Time machine keeps 'prepare' update

I noticed yesterday that this time machine turned when I was on finder. (the small wheel circulating)  I checked and the last update was December 27, several days ago.  I have not updated anything or any news apps in.  Nothing has changed.  I am running Yosemite 10.10.5. on my day 2010 27 "iMac.  After searching for communities, I saw one say to uncheck "put the hard drives to sleep when possible" under the energy saver.  I did and it made no difference.  I get all records of time machine that there is a problem, he just keeps trying to update.  I disabled the time Machine for some time and then restarted, it and got the same.  I removed the current and then attached to time machine backup drive, but no difference.  (the disc has 855 GB 2T available and is about a year.) Have no idea that it would take 5/6 days to prepare to be updated even though I had added something new.

If I update to El Capitan would be it reset Time Machine.  I've been putting it off power to ensure that most of the bugs are out.

Thank you

Judy

  • Time Machine blocked preparation backup

    Hi community

Time Machine, I get the iMac to backup, Time Capsule 371 GB of the preparation phase of backup available 998 GB for one eternity, as others have reported.

My system is an iMac (27-inch, late 2009), processor 2.8 GHz Intel Core i7, 12 GB 1067 MHz DDR3 Memory with an ATI Radeon HD 4850 512 MB video card and a physical disk internal 1 TB ST31000528AS Sata media.

My last backup was September 16, 2016 @ 1257 GMT and my software was the last version of El Capitan.  (I backup to another external HARD drive, using Carbon Copy Cloner and backup guru Mac unfortunately I don't have a big enough other ext HDD to run a time Machine backup to as well).

When the TC is connected I can see the iMac and iMac.sparsebundle backup folder and when I enter the time Machine I can see the chronology running back from 16 Sep and it allows me to access the files in the folders.  So, I guess that the disk HARD of TC is OK.

Software changes have been: 1 MS a copy of CCleaner Free 1.14.451, 2 Ms Security Update 2016-001, 13 Sep Adobe Flash, 14 Sep 12.5.1, 16 Sep Digital Camera RAW compatibility update iTunes.  Never had a problem before with these downloads.  Safari updated September 20, then to Sierra 22 Sep having saved first using the CCC and MBG.

Through the various pages of help through Google.  Follow-up advice given to reset the SMC and the PRAM, deleted Sophos home and com.apple.TimeMachine.plist and com.apple.TimeMachine.plist.lockfile.

Rebooted and restarted the iMac and Time Capsule several times, done many backups check the reset even the time Capsule disk, but all without success.

I'm still stuck in preparation of backup when I reselect the backup drive.

    Can someone help please?

Finally, I had a problem in 2014 when Apple recalled the iMac to a HARD drive replacement program.  This was successful, but a few days later the Time Machine and time Capsule would not save.  This is due to the component change when the UUID was different.  The advice I would have given were to know how inherit backup and controls disk associated within the Terminal. Stupidly, I started again when the TC asked me to and then discovered the Terminal commands a few days later.  The loss of backups of 4 years was no big problem, so I suppose that if I have to, I won't again unless a member of the smart community can better advise me please?

    Good community

I forgot to tell you that I save on a Capsule of 1 GB bought in 2010 with the iMac.

Don't know how, but not before I finished posting my above query Time Machine kicked back in action and performed a backup pick up all the changes, about 50 GB since Sept. 16.

He did once again this morning, so I'm sorry I can't post what Time Machine and my Time Capsule due action to act properly.

I have the same problem. I found this,

macOS, problems of the Sierra: Time Machine backup Mac

Time Machine problems prevented the Mac owners of their devices to backup since the upgrade to Mac OS Sierra, and the problem is widespread enough that Apple has published a guide on what to do if you can't back up:

    Discount for the iMac SMC

    1. turn off the device

    2. unplug the power cord from the monitor

    3. wait 60 seconds

    4 reconnect the power cord

    5. DON'T TURN ON DEVICE

    Reset the PRAM

    1. the computer must always be switched off.

    2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: command, Option, P, and r. you need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.

    3. press and release the power button to turn on the computer.

    4. press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You have to press these keys before the gray screen appears. Continue to hold the keys down until the computer is restarted, and you hear the tone of starting for the 3rd time.

    5. release the keys.

You can then try to save again. If this does not work, try to disable indexing on the drive you want to back up.

but I'm not sure it's the same question. I'll try it and report.

  • Time Machine keeps make full backups

I have a TM drive (3 TB) backup 3 partitions (about 1.2 TB total) since October 2014.  TM keep doing strange things when I'm doing something unrelated to the TM. For example, temporarily starting in Mavericks (I'm under 10.6.8) completely wrecks TM in same 10.6.8 so I turned off it and physically disconnected the disk until I'm back in 10.6.8.  I spent 2 months with the support of Apple earlier this year to try to figure out how to make it work again in 10.6.8.  I have reset TM (Pondini.org pages) several times.  The most recent problem occurred when I tried to resize a partition on a disk mirror (excluded in the TM).  After you have finished resizing, TM has made a backup of 600GO when he was that nothing changed on any of the 3 targets TM usually saves.  I had to upgrade to a larger disk, earlier this year because of this kind of behavior (2 TB-3 TB >) and I have reset the UUID of the new drive so that it would continue from where the 2 TB drive left using the xattr and fsaclctl commands (it worked perfectly!).  I'm slowly running out of space again.  Does someone understand why this is happening?  More importantly, is there a way to delete a backup and do not have TM do it again.  I could easily delete the most recent backup but I suspect that the next time that TM made a backup, it will be rebackup the 600 GB. I suppose that one solution is to buy another drive and reset the UUID, but this does not solve the problem of weird behavior.  TM is an archive history is important, but it's a royal pain!

  • Time Machine quota not updated...

I've recently implemented Server OSX on El Capitan.  I put the maximum size of the backups to be 500 GB, but realized soon after that 1 TB would be more appropriate for a couple machines on our network.

One of the machines connect to the server keeps complaining that he doesn't have enough space on the server and says he has only 500GB which is the first value, I set, but subsequently amended up to 1 TB.

All clients and the server running the latest version of El Capitan.

How to make the server or the client acknowledges the update of space available on the server?

    Hello!

I also got this a few months ago. Hopefully I can clear things up a bit:

If you set a quota of 500 GB in App Server, all sparse containers (SC) on your TM storage space will be created with a maximum size of 500 GB. If you change this value to the rest of the server application, only the new SC´s download this new size 'Old' remains to 500 GB.

  • Mac OSx Sierra Time Machine WD my cloud

Since upgrading to Mac OSX Sierra my Macbook Pro and Macbook Air are not capable of doing Time Machine back Ups to a WD MyCloud drive that is connected to our router.

We have updated the firmware on the WD My Cloud drive to the latest version and contacted WD on this problem, so far they have not come with a solution to the problem.

If you open Time Machine preferences and then observe what happens, by hitting 'Back Up Now' systems do "Looking to save the disc" then "Preparing backup" then stop and then go back to the status of 'rest' without backup anything to the top at all. It is the same on both machines. You can see here: Time Machine Back Up My Cloud

Notice how the drive icon changes to the point where it stops working and then goes to the other drive which is a USB.

Now, to complicate the issue further... an iMac connected via Ethernet to the router can go back to the My Cloud drive perfectly as before. If Apple changed something with the wireless protocols I think but that?

  • Lost in Time Machine restore photos

At the end of my wits. This is the second time that this has happened. After you erase and reformat my hard drive, restore partition I restored a backup of all my files that had been made a few days earlier Time machine. It LOOKED as if all went well, but now I find that one of my Albums, which had well over 150 photos, or iPhoto has only managed to restore 14 of these photos. And this is the most important. As I say, it happened the last time I did this kind of restoration as well.

After I did the Time Machine in the system restore, I was prompted to rebuild the iPhoto database and did, and I was also invited to "import" all of my many boxes to the letters and their content in the mail. So far, it seems that IT worked, but as with iPhoto, most of whose albums DID restore entirely, or at least seem to have done, I fear that there are losses latent God knows where.

I pray that someone can explain to me how this could occur and how to fix it.

In addition, why in the categories among which I must choose are there no category for Time Machine?

Update: some research, the first under the spotlight by a file name the closest to one of the 14 who in the appropriate album, and then, after trying manually drag some of those in the album and being rejected because he claimed that the pictures were already in the iPhoto library, I opened all of the photos in the photo library and finally understood how to sort them by title. And there were all these «lost photos» Try and then drag them into the appropriate album, I have had no joy. It simply wouldn't do. So, I created a new album without title and was able to pass all these photos in this one and then re-name-the.

So, obviously, it is random random sort by Time Machine, put pictures in their albums proper during a restore. Does anyone have an explanation of why this would be the case? If I didn't have a photo of survivor in the game with a title to be used as a means of rallying defined overall in the undifferentiated photo album, I would have needed hours and hours to track them all, and if I had not known instantly that many disappeared after restore, this album, I would never have known even to go look for them.

Of course, one would expect time Machine to do what it is supposed to do in a situation like this?

  • Corrupt movies iPhone, Time Machine BU Confusion

Many different questions from here a big problem.

Recently, I had a lot of problems that my laptop is running out of hard drive space. It is overheating and there are a number of other issues.

I tried to back up my iPhoto library, exclusively pictures of my iPhone and most of these shorts of the same phones, a c 4 and 5.

I found a handful of films that seem to be corrupted and no matter what I do will not move on the backup drive. I've placed in a folder on my desktop and then dragged and dropped the entire library without those annoying movies on the backup drive and renamed. I can now go to iPhoto and open and browse the library saved, no problem.

These films have played fine in iPhoto and when you open them from the desktop. However, most of them is HUGE, 200-500 MB for 2-5 minutes of film. That's happened? How to register these important films and fix the problem?

Another big question, I want to delete this library and create space on my burdened portable computer but I am concerned about Time Machine and how he backs up. I know it is progressive but somehow erases the oldest backups after a while?

I do not understand that like the idea of backup of my laptop medium I want to doing everything that I never go back to the time, I started to back up.

What is the best way to back up your computer hard drive this old back ups are never deleted?

How can I back up all my external drives so that they are also protected?

I do not understand that like the idea of backup of my laptop medium I want to doing everything that I never go back to the time, I started to back up.

And you can have that, assuming that you allocate enough space for the task.

Time Machine keeps a restoration up - that is, you have the option to revert to a previous state, but how far back you can go is determined by the amount of space time Machine needs to work with. After all, each return until requires space, no? Thus, the limit is the amount of space that you allocate to the back upward. More space the more distance you can restore.

There are several other backup applications, if the courses and the main difference is that when the disk is full they stop just back up. Then, you will need to allocate more space, either remove the material from the back upward. So same-same really.

If you want to archive material, store it outside to a back up, move it to another disk - but remember that the disc must be saved ip too.
