The Windows 7 Explorer stops responding

Almost every day my Win7 Explorer stops responding. I get a msg asking to find solution online and reboot. It's never a solution presented. The error seems to be random as there is no common denominator which seems to make it. Here is the message I get:

Found a box that prevents the bios to booting from anything other than the hard drive in the BIOS, under Security.  Stupid because it still allows you to change the order of boot without any error message.

Once I changed I could boot from the cd and fix corrupted files.

    Hello, Connor

You can try to perform a system restore to before that the problem started. For instructions on how to proceed, see the following ink: System Restore: frequently asked questions

You can also try running a SFC scan to check (and repair) system corrupt/modified files. To do this, go to start, all programs, accessories, click with the right button on command prompt and choose Run as administrator. In the command prompt, type the following command and press ENTER: SFC/scannow

  • The Windows 7 Explorer reads 4096 bytes of files with FILE_ATTRIBUTE_OFFLINE

    Hi all!

After installation: Windows 7 as an SMB client. Plan sharing SMB like, say, Z: and use the Windows 7 Explorer to browse a directory in the share. It looks like Windows Explorer bed the first each file 4096 bytes, even files that have the FILE_ATTRIBUTE_OFFLINE set (these files have the attribute set "O").

My understanding of FILE_ATTRIBUTE_OFFLINE is that the file is not available immediately, for example, because it is stored in a hierarchical storage management system and read on this file may result in access to, say, bands. Of course, you don't want to trigger several tape media, just because you browse a directory.

So my question is: is it considered "working as intended" that Windows 7 Explorer reads the first 4096 bytes of each file (especially those who have defined FILE_ATTRIBUTE_OFFLINE) when I browse a directory (at least if I browse it for the first time) or should Explorer honor FILE_ATTRIBUTE_OFFLINE and not read these files?

If Explorer works as expected, is there a way to change this behavior?

    Best regards, Dirk

  • Windows Explorer stops responding when you access file downloads

I'm having a problem with the Windows Explorer does not when I try to access the downloads folder. The problem seems related to a file, a Java .exe file I downloaded. Explorer hangs up as soon as I try to do something with this file, I can't even remove it. I got out the folder other files in desktop and using research and move the file, but when I try to do something with this file, Explorer crashes again.

No video file in the folder, the file problem seemed to be a Java update file. I managed to remove using an third-party uninstall program, and the problem seems to have disappeared. My best guess is that the update program has been altered during the download.

  • Running the version of the Windows XP Explorer in Vista

I would like to use the version of the Windows Explorer in XP to Vista. It was much simpler sort files into folders by creation date, size, etc.

    Hello wwolverton,

Thank you for visiting the website of Microsoft Windows Vista Community.

Try after step in this article there is an option

Using the files in the Panel Options, you can change how work your files and folders, as well as the display of the content in your folders.

Open the Options folder by clicking the Start button, clicking Control Panel, appearance and personalization, and then clicking Folder Options.

Change the mode of display folders

You can change the way your folders look and strive to meet your needs. For example, you can open all files and folders with a single click (for example, links in a Web page) instead of the usual double-click. Here is an overview of the settings that you can change:

    TO

    To do this

Apply the settings of the current view (for example, list, details, or large icons) to all folders on your computer that are the same type as the folder that you have currently open. (Documents and details of the music are examples of file types).

In the file that is currently open, click on organize on the toolbar and then click folder and Search Options.

In Folder Options, click the view tab, and then click on apply to records. (To switch these folders back to their)

settings by default, click Reset Folders)

Turn off the preview pane and the details pane in all folders. This setting gives you more space to view the files by hiding the components that you do not have.

Click the general tab and then click on use Windows classic folders. (To re-enable the components, click filters and preview.)

Open each new folder in its own folder window. This can be handy if you want to keep all the files you are working on the screen at the same time.

Click the general tab and then click on open each folder in its own window. (To make each new folder replace the previous folder window, click on open each folder in the same window.)

Open an item with one click. Use this setting if you want the files and folders to open with a single click, just like links on a Web page.

Click the general tab, and then click single-click to open an item. (To return to the standard click, click double-click to open an item.)

To restore the behavior of origin of your files, click the general tab, and then click default settings.

    Top of page

Change advanced file and folder settings

You can make additional changes to the appearance and behavior of your files and folders using the Folder Options Advanced settings in Control Panel. Here is an overview of the settings advanced you can change:

    TO

    To do this

Always show icons never previews and static files thumbnails of the files. Use this setting if thumbnail previews are slowing down your computer. You will get better performance by using static icons.

Click the view tab, and select the always show icons, never thumbnails check box.

Always show menus above the toolbar. Use this setting if you prefer to have access to the classic menus, which are hidden by default.

Click the view tab and check the box always display menus.

See the size of a folder in a ToolTip when you hover your mouse over the folder. Use this setting so frequently, you must know the total size of the contents of a folder and like to see this information to leave the mouse on the file pointer.

Click the view tab, and select the file size information in folder tips check box.

See the files and folders as hidden. Use this setting if you work with files that are usually hidden from view, such as user files that have been marked as hidden.

Click the view tab, and then click Show hidden files and folders. For more information, see Show hidden files.

See the files with lines that connect folders and subfolders.

Click the view tab and clear the display simple folder view in the control box for the Navigation pane.

See the extensions of filename in file names. It's a good way to ensure that the files are not

malicious software disguised as common files.

See all the system files that are usually hidden from view.

Click on the view tab, and then clear the Hide protected operating system files check box.

Increase the stability of Windows by opening every folder in a separate part of memory. Use this setting if your computer breaks down often, and you try to minimize the problems or solve problems. Be aware, however, that this could slow down the performance of your computer.

Click the view tab and select the launch windows folder in a process separate checkbox.

Ignore the custom of each folder view settings and open all files by using the default settings in place. Use this setting to force all files to stop using the display settings that you specified.

Click the view tab, and then clear the save view settings to check each folder.

Click the view tab and select restore them windows files to the logon box.

Hide the drive letter of each drive or device in the computer folder. Use this setting if you do not want to see the drive letters on your computer and would prefer to see only the friendly name of each drive.

Click the view tab, and then clear the show drive letters check box.

    Display

    encrypted or

NTFS compressed files as ordinary files, without any unique color coding to identify them. Use this setting if you have encrypted or compressed

NTFS files and do not want to see them represented differently than other files on your computer.

Click on the tab view, and then clear the Show encrypted or compressed NTFS in the color box.

Disable the ToolTips that appear when you hover your mouse over the files. Use this setting if you do not want to see the file information that appear in ToolTips when you move the pointer over files and folders.

Click the view tab and clear descriptions see the pop-up for the folder and the items on the desktop check box.

Never show the contents of the files in the preview pane. Use this setting to improve the performance of your computer, or if you do not use the preview pane.

Click the view tab and clear the show preview handlers in preview pane check box.

Add checkboxes for views of file to make it easier to select several files at once, which can be useful if it is difficult for you to hold down the CTRL key while clicking to select multiple files.

Click the view tab and select the checkboxes use to select the objects check box.

To restore the behavior of origin of your advanced settings, click the view tab, and then click default settings.

  • Game type "not specified" remove the Windows 7 Explorer game.

I've seen several forums around this subject, but none of them does not solve my problem.  I have a file in my Games Explorer classified as a type of file "not specified."  I went through several records, including "C:/users / AppData/local/Microsoft/Windows/Game Explorer' and 'C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\GameExplorer' that do not contain the file I want to delete.  Nothing comes up when I right click on icon, either.

I found a forum with a link which has been said to have the solution, but the page just says "Service unavailable" page was:

    http://www.SevenForums.com/tutorials/42496-Games-Explorer-folder-delete-game.html

If anyone happens to recognize this URL, it would be great if you could tell me what he said, except that I'm open to suggestions on other ways to get rid of this icon.

System Restore solved the problem, I just had to try several times until I got just restore point where the icon has disappeared, but it didn't remove all the others either.  Now the icons under the tabs of Internet Explore are all screwed up (icons wrong showing upwards to the wrong sites), but I suspect that will disappear in time, otherwise I can reinstall IE.

  • the Windows Firewall has stopped working

I tried the system restore to just before it stopped working

    Hi geoffrey,.

System restore would have been my first suggestion, so that was an excellent choice on your part.  I would try it again maybe a few days earlier just to be safe, he did not start before you really notice or before, it became clear, as it is certainly the simplest answer, but frankly, I doubt that it will be more effective (but who knows - he can come back works perfectly and we are both happy, it was considered).  He also suggested that you know a little about computers, so I can provide instructions that contain everything you need but I will not go into nauseous detail unless you get stuck on a step and then you should post any problem you encounter and I will provide more help.  If you should post, don't forget to answer as many questions and include both the results of the proceedings or reports or copies or screenshots of screen that you can at the same time, so we can work on what to do then if none of this made the turn.

How do you know if what she has stopped working?  Do you have an error message (if so, what was the full and exact message Word for Word, including all codes)?  You have more than one firewall installed on your system (like that which is part of Norton Internet Security, Comodo, or something else)?  What security programs do you use and that you have installed (all names and versions)?  What version of Windows you are using (for example, 32-bit Vista Business SP2 or other - please be precise otherwise)?  When this occurred and did you a software or a hardware changes (additions, deletions, upgrades or anything like that) since two weeks before the problem (if so, precisely what has been done in as much detail as possible)?

Do you get this Center security or firewall Windows itself?  If you are using XP, post back with answers given that there is a limit to the options how can I cover without knowing the basic information.  If you use Vista or W7, go to Security Center or action center and check to see if there is a problem with the notification of the firewall or it's on.  If it's not on, it shows the details or links containing information about the problem?  If Yes, go to these links and copy the information and post here, so we can look at.

Then go into firewall Windows itself (on the left side of the screen) and confirm that there is a problem.  If she too says it is disabled, click on change settings.  Make sure the firewall is turned on - if not turn it on, click on apply and then click OK and confirm that it starts and begins to work.  If it does not start, it provides an error message (If Yes, what is completely and exactly Word for Word with all codes)?  Click Advanced, and verify that all network connections are checked - make if all are not and click OK, then again try to turn on the firewall.

If this does not work, go to start / Control Panel / Administrative Tools / Services and then highlight the Windows Firewall and click Open.  Click dependencies and go to each of them and make sure they are started and automatic.  Otherwise change it to automatic and start them.  If it is impossible to do, check their dependencies and do the same until you reach the end of the chain of dependence.  Now return to Windows Firewall and make sure that it is set to automatic and started.  Then restart.  When the system returns, return to the service and confirm that the Windows Firewall is started and automatic.

Now, go into Windows Firewall and again try to launch and see if it lights.  Go to the center of security or Action and check that the firewall is enabled and works.  If so, the problem can be solved.  Just to be sure, restart and check the firewall to ensure that it is on and working.  If so, who should be the one.  But we do not know why it stopped, and if the problem may come back, then we must redouble efforts to find the cause or confirm that there is no problem.  Moreover, if the above did not work and Windows Firewall is still off, here's what you should do in any case.

Go to start / Control Panel / administrative tools / Event Viewer and look for error messages regarding the Windows Firewall (there will be errors).  Look in system first and then in Applications.  When you find the error or errors, click on it for details, copy these details and display them in your next reply.  Well, they can help us identify the source of the problem and there a fix for it.

We will check your system and hard disk for corruption files and try to fix it:

Go to start / all programs / accessories / command prompt and right click on command prompt, and then click Run as administrator.

, Type sfc/scannow go and let it run.  It will scan and try to the difficulty of some of your system files.  If all goes well he comes complete with no corruption, it could not repair (if it has these post of corruption here or try to analyze it to find the problem or files using http://support.microsoft.com/kb/928228.

While in the command prompt, type chkdsk /f /r and enter and let it run.  They tried to set itself to run at the next reboot.   Answer Yes and restart to run the program.  It will scan and attempt to resolve any corruption or bad sectors on your hard drive and remove especially as a potential cause.

Then, we will confirm this is not caused by a malware any.

Update and run a full scan with no matter what security software you use, and remove or quarantine everything you find.

First, try the following programs if you do not, because they can help. I recommend you download, install, update and run full scans with Malwarebytes:http://www.malwarebytes.org/ and SuperAntiSpyware:http://superantispyware.com/ and then run a full scan of Microsoft Security:http://www.microsoft.com/security/default.aspx. This may or may not remove the infections, but will probably not correct the damage caused by them. Even if they or your current AV software seem to work or indicate that you are not infected, you should not completely trust in them and must continue with the recommendations that follow (so it's up to you if you want to try them first, or just ignore all this and get help from an expert you really need as described below).

Correctly and completely remove these infections can be complex and often require manual removal procedures (which may or may not be entirely effective either). Even if they work, I suggest what follows in any case, so that we can start it (you can ignore the methods above if you want it really is the way forward, but it won't hurt to them for trying).
