• Remote access? 'other' user appears in the Excel file

  My husband uses Excel 2008 for Mac on his mini. Today, it has created a new Excel file, and when he went to save him, he did not allow him to do so. After I told him to try to "Get Info", he saw that there was another user listed as having access to 'wheel' (FIRST HMMMM?). None of us use this name. The permissions are set to read and write.

  I could, even if I don't have to open the lock, allowing to delete this user and change the permissions of the "Everybody". Always without having to open the lock.

  I open the lock using his password, made another change, saved and closed the file.

  I went in its security and confidentiality and found that the Firewall was turned off. I turned who, without having to open the lock. (DON'T know WHY I didn't have to open the lock.-SECOND HMMMM?)

  So, I changed his password, all closed and restarted the computer.

  No more 'wheel' on what it is, yet. The permissions are correct so far.

  I saw a tutorial online on how to change the icons of any file (text, folder, programs)
  In addition to the normal way to do it:

  The normal route was right - click folder, text, program or folder etc-> choose Properties > then choose Change icon

  The new way that I learned how to do that was - go to folder options in the control panel > choose the 'file types' tab > find folder icon, click on it > choose Advanced Options > then choose Change icon.

  The reason for me wanting to do other then the normal way is because I would like to point out that all RECORDS USE DIFFERENT TYPE of ICON RATHER THEN DEFAULT UGLY OF THAT folder BROWN ICON that windows XP USES

• File is present, but does not appear in the search

  I have occasionally to store a pdf file, I received as an attachment to e-mail and discover that the file does not appear in a search, even if it is in the directory, and I have no problem opening it. I can solve the problem by renaming the file, and then rename it again, back to what it was originally.

  I decided that the file name does not begin with special characters, and the status bits seem normal. But I have two files, using the same naming format, and one of them shows up in a search, the other is not the case.

  If someone can explain to me what is happening here, I can probably came up with a remedy on mine. I'm just confused as to what is the cause.

  I suggest to change the Indexing Options:

  Steps to follow:

  a. display folder that you have hidden.

  b. open the start menu.

  (c) in the search bar, type "Indexing Options". Click on "Indexing Options".

  d. click on 'change '.

  e. use the 'Indexed locations' window to access the location of the folder that you want to hide, and clear the check box. Click on 'OK '.

  f. close "Indexing Options".

  g. re - hide the folder.

  h. disabled folder will not be displayed on the search function.

  NOTE: To do this, the files you want to hide should be in a separate folder, you are hiding the whole folder.

  IM on windows server 2008, a co-worker wanted to make a file readable only by him so we went in the properties of the folder, Security tab and messed with permissions, denied access to all the world, but after clicking ok the file disappears. We then log on our administrator account and the file is still there, but an error message appears showing "Backup of the JackHuff file refers to a location that is unavailable." Goes on to say that it could be on this drive or been displaced, but we know that this is not the case. My question is, are there ways to get permissions back to normal so that we can at least get the data as much as the major part was important for our company?

  I can't reproduce this. The layer as you try to duplicate a smart object and there a displacement map? Looks like you might need to reset your preferences.

  I answered your question: there is nothing you can do in InDesign. You need to ask in the Acrobat forum I linked.

• Fonts distorted when the file compiled by a user, but not other users

  Has anyone else seen elsewhere?

  We have several users of the Cap 4. We all use the same template file to create new projects, so we have all the same settings. When a person compiles his record, however, distorted fonts are displayed.

  

  But if everyone opens his file and compiles, the fonts appear normal in the output.

  

  I would put this down to a problem with his machine, but we were all new machines this week and she still has this problem.

  You don't say what version is used. I know that things change a bit with version 5, so I don't know if what I say here still applies.

  I remember a problem in Windows XP with Captivate 4 or an earlier version. What happens is what you end up with depends somewhat on the windows settings in the time of the things used are compiled.

  Apparently when Captivate creates the output files the clarity of text captions is dependent on a parameter configured for Microsoft Windows on the PC of creation. More precisely a parameter called font smoothing.

  To verify or change this setting:

  1. Click on Start > run...
  2. Type desk.cpl in the Run dialog box, and then press enter.
  3. Click the appearance tab.
  4. Click the effects... button.

  Two suggestions:

  Solution of the authorization in function of

  • Ensure that all students have access only "limited user" to the computer.
  • Set the permission for the folder in which the files are located on 'Read only' for administrator users.

  • This method fails if you have students able to crack the password for the built-in Administrator account (or the password to your account "computer administrator").

  The computer freeze

  • Install and use an application like Deep Freezeconfiguration control.  This restores the computer to a known state whenever it is restarted.
  • Of course, this won't help if A student deletes the file and student B looking for him until the computer is restarted.

  Was working before, but have only allowed a number of updates to Windows that had been blocked for a while.

  For example. Type 'safe' in the search box. It finds files and directories with 'security' in the title, but not the files and directories that I can see are there with 'safe' in the title.

  When I search using the "safe * ' it seems to do exactly the same thing as"safe ".  It does not show only files beginning with 'safe'

  My suggestion was not ' safe * ' but ' name of the file: ~ safe * "(without the quotes).
