Think of the GPU for Alienware M17x R4 upgrade

Hello

I plan to upgrade the GPU on my Alienware m17x R4. Currently I have a Nvidia Geforce GTX 660 m, but I'm looking to possibly go to the 680 (or perhaps a more powerful if there is one for Nvidia cards).

I just had a few things I want to clarify before committing to anything whatsoever. First of all, my warranty would allow me to upgrade this component or it would be zero if I did (I heard various things about it, especially as you can, but depending on your region for the most part. I live in England and I think I'm ok but just want to double check).

Second, so far, I'm having little luck finding graphics cards for laptops for sale online. I was able to contact dell about buying one of them directly (If Yes, who is better to ask?) or are there other places I look for them?

Thank you very much in advance guys!

Bobby

Hi Bobby,.

The 680 m from NVIDIA is one of the good GPU right now. The warranty on the computer will stay as it is except the video card replaced (a video card will get a separate guarantee which is quoted at the time of purchase).

You can message NataliaatAW or use the link below to contact Dell UK. They can help you in the purchase of GPU:

  • Replacement of the GPU for 2012 m17x R4

    Hello

Theres a ton of messages on GPU updates for the R4 m17x but seeing that the machine is so if old now, I don't know what cards are still manufactured that will be compatible is also in Australia, I don't know if this whats available effects or even if this is the right place for this post.

Currently, the system runs on the processor i7-3610QM at 2.30 GHz with the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 675 M, seems to graphics card however need to replace like theres something wrong with it that forces the system to screen blue or just completely closed and he only does when the graphics card is enabled.

So my question is, what graphics cards can it be replaced by?

    Thank you.

Before I suggest upgrades, can especially point out the temperature of your laptop and the GPU? I wonder if the laptop itself is not too hot (it happens if you don't make any periodical maintenance).

Regarding updates, upgrades Alienware-tested are the following.

    • HD 7970 m

    Community-tested upgrades are as follows.

    • 700 m series GTX, GTX 870 m, GTX 880 m and GTX 965 m GTX 980 m.

  • Sounds coming from my headphones and speakers at the same time - Alienware M17x R4

When I do something on my laptop where noise is involved ( play games , play music , etc. etc. ) and I have ear plugs / headphones inserted , the sound is coming out of both my speakers and my headset.I do not know how long I already have the problem, I discovered it today when I took my headphones off for a moment.

Do any of you know how I can fix this? So that if I insert my headphones , the sound just goes through the headphones and not through the speakers at the same time. I Googled for a while now but I cant find a way to solve it. (Im not a PCs / laptops expert)

Hello. Please post your problem again, because half of your text has been cut. You may need to type it instead of paste.

Try to switch to the native Windows audio driver.

    1. open Device Manager (found in the Control Panel, or type devmgmt.msc in the search box).
    2. develop the 'audio controllers, video & game' and right click on the Creative Labs Recon pilot.
3 Select this option to "Update driver software".
    4. click on "Browse my computer for driver software".
    5. click on "Let Me pick from a list of drivers on my computer".
    6. put the "Show compatible hardware" check box if not already checked.
    7. in the list of devices, click on 'High Definition Audio"(native driver).
    8. click on "next".
    9. in the update driver warning box, click 'Yes' (the driver).
10 restart the portable computer if you are prompted. If not invited, so no need to restart.
[To return to the Recon pilot, do it again but reverse steps 2-7 names].

If you have only the symptoms with one of the drivers, then the other is at fault. If you have the same symptoms with two audio drivers, then it is likely not a driver problem, maybe material.

  • By using the GPU for rendering? Get makes it faster?

I'm trying to export a 20 min video I've done in After Effects. It has a few effects of particles and some effects of Audio spectrum. When I start a Render, it shows between 20 to 30 hours to complete. If I had several machines I would have no problem with that, but I did not.

I tried most of the suggestions in the forums to try and speed up the rendering time:

    Untitled-1.jpg

    • Clasic made instead of Ray traced
    • Removed unused and sequences pre comps
    • Reduced the number of effects
    • reduced the number of precomps
    • reduced the number of expressions
    • Rendering with CUDA
    • Disabled motion blur
    • Disabilities to 3D layers.

Still, I can't take the shortest rendering time. I also tried various rendering parameters:

    • YouTube 1080 p
    • Youtube720p
    • QuickTime animation
    • Lossless
    • JPEG sequence

with no major difference (youtube 1080 p being the best)

I noticed that the SOUL does not all the power he could. It uses around 50% of CPU, but I read that may be because it doesn't have time to ramp upward before arriving at another framework.

I also notice that even using CUDA acceleration, SOUL does not use power of the GPU at ALL. I have two GTX780 and I'm sure that if it was their use he would accelerate a lot, but I don't know if we can use them and if possible I don't know how to activate it.

If you are looking for any other suggestions to speed up my rendering, or instructions for making SOUL use my GPU

    Data sheet:

    • I7 - 4790K
    • 32 GB of RAM
    • 2 x GTX780

The GPU is not rendered 99% of everything that AE. If you use the TEA to render a model of EI then AE works in the background so SOUL must leave a few resources for do you other things. With the help of SOUL is always slower rendering with the Render tail if you go to the same format, but for most of us is not a problem because we don't sit and wait for makes, work us on the next shot or move on to another project. That's the beauty of the SOUL, must never stop creating - things, you get paid for.  If it's a rush to get out the project will restore then with making Cue of EI for a codec made fast production and then run through the SOUL SOUL being much more efficient and faster video transcoding in another format.

As far as general things AE goes, temporal effects are taking the most time to render, particles also take a long time to render. Drawn to the beam with acceleration CUDA only is absolutely not supported in SOUL even if you have a correctly configured NVIDIA GPU. I know not all professionals that use drawn with RADIUS one rendered for anything whatsoever. There are much better solutions even without 3rd party effects.

I hope this helps. The best way to get something out of the door is to make a standard production format by using the mark to return and a quick to render format ensuring that you use the formats of standard production for all of your belongings in the Ant project that are all of the images used in your publication to scale to 100% at some point in your comp (a lot of people try to make photo slideshows in HD with 20 images of a DSLR MP and all of them are resized way down). Once you have your master of standard production format that fall into the SOUL to generate your deliverables.

Currently AE will not use 100% of your system resources when rendering HD or even 4 K video because AE watch only 1 frame at a time and any modern processor can easily treat an image using a fraction of its power. Then, we need to calculate everything again. Certain effects will use more memory a temporal effects and particles can quickly fill the memory, but until the basic architecture of the AE render engine is completely revamped we're stuck with makes it slow.

Just FYI a little... Many of my composite complex can take 1 or 2 minutes per image for rendering. Some have taken 5 or 6 minutes. My 'pencil tests' or movement work almost always with little or no effects just to check the appearance of the animation. I call them pencil tests, test the hosts traditional photo pencil sketches to check the action and blocking before sending frames out to ink and paint because it makes no sense to paint on a stage where you don't know if Bambi walks funny because you didn't run a pencil and ink. In any case, my 'pencil tests' or previews make usually about 7 to 10 frames per second. It's the range of my work. Most production companies who are trying to earn a living do effects and editing have a fairly strict set of standards for travel times. Only, they conceive their work to fit into this mold.

  • How to use the GPU for the AMD over-pants D500 in Mac pro 2013

I install the first CC 2015 Pro and After Effect CC 2015 to 2013 with the graphics card AMD over-pants D500 Pro Mac, I can set GPU rendering in Premiere Pro, but impossible to define in the After Effect, only can use the CPU in the preview of the setting, how can I do?

AE uses only a few NVIDIA CUDA enabled cards to speed up rendering drawn with RADIUS. This feature never quite worked, with disabilities masks and effects on layers 3D, and NVIDIA has changed the direction of their development of this technology for the Ray-traced rendering feature is is more developed by Adobe. They are working on another technology to use the GPU, but it is not yet available. There is nothing you can do to enable the GPU acceleration, unless you have a compatible NVIDIA card.

  • Alienware m17x r3 upgrade to 3d and gtx 660 m

I spent the entire monitor in 3d monitor 50 spindles with 3d transmitter, has added a new motherboard, the DVD Blu - Ray, the graphics card reader of 660 m GTX. I rewrote the NVDM.inf file to include the identification number of the 660 card hardware m which was 0FD4 04901028 and I got the software Nvidia go until it loads the graphics. How he constantly fails any version I try. Any help on this?

I was going to Flash the 660 m for the unlocked version Dell Overclocking, but I can't get the graphics to load regardless of the version.

I learned that this new configuration was fully compatible with the new Board of Directors and the material. I guess it's not as user-friendly as it was supposed to be. I read about 400 pages of text about the ease, it is after you have passed the compatibility test. Unfortunately, I do it all the way to the installation of the graphics before it fails.

    Hello

The Nvidia Geforce 660 M is not a GPU upgrade option validated for the Alienware M17x R3 system. Therefore, we cannot confirm if this should work fine with this system. To display the GPU upgrade options validated for this system, see Chris's response on this thread.

  • How to change the GPU for notebook Alienware?

I bought an Alienware Laptop since 12/2014. It has the Nvidia GTX860m 2 GB. Can I change? Because now it looks a little too old for the newest games.

Any updates for your laptop is not void the warranty. It just will not be covered by the warranty.

Here's the Alienware tested GPU you can upgrade.

    • GTX 770 m
    • GTX 780 m
    • R9 m290x
    • GTX 880 m

Here are some community tested GPU that requires more than a simple swap-and-play.

    • GTX 970 m
    • GTX 980 m

I suggest go at notebookreview forum if you are considering getting a series of 900 m GTX GPU. The full manual, found on the Dell support site, gives you detailed instructions on concealment and re-Assembly of the laptop. No need to contact Dell.
