To upgrade my Harddrive X60s

Hello

I have an X60s - 1702 5nu - which is very very slow.  I want to run faster and also have a lot more drive hard (it is currently 100G).

I'm REALLY not very technical and so I have a few questions:

(1) what can I do it myself?  OR I have to have this done to me?

(2) what are my options to hard drive?  How big of a hard drive are available for an X60s?

(3) where is the best place to buy a new hard drive?

(4) what should I watch the upgrade to make this machine run beter/more fast?

Thank you in advance!

(1) you can change the hd yourself. There are enough good maintenance manuals that explain how to replace replaceable units on site.

(2) you can replace your hard drive with any size you want.

3) supports your local dealer.

(4) you can update your RAM. How you have installed now?

    Welcome to the forum!

Outside parts, you first need a modded BIOS.

  • IMAC being run on 10.6.8. but what are the upgrade options

I have growing issues with 10.6.8 running for example music controller Sonos, Safari with Google browser compatibility, etc.

My iMAC10.1 has Intel Core 2 Duo processor running at 3.06 GHz with 3 MB of L2 Cache and 2 * 2 GB of DDR3 memory

So I need to upgrade but at what level and what make the difference in the system configuration required, functionality and compatibility with other software?  Where can you get the software from and how is this - I recall a quote from Apple for a free upgrade to one of the most recent operating system, but at the time was not interested.

I use Microsoft Office 2008 and wish to continue

I use extensively in molding and iPhoto iTunes

I sync my Apple iCal and address book with Google

I guess what never updated, I do, I'll have to do a system back up but how do I do that - I have a 1 TB external harddrive but formatted it my laptop, so I guess I should change it, whether I use it or is it possible this partition so I can use it with windows and MAC OS.  Spare my MAC HDD built in 1 TB and currently using 411 GB

Advice on options to upgrade and save very welcome process.

It's a long question with a long answer, so here are the main things that you should consider before the update...

    1. all power PC based applications is more run in OS X 10.7 Lion or later version. The most often affected app (launching Lion) was Quicken. To find out exactly what apps do not work anymore,  > about this Mac > system information. On the software tab, click Applications. This should show what 'type' of applications you have. Whatever it is based on Intel will work while Power PC don't either not working or require an update, as is the case with Microsoft Office.

    2. you can upgrade your RAM. I think that your computer comes with two 2 GB sticks, for a total of 4 GB. It is usually more than enough because each OS X updated as the Lion needs only 2 GB. Remember that RAM can age just like car tires and sometimes it is better to replace the RAM you have. You can always install a more recent OS and see how it works and then decide to install RAM later. You can use sites such as RAM Crucial or you can buy directly from Apple. Crucial is much cheaper and delivered their RAM quickly. They guarantee also the RAM will work and provide a computer "scan", you can download and it will tell you what RAM to buy. I have used this site for 3 different Apple computers and don't have any problems so far. A computer is a MacBook in 2006 that still works!

    3. do your research. Contact the manufacturer of the software that you are concerned about. Office 2009 should work fine as long as it is installed on the computer before update you. Once the update of the BONE occurs, you will have a relatively large update for all Microsoft Office applications to make them compatible with the new operating system software. The Adobe Suite (Photoshop, Bridge, etc.) has had some problems in the past, but I think it works fine now.

All the built in Apple apps update automatically and ask you to "update your library." This may take some time, but is a matter of time. Automator and Dropbox still work as well, but drop-down list will need updates. I would check the Web site of the manufacturer for your other software as I am not familiar with all of your programs.

Note that iPhoto turns Photos if you update to Yosemite 10.10.3. This is a brand new application and some people don't like him because he is different than iPhoto. Personally, I think it has the same features, it's just different. Also iDVD can no longer be installed on a computer that is updated to OS X Lion. If iDVD is installed before the update, it will continue to work as expected

4 Time Machine backup. Yes, you want to back up, and Yes, you can use your drive current external hard to to do. But there are a few hiccups that you need to treat it first. In order to use your external hard drive for Mac and Windows, you will need to format the external hard drive to FAT32 using disk utility. THIS ERASES ALL CONTENT ON THE EXTERNAL DRIVE. So, if you want to format the drive, you'll want to play everything on the hard drive first.

If you want to know formatting the external drive for use with Time Machine, see this articleand follow the steps for a volume of start fail.

Note the types of format: Mac OS extended (journaled) should be used with Macs isn't FAT 32 for Mac and PC and MSDOS FAT is for PC only.

To start initial Time Machine backup, see this article.

    5. Finally, your computer has a 1 TB hard drive and your external drive is 1 TB. In theory, you want to use a disk backup that is twice the size of your hard drive, or at least twice the size of current data on your computer (in your Go 411 cases). Use an external 1 TB drive for backup of 411 GB of data should be good for awhile, but eventually, it will fill the external drive. If you partition the external to work with Windows and Mac OS X, it fills up even faster since there will be less space dedicated to the Mac. Honestly, I would erase the external drive set up using Mac OS extended (journaled) and use it exclusively for Mac backups and then buy a second external for use between computers. It is better to have a single external drive for Time Machine, and it is preferable to use the Mac on FAT 32 format when using Time Machine.

I hope this helps. You have many options on your plate. Ultimately the decision to upgrade is yours. I've always updated because I like having the latest and greatest and I have not had too many snags, but you will get a different answer from different people.

    Good luck

  • Pavilion 15-ab032tx: upgrade to 10 windows and need to reinstall, but I only have win 8.1 recovery disk.

Last year I bought a computer hp laptop ab032tx, at the time ' it came with windows 8.1 out of the box. Following the instructions, I made the recovery disc. It was windows 10 launched before. Once windows 10 was released, I immediately upgraded to windows 10. Everything works well so far, but recently, I noticed starting times are long, and things take a lot of time to load. That's why I want to change the 1 TB for one ssd harddrive (a samsung 850 pro, to be exact). But the thing is I want to keep the windows 10.  But the 8.1 windows installation disc.  And since I've already updated I don't know if my current product key will work with windows 8.1. If I download windows 10 microsoft Web site and put it in a USB key, it'll work? Do I have to disable my current product first key (if it is still possible, in other words)? Help, please

    Hello

You should be fine and there is no need to disable the current installation.

When you switch from an operating system prior to Windows 10, activation records server a hardware profile on your machine - small changes (like changing a ssd) are almost always very well, while more significant changes (ie the map system to swapping) generally do not.

I personally traded readers several times, then clean installed Windows 10 and he has never had any problems with activation.

As long as your current installation of Windows 10 activated Ok after upgrading 8.1, you can just perform a new installation as described in the guide on the following link.  Note: On the activation screen, select "I have not a product key" - Windows will activate automatically once installation is complete.

  • Install Vista on the new hard drive with upgrade media

Original harddrive in Lenovo has failed. I replaced but didn't have a recovery disk. I bought Windows Ultimate up grade, and he scored when I installed the new drive. After the initial installation, new drive must be reformatted (again). Now windows says my registration number is already installed. It was purchased by me and installed on my original Lenovo machine. I have the original product code on the back of my Lenovo and the new product code on Vista Ultimate box. What can I do to register again? Thank you. Mike

You must first install the original operating system and activate.  THEN install the Vista upgrade and which activate.  You can't ignore all during the installation of the original operating system.  You can't do a full install of a drive to upgrade (or product key).  I suggest that contact the manufacturer for a set of discs of recovery of re - install the original system.  It is the only way that this is possible.

    I hope this helps.

    Good luck!

  • Upgrade to a ThinkPad X 230

I have a ThinkPad X 230 with a 500 GB hard drive (2306-CTO). When I bought it, I also bought a Lenovo Slim USB Portable DVD Burner (DY-8A8NH13C). The DVD device works well to install software from a CD or a DVD.

    I want to upgrade this computer to a 1 TB harddrive (A 0, 65633)

    1. the hard drive of 1 to A 0, 65633 will fit in X 230. In other words, replace the existing drive with the new 1 TB drive?

    2. the 1 TB drive is 5400 RPM while the existing 500 GB drive is 7200 RPM. It has been almost 10 years that I used anything slower than 7200 RPM. The 1 TB drive will be slow?

    3. as if it is a new drive (without recovery partitions), can I order Recovery DVD from Lenovo for the X 230?  I think I can.

    4. can I start the first DVD of recovery since the DVD Slim USB device?  Which will work? or do I need to buy a docking station?

    5. I have not changed the UEFI security at all in the BIOS. Can I just start the recovery DVDs?  and it will even install?

I guess I could do that in November after releasing the Windows 8.1, and combine the two upgrades (HDD and Windows 8.1) in one year.

I could wait until a faster 1 TB drive is released. Do you fast hard drives of 1 TB in the near future?

    Thank you... JHR

Most of the Board hard drive Lenovo delivered with the current system is a SATAII version. But if you put a SATAIII version in the system, it will work also.

P.S. Platter hard drive can not yet use all the bandwidth of even the standard SATAI (1.5 Gbps), so if they operate in SATAII or SATAIII mode is not really a problem either they will affect the performance of the system.

I would recommend the hard drive with large cache, if it's a reasonable price, since it will be slightly faster (don't worry the SATAII or marketing gimmick for turntable SATAIII hard it's useless).

The analogy that I use to do this, it's like a Toyota Camry similarly specification with a speedometer saying top speed of 200 km/h with 300 km/h. You can get the illusion of faster speed with the Camry showing top speed of 300 km/h, but in reality that you will never be able to drive faster than the 180 mph in one of them.

I'm looking to upgrade my GPU without having to touch my food or any other room in my XPS 8300. I am running with processor i5 to 3.00 GHz, 16 GB RAM and 1 TB harddrive (from what I remember off the top of my head since I'm at work). I read in many places that GTX 750 it would be a fine upgrade without having a problem of PSU or of the motherboard, but before buying, I thought I would ask if everything would be fine without compatibility issues. The link here is the card I have planned to go with, but wanted to know if there is all the more powerful cards out there that I can possibly use. I always use my AMD HD 5450 stock card that's why I'm planning an upgrade. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I sell my X 51 R1 to a friend because I want to get a new computer. He asked me the upgrade of the GPU, and it is difficult to find accurate answers anywhere else. I still have the power that comes with it and I think it is 240w, but I am not sure. So what graphics cards are compatible with the X 51 R1? Specifications of mine are:

    • i5-3330 @3 ghz
    • 6 GB of ram
    • GeForce GT640
    • 1 TB harddrive

  • No service after upgrade the server to 5.2 on El Capitan

I have a web server that was doing very well until I left the 5.2 update suggested to install OS X Server. I can't get to broadcast web pages. Screen sharing works always and nothing has changed on the routers, etc.

I restarted the server after the update and restarted the server itself several times but keep getting connection via a browser failures.

I did the upgrade even on other servers as well as the upgrade of Sierra. This server is running El Capitan, and is the only one that gave me problems. 5.2 server is not compatible with El Capitan?

    Some additional info:

I can connect to the server through ftp and other services; just no web service.

Port tests show that port 80 is not blocked

Using the IP address I can get to the window of the home server.

    Accessibility means no services available

Websites is on and I can't find anything that is not defined in law or is different than before the update.

  • I've never done a Time Machine backup and I have upgraded to iOS Sierra. Help!

I'm a fool. After owning my Macbook for 5 years, I failed to make a single Time Machine backup. I just saved my essential to an external hard drive. I have upgraded to iOS Sierra. Big mistake. I want to go back to iOS Capitan, but it does not seem possible. Now, my external hard drive is wiped clean (things are dark). What are my options? If I'm stuck with Sierra?

If you have downloaded El Capitan, it should always be available in your purchases. Now, you will need to make a backup to backup your personal files.
