The model deployment - VM related to the data store model

I have templates create in a data store, call datastor0 on a San in LUN0. I'm deployment of virtual machines in datastore1 in LUN1. The problem:

  • After the deployment of a virtual machine at datastore1, the summary of VM page datastore0 and datastore1 in the 'resources' tab.
  • If I go to view the data warehouse, the virtual computers tab, I can see that the VM listed in datastore0 and datastore1.
  • If I browse the data warehouses, the computer virtual folder is located in datastore1.
  • I'm not change hardware or anything else during or after deployment.

I'm guessing there is a file in the model with information about the deployed virtual computer that it throws out. I don't see the problem when the dpeloying to datastore0, but the problem could still be there, with the virtual machine is somehow related to the model.

I know that I have een that high in the past in other threads, but I think as those relating to make changes during the deployment. I'm not familiar with the editing of the VM reviewing files, it's been long that I had, so any ideas on the problem, what are the files that I should look through diagnosis and how I finished with this in the first place?

The environment is:

vCenter 4.1 Build 491557

ESXi 4.1 Build 502767

I opened a case with the help, but I won't hear from them before some time tomorrow and jump to get these deployed tonight.

Thank you

You happen to have the CD-ROM pointed an ISO on datastore0? Can you post the contents of the. VMX file for the virtual machine you just deployed?

    I check the datasotre and no doubt that the "length of the string' are '0' (I consolidate them) and no matter what clone a link on that particulat data store. When I log on to the server and check the data store, I see more than 50 files in 6VMs here and only in LM.

    Upon consolidation, I found that the LM has lost contact to esxhost very often, I have to manually restart the agent to get the connection works, is - what the cause of reason left old metadata in the esxhost and do not delete not come out correctly?

    The United Nations use forder delete directly in the vCenter?

    Yes.  Cut out the documentation:

    Garbage collection is automatic detection and release images that are no longer in use. Lab Manager does not immediately remove the files associated with a virtual machine.

    Lab Manager stores the virtual machine files in a tree of related related clones. Each pass of the garbage collector involves an attempt to delete the nodes that have no dependencies. Several passes over time may be required to free space associated with a virtual machine.

    I don't know why the 1.8 to vmfs volume is not list anywhere (which does not appear in the list of file system of storage of esxcli also). Do you have any before partition created manually. If you think that if there is no data in this 1.8 to vmfs partition you can remove it by using the partedutil command and then use this free space to extend the existing 3.8 to. But do not forget before you delete the partitiaon

  • Migration of virtual machines from a data store, and then delete the data store?

    Hello

    I have a future deployment this month and my Director wants to build a new RAID 6 array, create a store of data with the new table and then move all the VMS to the newly created data store.

    Then he asked me to take the old data store and remove it and the available space between the deleted data store and other stores of data in our shared environment. The question is when the new raid is created and vm has migrated to the new data store, which is the best way to remove the data store empty and make sure that the space available for other data stores? Any help would be appreciated...

    Greg ~.

    If all controls are met, you can go ahead and take it apart without any problem.

    I have re-iterate below checks:

    -No virtual machine is in the data store

    -The data store is not part of the cluster data store

    -The data store is not managed by the DRS storage

    -IGCS is disabled for this data store

    -The data store is not used for vSphere HA heartbeat.

    Especially highlighted 2 controls. Please note that SIOC can be enabled on the data without SDR photo store

  • The data store size is smaller than the virtual disk

    Just deploy a new installation of ESXI 4.1 rev3 on a new Dell PE R520 server with 4 disks 1 GB configured in a single Bay RAID5.  When I connect with vSphere and go to Configuration > it shows storage data store being just 740 GB.  However when I go to storage adapters and select the vmhba it shows the complete 2.73 CT of the RAID array that I need to use.  Nowhere I chose Go 740 for the size of the data store, so I don't know how it has been brought to this size.  If I try to delete and re-create 740 GB is the maximum I can create.

    What I am doing wrong and how do I create a data store that uses all 2.73 CT?  Screenshots are attached.

    Thanks in advance,

    Ben

    4 ESXi does not support LUNS > 2 TB.  Any increase on a multiple of 2 TB, it's what you'll see (e.g. 2.73 TB - 2 TB =.73 to ~ = 740 GB you see).

    But the real question is why you install version 3 year of the hypervisor?

  • Combining the VM with files in the data store

    I apologize for the very basic question.

    I have a few ESXi servers and I need to associate each VM with the related directory inside the data store and each direxctory within the data with the associated directory store.

    With the command:

    SE connect-VIServer-Server 192.168.1.1 - user root - < password >

    I connect with the server.

    With the command

    Get - vm

    I get a list of all VM with the State and the amount of memory, the number of vCPU

    • How can I get path for each computer listed virtual, to the related .vmx file?
    • How to browse the data store, the list of the .vmx file and for each .vmx file, get the name of the associated virtual machine?
    • What manual download to find the emanations of the arguments of the command get-vm and qualifying?

    Concerning

    Marius

    The Get - VM by default displays a selection of properties.

    You can ask all the properties

    Get - VM | Select *.

    or some specific

    Get - VM | Select name, Description

    You can even access the real object of the SDK VirtualMachine

    Get - VM | Select Name,@{N="VMX; E={$_. Extensiondata.Config.Files.VmPathName}}

    PowerCLI comes with a data store provider.

    It is documented in the vSphere PowerCLI Admin Guide, which is installed with PowerCLI.

    With the provider, you can list the files .vmx on data warehouses.

    To find the name of the corresponding client, you will need to retrieve the DisplayName of the .vmx file field.

  • Block size is too small - reformat the data store or create files VMDk 2?

    Hello

    I'm new to VMware and so far I absolutely love everything about her!  Well, I was not too happy when I realized that I can't create more than 256 GB a drive without reformatting the VMFS datastore.   Apparently, I accepted the block size of 1 MB by default during the installation...   I now need to configure a file server with about 500 GB of storage.  The data store with a larger block size (4 MB would be fine for me) reformatting is easy enough?  I am currently working on the first host ESXi 4.1 and will move to set up 2 more hosts in the coming weeks.  I read somewhere on the forum that ESXi 4.0 doesn't let you change the block size by default of 1 MB - is this true or relevant to 4.1?

    Currently, I have only 2 small VMs on that host, and these can be easily saved and put offline for a few hours, if necessary.  When starting the server, I created a single RAID array that holds ESXi and all virtual machines - does that mean that I have to reinstall ESXi in order to increase the size of the block?

    An alternative that I can get to is to simply create 2 255 GB VMDK each and load distribution of storage in the guest operating system (Win 2008).   Performance wise, is a disc more great and better (or worse) than the two smaller disks?

    On a related note, what should I choose for the "Independent" option when you add a new virtual disk?  Default is disabled (not independent).

    Your thoughts, focus and expertise are welcome and will be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks in advance,

    Dothan

    Dothan,

    You should power (after the virtual machine backup) remove the current data store and create a new one with the new block size. I did not have this on ESXi 4.1 again, however, he worked on ESXi 4.0.

    The maximum size of VMDK. If you want ot be able to take pictures, make sure you subtract twice the size of block in GB of the documented maximum size.

    Block size 1 MB--> 254 GB (= 256 GB, 2 GB)

    Block size of 2 MB--> 508 GB (= 512 GB - 4 GB)

    Size of block 4 MB--> GB 1 016 (= 1 024 GB - 8 GB)

    Block size of 8 MB--> GB 2 032 (= 2 048 GB to 16 GB)

    André

    EDIT: Just the KB for the maximum sizes. http://KB.VMware.com/kb/1012384

  • Empty folders "masters" and "clones" on the data store

    Clean an old data store, so I can get back to the place of SAN, I migrated all the models and virtual computers out of the data store (and deleted empty folders that leaves behind migration.  (Grrr...).  There are two empty folders left on this data store, called "clones" and "masters".  Nobody here knows how they got there, but they look like type system.  Anyone know if they are system files that may be moved or may be deleted?  (Screen attached)

    no system records, if they are empty it is safe to delete.

  • How to associate the data store of the target for the newly created using the API Interface

    How to create a new Interface under project, need to associate the data store target for mappings for the interface by using APIs "."

    Able to get the associated interface created temporary data store. You need to associate a new database model. How to do this using the API

    My code is,

    String pCode = "DEVELOPMENT";
    Context OdiContext = (mgr.getFinder (OdiContext.class)) .findByCode (pCode) (IOdiContextFinder);
    System.out.println (Context.getLastDate ());

    OdiInterface pInterface = new OdiInterface ("toDeleted_Interface", pFolder, context);
    pFolder.addInterface (pInterface);

    The list of ds < DataSet > = pInterface.getDataSets ();
    < DataSet > iterator itr = ds.iterator ();
    DataSet ds_nxt = itr.next ();

    PAlias string = "HRA_TMPL_DEFNS_TL";
    pOrder int = 0;
    OdiModel pModel = (mgr.getFinder (OdiModel.class)) .findByCode ("FILE_PM_MODEL") (IOdiModelFinder);
    String pName = "HRA_TMPL_DEFNS_TL";
    OdiDataStore pUnderlyingOdiDataStore = new OdiDataStore (pModel, pName);
    SourceDataStore pSourceDataStore = new SourceDataStore (ds_nxt, false, pAlias, pOrder, pUnderlyingOdiDataStore);
    ds_nxt.addSourceDataStore (pSourceDataStore);

    TargetDataStore tdata = pInterface.getTargetDataStore ();

  • Free space in the data store is lower we shouldn't

    Hello

    I'm under VMware ESXi on HP Proliant DL380 G5 server - the data store has a global capacity of 678 GB, with now 34 GB free. I have 5 VMs running:

    reader1/lecteur2

    (1) Win2k3: 50 / 100

    (3) Win2k3: 50 / 50

    (1) Windows XP: 10

    Oh - and the two models, one for the server (50) and a XP (10)

    Yesterday, I created a couple of clones of the XP, 1 with Vmkfstools - i and the other with vConverter - especially for the practice, but they are only 10 GB. Before my creations, free space read about 115 GB - then she got at the moment, I noticed 34GB. I deleted the two new virtual machines thinking I came home back from space, but no dice. Math is not my best subject, but this does not seem to add up. Do something wrong, I missed something?

    Is it possible to reclaim that space? Before I thought to check with you guys, it dawned on me that I could stop all VMs and restart the host, but if there is another way, I want to know it.

    Linda

    Browse the data store - go to the "Home" view - inventory - data warehouses, click a data store, and then select Browse.

    Look in the subdirectory for each virtual computer and determine that seem abnormal large size files and total size of all files that exceed the size of the virtual disks assigned to the virtual machine.  If you specify then what are the names of the files a plan for how to get rid of them.

  • How to retrieve the path of the data store

    I am writing a perl script using the API SOAP Labmanager to deploy several configs in Labmanger. After the deployment of the Config/VM, I want to interact with the virtual machines in each config file. To do this, I use the Perl API of VIX. My problem is that I need to know the path of the data of each virtual machine store as soon as it is deployed so that the VIX commands can be run on it.

    The script is multi-threaded. Each thread represents a configuration with a virtual machine.

    I know how to list all the warehouses of data for all registered virtual machines. The name of the virtual machine is not unique, so I can't analyze this list for this. Does anyone know how reliable to get the path of the data for a VM store knowing ConfigID/MachineID or MachineId combo? Ideal, I would be able to sometype of search the ID that will allow to obtain the path of the data store.

    I'm open to VI Toolkit, VIX, or anything else out there that will allow me to get this info (preferably using Perl).

    Thank you.

    I think that's maybe what you are looking for:

    Method LabManagerInternal.GetConsoleAccessInfo

    (public) MKSConsoleInfo GetConsoleAccessInfo

    machineId int

    );

    Parameters

    machineId

    It returns a type of object called MKSConsoleInfo that contains a VmxLocation value. When I tried through soapUI he gave me a valid path to the file in vmx to the machine_id that I went there
