Tightening of the iPad 16 GB storage

I'm almost out of storage on my ipad and the culprit is the Photos app (and myself) where I have more than 2 GB of photos.

Is there a good way for me to this unloading on the cloud storage while I tell me what to do in the future? I have enabled iCloud photo library.  The operating system will let me delete the Photos app, so that the way to get rid of the storage is not available. I could possibly get rid of all these photos because I have intact SD cards and could change to import everything back on my desktop computer.

  • Why my iPhone has a capacity lower than my iPad when they have the same amount of storage?

Why my iPhone has less capacity (storage wise) than my iPad when they both have the same amount of storage?  My pictures takes up to 7.2 GB on my iPhone with only 700 pictures & my iPad takes up to 4.0 GB with more than 1,000?

Check the settings of your devices to the settings > Photos & camera > iCloud photo library > do you both value library optimized? If NOT, this is your answer. If YES, then the size of the local library is adjusted based how much space you have, if you change or display more than full resolution images on a device, than another, on what device the photos were taken, etc.

  • iPad available incompatible storage

Hello, everyone. I just check the available space on my iPad and apparently I have 6.5 GB free even though yesterday there was a 6.9 GB free. I have not downloaded or installed anything. Then I check the storage available through iTunes and it says I have 8.32 GB available, even if he still 6.5 GB on the iPad. Anyone know why these things happen and why the available storage is so inconsistent? Thank you.

By the way, I was recently updated to iOS 9.3.5 and was recently restored from a backup to iCloud to solve a problem involving the mail app.

The inconsistency of the free space was infestation iDevices/iTunes for as long as I can remember.

This seems to have improved in public beta versions of iOS 10.

On top of that, because of the caches, temporary files, etc., the amount of free space on your device may vary slightly. 6.9 to 6.5 is a reasonable fluctuation, but if you start to notice more radical changes in free space, there may be a software bug that consumes some of your free space.

  • Remove photos/music of the iPad.

I wanted some pictures of my iMac transferred to my iPad. I found myself by synchronizing the two m/cs which gave rise to all the photos/music, transferring to the iPad. Now, I want to remove most of the music/pictures which was transferred to my iPad from him leaving just the two pictures that I undertook to transfer. How can I do?

Reconnect your iPad to iTunes on your Mac and use his Photos and the music of the tabs in iTunes to change your sync photo selections.

You cannot delete photos synced directly on an iPad, they are removed by changing your selection of photo sync and Resync. music can be deleted either directly in the app music (he dotted icon next to a name of artist or album) or via the settings > general > storage & use iCloud > storage management > music (top) - but it is likely to be easier via iTunes on your computer (and do it right on your iPad short the risk of it being synchronized back the next time you sync).

  • Restore the iPad App via Time Machine?

Let's see if I can explain it clearly without writing a novel...

We used iBank on a series of iPads in Quicken replacement.  iBank was wonderful.

A few days ago, we decided to accept the upgrade to the new version of the App.  The upgrade has changed the name of the application of Banktivity 5.0.3.

After the update the app is more responsible, is back with ' an error occurred during the migration of permanent storage' and when we hit OK you get the spinning wheel of death, eternally.  Fearing yet another Apple HW question I made the mistake to immediately an iPad manual backup because I did not know when the last of them automatic was and I didn't lose anything else on the iPad.

The iPad is running 9.3.1 model number MD516LL/a H/W.

We have iTunes to save 'automatically' iPad 'to this computer.  We do not use the cloud.

I had an exchange of mail with the support of the IGG, but when we walked in the restoration of a previous automatic backup on the iPad, they were out of their depth.  I have no complaint with their support, they do not know where are stored the backups or how to proceed.

So, that's where it gets interesting/frustrating.

I try to use Time Machine to restore the App from a previous version in iTunes and then sync to iPad.

I do not see the backup files to iPad specific laptop I use for backup "automatic" iTunes "to this computer.  I see the list of applications on the iPad iTunes in the ' users > Shared > iTunes > directory of Mobile Applications.  I'm going back in time in Time Machine to find the last backup the previous version of iBank has or Banktivity iTunes before 5.0.3... in the hopes of restoring just that specific app and data...

... Previous Time Machine backups have iBank or Banktivity listed in the applications!  I have looked far and sought to my heart's content, but none are here.  All other applications will appear in the list, but not iBank or Banktivity.  Now, I'm stumped... Why would not appear anywhere in the last backups?

Having lost all historical and current in the iBank data are a pretty big disaster if I don't want to take the risk of ruining more by doing a partial or full restore iPad without understanding why the previous of iBank versions and/or Banktivity do not appear in the lists before the last manual of Time Machine backup?

The iPad is an ideas, thoughts or suggestions would be most appreciated.

Real applications are not stored in the backup (which contains the content of applications, your settings, documents, photos etc), restoration (backups are stored in ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/on a Mac, a backup is not designed to be readable by the user) would look to pick up the application of the section My Apps from your iTunes library - so looking for a old backup iPad in Time Machine won't help your find the app.

As to why the app does not appear in your Time Machine backup of your folder "Mobile Applications", looking for the correct name of the application (the name that shows in your iTunes Apps my chapter cannot be the same as the file real .ipa computer/time Machine; some of my friends have very different names)?

  • Workflow using the iPad in the field?

I am a wildlife photographer and usually bring my MBP and Thunder drive with me in Africa. I try to lighten my load and bring an ipad instead. But I need to keep 2 backups as well as cards. To my knowledge, I was not able to find any solutions from third-party storage to EXPORT photos to (lots of solutions to store and disseminate on the ipad). I have no internet so no clouds of access. Anyone know, or better yet, found a solution? Other than transporting a photo hyperspace for a second player, also isolated the backup.

Also, if I use the connector of the camera and the ipad and download my RAW for pictures files, it will display jpeg. No problem. But when I go home and connect to my iMac, how do I get the RAW files for import into Aperture?

    Appreciate ideas.

    Thank you

Which version of iOS you encounter on your iPad?

Do you still have iOS 7 and iPhoto on the iPad, or the most recent iOS and only Photos?

With the new iOS and Photos, you will not be able to add subtitles or tags for photos on the iPad. It would be preferable to bring your MBP.

But when I go home and connect to my iMac, how do I get the RAW files for import into Aperture?

When you connect iPad to a USB port and start the opening, it will import the RAW files of the iPad. Just make sure that RAW files are not excluded in the import settings in the import Panel.

I have no internet so no clouds of access. Anyone know, or better yet, found a solution? Other than transporting a photo hyperspace for a second player, also isolated the backup.

I did a backup drive and copied the card in the backup drive, whenever I could borrow a PC in a hotel or lodge. But it works well in many remote locations where I can't even be sure to have access to a power supply. I tried only once to travel without a Mac laptop and never again. Only, I replaced the model 17 "by a model 15" that is not so heavy. A MacBook Air at least will be much more convenient than the iPad.

Added: How much storage is on your phone?  My Panasonic camera can stream photos to both my iPad and my iPhone. It is o.k. for a few days as a backup, but not for long journey.

  • Remove photos from the iPad to free up space.

When I try to delete a photo from my iPad I get this message: "this photo will be deleted from iCloud photo library on all of your devices." I just want to remove it from my iPad. I want to keep it on my desktop computer.

iCloud library is intended to keep the same libraries on all your devices. If you add a picture to the library or remove from the library, change syncs to all devices.

If you don't want to - but want to have more photos on your desktop on your iPad, do not use iCloud photo library on the iPad. Synchronize the albums selected on your iPad with cloud Sync Photo.  See this link: keep your photos safely stored and updated on all your devices - Apple Support (scroll down to "Synchronize photos manually with iTunes").

Alternatively, you can use the option "Optimize storage" for iCloud photo library on your iPad.  So you will still see all the photos on the iPad, but it only stores more small thumbnails for browsing and download photos from iCloud, if you want to see them enlarged.

  • Transfer photos from the ipad

My mini Ipad was synced with my mac I erase and sold. I have all my photos on my ipad but not in Icloud. (30 GB of photos) Is there a way I can recover the pictures?

If I click on synchronize with Icloud will it delete all my photos and keep only about 5 GB, which was my old storage (I have now 200 GB)

In short, the only device where I have my pictures is my mini Ipad... any ideas? Is there something to send to Icloud?

    Thank you

Your photos have been synced to your iPad via iTunes sync Photo as described here: Sync photos to your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch in iTunes - Apple Support ?

Photo sync iTunes is only oneway.  You can get photos of the iPad, but photos will not be saved to the camera roll, and therefore, you cannot download them to a computer. If you want to do something with the photos on the iPad, copy and save copies on film. Then you can change them or share them or download them to a computer.

iCloud is a synchronization system, not a storage system. If you delete photos/videos on your iPad, they are removed to iCloud. To increase the available space, go settings/iCloud/Photos and select optimize iPhone/iPad storage.

  • understand what to remove from the iPad

    I have a 32 GB iPad mini

I continue to receive messages that the storage capacity is full and I have to delete something...

I can't understand which fits all this space, I have a ton of HD movies out there or anything like that...

perhaps I should simply get rid of all my photos and add just sometimes a few extraordinary those back in?

is there a quick guide somewhere in the management of the photos on the iPad?

also I understand whatever it is to remove... I need room for a few episodes of SOUTH PARK (small capacity) I don't want to watch!

(either by the way streaming services like hulu, never work for me - mainly because I can never get the wi - fi works in the gym...)

Thanks for the input / return.

Go to settings > general > use iCloud and storage > storage and see which occupies the space of storage of your iPad. Remove what you think, you need to delete.

There is another way. Apple throws sometimes ios all the garbage system until the / other directory. If this is the case and you don't see that something is your space in the iPad settings, connect your iPad to iTunes. If 'Other' directory of storage can hold up to 3 GB, it's time to worry because you can then erase your iPad completely.

Also. If you have movies and movies stored on your computer, you can load them onto your device using telegram - great messaging application (it supports files up to 1.5 GB, unlimited and free).

  • How I have no space on my ipad by storing photos on icloud (and their elimination of the ipad)

My storage is full on my ipad, I bought an extra storage in icloud.

I want to "liberate" space on my ipad to store the photos on my icloud and their elimination from the ipad.  Currently I can only store them at a time, which seems to go to the purchase of storage additional icloud.

    Hi victoriafromswansea,

Thank you for using communities Support from Apple! If you are currently using iCloud photo library and looking to save space on your iPad, you can find the option optimize the described in the following article useful:

Can I use iCloud photo library to save space on my device?

iCloud photo library automatically keeps all of your photos and videos in the original version, in high resolution. Follow these steps to choose how you store your photos and videos on your device:

    • On your iPhone, iPad or iPod touch, tap Settings > iCloud > pictures or settings > Photos & camera, then select a storage parameter.
    • On your Mac, click on Photos > Preferences > iCloud, and select a storage parameter.

If you turn on [device] Optimize storage, iCloud photo library manages automatically the size of your library on your device, you can make the most of your device storage and access photos more than ever. All of your original photos, full resolution and the videos are stored in iCloud while unit size versions are stored on your device. You can download original photos and videos over Wi - Fi or cell phone when you need it.

If you turn on download original, iCloud photo library will keep your original, full resolution photos and videos on iCloud and on your device. Download the originals is the default setting for iOS devices with 5 GB free storage plan and all Mac devices.

You need an Internet connection to access a photo original or video that is stored only in iCloud.

  • A RAW workflow on the iPad - first impressions

Since Adobe released Lightroom Mobile 2.4, which includes support for editing RAW files, I did experiments with the help of my iPad Pro as part of my photography work that I wanted to find a way to use the iPad as a desktop replacement for when I'm away from home. I wanted to share with you my experience, who has managed for the most part so far.

The workflow allows me to use my iPad Pro apply enhancements to RAW images (.cr2) taken with my digital camera to edit and share directly from the iPad, or for mounting on Office of Lightroom on PC when I'm at home.

First of all, for this test the following was used:

    • iPad Pro 9.7 "iOS10 running beta 3, iCloud library active
    • Lightroom 2.4 with subscription cloud creative mobile
    • Lightroom CC 15.6.1 on Windows PC 10.
    • Lightning to (version 2016) SD card reader
    • SanDisk Extreme SDHC I have SD Card
    • account iCloud with 50 GB storage plan
    • Connection of 50 MB fibre broadband

For the test, I took 216 photos with my Canon G7X in RAW and JPEG mode. Then, I realized that I had to remove JPEG copies like the iPad will read only the JPEG where there is a RAW and JPEG files under the same filename. The workflow is the following:

    1. Insert the SD card in lightning to SD card reader and insert it to the iPad.
    2. The iPad to display the import dialog box and thumbnails of your RAW images will begin to load. Choose select all and Import of Photos (you don't have to wait for the thumbnails to load). It took 2 minutes and 45 seconds to download the RAW 213 files to the iPad, which are about 19 MB each; It is approximately 1.3 seconds per photo. If you are connected to WiFi and have a space of storage iCloud, the original RAW images will begin to be saved on iCloud instantly - you can check it out by going to www.icloud.com.
    3. The Photos app, select Albums > last import > select > select all > Add To > New Album (album name).
    4. With the photos in an album, you can browse and take down the images that you do not want (Note: remove them only sends the recently deleted folder, which permanently deletes the photos after 30 days).
    5. Open Lightroom Mobile. Either import the images into Lightroom, by creating a new Collection: Add of Photos (my preferred method), or by choosing Camera Roll > (drop-down) > Select Album (album to choose or open recently removed).
    6. You will notice a small symbol RAW in the middle of the thumbnails indicating that they are RAW files. Click on... > select all > Add the Photos.
    7. The images will be added to Lightroom Mobile and you can start to make changes on the iPad. Original RAW (no Smart Previews) images are then synced to Lightroom via creative cloud office and will appear in your folders organized as if you imported the directly to the PC. (It is important to note that the original RAW file is now saved on your PC in the same organizational structure of folder you would expect if you were to be imported directly to the office of Lightroom)
. All changes made to LR Mobile will be synchronized on LR Desktop.
  • Once photos are synced to creative cloud severs, you can then remove your iPad Camera Roll to free up storage space (or, if you have enough iCloud of storage, you can free up storage leaving iCloud automatically manages your storage unit so you never run out of space).
  • Overall, I found the process very simple and the new iPad has more than enough processing power to be able to handle the RAW image editing. It also has a very beautiful high resolution screen. Indeed, during the operation it is much faster than my HP laptop running Windows 10. In addition, unlike the desktop version, LR Mobile uses fully real estate screen on the iPad in edit mode, which makes it easier to use than the complete Lightroom running on smaller laptops.

The main limitation for me is that I still have to make some progress editing such as merging HDR and panorama LR Office, but because LR Mobile syncs across the original RAW images on the cloud, the transition between the mobile and desktop is seamless.

I hope that some people will find this useful. It's great to finally have almost complete office on the iPad's capability, and I think it's really going to transform my photography workflow.

Thanks for this detailed writing. I was curious and wanting to give it a try, but have not had the chance to yet.
