The mediasmart EX470 server memory upgrade

I have a server of mediasmart EX470 with 500 MB of memory and want to update this 2 GB. I found the spec upgrade - being DDR2 667 MHz DIMMS. However, I'm not sure how to get out the MB to change memory. I live in the rural areas of the Canada, if I have enough to send it anywhere.

Everyone sings this chore before? It's a little a Chinese puzzle box.

Hi TomTireGuy,

I have not done it myself, but I just did some quick "Googling" and found this page which contains the instructions: http://www.homeserverhacks.com/2007/12/upgrade-memory-in-your-hp-ex470.html

I hope it helps.

  • The Portege 7140 (HDD, memory) upgrade

    Hello
I recently bought a second hand Portege through eBay. I did a little research and I feel that the 7140 has a Bay memory expansion in which I can put a stick of memory of 32 MB, 64 MB, 128 MB, or 256 MB. Toshiba sells only a maximum of 128 MB, but Kingston sells a key of 256 MB for laptop. The 256 MB will work fine?

Second question - can stick any disk drive 2.5 "EIDE in the laptop? Is there a technical specification somewhere that lists the BIOS revision against the sizes of drive support?

Last question - I have not actually received the laptop again and read the pdf data sheet it seems as if she isn't an internel floppy drive? If this is correct, the only way I'll be able to upgrade the bios is through the windows, is this correct? The only problem, if this is the case, it's that I use Linux not Windows. I might have to buy an external floppy drive.

In any case thank you for any help or suggestions anyone may have.

    Jon

    Hi Spinksi,

Colleague of mine has the same machine at home. He put 256 MB of RAM and it works fine. Its RAM is manufactured by Toshiba. You can also use RAM Kingston.

There's also a 20-GB HARD drive. It works fine. Before changing do updating BIOS HARD drive. You can find the latest Version on http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com/cgi-bin under download BIOS. You'll find Toshiba BIOS update Description. Read it before you continue. It is very important.

So I know we're no sort of spec where you can find data on the BIOS and disk sizes.

Answer to your last question is: you're right. Portege had no floppy drive, and you need to update the BIOS. But I'm sure you can find cheap one by ebay.

    Good bye

  • The Veriton x 275 memory upgrade

We try to upgrade memory in some of our workstations in a local small business. We have about 100 Acer machines (models vary), but generally include the x 275 for our old machines.

We bought (through online vendors) memory from Corsair and Gskill (as their customer support is great and the products) However, none of the memory has been consistent. We bought (single) 2 GB and 4 GB kits (two-channel) nothing works. (All the sticks of memory were DDR3 PC3-10600 and the same voltage / similar timings as OEM chips.)

I looked in the online documentation for the Veriton x 275 (in which there are very few technical specifications or a list of qualified suppliers) and got absolutely no information on is that the memory taken maximum supported the recommended voltage, timings.

Someone has had problems upgrading these desktop computers and know what is best for the machines OR does anyone have access to the appropriate documentation that could shed some light on what we should buy? My only guess is perhaps the new memory is high density, and these machines can support only low density sticks.

It turns out that it was indeed a problem with memory being high density. We ended up ordering memory from crucial and had no problems what so ever. Even if the memory was the same exact timings, voltage and rated for the same speed, the difference between them is the density of the modules themselves. The old boards do not like high density memory (8 chips instead of say 4 for the same size) and yet the same version of high-density worked in newer models.

  • Computer HP Desktop M1188A upgraded the HARD drive and memory upgrade possible

    Hello

I have a HP Desktop M1188A running XP Media Center 2005.  The computer runs very slowly and was only 27.6 GB of free space left on the hard drive with a total area of 149GB.  It has 512 MB of memory installed a 4 GB maximum.  Speed supported is PC3200 MB/sec.  Type of DDR.  DIMM slots 4.  160 GB 7200 RPM SATA hard drive.  Fact hard drive 160 GB 7200 RPM SATA means it is a SATA connection?

I want to switch the HARD disk like this I hope that the computer runs faster.  I'm a complete novice with respect to the operation of computers.  What to buy to upgrade the HARD drive?

Will it also upgrade the installed memory?  If so, what to do?

    Everything I need to know?

    Thank you.

    See you soon,.

Try for battery HP to THE Bing search engine, I found several sites in line with the Chargers and batteries. BattDepot Australia seems to have decent prices... At$ 24.49 for the loader and THE $37,49 for battery. If you have not yet checked the HP battery reminder page, I recommend you do this first.

  • Recovering Server HP MediaSmart EX470 and first connector install with Windows 7 Client?

Hi, I just recovered my HP MediaSmart Server EX470 to him, State of origin using the 'server recovery disc"and tried to install the client on my first computer that is running Windows 7.  Of course the MediaSmart software date new Windows 7 and comes back with a message "Cannot be installed on this operating system".  I know there was a HP MediaSmart update to deal with Windows 7 but I don't know how to get on the server when I can not connect...  I tried the DRC in the server and I guess that the name of user and password admin is not yet activated...  Two questions: -.

How can I get the software MediaSmart Windows 7 installed on my server or Client from here?

Can I enter the server in any other way?

I checked the forums, but couldn't find any solution, thank you in advance, Peter

Hi, after a bit of thought I had an idea if I post this in case anyone else needs the answer!  I have Windows 7 Ultimate, I was able to download and install Windows XP Mode at http://www.microsoft.com/windows/virtual-pc/download.aspx.

Step 1: Download Windows XP Mode
Step 2: Download Windows Virtual PC
Step 3: update Windows XP Mode

Then you can run the connector from Windows XP and download the update for Windows 7 for Smart Media and Windows Home Server!  Best regards, Peter

  • What is the maximum amount of memory in a Pavilion P6020 - Win8 upgrade?

I can't find what the maximum amount of memory can be placed in the Pavilion P6020.

As it is necessary to do a re-install of the operating system supplied with the system (Vista), I would check if it makes sense to improve the Win8-64 bit system and increase memory to 3 GB to 4 or even better of 6 GB.

Currently, the system has 3 GB of memory (1x1GB & 1x2GB), the way in which he indulged.

This configuration really makes the relative system slow lately.

    Peter

    Hi, Peter:

There are several variations of the P6020.

    http://h10025.www1.HP.com/ewfrf/wc/pfinder?cc=us & DLC = in & LC = on & os = 228 & sw_lang = & Tool = & query = P6020

I think they all have the same specifications which indicate the maximum memory you can install in the PC is 2 x 2 GB memory (4 GB).

Before you "sign on the dotted line," to buy Windows 8, go ahead and start the download and it will first run an Upgrade Advisor to check your PC and report incompatibilities.

Your PC is more than likely won't be supported by HP with windows 8 drivers. My main concern would be the video card, do not have drivers available.

    Apple says the following:

    General requirements

    • OS X 10.6.8 or later version
    • 2 GB memory
    • 8.8 GB of available storage

For best performance, I would say not less 4 GB and preferably 8 GB or more.

Your i5 is well able to support properly.

    Hi Richard hartwell,.

Could you tell what antivirus software you have installed on your Windows XP machine?

The problem occurs because of a software antivirus installed on your Windows XP computer.

See article Knowledge Base MicrosoftAntivirus software may Cause Event ID 2011 for a likely solution, specifying a value of IRPStackSize 15 on the Windows XP computer.

As a test, you can consider disabling the security software on your Windows 7 machine as well.

  • Dell Dimension 8200 Memory Upgrade after upgrade the processor

    Hello

I have a Dell Dimension 8200 (shipping date is 01/05/2002) which came with a FSB of 400. I've recently updated the its origianl 1.8 GHz a 2.4 GHz processor.  I understand that the 8200 with a FSB of 400 can use 800-40ns or 800-45ns memory sticks (I think that mine came with 800-45).  I intend to upgrade memory 1 GB to 4 X 512 (2GB), I installed (4 X 256).  My question is when I went to buy the 4 X 512 memory, said the pub, it could be used in a 8200 with a 2.1 GHz CPU or less.  I have a 2.4 GHz chip. Is that going to be a problem?

    Rbatleman,

Great question!  When the Dimension 8200 was released the processor speed max was 2.1 ghz (probably why the memory you were viewing had this label).   We have updated later to the processor 2.4 ghz when it was available.  The two units came with the PC800-45 (400 mhz) memory, you should run into any problems with this memory.  Keep in mind the system supports only the RIMM modules that contain devices memory of 4, 8 or 16.  I hope this helps!

  • 2450 PE does not start after the memory upgrade attempt

    Hello

I have a Dell PE 2450, which is an older system, but has been working well and has 4x256MB DIMM in there and the last BIOS A09.  I tried to replace the DIMM A slot with a stick of 512 MB, and at switching on, a message appears indicating the amount of system memory has changed, followed by messages of typical POST on versions of firmware, and "Two-processor 866 MHz...", but then the system just sits there.

The subsequent reboot by pressing F2 is not get into Setup or F10 penetrates me in utility Mode despite repeated attempts to press F2 all few seconds, I put the original memory back deleted, hard drives, tried to start on a diskette, etc.. I've tried unplugging, etc as well.  NVRAM would somehow corrupted?  Is it possible to reset?

  • HP Compaq 6000 Pro SFF: HP Compaq 6000 Pro Compact (SFF) - memory upgrade problems

    < <! UPGRADE MEMORY SHOULDN'T BE COMPLICATED! > >

Chassis: HP Compaq 6000 Pro Compact

Processor: Intel Core 2 Duo @3. 00 GHz

    RAM: 2 x 1 GB

    OS: Windows 7 Pro 64-bit

I can add more technical info on request.

Recently saved this PC of my friend tries to throw it. Everything is fine with the PC. It works perfectly and there is no material visible failure wihtin the PC either. He just bought a new and had no need for this one.

Before turn me this into a House mutli-purpose server, I decided to upgrade the RAM.

So I did some research and found this page: http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c01883661

DDR3 240-pin DIMM 1333 MHz non - ECC, Max 4 GB per DIMM slot, Total Max 16 GB module.

I went and bought RAM Corsair. Link to the product: http://www.corsair.com/en-us/cmv4gx3m1a1333c9

I decided to get 2x4gb and upgrade later if I felt the need.

I was happy to install in the PC. one in DIMM 1 slot and the other in the DIMM 2 slot.

    BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP BEEP!

I thought that maybe the slots are wrong, maybe they have to odd numbers then numbers.

So I changed the RAM of DIMM 2 DIMM 3.

    Once again, the annoying ringtone.

I even tried leaving just the 4 GB DIMM 1 and tried to start the PC, but nothing helped.

I tried a lot of different combinations with the end result is 5 annoying beeps.

After that I thought that maybe, just maybe, an update of the BIOS can change things.

So I installed Windows 7 (I can't stand Windows. Arch Linux FTW) and performing a BIOS update.

I then installed the new RAM again. Yes... frickin 5 beeps AGAIN.

I am extremely disappointed at this point. I spent already $ 70 on a computer with free access.

I read the forums here, but I couldn't find a thread with a solution for me.

Is there anyone on this forum who could lend me a helping hand?

Any information would be gladly appreciated.

PS Please report any stupid error, I did. Stick and stones could not curb my bones.

  • Dell PowerEdge T610 (memory upgrade)

I bought Dell 16 GB certified replacement Memory Module for select Dell - 2Rx4 1333 MHz RDIMMS LV systems

Currently, I have 8 GB of RAM (1 GB on every slot machines). After I installed this new memory and restart the server, it shows invalid memory configuration. So, I changed the memory setting in BIOS 'Advanced ECC' to 'optimize memory '. But it detects more than my current speed of the memory is 8 GB. Is there something wrong with the configuration of the memory? I tried to re - establish the new RAM.

    Help, please. Thank you.

    Hello.

Your memory configuration is not valid because the channel memory CH0, is not balanced with channels CH1 & CH2. Refer to the schematic illustration below:

In order to balance the memory on these channels, we should have memory DIMM in:

A1, A2 & A3 = B1, B2 & B3 in addition also A4, A5 & A6 is B4, B5 & B6. That's why CH0, CH1 & CH2 memory modules must be identical for the performance and optimal memory configuration. Depending on the upgrade amount of memory you are looking for, you can buy 1 more 16 GB DIMMS and then fill in slots A1 B1 & offer a total capacity of 32 GB. This will provide more flexibility for future memory upgrade

Let me know if you have any other questions.
