Time Machine restore failed

Hi people,

This dragged on for days now so I need your help to repair what is currently a brick that cost a couple of grand.

I had my logic board & battery replaced in my mid 2015 MBP 250 GB.

I'm trying to restore my computer using Time Machine.

I ran into a number of difficulties.

First, I tried to restore from the latest backup.

Estimated to take 8hours.

He failed.

I tried again.

He failed because he now says that the backup has been used by another machine.

It was mine!

That solved by restarting my computer and restarting the Airport Extreme, Time Capsule.

Down to the low bar show my back upwards.

It failed after only 30 minutes or more.

I read the fantastic troubleshooting guide, which seems to indicate that the new logic board is time machine it's a new computer.

I have a problem with that.

I got my MBP passing an MBA (when I bought it) upward.

Worked well.

The work during the night.

Next maybe useless idea was to get any glitches OSX went with a fresh OSX install and do a restore from time machine after that?

So, my next attempt was to do a fresh install of OSX El Capitan.

Until now this process should take 5 days! Seriously!

I'm afraid to look at tomorrow incase it extends to a month or something!

What should I do?

When a card is replaced, unless it is flashed with the old serial number, it is a new machine that is where your problem is.

If repair has been to an Apple store, resume and get them fixed.

If this was done at an authorized service center, resume and have them repaired. If they do not, contact Apple.

The easiest solution is to simply remove the software that is causing the "bugs".

The system itself and not operating not cause the problems you are having. They are probably caused by third-party software, but could be a problem with your trackpad or hard drive.

Make a backup, best 2 separated on 2 discs. Start of recovery volume (command - R on a restart, or hold down the option/Alt during a restart and select the Volume of recovery). Run the check/repair disk utility and repair permissions until you get no error. • Win 7 hangs after Time Machine restore - Fusion v8.02

New to the group, but a user of merger for a long time on a MacBook Pro 2009.

It's a little complicated, but here are the facts:

I have experienced a complete hard drive failure but had the system saved Time machine. After installing the new drive (Samsung 850 EVO SSD, 500 GB), I installed Snow Leopard from a dvd. I then did a restore from Time Machine since the last backup and most things worked very well. However, when I started Fusion (v8.0 at the time), I got the blue screen of death in Windows 7. After a few attempts, he found a remedy that helped win 7 to start normally and everything seemed to work fine. So I decided to upgrade the OS to El Capitan, and I'm back to the blue screen of death of Win 7. Nothing I've tried has worked to get Windows started, I can't start even in Safe Mode.

I tried a manual uninstall complete Fusion 8 and reinstalled, but no change. I don't have much on the partition for Windows, really, just 3 programs I can not run in OS X, no storage data here either. Time, as I see it, I have two choices: 1) do an another Time Machine restore and downgrade of El Capitan by returning to the previous configuration. (2) do a complete reinstallation of Windows 7 and Fusion.

If there is a way to just do a reinstall of Windows, I'm ready for that, too. (However, since the upgrade of the El Capitan I can't use the optical dvd drive with all disks based on Windows... already reported)

    Any help would be appreciated.

As a follow-up, not long after my post, I get a call from VmWare support. (I submitted a ticket) Most excellent service. She takes control of my computer remotely and speaks to me through a new facility and a new virtual machine. I had downloaded a new version of Win 7 for installation and all went well.

During the conversation I forget I wanted to install Win 10, but my system was apparently not compatible due to a graphics card or driver. She informs me that she has a solution for this and I am trying to install Win 10.

  • Time Machine backup fails because "there is not enough space on the «DiskStation «»

My backups regular TimeMachine to DiskStation stopped working a few months ago.  I thought it was because I ran out of space but now I installed an extra 1 TB RAID and I always get this error message.

Here is the view viewfinder of the TimeMachine file that I am trying to backup (note, a lot of disk space):

This is the view of the Inspector of it:

    System details:

    -MacBook Pro 2013 with OS X 10.11.2

-LAN WiFi Pace 2Wire998 router with DiskStation connected by Ethernet, MacBook Pro by WiFi

-Synology DiskStation DS411slim with 4 x 2.5 "hard drives installed.

A device third-party network attached storage (NAS) or a router is unsuitable for use with Time Machine, especially if it's your only backup. I know that's not what you want to hear. I know that Time Machine accepts the device as a backup destination. I know that the manufacturer says the device will work with Time Machine, and I also know that it usually seems to work. Except when you are trying to restore and find that you can't.

Apple has published a specification for network devices that works with Time Machine. No third party provider, AFAIK, does meet this specification. They all use the application of Netatalk incomplete, obsolete Apple Filing Protocol.

Apple does not endorse any device third-party network for use with Time Machine. See this support article.

Network backup, use as destination an Apple Time Capsule or an external storage device connected to another Mac or a 802.11ac AirPort base station. Only 802.11ac base stations support time Machine, not older model.

Otherwise, use Time Machine at all. There are other ways to save, although none of them are nowhere near as effective or as well integrated with OS X. I don't have a specific recommendation.

If you are determined to continue to use the device with Time Machine, your only remedy for any resulting problem is the manufacturer (who will blame Apple, neither you nor anyone else but herself.)

  • Time Machine restore problems

Me again... still to try to recover my drive hard because I tried to make the Boot Camp.

In preparation for boot from the external drive, I had a cool time machine backup of the system. The system was Captain El.

When I started pressing cmd + R to choose the way to go, I entered the utilities disk and tried to format/erase the existing partitions so that one new partition could be created, and then I use boot camp to install windows again.

Somehow after I did that and came back to restore options the system reported it no were not available to boot from the boot floppies and asked me to tie a boot disk. Having no other than the old drive boot disk that I had replaced out of the computer when he was a Maverick, I used as a startup disk and go to revive the position and where I chose what to do.

When I choose now to restore from the external drive that has my time backup machine El captain on this program trying to install for a bit, and then he told me that ' year error occurred during the addition of a system of recovery on the destination disk. It then asks me to restart to get rid of the problem, and of course the problem won't go away.

If I choose to reset the computer he'll want to maverick. I agree with going back that far and punting again and I'll probably have to do this because it appears that I have no other choice. I hope that I can install Maverick and then restore my El Captain off the external drive.

    Hello Farzad_K,

Thanks for asking for help with Time Machine here in Apple Support communities. I am pleased to offer you things to check this.

Since your Mac is fairly new, I recommend first start in recovery of the Internet. Here is the article on this subject: on Mac OS recovery. I know it says it's the Sierra, but the steps are the same for El Capitan. Use the second set of instructions for the recovery of the Internet with the keys: command ⌘ ⌥ (alt) Option and the letter R.

For this with the drive installed that you want to install OS X El Capitan to. If you have changed to the older readers with the Mavericks, switch back, and then run the recovery of the Internet. This will fix your hard drive and then allows you to install the operating system from Apple servers. Then you can restore the backup, or try to run a Migration Wizard using this help article: move your content to a new Mac.

Thanks again and relax your day wonderful.

  • Time Machine restore, most of the alias icons are broken?

I recently restored the system of Time Machine, but my alias (for most) have broken images.  If I copy the aliases, they are all fixed, but I can't do it exactly for each alias on the machine!  Restoration of the alias of Time Machine seems to have the same effect.

Is it possible for the shot to solve this problem?

I tried several solutions, compensation resolved cache:

    Deploy sudo rm - rf / *.

    sudo rm - rf ~/Library/Caches/*

    Reset

If I had known what specific cache which is held the icon broken, images that would have been better.  It turns out that only some of the specific sizes were broken, which explains why the icons seem to appear and then disappear again on another page.

It is so incredibly boring, I can't understand what is happening.

I've looked everywhere and I can't solve this problem on mine more, I spent hours and hours already

Please take each of the following steps that you have not already tried until the problem is resolved.

    1. disconnect, then reconnect the drive.

    2. in the menu bar, select

▹ System Preferences Energy Saver power adapter ▹ ▹ 

    and uncheck the box marked

Put the hard drives to sleep when possible

    If it is checked.

Some external readers ignore setting the energy saver and turn down in any case. In this case, the drive to replace with another type, unless the manufacturer's website has a firmware update to fix the problem.

    3. If the player is connected to a hub, connect it to a port built into the computer. If it is already connected to a built-in port, and there is another such port, use.

    4. If the player has more than one deck (for example, FireWire and USB), try another.

    5. check the Web site of the provider of the car for an update of the firmware.

6 contact the seller to see if there is a firmware setting, you can change.

    7. If you have installed the provider for the reader software, uninstall it.

    8. triple - click anywhere in the line below on this page to select this option:

    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.TimeMachine.plist

Right-click or Ctrl-click on the highlighted line and select

Services ▹ reveal in Finder (or just to reveal)

in the context menu. A Finder window should open with a selected file. Copy the file to the desktop. Then he (the original, not the copy) move to the trash. You will be asked for your administrator password. Restart the computer and re-create your settings in the Time Machine preferences window. It will show you that you have no backups. Don't worry; which is expected. Perform a backup to test. The backup can take much longer than usual. If TM now works as expected, delete the file that you copied to the desktop.

    9. If none of the steps above resolves the problem, the drive may be defective. Try another. You may be able to save an external drive mechanism by installing it in a different pen.

  • Time Machine restore Mail (or fact)?

Yesterday I restored my iPhone from a backup to iCloud and, despite my preference for deletion delete messages on 'Never' (Yes, I know that Apple always deletes them after a month), iPhone restored with the preference set to "1 week". This preference then synced to iCloud, and I have now lost is the last three weeks of deleted messages on all my devices (grrr).

I'm trying to get back them on my iMac to Time Machine. I opened the Mail and selected the "Trash - iCloud ' record went to Time Machine. The mail window says "click on restore to recover your trash in iCloud. I chose a moment before I have restored the iPhone and clicked on restore and everything went back to normal pace, but I could see from the window of the e-mail activity that he was downloading nearly 6, 000 messages (!) Why must download 6 000 messages to restore the trash of my last month - that is not more than a few hundred - I don't know, but I had other things to do I let it blow away.

I checked periodically and it was still blowing. Then I came back and the download was complete and nothing had changed! My trash to iCloud goes back more than a week.

Where are these 5 000 + messages that I just waited a hour? Did I miss something?

    Thanks in advance,

    Steve =: ^)

When you use Time Machine to restore e-mail messages, they are placed in a separate folder named recovered E-mail (or something like that). Look in the sidebar where are all your other mailboxes.

To restore deleted messages, you should be pointing out the mailbox you want TM to restore, not the trash.

  • Lost in Time Machine restore photos

At the end of my wits. This is the second time that this has happened. After you erase and reformat my hard drive, restore partition I restored a backup of all my files that had been made a few days earlier Time machine. It LOOKED as if all went well, but now I find that one of my Albums, which had well over 150 photos, or iPhoto has only managed to restore 14 of these photos. And this is the most important. As I say, it happened the last time I did this kind of restoration as well.

After I did the Time Machine in the system restore, I was prompted to rebuild the iPhoto database and did, and I was also invited to "import" all of my many boxes to the letters and their content in the mail. So far, it seems that IT worked, but as with iPhoto, most of whose albums DID restore entirely, or at least seem to have done, I fear that there are losses latent God knows where.

I pray that someone can explain to me how this could occur and how to fix it.

In addition, why in the categories among which I must choose are there no category for Time Machine?

Update: some research, the first under the spotlight by a file name the closest to one of the 14 who in the appropriate album, and then, after trying manually drag some of those in the album and being rejected because he claimed that the pictures were already in the iPhoto library, I opened all of the photos in the photo library and finally understood how to sort them by title. And there were all these «lost photos» Try and then drag them into the appropriate album, I have had no joy. It simply wouldn't do. So, I created a new album without title and was able to pass all these photos in this one and then re-name-the.

So, obviously, it is random random sort by Time Machine, put pictures in their albums proper during a restore. Does anyone have an explanation of why this would be the case? If I didn't have a photo of survivor in the game with a title to be used as a means of rallying defined overall in the undifferentiated photo album, I would have needed hours and hours to track them all, and if I had not known instantly that many disappeared after restore, this album, I would never have known even to go look for them.

Of course, one would expect time Machine to do what it is supposed to do in a situation like this?

  • Time Machine restores very, very, very slow!

Hello! After a will using Time Machine for backup of my stuff, I m now in the need to restore the library. Yes, all my memories are gone, due to the said Photo library can´t be use more. So I decided to do the restore, but after 4 days, I only got 200 GB to 240GB total. I m using an account 3 to hard drive, which is connected to my 1 Gbit switch. I m using an iMac (27 inch, end 2012) 3.2 GHz i5 with 8 GB of RAM DDR3 1 TB hard drive, which is also connected to the same switch. According to my lack of knowledge the iMac ethernet card is also 1 GB. So, once again, according to my knowledge, I should have + 120 MB/s transfer rate, but the glance that I had was 25 MB/s.

Another interesting fact, is in the same room, I have an old PC running Windows 10 and transfer files from the same device of account to this PC, I can get 90 MB/s transfer rate.

So, I m wondering if there are some networks relate to configuration that I need to do in order to make the most of the account with the iMac using time machine. Of course I have doc all research with the support account but, since the 'question' it seems to be linked to Time Machine, they push me in that direction!

Thanks in advance for any advice!

  • Time Machine backups fail

I have a Time Capsule 2 TB 4th generation bracket place my 2013 21.5 in iMac running OS 10.11.3. For the two weeks have been a failure my time machine backups. A few nights ago, I was given the opportunity to create a new backup, which I tried to do. However, the new back-up has never been created - says still 'wait to first full backup"status on the menu bar. I am able to access the files on the Time Capsule that aren't in a backup file Time Machine and use Time Capsule as a router. When I enter the Time Machine on the iMac, it appears as if it has never been a comeback upward (which, of course, I guess). I tried to use the repair disk utility - I had to run on the Time Capsule, but it did not help.

    Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

Looks like you receive a message that a few nights under what looked like this:

It is probably the most frightening message that you never see when you use Time Machine, because it shows that your backups were corrupt. Time Machine will try to erase, and then create a new backup.  Unfortunately, sometimes Time Machine fails when it tries to do.

The best thing you can do right now is to perform a deletion process of resetting the data on the Time Capsule disk to completely erase the disk for errors and try again another backup.  If you decide to try this, you must copy all other files you might have on the time Capsule to another disk for temporary storage... unless you already have other copies (you should, otherwise, you have no backups for files on the Time Capsule).

Perform the zero... erase data, which will be probably 3-5 hours or so... should improve your chances of a good Time Machine backup when you restart the process... IF... the last problems were the result of software on the Time Capsule disk errors.

IF... the time Capsule hard drive is physically damaged... which is a possibility... you need to replace the disk in the time Capsule hope forward again.

  • Time Machine restore

I bought a new iMac to replace my current (which is running El Capitan, I might add), but it is not until a few days after my old one was shipped to its new owner. I also have an Apple. Time Machine. Am I right in thinking that I'll be able to transfer data to the new Mac, once it arrives directly from a backup Time Machine, using the Migration or even Installation Wizard, without needing access to the old machine? And if so, no doubt I could speed up the process by temporarily connecting the TM for the new Mac using a cable?

You are right on both points, BUT because things go, sometimes bad things when technology is involved, it would be wise to get a second external hard drive and make an exact clone of your existing system, where you could retrieve if something goes south. Relying on a single backup TM to restore your entire system is playing with fire.

To avoid any confusion on users use Assistant settings.

  • I moved a folder of bookmarks in Safari on my desk to alphabetize it but could not move again. Now, Time Machine restores not Safari where I started. Restoration is grayed out and the office keeps - not editor of bookmarks. TM works well.

I tried to move a subfolder of my bookmarks folder to alphabetize it moving it on my desk. It worked, but I couldn't get back in Safari. So I tried to restore the Time Machine Safari but it brought back my desktop and the button restore is gray. I am running Yosemite on one end of 2013 27-inch Mac. Time machine seems to work ok on other issues.

You can only restore the entire file of bookmarks to a previous state. It is not possible to restore the individual bookmarks.

Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select, then copy it to the Clipboard by pressing Control-C key combination:

If you don't have such a backup, but the Favorites are still present on an iOS (iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch) device that synchronizes with iCloud, then see below.

Save your iOS devices. Turn off sync iCloud Safari on all devices except those. Quit Safari and delete the bookmarks on the Mac, and then enable synchronization Safari on it. Launch Safari. Bookmarks synchronization of your iOS device.
