There's a scam of telemarketing targeting the user windows in New Zealand at the moment.

The scam goes like this:

The scammer calls the person (and I guess by the time difference and the thick accent Middle East they call from somewhere near the India) and claims to be a representative of microsoft. They then say that your computer has a virus very serious, and they need access to your computer and fix it. Then, they will guide you to the remote assistance tool and take manual control there. Thanks to this they access bank accounts and steal the money.

I know at least two people who have fallen for her, which was my 86 year old grandfather. They have also tried to bring my 9 year-old brother to do so. These people would and do steal pensioners and children. I get a call at least two every three days. So far, the only thing I could do to them is put them on hold for 3 hours while I "tried to turn on my computer. They pointed out several times to the police and the agencies, antiscam in New Zealand, but it doesn't seem to do anything... What I'm asking is that there is nothing I can do about it? Anywhere I can report to MS?

Fake phone calls to technical support

Calls unrequested telephone of this nature are almost always a common scam. Do not let them give any info, do not give access to your PC, not give them all the money and do not go to all the websites that they suggest. One moment.

Please see:

http://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/security/online-privacy/msname.aspx .

Microsoft issues never not solicited for phone calls of support or security.

These types of callers can use completely fictitious names or bogusly claim to be of real companies other than Microsoft as well.

Microsoft is aware of such scams. Your best defense is to know - tell your friends and your family.
