The question whether to install Wins 2012 R2 before installing VMware vSphere Hypervisor 5.5?

I'm new with VMware.  I have a DELL T420 server without an operating system in it.  I have a question, this first step, I need to install Windows 2012 R2 Datacenter to my server DELL T420, then the next step I will download the upgrade to VMware vsphere Hypervisor 5.5 2, is that correct?   I thank in advance for your advice.

1. you must first download ESXi (hypervisor) and install it on your server.

: Refer:vSphere 5.5 - How to install and configure VMware ESXi 5.5 - YouTube

2. once the ESXi installation is successful, you can create a VM and then install windows 2012 R2 in this virtual machine as GOS.

  • Problem with the video for "VMware vSphere Hypervisor - install and configure.

    Hello

    In this page: https://my.vmware.com/group/vmware/evalcenter?lp=default & p = free-esxi5

When you click on the "Installation and configuration" tab, we have access to videos for vSphere Hypervisor.

But at the moment, none of the video can be shown.  I tried this in my computer at home as well as my company computer and none works.

Someone who works for VMware please check this problem.

    Thank you

OK, I just found what was "wrong".  These videos are "optimized" for Internet Explorer!   Yes, I tried on Firefox and Chrome on XP Pro and Win7, nothing worked.  Then after reading your message, I thought ' what happens if I try that? "  ... and indeed, the videos are displayed inside, I.e. I got suddenly a bad feeling, like I was back at the beginning of the 21st century!

Come on!  Who would still do 'optimized' only website to know today?   I'm sure they will not be displayed on my Tablet either.

I found these videos on YouTube:

I think they are the same videos (but the quality is really bad... 360 p.: geez!).  Could someone confirm that they are indeed the same as those in vmware.com?  THX

PS: Oh, on the section "Help", I found it at help | United States but I've seen no paragraph telling me how to report a problem on the website.

    Yes you can.

Do not forget to allow the ESXi with the serial number you already have (otherwise you cannot manage their vCenter).

  • How to connect to VMware VSphere Hypervisor via the internet

    Hello

I'll set up a server with VMware Vsphere Hypervisor and want to connect to the server via Internet, so not in my local network. If it can, what are the ports I need to open to you connect to the server somewhere else? And if I open this ports can I just connect to the server using my external IP, or what I have to configure something?

    Welcome to the community.

    First open it.

The ICMP opened between the source and destination. If there is a communication.

    They then treat access esxi.

Port 443 for vsphere client connection esxi.

902 port to access the virtual machine console

port 22 for esxi PuTTY access.

  • How to install Dell OMSA on a free host VMware or VMware vSphere Hypervisor comments?

We are virtualizing our 2012 R2 Windows Server and you have a Dell PowerEdge T310 server. We have installed vSphere hypervisor free version 5.5 on the physical server.

Does anyone know how to install the Dell OMSA? I heard that it will not work if it is installed on the Windows Server R2 2012 host because of the virtualization layer.

I read a few posts on how it's done, but I can't always get my head around it. I think I've also seen people install a VIB on the hypervisor vSphere itself?

Can you please describe the General steps or point me in the right direction on how to run the OMSA? The Dell PowerEdge server has a RAID, and we must use OMSA to see a RAID controller unexpected sense errors if they are generated. We used to have a problem with consistency RAID and have had to start again before.

He also seems to be an OMSA plugin for vCenter, but I don't think we can use vCenter because it's the free version of vSphere hypervisor.

    Hello

There are a lot of articles and posts on how to install OMSA under VMware. If you encounter problems then please post an explanation of what you are having problems with. Here's a post I did on the subject. It has a link to a youtube video that includes step by step instructions:

He also seems to be an OMSA plugin for vCenter, but I don't think we can use vCenter because it's the free version of vSphere hypervisor.

Integration of OpenManage for VCenter requires always the OMSA agent must be installed on the hypervisor. Correct, it is not a free version of VCenter. No installation procedure who advises using VUM or VCenter should be ignored because you will not have access to these utilities.

    Clearly the Setup is broken.

So, my question is - is the installer deliberately broken (IE, no support for Debian) or is it a perl error code that needs fixing?

    Thank you

    Chris

As William, he will not be supported, but you can use the SDK Software VMware Perl quite easily on any platform of Perl (I did it with window as well).  I did specifically on Ubuntu and OS X over the years.

Install the requirements of the module as shown in "vSphere SDK Perl Source Code installation on Linux".  In the source package, copy the folder VMware vmware vsphere-cli-distrib/lib/VMware/sharing of archive download Perl Linux SDK to your path to Perl.

For required modules, you can use PPM, CPAN or apt get the packages.

I ran this way for years without any problem, but this obviously isn't an official support statement

You should be able to simply do not put a proxy during Setup.  It's there in case it is necessary to download the module dependencies.

  • The issue of the networking of VMWare vSphere Hypervisor (ESXi) 5.0

    Hi all

This is my first post here, so please be gentle!

Basically, I have a question on possible ways to install VMWare ESXi 5.0 on two machines that I put in a data center. The machines operate in the free version of ESXi, so some advanced features such as distributed switching are unfortunately out of the question.

Both machines have identical hardware with multiple network cards, but one is used to host services and the other is essentially used as a storage for backups. I have two uplinks to the data center switch and ideally want to be able to get the best out of them (i.e. bandwidth combined these two links are available on the main server, but with the second always have access to one of of the uplinks).

For example, the following would be appropriate?

    (1) connect an uplink directly on the first server and have the other uplink into a very basic layer 2 switch, which is connected to turn on both servers.

    (2) connect an uplink directly to each machine and have a crossover cable between the two machines which is connected to additional cards on the same vSwitch as the uplink on every machine.

Ideas a notice in this regard are very appreciated!

    Thank you

    Jon

    halewoodj wrote:

So with this, you suggest linking rising 'direct' must be connected to a different vSwitch to the '' crossover '' / shared uplink? that is, each machine has two 'public' vSwitches, probably to avoid the introduction of a loop in the topology?

OK, you'll have a vSwitch 'external' of the data center, and a "internal" which is the crossover, you will treat as different networks, you need to configure all virtual machines talk to each other on the internal network, although (it's 'boring management fees' section, where the VMs will have live data center access AND internal networks).

And no, I'm unlikely to be using 1 Gbps in the data center, but it seems stupid to have the second uplink to be sitting here, doing nothing when included in the agreement with the domain controller.

Yes, I still think that the best way to use it would be a dual WAN firewall, you can simplify installation greatly and you can get some pretty cheap for.

  • I can't install Vmware Vsphere on a new server with disk of 4.7 to Lun

    Hello.

Recently, I get a new Dell R710 server, this server have six discs with 1 TB each, I set up a Raid 5 with the 6 disc, now when I try to install ESX 4.1, I see the card controller with 4.7 TB of space, but I can't select it.

    vSphere 4.1 impose a 2 TB-512 b as LUN maximum limit.

You must break it up into smaller lun:s or install vSphere 5.1 instead.

  • Install vmware tools on the linux host offline

    Hello world

I run a Fedora 10 VM using vmware player 3.1.2 on a crowd of Ubuntu 10.04. I'm trying to install vmware tools, but my host doesn't have access to the internet.  I've seen a few posts on how to install vmware tools offline on a windows host (http://communities.vmware.com/thread/245195), but the advice given may not be valid for linux hosts.  I downloaded vmware-tools-linux - 8.4.4 - 301548.x86_64.component.tar of http://softwareupdate.vmware.com/cds/ but this tar file contains a .component file (not an .iso that post said).  My question is what I should do with the .component file to install vmware tools?

    Thanks in advance,

    Hi Jordaan,

  • VMWare vSphere v5.5 ESXi install errors

    Hello

I'm trying to install VMWare vSphere, ESXi v5.5 on a machine that I've used as a Windows 2008 Server. Pretty well spec'd (core i5, 8 GB, 3.5 TB of space etc.), but it's just a generic machine with a motherboard micro ATX ASUS and so on. I use an external USB DVD drive.

It support (or seems to load) GRUNB fails with an error of '22 '. When I changed the BIOS to AHCI settings error replaced by "Error 21".

I tried to eliminate any problems:

    • Tested the drive and the USB on a core i3 laptop [AOK]
    • Checked hardware virtualization is enabled in the BIOS OF THE system [YES]
    • I tried vSphere 5.1 [SAME MISTAKES]

Does anyone have ideas, what could cause this problem?

    THX

    Keke

    All problems solved now.
