  When you want to leave your laptop using FN + F1 and lock it.

  Just so I'm clear, updated you the graphics cards in Device Manager? You have access to a Windows XP installation disc. If so, follow the steps in this document to make a scan of the SFC. This analysis will attempt to repair or replace any missing or corrupted system files.

Programs cannot do any real work, but are cycling through their operations individual enough to keep the computer "awake".

  Try to start your computer with a "clean boot", (see Microsoft Support articles below). If this resolves the issue and you definitely want your screen saver, you'll have to discern what substantive programs and services that you can live without being active all the time, and turn them off.

  For what it's worth, the systems that I watched recently with this problem were 'smart phone' synchronization software recently installed and who is constantly looking for something to synchronize with regardles to know if they are connected to what whether or not.   I suggest that you perform a clean boot and check.

  To help resolve the error and other messages, you can start Windows Vista by using a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. This type of boot is known as a "clean boot". A clean boot helps eliminate software conflicts.
