    1. your iMac end 2013 supports the facilities of BIOS/MBR and GPT/EFI.

    2. the legacy BIOS/MBR method requires a hybrid MBR.

3 EFI/GPT is recommended for your specific model.

    4. you can use the GPT Fdisk steps in your link to make your drive a GPT disk only. It is not enough.

    5. you will need to convert the FAT32 partition space using the following OS X Terminal

    diskutil eraseVolume free disk0s4 FREE

This will return an error, because free space is not associated with disk slices.

    6. at this point, use the USB installer created by the wizard of BC, boot from it and hold down the Alt/Option key and select Boot EFI (not Windows). Point to the portion of the free space that you see after the + 620 MB Recovery HD. It will separate into a small (128 MB) MSR and the rest as MSD (NTFS).

    7. do not install W7 in Boot EFI, because it has some difficulties.

    8. when Windows is installed, and BC drivers are not installed, run setup.exe from the Bootcamp folder.

    9. If csrutil is not found, you are in the recovery of the Internet, because your local Recovery HD is corrupted. The rescue of the failure of the local recovery is restoration of Internet. Your must be on El Capitan. There is no csrutil (or SIP) before El Capitan.

During the installation of new versions of windows it is important to understand that there are two main formats of hard drives and there are also two forms of priming.

    UEFI boot:

Newer computers come with what we call a uefi boot interface. This allows additional features such as start secure as well as HP UEFI to support environment that allows you to test different hardware without having to start an operating system.

UEFI operating systems use the disc Table of Partition GUID (GPT) format that allows multiple partitions, as well as larger capacity hard drive.

    BIOS boot:

Older computers have the BIOS that contans the basic as well as setting the date of the on-board system and clock. Features such as virtualization or CPU overclocking (according to availability on selected hardware) are able to be enabled or disabled in the BIOS. Most of the features of the BIOS have now been reproduced in the latest UEFI boot.

BIOS according to the operating systems use the Master Boot Record (MBR) disk format that allows the support of legacy operationg systems.

    What it means:

To downgrade your device Windows 8.1 to windows 7, you can either

    1. Format the disk to MBR format.  (Be sure to back up your data before doing this)
    2. Start your installation of windows media 7 in UEFI mode (make sure that your UEFI boot mode is set to UEFI hybrid for maximum compatibility)

DiskPart allows you to select the physical disk, rather than the partitions so when you convert between MBR and GPT (and), you lose the recovery partition. Condition have recovery HP/Windows Media you shouldn't encounter too much trouble for the recovery of your computer.

Hope this helped and good luck with your re-setup

    Hi Nnrmalata,

    1. you are trying to install 32-bit or 64-bit Windows 7?

    2. What is the brand and model of your computer?

Boot from GPT is only supported for 64-bit of Windows 7 on UEFI-based systems.

For more details, refer to this link:

    http://msdn.Microsoft.com/en-us/Windows/hardware/gg463525.aspx

If your computer does not support UEFI, back up your important data to an external drive and delete all partitions on hard drives and create a new partition.

    (a) start from the Windows 7 DVD

    (b) click on install now

    (c) in the configuration screen, click Custom (Advanced)

    (d) click on drive Options

    (e) select the partitions to format

    (f) click on Format - this will erase EVERYTHING on this partition

    (g) create a new partition, and then select a partition to install Windows on.

    (h) follow the on-screen instructions and install Windows.

Note: Converting a hard disk partition or volume from NTFS to FAT32 requires that you reformat the partition, which deletes all the data on this subject. Be sure to back up data that you want to keep before you begin.

You can check the link for reference:

Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the configuration of the BIOS/CMOS settings can be solved. Changes to settings are at your own risk.

If above did not help, please refer to the steps in this link.

Thanks for posting your request, I'll be more than happy to help you

If I understand correctly you want to use the trunk legacy rather than the UEFI boot, before getting into the details, however,

Here is the difference between Boot EFI and start-up of the legacy

This is the process used by the firmware to find the target of starting:

Legacy boot is used by the firmware BIOS boot process.
The firmware keeps a list of installed storage devices can be bootable (Floppy Disk Drives, hard drives, optical drives, tape drives, etc.) and list them in a configurable priority. the POST procedure has finished, the firmware loads the first sector of each target of memory storage and it scans for a valid Master Boot Record (MBR). If a valid MBR is found, the firmware passes execution of code found in the MBR, bootloader that allows the user to select a partition to boot from. If we don't get, it proceeds to the following equipment in the boot order. If no MBR is found at all, the user is presented with the famous "Please insert system disk".

UEFI boot is used by the UEFI firmware boot process.
Firmware maintains a list of volumes of valid boot called EFI Service of Partitions. During the POST firmware procedure UEFI scans all bootable storage devices that are connected to the system for a valid GPT GUID Partition Table (). Unlike a MBR, a GPT does not contain a boot loader. The firmware itself scanning the closure for a score of Service EFI to boot from. If no boot EFI partition is found, the firmware can fall back on the boot of the legacy method. If boot UEFI and legacy boot fail, the famous "Insert system disk" will be presented.

In general, the UEFI boot is more desirable.

So I'd like a clean install of Windows 8.1 without changing the style of hard drive or in bulk my RECOVERY partition.

    @lucasc ,

Hello and thanks for the display on the HP support forums.  You will not be able to do it without damaging the recovery partition.  If you want to do a fresh install on your system, use the system recovery.

If this isn't the case, you will install the operating system of your choice.  So before you send that the laptop came with the operating system, and you supported drivers for the operating system you want to install.

If this isn't the case, you will not be able to find in driver support and you end up with hardware problems.  The drivers are built for laptop based on the OS that it was released with and they are owners.

I hope this helps.  Thanks again for posting and have a great day.

  • How to change the size of the protection GPT Partition

I have a MacBook Pro (mid-2012) with 250 GB SSD. Next to OSX, I used BootCamp to install Windows 8 and then improved to 8.1 Windows and Windows 10. Everything worked well to 8.1 Windows but when I upgraded to Windows 10, she could not make backups of image. Support Microsoft informs me that it is because the size of protective Partition is too small and must be increased at least 300 MB to 200 MB to reach its current size. Here's my current disk configuration:

    View of MAC:

    #: NAME SIZE TYPE IDENTIFIER

    0: GUID_partition_scheme * GB 251,0 disk0

    1: disk0s1 EFI EFI 209.7 MB

    2: Apple_HFS Macintosh HD 100.0 GB disk0s2

    3: disk0s3 Apple_Boot Recovery 650.0 MB HD

    4: Microsoft database BOOTCAMP 150,0 GB disk0s4

    Windows display:

    1 - protection GPT partition Partition - 200 MB

Partition 2 - d: Partition first, HFS - 100 GB (this is where OS x is installed)

Partition 3 - primary partition - 620 MB (no idea what it is and how it got underway)

    4 - C: partition BootCamp - NTFS - 139,83 GB

The OSX partition has plenty of space available (61GB). My knowledge of Mac OS x is very limited. I don't want to do something that could make the system unbootable or require reinstallation of the operating system and its applications. How to resize this partition to provide a space for the GPT partition resizing?

Thank you for looking into this.

It seems that what Microsoft calls GPT partition protection is the EFI partition in OSX. Wonder why its size limits the ability of Windows 10 to backup image.
