The terminal commands/help shell initialization files

A few days ago, I opened the terminal on my MBP and tried the help command. Here, I tried ls help. I was expecting to get help for the command ls, but I got this instead:

LS: help: no such file or directory

I know that ls , it was just try random commands on my terminal. However, after some searching on Google I realized that some people had similar problems with some commands doesn't work is not on the terminal. And most of the problems appear to be related to the shell initialization files.

How can I fix this?

It was just try random orders

Orders randomly won't work. You must enter commands that make sense. "ls help" is a command to list a file named 'help' in the current directory. Since there is no file, all you get is an error message. If you want to learn how to use the shell, I suggest you only begin by reading a book or a tutorial online. I don't have a specific recommendation.

    Terminal Server can 'remember' commands you have issued. Open Terminal and type this command

    What you get is a complete list of commands executed when using Terminal. If you don't you probably erased from history or abnormally closed the Terminal application.

  • Cannot run most of the terminal commands

    Recently the Terminal application on my iMac has been upward. When I opened the app, it displays the message: "-bash: touch: command not found". I am more able to run ruby of the IRB of terminal or access. Even simple commands such as ls train "-bash: ls: command not found". The terminal command, only that I was able to run so far is pwd. • How to automate the process of CopyApplication using the HFMCMD command line shell

    Hello

    Can someone please explain the automation application copy process using HFMCMD command line shell.

    New in 11 versions is a copy request utility that takes the input from the command line. This utility allows scheduling copy operations using third party, planning of utilities such as the built in Windows Scheduler. The HFM copy App Command Line Utility in releases of the + 11.1.2 lies in EPM_ORACLE_HOME\Products\ FinancialManagement \Utilities and for all the previous versions of + 11.1.1, the location is % Hyperion_Home%\FinancialManagement\Server. The utility is named HfmCopyAppCmd.exe or HfmCopyAppCmd_x64.exe.

    The command line utility has the same options that the utility based GUI with the exception being that there is no progress window to watch tasks participated and no option to retry a failed task. In order to run the command line utility, the computer that runs the utility must have installed the Package redistributable Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 SP1. This package is installed by the installer of version 11 EMP, so it doesn't have to be installed manually when executing an HFM application server, but it may be necessary to install the copy utility is run on a server database directly.

  • Is it Possible terminal command via ExtendScript toolkit?

    Hello world!

    I need to use the terminal command using javascript on extendscript.

    But, I will automate the script on macintosh and windows operating systems.

    Is it possible to use both in the same code?

    For example, I have will automate the pdffonts names in pdf files. so, I use the command on a mac '/ Users/user/Desktop/fontlist/pdf pdffonts' which gives the PDF font names. It works on manually. Is it possible to use the code for mac and windows on extendscript toolkit?  or separately give a code!

    Thank you

    Peter.

    I don't know how it works on Mac, but with Windows, you can have your orders in a batch file, and then run that ExtendScript. For example, here's a script that creates a batch file and then execute it:

    var bat = File ("~\\temp.bat");
    bat.open ("w");
    bat.writeln ('start Notepad.exe "C:\\DATA\\Scripts\\results.log"');
    bat.writeln ('quit');
    bat.close ();
    bat.execute (); // This is what runs the batch file (like a double-click on it in Windows Explorer).

    You can detect the operating system that is running the script using $.os. On my system

    alert ($.os);

    Displays "64-7-Windows 6.1 Service Pack 1 (32-bit emulation)". -Rick

  • All hidden files are visible after the command help

    Hello
    When I removed all my files were hidden 'newfolder.exe' virus and I have should use a command in cmd to display them.
    After each use attrib command ([driveletter]:------attrib - r - a-s - h) my files are back but all files hidden, including the file system and the album art and etc are too visible

    How can I solve this problem?

    Thank you

    Hello

    Windows has the ability to hide all system files, it's looking at the properties of each file to see if the checkbox 'hidden' or 'system' is defined.

    The command you used all the flags hidden / system removed from all files on your entire hard drive. There is no way to undo what you have (except the System Restore, if necessary). The reverse of the order hiding everything, including your files.

    The preferred method to hide or display files is to go to Folder Options and together to "hide system files and hidden", but this will not help now, because you corrupted the data he uses by running this command.

    If the system restore will not roll back to before running this command, you will need to manually enter each file and re - configure these options.

  • How to run commands from the Terminal from the Finder?

    I would ask a series of Terminal commands in a file, then run the commands by double-clicking on the file in the Finder.  I found a number of sources on how to do on the internet, but most include comments from other users by saying: "this has not worked for me.  I have not found a definitive 'it's how

    I created a test file, use TextEdit, named test.commandand saved to my desktop.  The file contains these commands:

    ! / bin/sh

    chmod + x ~/Desktop/test.command

    echo 'Hi. ' here

    echo 'Hi' once again

    When I double-click the file, however, it sometimes just opened in the Finder.  Other times, I get an error message saying I don't have permission to run the file.  I thought that the chmod command was to manage the authorization, but maybe I'm not using it correctly.

    Can anyone help?

    #! / bin/sh

    You must # follow-up by the! as the very first 2 characters of the file.

    And as bash is the default shell, you should probably actually tell

    #! / bin/bash

    The chmod + x command should be performed after you have created the file test.command, not inside her.

    Another way to run shell commands is via Automator-> run the Shell Script

    Automator has no need to open a Terminal Services session to process orders.  But if you want to have the command display something, it might be simpler to use a .command file, although there are ways to view things in an Automator app as well.

  • How to compile the files in c ++ in the Terminal? Where to find the Makefile?

    Hello who can help

    I have three files in a directory as follows

    IntRateCalculator.h

    IntRateCalculator.cpp

    main.cpp

    my book shows me something like this

    $ make

    GCC - c IntRateCalculator.cpp.

    GCC - c main.cpp.

    GCC-o main.o IntRateCalculator.o rate function

    I tried these welcome in the terminal, but they have not worked and terminal showed me errors. Then I realized later that I need to use the makefile provided on a UNIX platform so that it to work.

    So where and how do makefile?

    Thank you very much for your help!

    Hello BingZL,

    What kind of errors do you have?

    However, it is a debatable issue. You should find a new book, because these commands will not work. You need a Makefile before running. You'll need Xcode or the tools command line, nothing to do with C++.

  • How to move a file to the rear using the Terminal

    Hello world

    I just recently started to learn how to use the terminal in OS X I learned how to move files from one directory to another, but I don't know how to move a file back again. Here is an example:

    (I'm already in the Desktop directory) In my office, I have a folder named "music" and a file called "algo.rtf". In order to move the "algo.rtf" file in the "music" folder, I type the following command: "musica algo.rtf mv / '. That works perfectly fine, when I check, the file is now in the new folder.

    But what happens if I want to move the file "algo.rtf" which is now in "musica" on the desktop? I can't understand. I tried the following:

    'cd musica' (so now I'm in the folder where the file is) and from there I typed: "mv algo.rtf Desktop /" (but then it is said; no such directory not found)

    I understand that he says no "found" because it is looking for a folder named "Desktop" in the folder named "music" and this is why it does not work.

    But that still doesn't help me much because I still don't know how to bring it back to "Desktop". If anyone knows how to do this, I would be very happy for your response!

    Thank you.

    Use:

    MV algo.rtf...

  • Create the heterogeneous Services initialization file

    Hello, I am new to oracle as I am a student. I installed Oracle Database 11 g Release 2 Enterprise Edition.

    I want to use a Microsoft Excel file in a source file. In the Help Center it says I have to create the heterogeneous Services initialization file in a specific directory by using these commands: HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO = odbc_excel
    HS_AUTOREGISTER = TRUE
    HS_DB_NAME = dg4odbc

    My question is where should I run these commands?

    If I have to do in SQL Plus, how for the specific path? When sqlplus open just writing SQL > and I don't know how I can go down the path that I want to so I can run the commands.

    I can go through the command prompt, but of course, it does not recognize these commands.

    Any answer would be instructive. Thank you.

    http://docs.Oracle.com/CD/E11882_01/OWB.112/e10582/loading_ms_data.htm

    You don't need to run the Sql command * more

    HS_FDS_CONNECT_INFO = odbc_excel
    HS_AUTOREGISTER = TRUE
    HS_DB_NAME = dg4odbc

    You must create the initexcelsid.ora file in the OWB_HOME\hs\admin directory with the list above

  • Terminal command to change the wallpaper does not

    I recently did a program that changed my desktop wallpaper according to the time of day.  He worked by entering a terminal command that looked like something like this:

    osascript-e ' tell application "Finder" to the image of the desktop value "/ path/to/file.jpg" as a POSIX file '

    It was working fine, until recently.  Now when I enter the command to define 'fichier.jpg', it works, and defines it as my desktop background as it is supposed to, but when I replace it with a new image of the same name and path, the command affects my wallpaper the original image of the same name.  When I went to change my wallpaper in system preferences, it showed in my new defined image preview area, even if it wasn't.  I'm doing something wrong or is there a problem with my Mac?

    osascript-e ' tell application "Finder" to set the image of the Office of POSIX file "/ path/to/image.jpg" '

    On OS X 10.11.6 and by operating in the Terminal, the foregoing has changed the image of the office immediately whenever it is run with a new image.
