The raid5 to raid6 upgrade

Hi, I have a 12 x disc 1 to md3200i with this layout:

11 disk forming a raid5 with a hot spare.

I've been advised that raid5 with 11 discs is not a good idea, because of the high probability of failure during the reconstruction, so I ask: is it possible to change the configuration of a with the spare drive raid6 without messing up the data?

It is possible online?

I wouldn't mind not having a spare drive if I can survive 2 disk failures.

Hello Zoid,

Yes, you can change the raid level with the help of your extra disk.  You can also do online as well.  I'd also sure you have a backup before you start, just in case anything should happen that you can restore your data.

Please let us know if you have any other questions.

  • PERC H700 reconfigure RAID5 to RAID6

We currently have a Dell PowerEdge R610 (PERC H700 embedded controller) with SAS 6 x 300 GB disks in a RAID5 configuration. We want to replace it with 6 x 1 TB drives in a RAID6 configuration. We must do so with as little downtime as possible (preferably no). Is it possible to Exchange each small disc out with the largest disk and perform a direct reconfiguration of 5 + 1 RAID5 to RAID6 4 + 2 configuration?

States of the documentation you need to add a new disk to reconfigure from RAID5 to RAID6 RAID6 for a smaller virtual drive, but given that the new drives are much larger, it should theoretically be possible to reconfigure without adding a new drive all in maintaining / increasing capacity. If the controller supports that is my question.

    1. you cannot mix SAS and SATA drives in the same array, to replace a 300 GB SAS drive with a 1 to SATA will NOT work.

    2. IF you were to replace the 300 GB SAS drives with 1 TB SAS drives, you might reconfigure your table to include all of the space on the disks, however...

3 If you reconfigure your 1.5 to 5 to VD VD, you MUST have already installed the operating system in UEFI boot mode. If you currently have your system in the BIOS boot mode, you should be limited to a 2 TB VD or need to reinstall the OS using the UEFI.

4 reconfiguration of a 6-disk RAID 5, RAID 6 requires the addition of a 7 disk, regardless of the involved disk space.

  • Satellite Pro A200-16N: can I use the recovery CD after upgrade to Vista

    HII!

IM thinking of upgrading to windows vista on my Satellite Pro A200-16N and I ran the pre-upgrade of windows vista from microsoft website and it says that my system will be in charge of windows vista so im ok about it.

The problem is that if my laptop was to break or something like that at some point, will my recovery CD provided by toshiba to work always on the laptop with windows vista?
They will return the laptop for windows xp or from my laptop has another operating system they will not work?

If I were to upgrade to windows vista should I upgrade my BIOS before or after the upgrade to vista?
As I download the new drivers before upgrading Yes?

    Thank you!

The restore CD will of course work.
The recovery CD will always set the laptop back to the factory settings. This means that the whole HARD drive will be formatted and the image of Toshiba will be installed.

    > What's the deal with BIOS? I put t understand!
    > If I were to upgrade to windows vista should I upgrade my BIOS before or after the upgrade to vista?
To my knowledge, that this laptop was already shipped with Vista, so you need not update the BIOS if you want to reinstall Vista.

Some series Satellite A200 needs a BIOS update if you want to use the XP.
In such cases, it s advisable to upgrade the BIOS to version XP first, then install OS X.

  • RAM upgrade problem: Flash the BIOS? or upgrade the processor?

Hi, I jumped in with both feet and now need help to get out me!

I have a desktop PC HP Pavilion Elite HPE-470uk who becomes a bit slow (processor card here http://ark.intel.com/products/48505/Intel-Core-i3-550-Processor-4M-Cache-3_20-GHz). After you have added a bluray player that I noticed that it's getting a bit slow so thought I would add little RAM.

I bought a few Hyper X8GB of HyperXbeast 1600hhz, slipped in and the PC did nothing but to turn on and off several times. I checked the two sticks and they both do it. I then (plow in front) checked what memory, the processor can handle and discovered "The Intel® Core™ i3 - 5xx / Intel® Core™ i3-21xx processors handle memory DDR3 1066/1333 MHz" by http://www.intel.com/support/processors/corei3/sb/CS-031175.htm

After a discussion on another forum, that it has been suggested that I have updated the BIOS because it can allow the processor to manage memory 1600 mhz, but I don't know where to start on this or what version to selected download. I'd appreciate any help you can offer on this.

The other way, that I can see is to update the processor itself. I thought of nothing too fancy just an i5 because it will allow me to run 3d blurays and should allow me to run some apps at the same time. After reading this http://m.wikihow.com/Upgrade-a-Processor it seems too complicated. Is it really just a matter of taking off the fan, declipsant the old processor, nine droping in and then put on some cooling stick stuff?

Or should I just return the memory and get good memory?

    See you soon

    Atdot.

Here are the specifications of original factory for your desktop HP Pavilion Elite HPE-470uk and its card mother MS-7613 (Iona-GL8E). Based on these specifications, this model can support up to 16 GB (4 GB x 4 DIMMs) as follows:

    Dual channel memory architecture
Four DDR3 DIMM sockets (240 pin)
    PC3-10600 (DDR3-1333)
    PC3-8500 (DDR3-1066)
    Memory non - ECC, unbuffered
Supports up to 16 GB on 64 bit computers

    In addition, this model can support the following Intel processors;

Maximum frequency of the processor of the heart < = 2.93GHz
    Intel Core i7 - 8xx (Lynnfield core)
    Intel Core i5 - 7xx (Lynnfield core)
    Intel Core i5 - 6xx (Clarkdale core)
    Intel Core i3 - 5xx (Clarkdale core)

If you do not have to worry about the update of the BIOS, there is no updates available for your computer BIOS. Honestly, I return the incorrect memory and upgrade to a minimum of 8 GB of RAM. Then, if it solves all your problems, you could also upgrade the processor.

As the computer is nearly 4 years old, you can consider a factory HP restore to return the computer to a facoty as State. In many cases, it returns original full speed of the computer. The reason why this helps, because the BONE is swollen and clogged over time.

  • Satellite Pro A300 - will be lost the warranty if I upgrade the RAM?

    Hey guys,.

I wanted to know if I purchase and install my own module SO-DIMM RAM in my laptop, it will void my warranty?
If so, how can I spend my memory?

    I agree with Akuma.
You will not void the warranty if you upgrade the RAM.
I've also updated my RAM and I t has not had any problems with my warranty.

Moreover, the best RAM for upgrade is the RAM even if you as before. I mean the manufacturing and specification. So you can ensure that the new RAM will work.

  • The upgrade patch cannot be installed by the Windows Installer service because the program to be upgraded is may be missing, or the upgrade patch may update a different version of the program

I try to use the Microsoft Office tool that implement an MSI for 64-bit Office 2010 installation file.  The tool works file and creates the msi file.  I get to the tool by going to the x 64-bit folder on the office 2010 installation disc.

I install a new virtual machine from Windows 7 and tried to use the MSI file to install office 2010 and I get the error:

If I just click Setup on the office 2010 dvd he moved very well on the same VM window7.

  • Disable the Win 7 Ultimate Upgrade before installing on another computer?

    Hello

I have a HP Pavilion dv5 the cam, e with Win 7 Home Premium. I'm walking the OS for Win 7 Ulitimate.

Now, I'll sell the dv5 and want to install the Win 7 Ultimate Upgrade on another computer. I need to disable the Win 7 Ultimate license upgrade, or do I just restore the dv5 back to factory condition using the recovery disk.

And then just install the Win 7 Ultimate Upgrade on another computer?

You are the very welcome, Mike.

If you obtained a retail product key, you should be able to install W7 Ultimate on any other PC.

If you don't have a Microsoft account or a link where you can download W7 Ultimate once again, then you can get it here...

    2147483647 English Windows 7 Ultimate x 64 X 17 - 59465.iso of http://msft.digitalrivercontent.net/Win/X17-59465.ISO

Then use this tool to transfer the ISO to a flash USB 4 GB or DVD drive.

The tool also performs the bootable media.

    http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msusa/HTML/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool

Make sure that the size of the ISO file you get is that the download site indicated that it was.

Sometimes the download says "complete", but it wasn't and you end up with a partial file, which will not work.

  • What is the best way to upgrade Windows 7 Professional to Windows 7 Ultimate

What is the best way to upgrade Windows 7 Professional to Windows 7 Ultimate to load the language packs?

    Hello
Welcome to the Microsoft community. Sorry for the delay in responding.

Please take a look at this article for more information on the upgrade to Windows 7 Ultimate.
Upgrade to another edition of Windows 7 by using Windows Anytime Upgrade but now it would be better if you upgrade to Windows 10 directly. If you have Windows 7 Professional, you qualify for a free update to Windows Professional 10.

    Upgrade to Windows 10

Which edition of Windows I get as part of the free update?

To install the language packs take a look at this article.

Windows 7 language packs are available for computers that are running Windows 7 ultimate or Windows 7 Enterprise

Hope that the information provided has been helpful and let us know if you need more help. We will be happy to help you.

Original title: the reconstruction of my PC - Windows 7 issue.

Also note that as you change not the motherboard Windows should not require re-installation and activation.
