    You have disk problems as the CD/DVD is actually 4 discs in 1 case (CD & DVD burn
    and CD and DVD read). So it is not unusual for 1 or 2 operational so that other parts
    do it right.

    A CD/DVD cleaner might help.

    Try to re-create the hosts file.

    Open Notepad as administrator (click right on the Notepad icon or shortcut and click Run as admin) and type the following information in it:

    127.0.0.1 localhost

    : 1 localhost

    The '1' in the '127.0.0.1' must be in the first column of the line and there must be at least one space between "127.0.0.1" and "localhost". In the second line, there must be at least one space between ": 1" and "localhost".

    Save the file with name "hosts" in the C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc folder.

    (1) make sure that your hardware acceleration is safe enough. I got the upgrade down my hardware acceleration several times already.

    (2) sounds like the new drivers for your NIC cards took over and VMware is basically a new card NETWORK for you. Follow these steps to disable it:

    (a) open a command prompt

    (b) type (without quotes): 'set devmgr_show_nonpresent_devices = 1' and press ENTER.

    (c) type (without the quotes): "start devmgmt.msc"

    Thanks cor - el for your answer, I didn't check out safe, but it seems to be a problem with zonealarm and virtualization of the browser I fixed it by that.

       1.  switch off browser virtualisation in zonealarm.
   2. Load firefox.
   3. Switch on browser virtualisation in zonealarm
   4. Unload firefox.
   5. Load firefox.

    and it now works OK, I don't think it is related to virtual data that I had previously turned off a few times before.

    As far as I know the S-video port on television must be enabled. If you have the same problem with most of the other laptops it's obviously this problem is TV and not PC.

    Check the TV settings and make sure that the correct port is enabled.
