• Get-view do not show anything for some servers

  One of my colleagues has created a script to extract some VM PCI slot numbers the script seems simple like this and work for (most) servers.

  It worked before, but since a few days on 3 virtual machines which are one of the 6 we want to check returns no results more. All 3 VM is connected to the same vCenter, while others are connected to another. Knowing this, we'll try another VM in the vCenter (defective)... .strange return these results...

  On a defective VM, I note that:

  $AllSasControllers is filled with the results

  But the slotinfo property is empty, so far I can only see this behavior on 3 virtual machines that worked fine before.

  We did a few add/remove disk shares a few weeks on all VM 6 on the two vCenters. (may be a clue)

  One has obtained clues where to look?

  After a restart of vCenter problem seems to have disappeared, requires that certain inconsistencies of data or something.

• Using POS for physical servers

  I'm looking for details on the features of backup of POS for physical servers.

  VMWare documentation indicates application agents support support for physical backup SQL, Exchange, and Sharepoint servers.  I'm trying to know if POS can also get a filesystem backup for file servers and other applications that are not SQL, Exchange or Sharepoint.

  Can VDP save system files from one physical server?

  The documentation is correct. VIENNA can only backup physical systems using the SQL, stockbrokers & Sharepoint. It is not a way to back up a physical file using VIENNA server.

  Are you sure you want to say 'tablespace '? A tablespace is a collection of data files. It has nothing to do with the privileges of the object, object namespaces, etc. I'm guessing that you mean that you have two schemas, OBITUARIESCS and ADVERTISEMENTCS. A schema is a collection of objects of database belonged to a particular user. A single table can exist in spaces of multiple tables (assuming it is partitioned). Different schemas can have an infinite number of tables with the same name in the same table. The database schema is the namespace for objects such as tables.

  Assuming that you have two schemas in your database, you can create a table of COUNTRIES in the OBITUARIESCS schema. You can then grant SELECT access on the table to another user, ADVERTISEMENTCS, i.e.

  GRANT SELECT ON country TO advertisementcs
  

  You can then ask questions (but not change) the COUNTRY code of the property of ADVERTISEMENTCS table

  SELECT *
    FROM advertisementcs.country
  

  If you want to be able to remove the prefix in the schema, you can create a synonym. In the ADVERTISEMENTCS schema

  Go to edelivery.oracle.com and download the main license file. It is not specific machine. Oracle has a different idea when it comes to licensing, they trust you to use the features that you have paid and not others. Of course if you get audited and use another fieatures, I'm sure that you'll pay big for it.

  You can change the call to the scope to include only the specific virtual machines.

  You can test this concept in the Script Console, using the query line.  Don't forget that everything is case-sensitive.

  First, enter VMWVirtualMachine , and then select query.  You should see all your virtual machines

  Then, enter VMWVirtualMachine where name like '% ServerX' and you should get only back the corresponding VMs.  You can extend this to help where and not built.  for example VMWVirtualMachine where (name like name like '% ServerY' or 'ServerX %') once you're comfortable with that, we can take the step 2.  The '%' is a wildcard character, corresponding to a number any character.

  Now, let's take a look on your particular case, which is a little more complicated, because the name of the virtual machine is not directly part of the object VMWVirtualMachineLogicalDisk .

  We need to start with VMWVirtualMachineLogicalDisk as our base and then extend it.

  Still in Script Editor, enter VMWVirtualMachineLogicalDisk in the query line and select query.  You should see a large number of records of logical drive.  By selecting one of them and selecting the tab panel object below will show you some of the properties of this object.

  Then, enter VMWVirtualMachineLogicalDisk where name like '% C:' and select query.  You should see a small list, showing only C: drives.
  

  That's nice, but as the name property of the VMWVirtualMachineLogicalDisk object is the drive letter, not the name of the virtual machine, it does not help your case.

  The trick is to remember that these are objects, not rows in a table SQL.  And there's a handy article on the object called parentsmodel.  You can see by scrolling down through the selected properties of VMWVirtualMachineLogicalDisk , until you see relatives.  It is a link to the top of the object tree and can be used to select what need you.

  Enter VMWVirtualMachineLogicalDisk, where parents.name like "ServerX %", and you should see just logical drives for the selected virtual machine.  Again, you can build more complex criteria.  In addition, you should be aware that in certain types of objects, parents is not one, but a list of items (e.g. warehouses under the ESX hosts, where a data store can be a child of many ESX host.)  The query in this case would be built in a different way, to deal with several possible outcomes.

  OK, so now we are ready to make your new rule.  You NEVER want to change a standard rule, you should always copy rule, if necessary, the deactivation of the original.

  Copy rule VMW Virtual Machine, use of logical drive to a new rule and go to the tab of the rule definition.

  Under scope rule, you will see VMWVirtualMachineLogicalDisk in the largest area.  This can be entered in the menu dropdown just above him, but it can also be added to by typing directly into the larger area.

  Change the biggest box of VMWVirtualMachineLogicalDisk to VMWVirtualMachineLogicalDisk, where parents.name like '% ServerX' and test the scope of the rule with the little green check mark on the side.

  In green text, you shuold see that your scope has been changed to the desired list of virtual machines.

  So, sorry. I misunderstood.

  The CCM, you create a set of ports vm for each server in the unit. For this set of ports on ccm vm, you must create the list of hunting; include ports which will answer calls (exclude the ports used by the unit to dialout only (MWI, trap, AMS Notification)

  Create a second set of ports on the virtual machine with a different name. Repeat the above steps for the integration of the second unit.

  For all the integrations of the unit, you can use the same power MWI.

  I want to install a PPTP to my router and I wonder if it is possible to use windows multiple IAS servers on a Cisco router?

  The scenario is that I have more than one business using this PPTP connection and they all have their own advertising on their own VLAN, I would like the router to forward the authentication request containing the username and password for all IAS of Windows servers that I specify or go through them one at a time until it receives an awnser.

  Is this possible?

  This is not possible because if a radius server receives a user name, it will be simple rejection the user and send this response to the Cisco router. The radius Protocol is not throw or send any message to warn the router that the user is not present in its database.

  I know that with ACS that if a username has been sent with a special domain can proxy communication on the acs server and the Cisco router based on the user name.

• Time CPU Ready for terminal servers

  I just started a job last week and my first task is to examine the virtual infrastructure. The first thing that stood out to me was our Terminal Server cluster configuration. For example, we have an ESXi host (in this cluster) with 12 physical processors and 24 logical processors. This host ESXi as eight Terminal Server computers virtual running on it. Seven of these Terminal servers have 12vCPUs EACH! The other has 8 vCPUs. When I look each time loan of virtual machines on average CPU during the week, averages of these varied from 10% on the lower end to 13% on the high end. Again, I take vCenter Performance averages. The maximum rates are much higher than that. The ratio goes down to about 3.8 vCPUs each logical processor.

  I would like to know if this time there ready CPU seems high to someone else, and what have you seen that average delays in loan CPU in environments with Terminal servers of your VM? I know that the issue involved applications and environment everyone will be different, but I'm looking for a little guidance.

  I always raise an eyebrow, when someone mentions that they 'need' more than 2 vCPU on a server terminal server.
  RDS and Citrix servers receive scale vs scale up.  Multiple virtual machines with 2-4 vCPU and 8-12 GB of memory.  Of course, there is that of outliers but servers Citrix typical application has hit a sweet spot in the Gb 2 vCPU/8-12 range.

  3/1 the ratios are pretty typical.

  I would say between 5-10 is getting 'high' % RDY.  But it is really end user experience as well.  Users experience performance problems?  The usual causes of high allowances are a lack of understand how to properly change a virtual machine for the workload.  Often other problems are the root cause, but virtual memory and CPU are the easiest thing to just throw to solve the problem. Networking and storage for example are often the root causes.

  Other things, I'd be curious to know.

  • Did you by chance in a Resource Pool?
  • Are there limits to any CPU together on these virtual machines or you see no MLMTD % figures appearing for these virtual machines?
  • You see figures of the CSTP % for one of your virtual machines?

  I just took a peek at a sample of about 20 servers Citrix on one of our guests and we see % times of the RDY to .0x to the values of X 1.4.

  My suggestion would be to stop some VM, select hot and a sample group up to of 2vCPU and have users test performance while you keep a watchful eye on ESXtop.

  By default, the firewall for WIndows Server 2008 is configured to refuse sharing files and printer on the network.  By default Windows Server 2008 firewall is configured with the Windows Firewall running and file and printer sharing disabled.  This blocks the ICMP Echo Request packets used by the PING command. You can allow the server to respond to ping requests as follows:

  1. Disable the Windows Firewall on the Windows 2008 Server (not recommended) - or -
  2. Turn on file sharing and printer in the Windows Firewall Configuration settings
     1. Start > Control Panel > network and Intranet
     2. Under the title the Windows Firewall , click allow a program through Windows Firewall
     3. In the list of programs and ports, check the option printer sharing files and

• Backup plan for multiple servers ESX environment

  I'm looking for an automated process that can take pictures of my servers on an hourly basis and directly convert in ESX server.

  I love servewrs under Windows and Linux.

  Maybe I'm looking at this the wrong way b/c I am familiar with all VMWare products.

  But my main goal is to have shots at night and put them in ESX waiting to bring them back in line if necessary in a time of the disaster. But they should be powered off and replaced every day.

  The problem is not the tool. VMware Converter is the best tool for conversion, I know, but after hundreds of conversions, we can say that a conversion is not always "click and go".

  You CAN plan, but do not expect a result. PV2 process is possible but must be well thought out. Conversion depends more on the physical machine on the tool you are using.

  I was hoping you could help me with a best practice. I did a lot of research on this and there are mixed responses. I'm looking for practical advice. I understand what is needed when a DC AD PDC must be virtualized (registry nosync option, vmtools, etc.). What everyone in the AD domain? They sync using VMTools if your ESX hosts use the same domain controller as an NTP server that would be to use your normal Windows machines? Or just use Windows synchronize the time on your AD VM Member anything? Thank you in advance.

  We have a facility large enough vmware with hundreds of virtual machines in our field. All Member servers synchronize time domain and not by the vmware tools. It worked

  no problem for us. The PDC synchronize time from an external time source. time synchronization tools VMware is not used on any of our virtual machines.
