The upgrade of my Precision T3400

I put my T3400 to level, and I want to know how long I can take it.

  1. According to Dell, the maximum size of any player is 1 TB or 1.5 TB, according to which tech I ask.  But when I tried a 2 TB drive, the system seemed to have no problem - what is the size of maximum disk I can use?
  2. Dell said that the more RAM that I can use is 16 GB - someone ' one already tried most?
  3. I've been adding readers and cards, i/o and RAM - how do I know when (if ever) I reached the limits of my power 375 watts? (Dell offered also a 525 watts, so I guess that some call configurations for this.)

I've already changed in XP x 32 for Win 7 Pro x 64.

Max ram is 16 gigs but its more expensive to buy RAM that it is to get a new DDR3 as a T3500 system, which would also have the 525W power supply.  Same 8 GB of DDR2 memory is over priced now that they are scalping.

2 TB is max without a host Bus Adapter.

BIOS A09 is fine, but later versions have problems with PSA Diagnostics. BIOS earlier than A08 won't support 16 concerts.

  • The upgrade from XP - Pro 32-bit to Windows 7 Pro questions

I'm working on a T3400 precision with XP Professional. I believe that when it was purchased in January 2010, it's a PC running Windows 7 Pro and he ordered with an installed XP Professional downgrade. The sticker on the Tower Microsoft says Windows 7 Pro.

In any case, it is on the "Compatible with Windows 7" list of Dell, but I'm under Windows 7 Upgrade advisor to check that there is no problem. (It worked for at least 3 hours now...) We did no change of material from the purchase - just different programs.

I read the guide from Microsoft for the upgrade & I understand I have to perform a custom Setup out of the upgrade disc. Which means reinstalling all my programs. Which is a pain but nothing I can't handle most of my programs. Except that I am concerned about programs that was already installed on the PC by Dell. Namely my Adobe Acrobat & Microsoft Office 2007 programs. Did I lose those? Or I'll be able to download & reinstall the wrench off the Microsoft sticker on my tour?

We have not bought a disc yet. I guess that we need Windows 7 Pro upgrade disc. Anything else I should know?

In the United States, you can request a Dell installation disk:

    support.Dell.com/.../backupcd_form

Alternatively, you can also install using retail media, then activate by phone from Microsoft (not Dell) using the product on your COA key:

    www.heidoc.NET/.../14-Windows-7-direct-download-links

In regards to Adobe and office... you should have received license for those cards.  If you have lost, you can probably recover with Magic Jelly Bean or similar, get support for retail, then activate using the keys.

  • Cannot complete installation of Windows 7 OEM on Precision T3400

    Can someone help me?

I try to do a clean install on a Dell Precision T3400 with Windows 7 64 Bit OEM, but cannot complete the sequence.

It goes through the sequence of the whole installation, restart a couple of times. He gets in the beginning of the sequence as "complete installation" - contribute to what, according to me, it's the final reboot - and then crashes. I think that what should come next is the bit where to enter information first name of computer use - time, date, place - time etc. I never get that much, however.

I have not updated the BIOS. Previously Windows Vista - but the disk has been deleted - not sure if I can update the BIOS in this State.

Another thing - I swapped the graphics card. The monitor of works well during the initial installation sequence.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks a lot for reading.

The suggestion above about SATA drives didn't really solve my problem, but it got me thinking in the right direction.

Here's what I've learned about this through the answer and the answers on other forums above. It turns out be a common problem:

It is usually caused by the lack of drivers for devices that are connected to the computer. Devices can include: any type of USB device (may be same mouse or keyboard), any type of hard disk, graphics cards and other types of cards such as PCI or PCIe Firewire. If you have a SCSI card then remove it permanently.

I had a Dell keyboard with built in USB ports and a Media Player control. I swapped it for a simple vanilla ordinary keyboard.

I also already swapped the graphics card that came installed on the T3400 for an older NVidia Quadro card as a fix for compatibility with my older monitors SVGA adapter.  When I searched on the NVIDIA site, I discovered that there is no Windows 7 driver for my graphics card, so I bought a DVI - I adapter that I needed the original card and replace.

My problem turned out to be the graphics card.

On other forums I have seen people solve the problem by removing the USB devices all THE. If you have a keyboard and a USB mouse, this may seem to be a problem. However, once you have initialized the windows 7 install process you can remove the keyboard and the mouse. Whenever the computer reboots it page and warn that any input device is fixed, but after a short pause, he must continue with the installation procedure. In my case, the fancy USB keyboard was certainly a problem too. Disconnected after initialization of the installation allowed the installation of two additional steps.

I curse me Microsoft about this problem, but to be honest, I was not able to run a compatibility test of windows 7 on my computer. I bought it on ebay without an operating system. If I could perhaps it would have marked the graphics card problem and composite USB keyboard device.

Don't know if it will work, but if you can't figure out what your driver problem, you can be able to run a hardware compatibility test and periperhals by a temporary installation of Ubuntu and connect it to the Net. I had no problem to boot Ubuntu from a USB key and the connection to the network.  It works perfectly first time without any of the usual shenanigans of Microsoft. In my opinion, Ubuntu is an operating system much higher with a much nicer user experience. My only reason to stick with Microsoft's older software. It's highly unlikely that I will ever consider buying a new system from Microsoft again. They lose the pedals after XP.

    Good luck

  • The upgrade of Vista Business 64 bit on a workstation used

I recently bought a Dell Precision T5400 used with Windows Vista professional. I'm very happy with it, but I intend on a program 64 bit running on the workstation. What are my upgrade options?

Anyway you have to clean install.

Your options are Windows Vista 64 bit, Windows 7 64-bit or 64-bit Windows 8.

You can use a Digital River 64-bit with Service Pack 1 setup files to a bootable media and pure install 64-bit Windows Vista Business.

I recommend Windows 7 Professional with Service Pack 1 64-bit, but you have to pay for a license (its probably the most expensive option).

You can also switch to Windows 8 Professional upgrade license is cheaper than that of Windows 7, but in my opinion, a lower quality product.

I would recommend either tried and decide what you like the most and if you think that its worth the upgrade.

Follow the instructions in install windows own A: http://philipyip.wordpress.com/dell-community-forums/

I suggest running step 2 and 3 to A Clean installation of Windows Vista before experimenting. The guide tells you how to obtain trial versions of Windows 7 and 8 so you can evaluate them. With Vista 64 bit, you have the product key and must be able to activate using activation activation recovery backup program or phone to Microsoft.

  • Hearing 5.5 does not work since the upgrade to Windows 10?

Hearing of the charges u, and I need to work with the files load in the software too. But nothing else happens. It won't play, won't record, regardless of whether the file is passed to in the menu, a sequence of keys, or a button on the screen. I have re-installed the software: no change. I have uninstalled and reinstalled again: nothing.

    Help, please?

    Elegantly yours.

    Tom Fitzmorris

[(informations personnelles par Email signatures et deles de renseignements personnels)-mod]

    I heard about 5.5 on Windows 10.

The first thing I would check is that Windows and hearing are "accepting" on the audio interface (and pilots) to use and also things like rates and few sample depth.  We had a poster with CS6 yesterday who had a similar problem and going through and manually configure the interface card / audio itself sorted.  The upgrade to win 10 to reset everything, probably for video playback, at the expense of the audio recording.

Your do not mention that you use as a sound card, so I can't be precise in what to do, but the first thing I would do is go to Windows Audio Control Panel and make sure that any sound card that you want to use is visible and selected by default for the recording and playback...  While in the audio control, also access advanced settings (recording and playback and make sure that the depth of rate and little run the settings you want.)

If you have a card with its own software external sound, go there and set it up to match Windows.

Finally, go to Edit/Preferences/Audio Hardware and make sure that the right device is set for recording and playback on the drop down menus.  Also, make sure that the "device class" is set to the right kind of driver for the audio interface you.  This will probably be Ms for an integrated sound card or to an external ASIO - but you'll have to work it yourself.  Apply all these changes, so I hope that things work out.

If this is not the case, let us know the details of your system and the audio interface and maybe we can come up with other ideas.

  • Adding more than one host ESX and the upgrade at the same time.  What is the order of preference of the operations here?

We are budgeting for more licenses and hardware for 2014 and want to do immediately in January.  I am trying to decide what is the best order of operations for adding two vmware hosts additional to our current installation of vsphere and also upgrade our vsphere / esx 4.1 u3 for the latest and best.

We have 3 Dell PowerEdge R710 running ESX 4.1 U3.  In this vmware cluster, there is a vcenter server 4.1 U3 virtual machine handle this.  The three servers are about 90% memory used so we add 2 additional servers.  Probably the Dell PowerEdge r.620 since we get up 2 in the space of a 710.  Storage is on a san EMC NX4 NFS which will become too but not yet, let's just deal with the vmware part.

When adding additional r.620 2, should I install ESX 4.1 on them and join them to the existing cluster and THEN pass vcenter and each one esx?  I ask precisely because 90% of use on 3 current servers, I need 2 other servers to support the update operations take place.  They would be able to repel vmotioned vm while each host receives an upgrade at the same time.

So which is the best way to go about adding of the hosts and the upgrade?  Would I add as 4.1, then they would be available as targets vmotion and so I have room to start the hosts one upgrade at a time?

If I update vcenter to the latest version, it is comparable backwards and can manage the 4.1 hosts, but also hosts 5.x?  I guess version 5.5 is the last one I would get from VMWare?  It is right of ESXi, then, how is this ESX ESXi 5.5 4.1 upgrade?  How much storage space do I need for ESXi 5.5, as I'm dechatoiement out of these r.620 Dell and need to know what hard drive to put in.

The steps that you must follow

    -Updated vCenter Server

-Upgrade of the ESX hosts (because we do a updating of the material we will install 5.5 on our new guests and add them to the cluster and then dismantle our existing)

    -Upgrade VMWare tools

    -Update data warehouses

ESXi 5.5 has these storage requirements:

    • Installing ESXi 5.5 requires a boot device is at least 1 GB in size. When booting from a local disk or SAN/LUN iSCSI, a 5.2 GB drive is necessary to allow for the creation of the VMFS volume and a scratch 4 GB partition on the boot device. If a smaller drive or logical unit number is used, the installation program attempts to allocate a region scratching on a separate local disk. If a local drive is not found, the scratch partition (/ scratch) is located on the disk virtual ESXi host, linked to the/tmp/scratch. You can reconfigure /scratch to use another drive or logical unit number. For best performance and memory optimization, VMware recommends that you leave no /scratch on the ESXi host ramdisk.
    • To reconfigure / scratch, see Configure the Scratch Partition of vSphere Client vSphere Installation and Installation Guide.
    • Because of the sensitivity of the I/O devices, USB and SD, the installation program does not create a partition scratch on these devices. Therefore, there is no tangible benefits to the use of the great features of USB/SD that ESXi uses only the first 1 GB. When installing on USB or SD, tent Setup devices to allocate a region scratching on a local disk or the data store. If no disk is local or data store, /scratch is placed on the virtual disk. You must reconfigure /scratch to use a persistent data store after the installation.
    • In Auto deploy facilities, Setup attempts to allocate a region scratching on a local disk or the data store. If no local disk or data store is found /scratch is placed on the virtual disk. You must reconfigure /scratch to use a persistent data store after the installation.
    • For environments that start from a San or use Auto Deploy, it is not necessary to assign a separate logical unit number for each ESXi host. You can co-locate areas scrape for several hosts ESXi on a single LUN. The number of hosts assigned to a single LUN must balance the size of the LUN and behavior I/O virtual machines.

I use a precision T3400 with a Core 2 Duo E6550. Windows XP SP3 works well, but I found some problems with the diagnoses that appear to be related to the BIOS A11.

When I select Diagnostics from the F12 boot menu, the system crashes almost immediately at the beginning of the PSA. Here is the error message:

    TREADMILL test
    Test result: System error
    Error code: 2000-0111
MSG: CPU 0: Protection General Exception occurred

When I boot a diagnostic CD (ver. 1322.1) passes most tests, but some of the processor and the system board tests at key upwards. All the tests of multiprocessor cache cause the following error:

Exception has occurred in the MPCACHE module. File 'IOAPICSP.asm' of MDM. Line 1645!

For the motherboard, the i/o APIC MP Test causes the following error:

Exception occurred in the module IOAPIC. File 'IOAPICSP.asm' of MDM. 2918 line!

I returned from BIOS A11 A09 and all those problems went away.

  • The upgrade of the Virtual Center 2 update 4 update?

I am currently running ESXi on IBm blades and they are running version 3i, 3.5.0 Update 2

We have Virtual Center 3.5 Update 2 installed as well.

We seek to improve our 3i to 4 upgrade ESX and Virtual Center.  I was looking through the upgrade guide, but there wasn't this listed scenario.

    My plan was to:

Take c and inplace upgrade of the Virtual Center Update 2 to 4 update server

VMotion invited out of one of our blades, then update the blade and bring guests.

Am I missing something?  Are there documents more precise that lists how should I do this?

seems good... Just get a full backup of your DB vCenter before starting.

The Upgrade Guide can be helpful as well.

Also, VMware tools for your guest will require an upgrade as well.

  • Remove the old "dump" spfile settings after the upgrade to 11g?

We have recently upgraded to a development instance from 10g to 11g using dbua. During the upgrade, we have provided a value for diagnosis Destination (diagnostic_dest). However, when I do a "dump of parameter of the show', I see several obsolete parameters like background_dump_dest, user_dump_dest and core_dump_dest. Although filled with places, that we would expect (under "diag"), I had hoped dbua could get rid of these "old" settings I interpreter 'old' to mean "deprecrated."

1st quarter) I must take action? I've seen several workshops to upgrade - to-11g / slides / tip sheets that recommend the deletion of "old" settings But they never seem to give any details on those who, precisely, to remove. Although I found the syntax (alter system reset < parameter name > scope = spfile sid ='* ') I need additional information on specific settings I should remove.

Q2) when we went from 9i and 10 g some time ago, I think not that the decisions have been taken to remove settings from 'old', then either. If our current 11g pfile / spfile may have contained superfluous. So what is the best way to review and identify the parameters to delete? I have to do the following:

Select name, value, isdeprecated of the parameter $ v where isdeprecated = 'TRUE '.

    ... and start from there?

While it would be nice to have a 'clean' spfile, I didn't much care on superfluous, inert stuff that is not harmful. But I am concerned with settings that could cause unwanted and unexpected behavior or performance problems. Does someone can give a specific example (or examples) settings of 'old' by leaving in place where can cause side effects?

When upgrading you must first remove all parameters Oracle will not be present. These are usually identified in the documents of upgrade.

Second, you need to delete probably all parameters that are obsolete and if present ignored. The presence of ignored parameters looks like confusion somewhere down the line.

Third, if you implement all the new features via database settings, you probably want to remove database settings that apply to the features that your new choice obsolete as you would probably want to remove sga_target and pga_aggregate_target, if you set to 11 g memory_target.

  • Precision T3400 follies

I was the proud owner of a T3400 precision until last week.  The power supply died and I decided to replace the old with a nearly identical refurb.  The configurations are very similar, I thought I could hover over the data with little effort and continue to use the T3400 as my machine backup air gap.

I have a strange problem that I can't seem to nail.  The original T3400 was related to my U3011 monitor for about 2 years with no problems.  When I received the replacement machine today, I can't do the replacement T3400 work with this monitor.  When I connect the video output, as soon as I put in the power cable, the status light power turns yellow, fans go to full speed and the computer will not start.  Connected to a cheap 19 "monitor phillips, the power indicator turns green and the computer will start and display the video.  I duplicated it with two different graphics cards, the original NVS290 and a PNY FX380LP.  The two cards will have a video output DVI on the Phillips, but the two cards show same yellow power state light behavior when it is connected to the U3011 monitor. from DVI, enter the U3011 works very well with my T3600 and two DVI displays correctly.  However, try this new T3400 with DVI input or video card gives the same result except once I had to remove the fleas memory due to a fault of beep which eliminated after that I reinstalled the chips and to monitor Phillips.

What baffles me, is the length of time, I used the original T3400 with still video equipment and have had no problems and now this situation seems to be the new normal.

Anyone has an idea here, I'm stumped.

Thanks for the 2 replies, but I solved the problem.

Question # 1 was the Orange light of death on my original T3400.  I replaced the original power supply with an OEM of Corsair, which was recommended elsewhere on the card and the computer started with the original re-installed equipment.

When I connect the computer to the U3011 monitor, light is orange again.  I removed the power cord quickly and replaced the DVI - D cable with a DVI-S spare part and the computer started normally.

My opinion is that there is a short circuit in the DVI - D cable, released original 375W PSU. According to a chart of food food recommendation I should run a minimum 450W while he was probably in his last breath.

The other issue was the refurb T3400 replacement that I bought and then delivered to a member of the family.  The BIOS in the refurb was A08 and once I had updated this BIOS to A13 was able to use the U3011.  The A08 BIOS only seemed to work with a 19 inch LCD.

After all that fuss I'm just glad that my T3400, it's back to normal operation.  I have always been pleased with the performance of the device and it was solid for almost 5 years now running 24/7.

Could someone give me some advice? Thanks in advance.

When you actually perform the upgrade? And what time zone do you use?

More precisely, you are in a time zone that has changed over the last 4 years? For example, most of the North America ended up with a time change advanced new savings in a few years and makes the Enterprise Manager very angry.

One suggestion I have is to delete and re-create the MA. The following commands will do the job after asking the huge pile of questions

EMCA - deconfig dbcontrol db-rest drop
EMCA - config dbcontrol db-rest create

    http://download.Oracle.com/docs/CD/B19306_01/EM.102/b40002/structure.htm#sthref73 describes the commands.

Since you have the patch, you obviously have access to Oracle Support. I suggest you also, you open a SR.
