The videos are blurred when recording a DVD or a hard drive, but in Windows Movie Maker

I converted videos from my Flip HD MP4 to MP3 Mini to allow me to use them in Windows Movie Maker.  When I play my movie in WMM, everything is great!  When I burn on a DVD or save it in another way outside WMM images and music are perfect, but the videos are grainy and blurred to the point where you don't see any!  When I converted them, I used an AVI format as it was the only one who has produced clear videos for download.

  • What type of DVD should I buy to burn my Windows Movie Maker movie? Also, I have Windows DVD Maker, but no DVD burner. What should I buy?

I created a movie in Movie Maker.  I bought some DVD + r's - the correct burn the movie on?  Also, I don't have a burner, I thought that I did, I can only burn a CD what should I buy?  I don't have a Windows DVD authoring program.

    Hi rondah,.

Welcome to the Microsoft community newsgroups.

The type of recordable DVD, you need to use depends on your DVD burner, as well as on your DVD player. Some DVD burners can burn only to certain types of DVD recordable. For example, with some DVD burners, you can only record to DVD + R discs or DVD + RW or DVD-R or DVD - RW discs, while some other DVD burners will let you burn on all of these recordable DVD types.

As long as your DVD burner supports burning to these types of discs, you can use Windows DVD creation to burn a DVD using one of the following types of recordable and re-recordable DVD media: DVD + R, DVD + RW, DVD - R, DVD - RW, and DVD - ROM. These recordable or rewritable DVDs can be either simple single laminate or single sided double layer.

You should also consider the device you're using to play the DVD once you have engraved, if possible. Some DVD players and DVD - ROM drives play only certain types of DVD. To determine what types of DVDs your DVD player or DVD - ROM drive can play, see the documentation that came with your device or go to the manufacturer's Web site.

  • The icons are blurred when size large.

Recently, I've migrated to W7 from XP and the difference is everything to do huh... shock... Out of the box, it takes a little tinkering before it becomes bearable. One of the settings that I need is linked to icons.

When the icons are huge (although probably 'normal size' for other people) they look washed out; not crispy. But when they are small, they look like if they were designed by an Impressionist painter. Don't get me wrong, I don't like the Impressionist paintings... in a Museum of fine arts. But I need clarity on my computer (just a tool). Old W3.11 icons can appear very 'yucky' and 'old fashioned' and maybe not to everybodys taste, but at least they were clear.

For example: the 'Open folder' icon in a file Explorer resembles a yellow arrow pointing upwards and left disorder. (It took me a few days and another computer where the icons were huge to know that it was supposed to be a folder on the open side and sligtly). The icon of a zipped file is just a blur (a bit like an injection of ICT). A text file icon is just a white field with light grey edge that is barely visible or recognizable. Microsoft Office icons can be identified by their colors. But any other program that uses a fuzzy green icon could easily be confused with Excel...

    What I've done so far:
-Check the calibration of the screen color, contrast, and brightness of the screen. I used to work with images and not easily convinced, but increases the clarity of icons ruined space color photos, so it wasn't an option.
-Clean the screen. Not really necessary, given that I don't have a touch screen and use the mouse pointer to point to something on the screen and not a greasy finger.
    -Cleaned my glasses... No improvement.
-Also, I checked my sight, and even if I don't probably are not eligible as a fighter pilot is about right.

Then... Here's the question, and beware that on the computer on which I work: I don't have the admin rights.

-Can I exchange all the default icons (folders, files, text, files, programs, etc.) for crisp and clear icons?
-If Yes, how can I do that?

    Thank you

PS: Increasing the size of the icon is not an option... I.m.h.o. it's just a waste of valuable space!

    I have it!

    - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

In order to have sharp crisp icons: the font to 100% settings you NEED
Adjustment of the police of the superior results of adjustment in Fuzzy icons. Checked!

If the fonts in the menus are too small, then go into the control panel-personalization-> choose the color of the window and start clicking on follow-up to the 'window color and appearance' me to adjust the fonts of all menus to your liking.

In numerous menu now fonts will increase... However: there are a lot of dialog boxes and places that will always show a smaller font size? For example: just press 'Start' in the lower left corner.

    - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

In my - probably not if - humble opinion, Microsoft could do that much easier...
Just make the size of the icons regardless of the font size!
(And Yes, I program a bit myself and am aware that can screw things up (allocation of space, the alignment of the text and icons, etc.), but these can probably be repaired by one or two lines of code).

Given that I don't see anything menus native windows for me is kind of correct... I'll make that a test. Some heavier style modding is required to fix those windows errors, that may be feasible at home, but not at the office...

    Thanks for all the help!
    I learned a lot of things that I didn't know! ;-)

I can't publish my holiday video (multiple files linked together by me in Windows Movie Maker with title screens before each clip and music) as Windows DVD Maker claims an unspecified error of 1.6% each time. I changed the output directory, but that did not help. I was wondering if I could download it my Windows Movie Maker in another free DVD file, making the software and if you have any suggestions?
    Thank you

Last reply first... No, are the Movie Maker project files
not compatible with other video editing software.

You are running Windows or Vista Movie Maker 6
    Live Movie Maker?

It is possible that your project is too complex for
your system resources but it is more than likely
some of your files source (Photos, video Clips,
Audio clips) are not fully compatible with Windows
    Movie Maker.

Several formats are apparently compatible with
Movie Maker, but the most reliable choices are:

    Photos - bmp
    Video - wmv
    Audio - wav, wma, wmv

Conversion to formats compatible before importing
in Movie Maker may be the solution.

There are many converters available on the net... some
    free... some detail.

The following freeware converter is just one example:

(FWIW... it's always a good idea to create a system)
Restore point before installing software or updates)

    Format Factory (freeware)
    http://www.videohelp.com/tools/Format_Factory
(the 'direct link' is faster download)
(the file you want to download is: > FFSetup290.zip<>
    (FWIW... installation..., you can uncheck
('all' boxes on the final screens)
    (Windows XP / Vista / 7)

First, you will need to decompress the file or just open the
    Drag > FFSetup290.exe< out="" of="" the="">
and drop it on your desktop. To install left click.

Next, after the download and installation of Format
Factory... you can open the program and
left click on the toolbar, the "Option" button and
"Select an output folder to" / apply / OK.
(this is where you find your files after they)
    are converted)

Drag and drop your video clips on the main screen...

Select "all to WMV" / OK...

Click on... Beginning... in the toolbar...

    That should do it...

    Good luck...

In some cases, a file with a file type that Windows Movie Maker does not support may cause Windows Movie Maker stops responding. This can be caused by incompatible video filters. You can verify what filters are installed and force Windows Movie Maker to avoid loading specific filters by restarting simply Windows Movie Maker.

Come back XP again - but now, while the BIOS sees two hard drives (reports size, Fab details, etc.), as far as Windows is concerned, it does not exist.

Tried to initialize in disk management - no sign there.
He was then released, put it in a shopping cart, connected to the office and initialized and formatted - then returned to mobile... zilch!

Your kind suggestions and recommendations could save just the remaining strands terrified of hair of a violent end...

    Logis

    Hello House,

Normally, if the BIOS recognizes the HARD drive, but not Windows, this means that the HARD disk is not formatted, but it must be visible under the Windows disk management.
    You see it now?

If not it is not easy to say what the reason are you should try load default settings in the BIOS and save it. Then start Windows and check if HDD is visible there too.

In the worst case, it s that a malfunction of the HARD disk controller, but what you can test if swap you the two drives and put them in another location.
