The names of strange folder on my data drive (e :))

Strange file names

I have 3 physical disks on my system. C what you would think that it is. D is dedicated to iTunes. E is a general data drive. I am running Win 7 Home. Lately, I see the folders on drive E only with strange names such as: 9f13dc58d6bd3991eacd70900721b273.  There are a lot of these files. What is happening here and what is the remedy?

Hi biged46us,

The file names you mention are leftovers of Windows Updates. It is not a malware, and that are not harmful to the computer.

  • How can I change the name of a folder of Bookmarks Toolbar?

I want to change the name of a folder in my Bookmarks Toolbar. I tried opening the "show all bookmarks", and then by clicking on the bookmarks and then toolbar by clicking once on the current name with the hope it would allow me to change it. But it did not work.

You must open the Favorites bar folder in the left pane of the library.

You can then select (highlight) that folder in the right pane and change the name in the details at the bottom of the right pane pane.

  • Create a new folder or change the name of a folder on the desktop does not display until I use the refresh command

After changing the name of a folder or a file on the desktop or by creating a new folder (and then hit enter), the folder or the text file doesn't change - until I use the Refresh command. Then, the text shows correctly and the movements of folder or a file in a place open to the top left of the screen. Before using "Refresh" the folder or the file will not open. When I save a file on the desktop is not visible until the 'Refresh' is used. Sometimes, but not always the same behavior occurs in other folders as well.  I use Win XP SP3. Can someone please shed some light on this?

  • How can I avoid losing image changes I've already done when changing the name of a folder?

How can I avoid losing image changes I've already done when changing the name of a folder? Whenever I have change a folder name (after having published images), Lightroom "updates" the images in this folder and any changes I've made have disappeared!

    Thanks for the update.

    This isn't the correct workflow.

When you rename a folder outside of Lightroom, it causes the link between this issue and Lightroom to be broken and images will be missed in the Lightroom Catalog

and if you re-import them same images after that, it will import the original images and not the changes

Lightroom does not store the original images it contains. It works on the previews and the changes you make are stored only in Lightroom.

So, you have to rename or move this folder in Lightroom instead of doing outside so that you do not lose your changes.

To rename a folder, select the folder name in the library module > right click / Control click and select Rename folder.

  • Change the name of files and folders in data warehouses

Is it safe while a virtual machine is running to change the name of the VMDK files and folders in a data store?

I discovered that a VMS VMDK files have a different name for the virtual machine itself, then someone changed the name of the virtual machine after you have created the records

I had to do it a few times, will try to document the process that I follow.  If you have many warehouses of data, then make a note of what data store, the machine is in.  The next step is to unregister the virtual machine from vCenter / ESXi

Then, you need to enable SSH on your ESXi host

Use Putty or something similar for you connect to the ESXi host

Run the following commands (in italics)

cd vmfs/volumes / that is, if the data store that contains the virtual computer is named datastore1 then you would run cd/vmfs/volumes/datastore1

Then run ls to verify that the virtual machine file is here

Rename the folder by using mv

Change to the folder with cd

Rename the nvram, vmsd, vmx and running again is to say the mv

    MV oldname.nvram newname.nvram

    MV oldname.vmsd newname.vmsd

    MV oldname.vmx newname.vmx

    MV 1234.hlog - oldname newname - 1234.hlog

Rename the vmdk with vmkfstools EI oldname.vmdk newname.vmdk

Edit the vmx with vi newname.vmx

Replace references to oldname to newname in this file

Register the virtual machine with the ESXi server and it should be OK

  • How can I search the name of a folder of bookmarks?

I can find the name of a bookmarks folder that I created back to the top of my favorites, and the searches the .json and then looking for the parents of the entry I find, but it's very tedious. There is an extension that claims to do this research named "Awesome search Extension", but I can't understand how to use it.

It is such a common need that I think that Mozilla would add this feature to Firefox itself.

Shamefully, it does not seem to be any decent Firefox solution/add on to these very simple features. It is indeed annoying, because I just recently migrated from Opera to Firefox after 10 years to use Opera, mainly because its decently developed bookmarks UI Manager. In the opera, the bookmarks (consisting of my thousands of bookmarks) directory tree is reduced in real-time by typing the letters one by one in the search box. At the same time, all parent folders open in the tree. And of course, the entries are not only from the beginning of a Word, but also everywhere where there is the substring. In addition, the search also matches folder names, not only of the names of bookmarks...

  • Is it possible to sort the items in a folder by Type, Date, etc is available in Windows XP

I am trying to sort my photos by file type and name. This does not seem possible. Why would they not incorporate a feature available in XP that was very helpful?

It works the same as XP.  Do it how you used to.  Put it in the Details view, and then click the file Type column to sort by there.  If you do not see the Type column, right-click a column header and select it.

There is no difference in him and XP, it works exactly the same.
  • Need to change the name of the administrator under the folder of the user account

I just got a new HP laptop with Windows Vista 64 SP1. My friend who got the laptop I use a nickname that I hate it when he set up the computer for which it was not supposed to do in the first place. I went to the section control panel user accounts control and changed the name of the administrator account. I have only the administrator account on my computer with the guest account. That part worked.

My problem is that, under C:/Users / (username), it still shows that hated nickname. I want to change the name of this folder, but cannot understand how or if it's possible. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance

As you have discovered, you cannot change a user account by simply changing the name. That will be a change cosmetic only and none of the files/folders real profile will be changed. Follow the instructions below to fix things to your liking and to implement correctly under Vista user accounts.

    1. create the new user account (named as desired) as a * standard * (not administrator) account and at least one additional account with administrative privileges. Call the extra account 'CompAdmin', 'Tech' or similar.

    2. Enter the new user account once if the profile files are created, and then disconnect and then connect to CompAdmin.

    3. go in Control Panel > system > advanced > user profile > settings

    4. you will see where you can copy user accounts. Copy the misnamed old account to the new name correctly there. Use her browse to select your new account (C:\Users\newaccount). If you don't want to copy all the settings, and then instead simply navigate using the old user, music Explorer Windows Documents, etc. and copy the data to the new user folders.

    5. connect to your new correctly named user account. When you are sure to have what you need, you can delete the misnamed control panel user account > accounts to users if you wish.

General information about configuring users in Vista:

You absolutely don't want to have only one user account. As XP and all the other modern operating systems, Vista is an OS multi-user with system built-in accounts such as administrator, by default, all users and guest. These accounts should be left alone because they are part of the structure of the operating system.

In particular, you do not want one account user with administrative privileges on Vista because the administrator account integrated (normally only used in emergencies) is disabled by default. If you use as an administrator for your daily work, and this account is corrupt, things will be difficult. It is not impossible to activate the built-in administrator to rescue things, but it will take third-party tools and work outside the operating system.

The user account that is for your daily work must be a Standard user, with the extra administrative user (call it something like 'CompAdmin' or 'Tech' or similar) only it for elevation purposes. If your normal user account is an administrator, having created "CompAdmin", connect to it and change your normal user account Standard. Then log on to your regular account.

If you want to go directly to the desktop and ignore the Welcome screen with the icons of the user accounts, you can do this:

Start Orb > Search box > type: netplwiz [Enter]
Click continue (or provide an administrator password) when you are prompted by UAC

Uncheck "users must enter a user name and password to use this computer". Select a user account to connect automatically by clicking on the account you want to highlight and press OK. Enter the password for this user account (when it exists) when you are prompted. Leave blank if there is no password (null).

  • How can I transfer photos from the "iPhoto" to 'Photos' without losing info "date of creation"?

I decided to transfer all the remaining photos, I have always in an old iPhoto Library in pictures. I was able to 'rebuild' the library within the new version of iPhoto (which still exists on my Mac) and then export all the photos in a folder on a hard drive. However, when I then imported in Photos, they all got a new 'creation date' the exact moment where I imported the - missing information about when they were shot. Is there anything I can do to keep this information in Photos? The problem is that I can't even sort the pictures in "Photos" - under the "Sort" in the "View" menu option, there is only one, gray, option: 'Keep sorted by oldest first' if I look 'Photos' or 'Album' 'All the Photos' in the sidebar. Why are there no more options? (For example, sort by title?) Why is "Photos" so clumsy and unwieldy and paradoxical? Why does he use the same generic name ("Photos") for the app and the real thing, he manages a link in the sidebar? What happened to the Mac user interface intuitive but customizable? Augggghhhh!

TO migrate from keep everything that you migrate the iPhoto for pictures library by dragging the Photos icon in the dock

If you export you create them new files with metadata selected although the date of the photos should stay in the fields of EXIF/IPTC - assistance to export from iPHoto see - export to iPhoto

If the metadata is not correct after exporting it's user error - and if you perform the migration instead of export and import, nothing will change-- How Photos handles content and metadata for iPhoto and Aperture - Apple Support

What about sorting in the Photos - all the photos of the user can be sorted by ascending or descending date or by title - see Photos (years/collections/moments) is always sorted by date of the photo with the oldest first and pictures is always sorted by date added

  • Is there a way to change the names of folders in waiting lists without changing the name of the original file?

    Hello

I was curious to know if there was a way I could change the name of a folder on my list of added items leaving the name of the original file untouched. I work in an accounting firm that shares all of our records on a single server, and we can't rename an any of them like all the world has its own shortcuts and what not on their individual computers. For example, some of our files are separated into folders by file type, exercises and billing periods, like this:

    Billing applications

    EXERCISE 14-15

    Period 1

    Digitized invoice copies

    EXERCISE 14-15

    Period 1

If I have two folders period 1 has performed the fallen on my desk, they are both the same labeled, but I would like to I know not what specific folder, I work in rename them. Is there a way I can rename the folder on my list of items added on my desktop without changing the name of the file in its original location? I know that I can hover over the name of the folder to get the exact location of the file, but when I work quickly, it becomes a bit cumbersome to do this for every file, especially when I need to have several folders (at least 10) pinned.

    Thank you!

    Hello

You can create the path of the shortcut for them and name it as you want.
