ThinkServer Tower TS200 HDD capacity?

Hello

We have a file server running on the TS200 (652516U) Thinkserver Tower, BIOS GYEL29AUS - 1.02 (23/11/2009). I want to upgrade hard drives, currently 1 TB. I searched everywhere for an answer online, but nothing helped. The motherboard of that server can support hard drives 2 to-3? Ideally, I would like to 3 TB drives.

All the tips are greatly appreciated.

PS: This is the server. The manuals to show only the 1 TB drive in the list of replaceable parts

@rsaulnier: thank you very much for your answer. I think I'll just to test it.

I want to install a new HDD for my Satellite M40X.

I tried using a 160 GB HARD drive, I copied the partitions, but the HARD drive does not start... I copied the C partition to check the copy procedure, an old 30 GB player and this player is able to start.
What is taken as supported by the BIOS HARD drive size?

    Hello!

As far as I know that the Satellite M40x is equipped with an IDE HDD, and so it has a limitation of LBA 28 bits. Which means that it will only support hard drives 120 GB.
On the limitation of the LBA, you can read more here: [www.48bitlba.com]

So in your case, I'd bought a 120 GB and it should work fine. Check it!

As the hard drive was another computer, the differences between the Optiplex GX620 and disc hard donor system [unless it's an another GX620], are too large and you may need to perform a clean reinstall of XP, then loading the OptiPlex GX620 drivers.

  • Satellite A210-171 - maximum capacity of a hard drive?

What is the max HDD capacity satellite a210-171 may take?

    Hi turboiwan,

As much I know satellite A210-171 has already interface SATA HARD drive so that you can install each HARD drive with this interface because the standard SATA are without capacity limits. This means that hard drives of 500 GB or more may work.

For example, I upgraded my laptop with 500 GB Western Digital drive HARD and this worked great.

  • ThinkServer EasyUpdate for TSx40 servers

Can someone explain why the download provided for these servers is 5 MB? http://support.Lenovo.com/ca/en/products/servers/ThinkServer-Tower-servers/ThinkServer-TS440/70AQ/00... I was trying to make a USB bootable out of it and it kept failing. So I started googling and found similar updaters version (they don't specify that they are for these servers) and they were 300 + MB. http://support.Lenovo.com/ca/en/downloads/ds040926 I guess the update specified in the list of downloads is pooched. Anyone know where I can get a good copy of the update? I was going to send Lenovo but I can't find an email address to send to.

Just for the sake of close the case, the file on the server, which has been altered in fact, was set to count from 24/07/2016. I was able to make an update of the firmware BIOS EasyUpdate.

  • Update on the Satellite A100 HDD

    Hello

    I have a Satellite A100 (PSAA9A-0CU004), which came with a 80 GB hard drive.
Anyone know the max HDD capacity this notebook can handle, as I want to upgrade to a larger disk.

    Thank you

AFAIK the Satellite A100 already has a HARD drive with SATA interface.

On the SATA interface, there is no capacity limit you can buy each HARD drive with SATA interface, what you want.
The new HARD disk must have SATA and 2.5.

  • > 2 TB HDD compatibility with PE2950

    Hello

I would like to know if the PE2950 recognizes HARD more 2 TB disk capacities. We seek to set up a server that will require a lot of storage, hence the need for the biggest drive in TB to 3 or 4. We use RAID10 with FreeNAS OS. We will be populating the server with either (6) 3.5 "3 TB HARD drive (capacity ~8.2TB) or (4) 3.5" 4 TB HDD (capacity ~7.3TB).

I'm new on servers, but what I understand now is that the server will limit space recognized before the OS will be. I saw that PERC controllers are limited to 12 TB, this would be before or after the RAID configuration? For example, will (6) 3 TB will only be recognized as 12 to for RAID0 configuration, but ~ 9 TB for RAID1? Also, so if the server has PERC5 or PERC6, he acknowledges to 18 or 16?

Furthermore, I believe that the operating system must also manage the RAID, so I don't know if the software and the RAID controller will be all conflicts.

I read that the HARD drive will need the Dell firmware. If we use third party records (e.g., Seagate or WD; not Dell), is it still possible? (From my understanding, the server will recognize third HDD, but using the PERC will not recognize them?)

    (Source of information: http://en.community.dell.com/support-forums/servers/f/906/p/19435838/20049100.aspx)

I appreciate all help. Thank you.

    Hello osirisguy

There is not a method of support for the execution of what you want. Supported in the 2950 PERC controllers do not support drives over 2 TB. A drive over 2 TB, installed on a PERC 5/6 appear only as a 2 TB HARD drive or it can not be detected at all. The feature will be trial and error for unsupported configurations.

    OsirisGuy
I would like to know if the PE2950 recognizes HARD more 2 TB disk capacities.

N ° the only way it will be H700 or PERC is newer. There are members of the community who have successfully installed these controllers in older systems, but it is not a validated/taken configuration supported.

    OsirisGuy
For example, will (6) 3 TB will only be recognized as 12 to for RAID0 configuration, but ~ 9 TB for RAID1?

A 3 RAID 1 drive is not possible, but I understand what you're asking. Yes, the operating system sees only the available space. The disks used for parity or mirroring are not presented to the OS. What the operating system is these readers do not exist.

    OsirisGuy
Furthermore, I believe that the operating system must also manage the RAID, so I don't know if the software and the RAID controller will be all conflicts.

The operating system does not support the RAID, but he needs to be able to communicate correctly with the RAID controller. He communicates by the driver within the OS. I suggest to find out if the driver is compatible with your operating system. If your OS is similar to an operating system such as RHEL, then it will probably work.

    OsirisGuy
I read that the HARD drive will need the Dell firmware. If we use third party records (e.g., Seagate or WD; not Dell), is it still possible?

Reference Dell readers should not on our servers. You may experience problems of communication with discs not Dell, but we do not force the use of our readers.

have a Tosh 1640CDT, with 6 GB of disk - how to spend it, and what size max that will support the bios, I also modernize OS at Millenium MS for the bigger drive HARD technical support - also how to install the new drive?

    Hello

I put t know exactly the maximum HDD capacity that your device can handle with but I think 10 or 12 GB should be recognized correctly. In my opinion you should not expect that you can use the HARD disk with a capacity more high anyway the unit is about 6 years old.

  • Windows 7 fails to install completely via Bootcamp on El Capitan

    Configuration information:

iMac: 27-inch, late 2009, with an internal optical drive

HDD capacity: 1 TB, 593 GB available (after Windows 96 GB)

    OS: El Capitan, 10.11.2

Processor: 3.08 GHz, Intel Core 2 Duo

    RAM: 8 GB

    Boot Camp: 6.0.1

    Windows 7 Professional, SP1, 64-bit

My Windows 7 installation does not end, stopping somewhere on the last phase that says "end Installation." I had Windows 7 installed on my Mac before El Capitan has been installed and it worked fine (using the 32-bit version then - I tried too after the installation of El Capitan, but that doesn't work anymore). I did a fresh install of El Capitan that then tried to reinstall Windows 7, but nothing has worked, as shown below.

I use Bootcamp 6.0.1 to install Windows 7 Professional (full version) on a DVD via the internal optical drive. Bootcamp does not offer the ability to select an ISO file. My selection select Bootcamp task shows that these two options:

-Download the latest software from Apple's Windows support

    -Install Windows 7

I chose the two options and had the software support installed on a 64 GB USB key. Since the only option after that install the software support is to stop BCA, I did. I've reopened BCA, deselected the option to download the support software and continued to install Windows 7, making the Bootcamp 96 GB partition. I chose Custom installation and formatted the drive Bootcamp. The Windows installer completes the list of things to do (copy files, extension files,...) and then recharge.  Start Windows appears, and the window displays "end installation. Now that there where begins the strange behavior, I think. It restarts again. After that the Windows splash screen comes on, the screen goes black for a few minutes and then he recharges. This happens once again, but restarting does not, as if it is hung. I even let it run all night just in case she needed some time, but I found that it is always hanging in the morning. The computer was still on and the screen was black. I rebooted by pressing and holding down the power button, Windows starts showing the splash screen becomes black and crashes. ... I started Windows in safe mode, and he says that he cannot complete the installation in safe mode. So it seems that I am stuck. During all this the USB is plugged.

Is there something I need to do to have it complete the installation?

Note that I tried to install Windows using Bootcamp several times, varying from one thing at a time. as the withdrawal of all external drives, physically disconnected from the internet (I'm using a USB adapter to Ethernet because my Ethernet port was fried during a storm), etc. I also tried different ideas that I found on the internet, but none for those who work.

Thanks in advanced for any help.

1 disconnect all USB/ethernet and storage connections.

    The upgrade to Windows XP?

Please read these instructions carefully and completely before you begin installing Windows 7: there are important steps that you must follow to upgrade your PC from Windows XP to Windows 7 in order to preserve your files and settings.

Before you begin, you'll need to backup all your data to an external storage device, and you will need all the installation discs for the programs that you want to keep. Please make sure that you have an external hard drive (see details below).

More detailed instructions are available at windows.microsoft.com/upgrade-windows-xp. Here are the basic steps.

    1. start Windows Upgrade Advisor (windows.microsoft.com/upgradeadvisor) to see if there are known issues that may affect the installation and the question of whether you should install the version of 32 or 64 bit Windows 7.

2 back up your files and settings on an external hard drive using Windows Easy Transfer (windows.microsoft.com/windows-easy-transfer). If you do not have an external hard drive, you will not be able to use Windows Easy Transfer. Alternatively, you can copy the files you want to keep on a USB stick, CD or DVD.

    3. you will need to manually reinstall your programs, such as Microsoft Office, after I installed Windows 7. Gather the installation for your programs and all partner/license product key discs. You may be able to download programs from the Internet. For example, Windows Live Messenger can be installed from the download.live.com/messenger.

    4. Insert the Windows 7 DVD in your PC. When asked "which type of installation you want. Click on "Custom (advanced)."

    5. when Windows 7 is installed, use Windows Easy Transfer to restore your files and settings.

If you are not comfortable Windows 7 installation, check with a local retail or the services of the PC company store to see if they offer upgrade services.

  • More large hard drive

Can I replace 60 G Cdrive with a bigger hard drive. How can I transfer the operating system and programs installed to the new drive. HP 6 G drive may be removed or used.

jonnbrown wrote: I can replace 60 G Cdrive with a bigger hard drive. How can I transfer the operating system and programs installed to the new drive. HP 6 G drive may be removed or used.

Hello jonnbrown, you can almost always replace an existing hard drive with a larger capacity hard drive. There are a few considerations to know.

You must know the limitations of the BIOS for a hard drive. Some allow up to 127 GB of capacity. Most more recent system BIOS will allow the larger hard disks.

It may be possible to update an older BIOS so that it would accept a HDD capacity more than the limit of 127 GB.

It is suggested that, whenever you replace a hard drive in a system, you perform a new installation of the operating system.

Sometimes, you can use a program that does a disk hard image and save it to another device, such as an external hard drive and the use of this image to restore new hard disk. You cannot be to simply copy data from the old hard drive to the new hard drive.

You may be able to use the 60 GB hard drive as a backup disk once the new hard drive is installed and the system works as it should, if you have a location in the case of another hard drive.
