Thunderbird downloads e-mail alone, even though I have disabled this feature. How to fix?

I have Thunderbird minimum in my new computer running Windows 10 the other day. I created my account to only check email when I want to, not when I open Thunderbird or every minute as much. I did this by going to tools, then account settings, and settings of the server, and then in the server settings uncheck "check for new messages at startup" and "Check for new messages every _ minutes." I then clicked on "OK". Thunderbird always check new messages when I open it and every so often during the day. How can I fix? Apparently, I have a Courier IMAP server, if that makes a difference.

Also, go into server setting for this account and click on the setting on the server , click Advanced. Uncheck the box use the Idle command and see if that helps.
