  Have you checked the settings in Control Panel-> mouse control?
  There should be an option and some touchpad properties that could be changed.

  Dell Dimension E520 my friend has xp on it. He got the blue screen on startup. I was able to run chkdsk/r from the recovery console and got rid of the blue screen.   Have you tried pressing the right and left of the touchpad corners? Most of the models without physical buttons have this function.

  The only thing I found that worked the first time, every time (so far) is simply stop and UNPLUG your computer (for laptops... Disconnect the battery as well a few moments).

  With the machine on, the motherboard may still have activity.   This is what needs to be reset.

  Remove power, reboot and see if the mouse started working as you go through the screen "windows".

  Then check if the left and right click touchpad would work again.

  We have a Toshiba Satellite Pro T130-15F which presents a strange problem when any user logs on to the laptop and they try and use the left button of the mouse on the laptop it works like the right mouse button, if the laptop is not a left mouse button to work as a left and right work as right button.

  I tried to rebuild the laptop several times I tried also to restore the bios default settings, I would be very grateful if anyone has any ideas on this.
