The Vista Capable upgrade is free?

Hello, guys. happy new year :)

I was given an old laptop Sony Vaio with the logo "designed for Windows XP/Windows Vista Capable." The vehicle currently has 2 GB of RAM and the OEM XP Home is authentic.

The former owner stayed with XP, but I need to upgrade to Vista because my applications do not support XP. I can't currently afford paid upgrades to 7/8.

When I inserted DVD a friend Windows Vista Home Premium to XP, he refused the product key, written in the COA on the PC sticker. The COA is genuine with XP.

So, am I eligible for Vista Home Premium or Basic?
And how can I get a valid PK for the upgrade?

P.S. I read a lot of contradictory statements on this subject, on Microsoft / OEM/Blogs/Forums various websites.
Some say I must ask a PK on the MS site, which is impossible. Others say that I need a DVD of the OEM upgrade. Yet others that I need to buy a boxed version of Vista, which is stupid, because many said getting the free upgrade.

I hope that someone knowledgeable enough Microsoft can erase this.

Happy new year 2013!

Hello

Welcome to the community forums of Microsoft and thanks for posting the question. According to the description, you need to know if you can upgrade to Windows vista Windows XP for free. Please answer a few questions to refine the question.

1. which product key you use to upgrade to Windows vista? You use the current Windows Vista product key?

2. have you received a product key upgrade to Windows vista when the purchasal?

The product key you enter can be used only for Windows XP. You must have a valid key for update for Windows Vista. If you do not have an upgrade license key provided by the manufacturer, you might not have to upgrade the operating system.

You can contact Sony Vaio to check if you are available for the upgrade offer.

THE present program is to upgrade an edition of Windows 7 to a superior and is only available to current users of Windows 7.

  • Question on the recovery CD and the Vista anytime upgrade

    Hello

I bought a toshiba laptop now a year ago, it came pre-installed with vista home premium.
I would like to do a complete cleaning my system as its useless been lately and isn't a fact since I bought.

It came only with - a the product recovery disc and upgrade Express windows.
But I'm worried because if I do a recovery of product I don't have the real vista disk it SHOULD have and will not have vista on my laptop or one of the files that toshiba put on it.

    What should I do?
What a product recovery disc actually have on it and do? What is the Windows anytime upgrade disc?

I have been informed by microsoft and I.T. technicians everywhere that i should have a vista installation disc in the same area so the fact it came pre-installed.

    Help, please

    > It came only with - a the product recovery disc and upgrade Express windows.

As you say you have the product recovery disc.
This Toshiba drive contains the image of Toshiba.
The image is a package and it contains the operating system Windows, Toshiba drivers, tools, utility and software further.

The use of the recovery CD will fix the laptop back to the factory settings.
So just boot from the recovery CD and follow the instructions on the screen.

    Just for info:
The recovery CD will format the whole HARD drive, but I see that a backup is not important to you.

  • Reinstall the Vista Ultimate upgrade after replacing hard drive - remove Windows PowerShell

My HDD recently crashed and the manufacturer (Dell) gave me a new one with the software and systems II had orginially purchased pre-installed on the drive.  In this case, I had Vista Home Premium installed.  I got about a year ago, bought and upgraded to Vista Ultimate and I'm now trying to reinstall (I have it on DVD).  When I do, I get a message that I must remove Windows PowerShell before upgrade.  I can't find PowerShell in the application removal utility, even if I can find it when I search in the start menu.

Any thoughts on how to deal with this?

In addition, since the beginning of this thread, I found the following instructions in another thread:

    How to uninstall Windows PowerShell

To uninstall Windows PowerShell 1.0 in Windows Vista, follow these steps:

    1. Click Start, in the Search box, type appwiz.cpl and press ENTER.
    2. In the tasks list, click View Installed Updates.
    3. In the list to uninstall an update , right-click right of Windows PowerShell (TM) 1.0 (KB928439), click on uninstall and follow the instructions to remove Windows PowerShell 1.0.

But, I do not see Windows PowerShell (TM) 1.0 (KB928439) in the generated list (although there are many, many others).  I found three programs of powershell appears when I put in the search box of start powershell.  Can I just delete them?

    Thank you.

Try download Revo http://www.snapfiles.com/reviews/revo-uninstaller/revouninstaller.html to uninstall all the programs of PowerShell.  I hope that you will find the main program so it can be uninstalled.

If that doesn't work, uninstall each update of PowerShell that you find.  Also, check the master list of program to see if you can find.  A when done, reboot and start the installation again and see if you come up against the same error.  If so, we may have to try another way to get rid of it - but we will cross that bridge if we come to it.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

    Hello

There is a free upgrade from Vista to Windows 7 for computers and software purchased in a certain amount of time, but which offer finished at the end of January 2010.

Before you spend your money, you should see if your computer is capable of running Windows 7.

Download and run the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor to see if your PC is ready for Windows 7. It scans your hardware, devices, programs for known compatibility issues installed, you gives advice on how to fix any problems found and recommends what to do before upgrade you.

  • ModusLink Vista upgrade is free or not free?

I just bought the laptop A100-906 with Windows XP Home Edition. I understand I can be upgraded to Windows Vista. And, as I understand it, for free.

But while I visit the site Microsoft Upgrade that I saw a price of article 95, 47USD without shipping and handling for Grand Vista Home Premium.

Am I have to pay, or I have to just make an order, send to [email protected] and Toshiba will pay?

So, I want to say this upgrade is free or Toshiba gives just a discount?

    Hej,

you are in the same situation, as if I were.

1: updates are only free from XP PRO to Vista Business or XP MCE, Vista Home Premium.
2: updates XP Home cost. Even from XP Home to Vista Home Basic, you will need to pay a lot.

I ordered as you want to make Vista Home Premium for 98, xx. Right now I'm happy that I could cancel the order. I really advice you not to order through Moduslink. The company was founded just for the upgrade. You can hardly reach them by e-mail. The only thing that works is letter or by fax.

And in the end: you get just an upgrade! So I kindly advice you don't not to order here. Instead, the order in your Favorites online shop a Windows Vista Home Premium SystemBuilder / OEM product. I ordered as well for 99,- so it is not even one Euro more then the upgrade. You get a full version and I got it in one day. I waited for more than 6 weeks and nothing happenend on ModusLink.

  • the Vista 64 bit for windows 10 or 8 upgrade

I know that this issue has been addressed, but with the thrust of MS to get everyone on Windows 10, I thought that I would like to ask a few questions.  I have two new computers as well on Windows and 10 a tablet on the 8.1.  The tablet will not load Windows 10... something that disappoints me.

But the reason of this post is that I also have a HP laptop, 5 years always on Vista.  The operating system has a lot of files corrupted with sfc / was unable to trouble.  Now, it takes a lot of time to start from a complete stop.

Then... I want to upgrade to a new OS Ms. .or this trade for a new Apple.  (The thing about Apple is just trying to compare how it compares to Windows 10 on my Asus and Dell computers.

But if I can improve this old computer... .well, then I have will continue to use it and forget about Apple at the moment.

What can I do?  Can I upgrade to Windows 10?  Should I buy Windows 7?  I would like to reload Vista, but I think that MS will not continue to support.

Someone can help me understand how to repair this laptop and is an update worth it?

    Extended support is very good.

You still get your updates, but there will be no more updates to the operating system.

Depends on hardware configuration required on later operating systems, and also find out if the manufacturer of the laptop computer is supported and provides drivers for operating systems later as to whether it is possible or feasible to upgrade or not.

There is no free upgrade Vista to 7, 8.1, or 10.

Follow these steps before you buy Windows 7.

Microsoft sells more than 7; Try Amazon.com.

Go to your computer / computer laptop manufacturer Web site and see if Windows 7 drivers are available for your make and model computer / laptop.

I have a desktop computer with Vista business I want to upgrade to Windows 7 and install Vista on a laptop that has XP Pro but is Vista capable.

    Hello

If you use the Vista licence as part of the upgrade to Windows 7 you cannot use the license of Vista anywhere elsewhere

It is part of the upgrade process

    and also read this on licensing rules;

If Windows was preinstalled on your computer, Dell, HP, etc., or you bought an OEM/license disk, they are both classified as an OEM license and are not transferable.

The Windows OEM license is linked to the original computer it is installed on and dies with the computer.
You cannot transfer it to another computer/laptop

If a retail Windows license, you can transfer it to another computer/laptop.
But it can only be installed on one computer at a time.

A single license is a single Installation.
