The JVM maximum heap size

I upgraded the memory in my server today from 1 GB to 4 GB.

Went to set the size of the heap max 2 GB instead of 512 MB, and CF wouldn't restart.

Manually changed the file config and is went back up to 1 GB (even a doubling of the size) and all is well.

Tried to manually edit to something greater than 1 GB, and CF server would not restart.

I did a lot of research on this and found conflicting info, etc..

East Alexander, c. Adam or anyone out there who knows the suggested/best/reasoning for setting?

CF MX 6.1 updated; IIS 6, Windows 2003 server, SQL 2003 sp 4.

Thank you

Mike

There are approximately 1.3 GB limit by the JVM heap. It's one thing to 32-bit.

Send with a 64-bit JVM, then you can go higher. But Adobe only goes to support on Solaris.

If you want more, go to the company and turn additional instances.

  • Difficulty maintaining the application maximum window size.

I close a window of the application to its maximum size, but when I restart this application it opens in a small window, I then need to maximize. How can I configure windows to reopen the (maximum) size, they were closed? Thanks for any help/tips you can offer me.

Either to set the properties of the shortcut to open the program "Enlarged" or, extend the application windowed in question to as large as you want, and then close. A windowed application will reopen last windowed size, it's in before it closes.

  • Important conceptual issue on the Application Module, maximum Pool size

    Hi all

We have a critical issue for the default settings of the Application Module (taking a data source DB connections)

I know that on the Web, it is generally suggested that each request must end with a commit or rollback when executing blocks PL/SQL 'directly' on the DB without the intervention of service framework ViewObject/BC/entity.

Now, for some reason, we started to develop our applications with the thought that each Web Session référenceriez exactly a DB session (open any instance taken AM pool) during the duration of the session, so that the changes made by each session Web DB session would never interfere with the changes made by 'other' Web Sessions to 'other' DB sessions.

In other words, because of this persuasion, we implemented often sort of "transactions" that open and close (with commit or rollback) every DB session not in and after a single HTTP request, but during several HTTP requests.

As think of a concrete example of this scenario:

    1. the user presses the button "insert." An HTTP request is triggered. The action listener is running and ends with the insertion of rows in a table via a block PL SQL (not via the ViewObjects API).
    2. no commit or rollback after the PL/SQL block above is still done.
    3. Finally, the user presses a button of 'Validation' or 'Dismantling', taken from the appropriate call to the AM methos.

These three applications are what I called the "transaction".

Literature, it is clear that there is no guarantee that the couple HAVE istance + DB session is the same in all applications.
This means that, during step 2, it is possible that another user can do reference the same 'pending' AM / DbSession for its needs and 'fly' sort the work done via PL/SQL after step 1. (This happens because sessions taken poolside are always cancelled by default).

    Now my question is:
Suppose that we have defined the parameter 'Maximum Pool size' to the very many (always less than the maximum number of concurrent users):
Is there a guarantee that all applications will be isolated in this case?

I hope that the problem is clear.
Let me know if you want more details.

    Hello

No, I don't think that there is a specific guarantee - at least according to the documentation. You could open an SR with support for asking the question and ask them to refer the matter to the development. The way to ensure things would be to disable AM pooling, which, according to the literature, is not a configuration supported for production.

I know it's probably not what you want to hear, but if you hired me to come and consult with you, my recommendation would be to redefine the architecture you have. In the end, you'll be happier with the results. If you have an API of PL/SQL, you use, you could write an extension of the generic framework for your EOs that could take advantage of the API of PL/SQL instead of SQL calls (there was little prior work on this and N of Frank, recently said that he would become an EMG effort, but not until next year). If you did, you can further increase your PL/SQL, but without violating the rule "don't let state pending in the session DB".

  • Change the maximum size of the JVM heap to 1024 gives error

Change the maximum size of the JVM heap to 1024 gives an error.

    Environment:

    CF9
    Windows 2003 R2 Sp2 operating systems
    XEON PROCESSOR
    RAM 2 GB

After the installation of ColdFusion, one of the parameters that gets changed is:
Server settings > Java and JVM > (MB) 1024 maximum JVM heap size
ColdFusion Application service does not start with this setting. A file of errors is created in \ColdFusion9\runtime\bin\hs_err_pid1234.log (where 1234 number changes). The details of the log file are long so soon stick a sample.

Arguments for the JAVA virtual machine are:
    Java.args =-Server-Xmx1024m - Dsun.io.useCanonCaches = false - XX: MaxPermSize = 192 m - XX: + UseParallelGC-Dcoldfusion.rootDir={application.home}/... /-Dcoldfusion.libPath={application.home}/... / lib - Dcoldfusion.classPath={application.home}//lib/updates, {application. Home} /... / lib {cation.home} / app... /Gateway/lib /, {application. Home} /... / wwwroot/Web-INF/Flex/Jars, {application. home} /... / wwwroot/Web-INF/cfform/Jars

The JVM max 1024 m is one of the commonly recommended changes. Why change the maximum FMV of 512 m prevents ColdFusion from running?

It is indeed a strange problem. Something does not seem right/normal.

I did some digging and found a blog entry potentially useful:

    http://iamgoat.com/post/804922016/ColdFusion-application-server-wont-start-after-Windows

It looks just like your problem, but it is true, it offers a quite specific problem/solution, that may not apply.

Here's another question: are you looking in the \runtime\logs directory? The log files it may show more information on the problem, maybe before or after the time that develop these logs of PID? They may be secondary to another primary problem. Search specifically for the OutOfMemory string in the log files.

If that can't find anything, I would suggest another thought: consider changing the JAVA virtual machine. I see you are using 1.6_0_14. There are several points between it and the last _21 you can try.

Finally, a thought more to consider: since this is the Hotspot compiler which reports the error (SH in hs_err_pidnnnn.log), it is possible that the addition of a switch to turn off Hotspot, just to go beyond that, could give a different error message with perhaps more information. In the following (or the CF admin, if we in Standard mode or server), try to add - Xint.

Let us know if any help.

Also did anyone know if a 4.6 view upgrade will increase the size of segment correctly if the RAM is increased before the upgrade to 4.5 takes place, therefore not having to do a complete reinstall?

    Thank you

On page 69 of the installation guide, it shows how to change the JVM for X 86 servers.  Maybe this will give you a place to start looking for your current size.  On X 64 if it has been installed with the 10 GB of memory, then would be a chunk of memory to 2 GB size and anything less than 10 GB would result in a segment size of memory 512 MB.

  • Where are defined the jvm min and max sizes?

Guess I should know this. ABC, Workbench, dgraph - have been are size minimum and maximum Java virtual machines? I don't see them implemented as part of the command line arguments.

You can increase the size of the segment for Workbench and PlatformServices in setenv.sh.
You can find these files in
    */Workbench//server/bin *.
    */PlatformServices//Tools/server/bin *.

For EAC, you can provide arguments in eaccmd.sh heap size
    */PlatformServices//bin *.

  • JVM in CF8 Max heap size

I recently installed CF8 trial on a Win2003 Server (32 bit), 2-processor 2.6 GHz AMD dual-core, 8 GB of RAM. I'm certain my CFMX6.1 reference system production processes, but I can't get the JVM settings to match. On my production server, I have the maximum size set to 1536M, but I can't start CF8 with something more than 1024M (I get this error 0 x 2). Obviously, it is a newer JRE, but I don't understand why I can't go up to 1.5 GB on it.

Also, should I change the default JVM settings?

    -Server - Dsun.io.useCanonCaches = false - XX: MaxPermSize = 512 m - XX: MaxNewSize = 16 m - XX: NewSize = 16 m - XX: + UseParallelGC-Dcoldfusion.rootDir={application.home}/... /-Dcoldfusion.libPath={application.home}/... / lib

You will find a number of discussions in the forums of coldfusion and the related Sun own forums to this. But a simplified version is that only ~1.5G of RAM can be treated by a process on a machine 32 bits. You have MaxPermSize = 512 m, so there's your concert in the first half. If you have only 1024 m to the left. Thus, there is your limit.

Difference between material FAT & FAT32?

First, note that there are three varieties of FAT: FAT12, FAT16, and
FAT32. Many people call just FAT16 FAT, because before that FAT32 is out.
FAT16 is the only variety used for hard drives, so just
    The FAT was not enough.

FAT12 (hardly any more used) had a maximum volume size of 12 MB.
It has been used almost exclusively for floppy disks.

FAT16 was used on hard disks (or partitions) up to 4 GB and had a
cluster size which varied from 2 KB to 64 KB, depending on the size of
the partition. It serves almost never again, because almost nobody does
a as small as 4 GB partitions.

FAT32 FAT16 succeeded and has a maximum drive size of 2 TB. His
maximum file size is 4 GB, which explains why you can't copy a file of 5 GB to
it. its cluster size is 4 KB up to an 8 GB partition. Beyond 8 GB the
cluster size develops up to 32 KB.
NTFS, that's what almost everyone should use on their hard drives
today. Its maximum volume size is 2 ^ ^ 64-1 and its maximum file size
16 × 1024 is ^ ^ 6 bytes (much more than the bigger hard drive available
today). Cluster size is 4 KB, regardless of the size of the volume.

I have a disk full of files, and it is in the FAT32 file system. As I can't copy large files (5 GB +) in this player, I intend to fix this by changing the file systems.

    Good! You should.

Apparently, it is not possible to do it without formatting.

It's not correct. To convert to NTFS, use you the CONVERT
command. But first read http://www.aumha.org/a/ntfscvt.htm , because
There is an important question about the size of cluster that is not obvious.

Also note that conversion is an important step, touching everything on your
drive. When you take a big step, no matter how unlikely it is
always possible that something can go wrong. For this reason, there
careful to make sure that you have a backup of everything you can not afford to
    lose before you start.

  • the Java heap size

    Hello

I was asked to find the size of java segment of one of our environments using foglight. I was able to navigate my way to a dashboard in foglight, who seemed to have this information. But now I can't find it. I was wondering if anyone had any idea on how to find that. I also remember seeing that there are individual graphs for each host showing the segment size of java. But that would be great if we could create an overview of all the machines in such an environment, showing that information. Any suggestions on how to achieve this would be most valuable.

    Thank you!!

There are several places where you can see your application use JVM Server

When you look at the systems, the right top table shows a list of server, clicking an indication of the JVM opens the memory usage overview

If you click on the name JAVA virtual machine in the pop up it will take you to the JVM info dashboard

If you look at the dashboard server application and the selected server you can click on its icon JVM and view the pop-up of the JAVA virtual machine, you can again click on the JVM name and go to the dashboard details JVM

  • BlackBerry Smartphones how can I increase the maximum file size allowed on the media?

Whenever I have record video using the video camera, after a very short time it will stop recording and gives a message 'maximum size of the file reaches. I've adjusted the settings to save in 'Normal' mode, but while recording appears in last a short time, the result file size is way too big to be able to easily send to contacts. When you use the MMS mode the recording time is much too short. Is it possible to increase the maximum allowed size of the file so that a resulting video would be about 3-4 MB or less?

You can download any software video conversion on the net. just try this one "Freestudio".
