ThinkPad E420s no way click

Hello, I have recently upgraded to windows 8, and since then, I can't configure the Middle trackpoint button to do a middle click on more.

The use of the driver lenovo ultranav (Synpaptics 16.2.19.2), when I click on settings Trackpoint, there is no settings to configure the three buttons at all, the only thing that can be set is the sensitivity of stick.

I've updated for the generic synaptics (16.2.21) drivers and now has options to set the middle button, but when I put it in the Middle click, it does nothing! I can set the action of the Center button what other Middle-click and it works, but no way click

Also, I should mention, using this new driver if I set one action of touchpad to do a middle click, as a finger 2 click or otherwise, it does nothing.

It's like the Middle click is not recognized. But I also wonder why this parameter is absent in the driver of lenovo?

Fixed to completely uninstall and reinstall generic synaptics driver

  • Replacing the fan ThinkPad E420s

    Hi all

In my ThinkPad E420s, fan is not very effective, even after I cleaned it.

I would like to replace it. However, I have a hard time to find.

First of all, I don't know what FRU number.

I found a possible next option here http://support.lenovo.com/us/en/documents/pd010926

    04W2000
    04W2001
    04W1749
    04W1750

However, how can I find what exact FRU number I need.

Second, where to buy? These 4 numbers http://www.lenovospareparts.com/ http://lenovoquickpick.com/ quick search gave no results.

I would be grateful for any guidance.

    Thank you!

    Hi Mihalych,

    Thanks for the reply!

If the system is supplied with the graphics card, you can order 04W2000, 04W2001 if the system has only Intel graphics, then you can order 04W1749, 04W1750.

    I hope this helps!

  • ThinkPad E420 - what is the type of this laptop SATA interface? Is this 2 SATA or SATA 3?

    Dear all,

What is the type of interface SATA of ThinkPad E420? Is this 3 SATA or SATA 2?

I noticed that this laptop hard drive transfer rate is 3 Gb/s, which means that it is a SATA 2 HARD drive, isn't it? It also means that the laptop SATA interface is SATA 2?

I tried searching the support site and product from lenovo for this information, but I can't.

    Thanks in advance.

    Best regards

    Haris

    You're right, the E420 is SATA2.

SATA3 is very rare in the laptops!

    Hi Syed,

Thanks for the reply with the status of the issue.

I suggest you try to install the drivers for Windows 7 in compatibility mode and check if it works for you. I saw this troubleshooting procedure described working for other members of the community.

Step 1: Download the driver for the Webcam from this link of Lenovo.

    http://support.Lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?docid=DS015018

Step 2: Installing the driver in compatibility mode.

Make the programs more compatible with this version of Windows:

  • Problem Bluetooth ThinkPad E420 (1141-DDD)

I'm having a problem installing bluetooth driver for this model... in the middle of the installation, I get the error msg "no Bluetooth device detected. I installed this driver I found in the Lenovo Web site: 'Bluetooth with enhance Data Rate software II' worm 6.4.0.2900 from this link:
    http://support.Lenovo.com/en_US/research/hints-or-tips/detail.page?&LegacyDocID=MIGR-77467 I use Windows 7 64-bit.
    Please advise on this.

    HI Jaymaharaj

I faced the same problem. After struggling for almost a day or two, I found the following solution.

He is also right to what Dave says. But your question, it seems that you experience the problem when you install the bluetooth driver software.

Before installing the software driver bluetooth please download and install "ThinkVantage System Update" from the following link: (choose your operating system and click Download)

    http://support.Lenovo.com/en_US/detail.page?LegacyDocID=MIGR-73695

Installation above will reboot your machine two or three times. After installing above update, press F9, which will list the wireless radios, click on the button of the individual controls you will find a switch logic to enable bluetooth, so put in market.

After that start your bluetooth driver is 'Bluetooth with enhance Data Rate software II' installation. I'm sure it'll work. If you face any problem post a response to this topic.

    Thank you

Have you tried to use system restore to restore your system configuration?

Start menu > Accessories > system tools > system restore.

I hope you have some system restore points before the problem started happening. Follow the wizard for your anti-roll system back to one of these restore points.

System restore only modifies / restores the system configuration - this will not affect your personal files/data.

So if the problem started to arrive 2-3 days ago, come back to a point of restoration 4 days ago.

  • ThinkPad E420 - GPU switching

Hello I have just updated my records for AMD Radeon HD6630M with new catalyst beta2 but now I can't change the graphics card. I tried to go to CCC - selected manually switchable graphic method switch GPU pressed apply and nothing happened. At least I tried to uninstall this old CCC isntal and tried again. Problem remains intact, and now I'm sad of this because my games is now unnecessary . I can just select which GPU I want for aplications but its bad cause my fps dropped. I realize before windows mark with random maps for switching applications is just 6.3 for games and 4.9 for other stuff. Before I 6.7 for both because I have chosen the AMD GPU forever.

If someone help me to pass the cards he can be happy. Sorry for my English and thanks for the useful information.

Fixed, downloaded new drivers from lenovo and now its works very well.

  • E420 - SATA driver for Windows XP

    Hello

I installed Windows XP x 64 on my Thinkpad E420 a few months ago.  Get the operating system to work with 64-bit drivers was a major pain, but I finally got it to work.

Yesterday, as XP x 64 became slower and slower, I uninstalled and installed the 32 bit instead (being fully aware that I won't be able to use my 8 GB, only 2.8.  Will not not to do a lot of school work on XP anyway).

I was hoping that I would have finally managed to install the SATA driver, but no.

It's quite annoying to start the BIOS and change the drive mode from AHCI to compatibility every time I start Windows XP (and the reverse for Windows 7, too).

First, I installed the chipset driver Intel here:

    http://support.Lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?docid=DS013906

Then the video driver and tried to install the AHCI support problematic:

    http://support.Lenovo.com/en_US/downloads/detail.page?docid=DS014061

[Windows XP] (without floppy drive attached)
      1. Enable Compatibility mode in BIOS setup.
a.Press F1 during power up before entering Windows
b.Go to Config tab, and select "Serial ATA (SATA)" and press enter.
c.choose "Compatibility" mode, and press F10 to save and exit.
      2. Install Windows XP and Service Pack 3.
      3. Start Windows XP and logon with administrative privileges.
      4. Right-click My Computer, then click Properties
      5. Click the Hardware tab
      6. Click Device Manager
      7. Expand the IDE ATA/ATAPI controllers category.
      8. Right-click "Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller"
and then select Update Driver Software.
      9. Select "No, not this time" and click "Next".
     10. Select "Install from a list or specific location".
     11. Click "Next" button.
     12. Select "Don't search. I will choose the driver to install".
     13. Click "Next" button.
     14. Select "Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller" and click "Next" button.
     15. Click "Finish" button and click "Yes" button to restart system.
     16. After system stable, Click Start, then click Control Panel.
     17. Perform steps 4 to 12...
     18. Click "Hard Disk" button.
     19. Click "Browse...", then locate the extracted driver folder
and select the driver INF file, iaAHCI.inf.
     20. Click "Open", and then click "OK" button.
     21. At this point you should be presented with a selection and highlight
"Intel(R) 5 Series 4 Port SATA AHCI Controller"
"Intel(R) 5 Series 6 Port SATA AHCI Controller"

         "Intel(R) ICH9R/DO/DH SATA AHCI Controller"
"Intel(R) Mobile Express Chipset SATA AHCI Controller"
         and you should select
"Intel(R) Mobile Express Chipset SATA AHCI Controller"
     22. Click "Next" button, and th driver installation should start.
     23. An Update Driver Warning windows will appear, just click "Yes" to continue.
     24. Click "Finish" button when the installation is completed.
     25. When prompted for restart, Click "Yes".
     26. Enable AHCI mode in BIOS setup.
a.Press F1 during power up before entering Windows
b.Go to Config tab, and select "Serial ATA (SATA)" and press enter.
c.choose "AHCI" mode, and press F10 to save and exit.

I can't use a floppy drive, and the main problem is that I did not "Standard dual channel PCI IDE Controller" in my device manager.  Only this (sorry for the French):

    http://ImageShack.us/photo/my-images/13/devicebk.PNG/

I tried selecting the first choice (primary IDE channel), but I get a BSOD.

What should I choose, instead?  I'm doing something wrong?

    Thank you very much!

    I have it!

It was actually very simple to install, in fact.

I reinstalled the operating system, and what is important, it is necessary to install the SATA driver immediately after installing Windows XP.

The problem is that I installed the Intel chipset driver first...  Of course, that has caused the problem.  The SATA driver must be the first driver to install.

    Simple as that!

  • CTRL + left click is not always the same as the Middle-click

CTRL-click is supposed to open a new tab, but this does not always happen. For example in a YouTube channel, a video in the sidebar (or right-clicking and selecting new tab) Middle-click opens the video in a new tab, but ctrl-click opens in the current tab. Y at - it a fix for this?

How can I turn off text to speech that I turned it on to listen to the voice and now there seems to be no way to turn it off

    Hello

Follow the steps below to disable text to speech in Windows Vista.

    (a) go to the section on your main screen where you see the time displayed.

    (b) it is called the "bar", all kinds of small icons are visible here, there's even a gadget of the small arrow that would normally point to the right if you have a lot of programmes to help you use windows.

    (c) "left click on"the small arrow in a circle - this will expand the list to display small icons, drip slowly mouse over the bar of 'system' in order to launch a pop - up of each icon, once you reach the icon that says something like "text to speech tool","make a clique right".

    (d) a pop-up list appears showing what options are available - option whatever go to "Properties" or "settings", "click on" this element gives.

    (e) a new Panel will appear - in select here the article that says something like "launch on startup", it should have a box next to it, that will be ticked or marked in some way - "click" this element so that it seems to be clear and followed by the button "apply" "click" the button "OK" - which should solve your problem.
