem is I see only empty folders on disk!

Now, I know with certainty that the files are there because I tried to plug the drive in an old laptop XP - bingo there was all my files! Can someone advise me? This seems to be a configuration problem, or maybe a drive error. The files were there when I added in the first place, however, is very strange!

How can I see my files? Help!

    Thanks, Dave

Check the disk for errors by using this procedure.
    1. open the computer by clicking the Start button, click computer.

2 - Click on the drive you want to check, and then click Properties.

    3. click on the Tools tab and then, under check for errors, click Find now.  If you are prompted for an administrator password or a confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

To automatically repair problems with files and folders that the scan detects, select automatically fix file system errors. Otherwise, the disk check will be a problem, but not to fix them.

To perform a thorough check, select search and attempt to recover bad sectors. This analysis tries to find and repair physical errors on the disk itself, and it may take much longer to complete.

To check for errors file and the physical errors, select both automatically fix errors in file system and search for and attempt recovery of bad sectors.

    4. click on start.

    Kind regards.

  • Deleted files are still too much space on my hard drive, how to make their deleted permanently?

I deleted a large file containing about 60 gigs of my hard drive by sending to the trash and empty the collector, because the car was full.  All files were gone, my computer does not recognize free space and won't let me not defragment the hard drive or save any new data on the hard drive, saying that he is too full.  What should I do?

Either you have an application that saves you from yourself (Norton used to have what we call the "Norton Protected Recycle Bin" which has given a second chance to restore files) or if you have something else take place.

Did you restart after having emptied the Recycle Bin?

Have you run Disk Cleanup (start > run > cleanmgr > OK)

Assuming that the answers to the two questions above is Yes and you are still weak on the disk, download and run JDiskReport, space that will graphically show you what files are taking up space on your hard drive.  For more advice, post back with the identification of the culprits.

If you do not have enough space to install JDiskReport (about 2 MB), here are some ways to save space:

    • Turn off System Restore (right-click on desktop > properties > system restore > check the 'Disable the the system restore on all drives' > OK)
    • Disable Hibernation (Control Panel > Power Options > Hibernate > uncheck > OK)
    • Disable the Indexing Service (instructions here)

When you turn the system restore, make sure that only your system (usually C:\) partition is monitored and then click the settings button in the System Restore tab and adjust the amount of space used by restoring the system to 1 GB.

  • My .exe files are not open as they should after a virus removal and some do not work right.

Here's the problem. I did a scan for viruses with AVG and deleted viruses from my computer. One of those annoying virus seems to be a program called Vista Antivirus that I had never downloaded or installed. I had a feeling that it was not good when she appeared all first. After that AVG has found to be a threat, he removed. This is where the problems started.

After the removal of Antivirus Vista, my programs refuse to open without a right click and run as administrator. In some cases, like my WMP, the music and the Zune program, they do not work properly. Whenever I try to open a song in WMP or Zune, it won't play them or videos. Instead, as with all other programs, the 'Open with' window as if it does not recognise .exe files. So now you can see my aggravation.

There is one more problem. After that I restart and login to my account and open the Task Manager to close unnecessary programs that I don't need or want to open, there are usually a whole list of them. However, as I did this virus removal, only a few main Basic programs that are needed to power the computer are open. Since most of those who opened before were .exe files, I can see where is the problem.

Honestly, I'm stuck for what to do to solve this problem. I'll do a system restore and see if it works (and I hope it will be). If this isn't the case, I need little help and instructions to fix this annoying problem.

Thank you for taking the time to read this and help out me.

Edit: System Restore has been a success. Is there anyway I can stop this from happening in the future?

    Hi ignite444,

Glad to hear that the problem is solved!

Unwanted programs or virus downloaded on the computer without the user's knowledge.

Important Antivirus software must be updated regularly to stay effective against new viruses. Most of the antivirus software are designed to update automatically, but you can also update your software manually.
You should also keep during the virus scan regularly.

    Update your anti-virus software

check the link below for the number of Windows vista-compatible antivirus software.

  • My program and other files on my C drive & external drives seem to be "deleted", but the virus scans show that the real files are still there...

I use Windows Vista and the antivirus software Kerpersky internet on my Dell laptop. A virus 'seems have wiped my desktop and programs files and the directory of my document files, and index on my C drive and my external drive which was attached when you save.' .. that is the index of the two drives is empty shows that no file already exist...

Kerpesky worked at the time, but he could not stop the attack. However, Karpersky himself was apparently not affected, and when I run that s Karpersky it scanning readings missing files on the C drive and the external drive as being there but appears to any threat of threats...

I managed to get my office back in a configuration much earlier using a Windows roll back feature that resets the list of programs and some very old directories and older files, but I can't see the previous desktop, nor my current "desktop", or a 'my document' content etc.

When I jump into Excel and pick up the last file used, that has been saved on my desktop, it chose upward and able to be re-registered, but if I try to view a list of files via Excel or MS Word, none are found.  Another problem is that my backup disk has got so touched.  I am concerned to recover all my files and also not to overwrite anything on my C drive in the meantime. What are the best tools to solve this problem?

    Thank you

    Peter

Problem has been fixed.  I had a breakthrough last night when I did a bit of research to specific directories and found that files and directories 'lost' were just 'hidden '. I used the Windows tools to display all the files and directories hidden in the C drive and HARD drive and were able to view each of them to solve my problem.

    Thank you very much

  • My Windows 7 Upgrade is still stuck at 62%, even after downloading the patch Microsoft Fix It several times.

I tried several times to upgrade to Windows 7 Windows Vista Home Premium. It goes through all the steps, but at the last stage, at 62 he gets stuck, then stops, restarts and said then the upgrade has failed and that Windows Vista will be restored.
I found several sites that give a link to a Microsoft Fix It tool that should take care of this problem. I downloaded this patch Fix It, but the upgrade is still stuck at 62%. What can I do on this please?

If possible, try to do a restore of Windows Vista and try the following:

1 disable any security software before you attempt to upgrade or do a clean install.
    2. make sure that your computer is updated (devices and applications)
    3. disconnect all external devices before installing.
    4. check your hard disk for errors:
    Click Start
Type: CMD, according to the results, right-click CMD
    Click on "Run as Administrator"
At the command prompt, type: chkdsk /f /r
When you restart your system, your computer will be scanned for errors and will try to correct them.

In addition, run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor, it will scan your system and provide a report telling you if your PC can run Windows 7, and if there is no compatibility problems with your hardware or programs.

  • Part of a homegroup, and shared files are still ask for a network password

    Hello

I'll try to give as much information as I can so that I hope someone can help me with this problem.
I'm running Windows 8 pro and my other computer has Windows 8 pro.  On both systems, I am running Windows on a SSD, and I share the folders that are on a hard disk of data as well as access to an external hard drive connected to one of the computers.
Both computers are part of the same homegroup.  Both computers are password protected (at startup).  I use one of the computers and my husband the other use it so all of us, the newspapers in our own computer via our Acct. Microsoft computers also "turn off password protected sharing" selected in advanced sharing settings.  Both computers say that we are the administrator in respect of user accounts.
My husband can access all my files shared from his computer, generally with no problems, but on occasion, he is invited to "Enter network password" of Windows Security.  I almost always have this problem while trying to access its shared folders and the external hard drive that is connected to his computer.
We have tried to share the folders on your computer in several ways:
    Share with homegroup
    Share with everyone
    Share with >
with total control over each of them and I get the message that precedes, or sometimes he tells my I can't access this drive.  Also, one thing I forgot is that each of our computers, said that the other user has the credentials in Credential Manager.
I feel like part of my problem is while the computer says I'm an administrator, I have always problems to the administrator.  When I try to install new software (this happened to me with Dropbox) I had to right click on the .exe and run as administrator.  I also had set my Adobe Photoshop Lightroom on run as administrator under 'Compatibility' for all work processes.
I am at a loss to know what to do.  I did a clean install with my Windows 8 disk to see if it was only a problem with I've originally set up the system.  If anyone can help, I would be very happy.  I feel like I'm missing just this thing that's right in front of me that I can't because I'm too close to the issue.

    Hi Candace,

I suggest to restore all security permissions, then check the issue.

Follow these steps to do so.

    a. open the command prompt by pressing the Windows key + X , and then click on (Admin) command prompt.

    b. typesecedit/configure /cfg %windir%\inf\defltbase.inf/db defltbase.sdb / verbose and press ENTER.

I suggest to run Homegroup troubleshooter and check for the issue. It will tell you if there is something wrong in the homegroup connection. See the link to do so.

  • Why are there "No content found" even after updating the Guide on WMC. I also note that, on the main page of ITV, none of the links are clickable. What gives?

I removed and re-installed Internet TV for my Home Premium from windows system 7 several times, using an account administrator as well as a standard user account. I find that the ITV homepage is NOT clickable; the links don't point out even when I hover over them (top tv, full episodes, etc.). I also click on an icon of TMZ in alternation, which, once clicked active active search at the top right of the screen button, but when I opt for the Internet TV within the open window radio button I've always found "no content found. Does anyone have an idea here? Confused in Maryland.

Microsoft has removed Internet TV in Windows Media Center effective 9/20.
