To access folders in Ubuntu to host Mac

I have an external hard drive formatted in EXT4 that I connect to my VM (12.10) runnign ubuntu on Fusion 5.0.2. Everything works perfectly until I started trying to get access to the HDD from outside ubuntu (from host Mac OSX).  Since Mac cannot directly read format EXT4, connect the player to ubuntu and then I installed Samba to share the drive.  I know there's milion how you how to share folders on the host (Mac) in the virtual machine, but what I need is the reverse, how to access the share drive in Ubuntu to Mac.  I know the hard way, which is that I reconfigure the network of the VM to be on the same subnet as the Mac and then I can access but y at - it a config settings file (vmx file) that I can do to access the host OS VM shares?

Thank you

Access to a shared resource in a Virtual Machine is no different, and then access a resource shared a physical machine to act accordingly!

Take a look to: Finder > help > connecting to shared computers and servers using a network (or similar depending on version of OS X.) address

However, you have configured virtual machine network map, then use the IP address to guest OS to access.  Regardless if you have configured default NAT (share with my Mac) or using only (private on my Mac) host or bridge, if so, you should be able to access the shared resource while providing the appropriate, where credentials and when that takes place. (I, I have no problem regardless of the network type that I use all.)

  • Can't access file system host (MAC) shared in VMware vCenter Converter Standalone Client when wanting to create a VMware image (Windows 7 in Parallels virtual machine running on a MAC) for the option of machine Powered On.

File HOST (Mac) system is currently shared in the Parallels virtual machine and is accessible through Windows Explorer and works correctly in the Virtual Machine environment, however, after installing vCenter Converter application on the Windows virtual machine these shared folders are not accessible from the conversion tool in the selection of the target destination of the file VMware (s). I can't select an existing folder on drive "C:" to write the image so that there is not enough space available for the VMware image and it must be written in a different file system, while the image is being created.

Anyone know a way around it to show the target to write the image on the host (MAC OS) file system or is it a bug?

Thanks for the reply.  It seems that the maps are not displayed if they were created as actions by the hosts.  When I created a mapping directly from Windows, then this mapping appeared and the conversion worked fine.

  • Folders/disks Accesing VM host

This happens all the time and do not know how to fix it.

With the help of 10 work stations.

I access host (Windows 8) records of VM disks (WXP SP3) with windows Explorer. But, on the contrary, to access the folders/disk VM to host, is difficult to obtain. Sometimes works and sometimes doesn't.

I opened windows 8' windows Explorer and while opening network, sometimes I see VM disks, but not always. If I update the content then, sometimes, they appear. OT most of the time they aren't. When I get appeared them, after some time work right, they disappear again.

recommend ID it as a drive mapping, \\hostmachine\c$

or even create/share a drive on the host of the virtual machine, and then it mapping.

in this way, that you don't have to depend on crap for the automatic work of Windows network share.

  • How to access a VM Ubuntu running on Windows 7?

I have the free reader of running virtual machine in Windows 7 with a Ubuntu VM (it's IP address ends in par.21.) Everything works well.

The IP address of the machine Windows 7 itself ends SS.19

I tried to access, in this case, Tomcat on the Unbuntu VM on Windows like this: 192.168.168.21:8080/manager

(to display the Tomcat Manager application)

    However, it does not connect.

I can connect to Tomcat running on Windows 7 itself, that is, is not running in the virtual machine, however.

It works to access the Tomcat separate Windows: 192.168.168.19:8080/manager

I was wondering if someone can explain what is required to access the VM Ubuntu running on Windows 7 from another computer on the network.

Another test using different operating systems, if I start the Ubuntu VM using VM Fusion (on mac), same IP as shown above, then I peut access the Tomcat Manager of Mac application.

    Source of confusion.

    Hope that answers.

    I figured this out.

The problem was that I had to be on the W7 machine to access the VM Ubuntu on this machine (not doing one double jump IP from another machine: machine->-> Ubuntu VM W7). Duh!

  • Files saved to merge "Shared folder ' between host Mac OS and virtual Mac OS not opening not.»

    Hello

If I save a file in the folder "Shared" my host Mac OS machine merging, I can open it only on my host machine, but not inside my virtual machine to Mac OS.  In addition, it shows the incorrect file type in the virtual machine (just 'Document') not the actual file type.

The reverse is also true, if I record a 'Shared' file of Fusion of in my virtual machine, I can open it only on my virtual machine, but not inside the host machine.  Again, it shows the incorrect file type in the real (just "Document") not the file type host machine.

The files must be for the most part very well, because they will open in their own environment of the shared folder, but the Mac OS in the Middle against a reason any won't open them.  Suggestions?

    Thank you

    -Jeff

Solved...  I just need to add 3-digit extensions of file names (for example, .jpg, .psd, etc.) that normally may not be needed in your own environment, but apparently are required when files are in a shared folder.

  • Upgrading to 4 Fusion and now I can't access the web server on my Mac host

I am running OS x 10.6.8 and I'm hosting a virtual machine running windows XP, using NAT Networking. I have a web server running on the mac I need to access from the hosted virtual machine. I used to be able to just use the IP address of the gateway in the virtual machine for the web server, but it doesn't seem to work. If I set the external IP address of the mac it seems to work, but I don't have a static IP address, so it is a pain to update every hour.

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Thank you

Although in some cases, the IP address of the gateway works, nevertheless IMO that is a misuse and should use the address IP of VMware NAT Virtual Ethernet adapter IP address the host not IP address of gateway.

If in a Terminal, run the following command:

    ifconfig | grep -A 3 vmnet8

Then use the address after "inet" IP said at the exit.

    Example on my system:

Last login: Mon Jan 16 12:43:00 on ttys000
    Computer:~ WKZ$ ifconfig | grep -A 3 vmnet8
    vmnet8: flags=8863 mtu 1500
        ether 00:50:56:c0:00:08
        inet 172.16.198.1 netmask 0xffffff00 broadcast 172.16.198.255
    Computer:~ WKZ$

So I use 172.16.198.1 of the prompt or use the host name of the Mac (without the .local) after the addition of 172.16.198.1 and the hostname of the Mac to the guest hosts file.

  • machine Ubuntu 10.04 copied host Mac (fusion) to 7 lost Workstation network eth0

I wanted to distribute VM, I 'pre configured' to my students. I prepare the machines on VMware FUSION 3.1 on Snow Leopard (Mac).

I have problems in college class configuration: I copy fully operational files of the directory with an Ubuntu 10.04 (with the latest VMware tools installed on Mac) on Windows 7 PC running Workstation 7.

The machine copied boots under 7 workstation, but eth0 fails to start and the loopback interface is available. Not very useful as a 'server '.

I tried NAT, connected by a bridge and host-only for the machine: no change.

I removed and replaced the control panel of the virtual machine interface: no effect.

Comments are welcome - especially if others have the same problem.

    Prof. Peter Goedtkindt

    Hello Peter,.

I have not checked this for Ubuntu 10.04 but the same problem appeared on earlier versions of ubuntu and it isn't really a question of VMware.

Let me explain, I think what is happening is that you are not using "copy" when the question "have you you move or copy this virtual machine" appears.

Copy is the answer if you want to use clones in the same network, but it has a side effect.

This means that the NETWORK card receives a new Mac address and UUID. Due to this udev is of the opinion that there is a new network interface.

You can check the/etc/iftab(5) and interfaces.

In Ubuntu 8.04, the solution to this problem was simply remove the associating rule udev and restart.

    sudo rm /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules
    sudo reboot

The start-up of the ubuntu installation should recreate this file. (Sure do make a copy before you delete the file)

I don't know if the solution of "throw the udev rule" still works for 10.04, but I'd be surprised if it's not

    Hope this helps,
