Toshiba L305D-S5881 overheating with Ubuntu Linux 8.0.4

I have a Toshiba L305D - S5881 AMD Turion X 2 dual core RM70 with Vista installed on it.
I reparted and installed Ubuntu 8.0.4 with dual boot. After reading the forums was able to
to get the wireless working on it as well (Atheros Chipset)... it took some effort.

Then I noticed that the laptop is running abnormally high time. The Ubuntu forum Guys tell me
It is a problem with the dsdt.dsl file used by ACPI. The time to show by/proc/acpi/ThermalZone/temperature
are systematically 65 ° C or above and ever-increasing fan State is constantly off as well and does not seem to
put on anything.

Is there a fix TOSHIBA for this laptop (IE a BIOS, which will generate the correct dsdt with the Intel compiler)?

If anyone successfully running Ubuntu or another version of linux on this laptop without overheating and
with wireless active, I'd love to hear about it.

Thank you and best regards

Peter

I found a website of Toshiba with Linux information, models, etc...

If you have a Toshiba laptop that seems to be overheating in Linux (like Ubuntu Linux), it is likely that this is due to bad "DSDT tables" (which refers to such things as energy saving) in the laptop.

    Hello.

It seems that this laptop uses a Modem Chip Askey (Lucent)
I see only one way to use this modem in Linux.
You must look for the modem a pilot who takes in charge this chip and is designed for the installation of Linux.

It s very difficult to find the right driver for Linux because there are a lot of different Linux distributions and not all drivers will work.

  • Toshiba overheating with Linux

    Dear Toshiba

leaving all to AMD/ATI site is shameful for your buyers using linux. It is not linux job to try to make a driver out of their proprietary drivers.

They have already ERASED all the legacy links page for installation of catalyst 13.1, which, at best, would force the user of ubuntu linux to return the path of the core 3.8 back to 2.6... but not even that it is possible. They think that its so old, they erase all PAGES of DIRECTIONS!

I just bought this satellite with AMD Mobility Radeon 3100 rs780 LAST a YEAR and I expect you to take care of your linux - this card users fried the laptop overheating and after owning 3 toshiba satellite, I then won't buy your product because of the lack of support and only sell WINDOWS based laptops.

Don't care when installing AMD/ATI, which does not support linux, you drive your customers away?
Do you care that these offers of manufacturer of component you chose, not allowing support for linux, drive your customers away?

Do you can not select a manufacturer of the graphics card that supports linux only for a few minutes before shooting their 404 error pages?

The world hates Windows systems now, don't you know that?
Mr. Gates is corrupt and thief. Maybe he wants to ruin Toshiba sales.

    >... and I expect you to take care of your linux users
Respect for your opinion, but there are a few facts and in my opinion, it will not change in the future. As you probably know Toshiba doesn't support Linux and doesn t offer any substance for Linux if you can't wait for something like that.

Laptop Toshiba computers are delivered with operating systems Windows and some models without operating system, but they are completely Windows supported.

  • I want to buy Toshiba laptop with Ubuntu and windows

I want to buy a new laptop.
I don't want to pay 300 quid for yet another stupid Windows (if they are just a version properly, people don't need to keep buying new... oh wait... they make more money...).

Others don't offer laptops with Ubuntu (and not windows).

I find myself here, and Toshiba appear also does not provide laptops without windows.
Why? Why Toshiba offer laptops with pre-installed Ubuntu with no windows?

I use Ubuntu for 3 years, and altogether, he transformed my daily calculation. No more bloody virus, not 5 minutes log-ins/closures, no more program - crashing down the entire system. It is faster, safer, more flexible and * free *.

But because Toshiba do not appear to offer it, they can't get my habit (I'm in Ireland, so Toshiba options open to me may be different in other countries).

    Hello

First of all it s a forum from user to user and you get no response from Toshiba here in the forum.

But as much as I know that Toshiba laptops are not delivered with the distributions Linux.
Of course, you can install Linux if you want, but laptops are delivered with the Windows operating system. As far as I know with win 7 64 bit and 32 bit OS.

I think you will not be able to use under Linux, but this is just my personal opinion.

  • Satellite P50 - B - 11 M - Ubuntu Linux usage

    Hello.

I'm about to buy a Satellite P50 - B - 11 M, but I do not know if Ubuntu/Mint (that I use for work) works perfectly on this machine, since the Ubuntu Certified Desktop page does not list any machine of your brand.

Can you help me? Someone test the machine on these operating systems? Toshiba after drivers on the Ubuntu repositories?

    Thank you.

    Hello

Pending a response from the community, why not try?
Ubuntu comes as a direct medium that allows you to run as a complete desktop experience without touching anything that is installed on your PC.
You can then check that the devices work.

    Associated with Toshiba-drivers.
Linux does not work on Windows in this sense. The drivers are rarely (Yes it happens, but very rare) provided as a separate download.
They are normally included in the kernel packages which mean that they are available at the same time.

    Good luck and have fun!

Toshiba Satellite L305d-s5881 AMD Turion 2 GHz

    Hello

As I see you have a model of cell phone US. I checked the U.S. Toshiba download page, and I see there is not so many drivers for Windows XP available home edition and your laptop isn't totally WXP supported. So when you install Windows XP Home edition you will have problems to find all the necessary drivers.

There is no driver chipset or display. Current drivers are missing and I don't really know what you can do about it. Of course, you can try to install these drivers of page European and I hope that they will not work correctly.

Check http://eu.computers.toshiba-europe.com > support & downloads and choose Satellite L300D.
You will find all the available drivers for Windows XP Home edition. As I've written before, I hope that you can use. I have no experience with the American models.

I just got the updated BIOS version 3.30 on my Tecra A11/M11 invitation.
I'm still under Win7 now, but plan to add a dual boot with Ubuntu when the next LTS strikes in April.

Is anyone having problems with the new BIOS?

I don't find any evidence of trouble with 3,20.

Why upgrade BIOS if everything is OK?

In addition to as much as I know that Toshiba can't stand not the Linux operating system, and I doubt that the new BIOS would improve any Linux performance so, if you are satisfied with the version 3.20, stay with that

I hate Vista. It freezes and mess. It's Horrible!

Please help someone, I don't know if I will last another day on Vista.

Unfortunately I can't help you with Linux, but I think you should try to verify some of the Linux forums. Toshiba is not compatible with Linux and you will be very happy if someone here can help you.

  • The volume control on the Satellite Pro A200 with Ubuntu 7.10

I have a Satellite Pro A200GE-1F9, I did recently to dual boot with Vista and Ubuntu 7.10. It's the first time I used Linux and most things are going well so far.

However, the volume control (a wheel at the front of the laptop) does not control the volume correctly with Ubuntu, rather than increase the volume smoothly as with Vista, it increases in a 1/8 of maximum volume jumps, the on-screen volume control is always smooth. I think that it is at least partly due to the change of a material volume wheel, as with the latest Toshiba, I have used, for a version of software based. It controls the system volume and runs continuously, without stop at maximum or minimum volumes.

Does anyone know how to change this change in volume for a smooth jump?

    Thanks for any help

    Hello

given that no one here has no idea, nor pilots, nor any information about the driver from toshiba support, nobody will be able to give you some useful information.

Have you ever google and checked the ubuntu forums? According to me, which will bring you closer the source here instead.
So just to start to ask in the ubuntu forums because I think that someone is there who maybe has the same problem as you.

I hope that artistry a kind of programmer. ;)

  • Satellite L305D-S5881 scratches and hazing on surface.

    Hello

my lap top model is a Satellite L305D-S5881. I had accidentally scratched the around the keyboard of my laptop and it is very visible. So I did some research on how to remove scratches. A website says to use the toothpaste on the scratch to remove it, so I did. Unfortunately, it got even worse. Now, a scratch is surrounded by a lot of mini stripes which I think you call hazing and horrible. My question is,

"It is possible to buy a new suitcase Tour not a cover or a bag, what I mean is the part that covers and protects the hard drive, etc...".

and if not possible, ' nobody knows how to remove the hazing or NOT scratches on the surface of the computer screen? Is it possible to use a bit of car to remove the hazing or scratches? How about an all goal scratch remover? »

    Thank you!

    > "Is it possible to buy a new laptop cover, not a cover or a bag, what I mean is the part that covers and protects the drive hard, etc."

Do you mean the mobile upper and lower plastic covers?
I think you can buy these parts only with the service provider authorized in your country! Parts must be ordered from the Toshiba

    > Is anyone know how to remove the hazing or NOT scratches on the surface of the computer screen?
I doubt that this is possible because I think that scratches are on the plastic cover and you can't repolish the surface plastic.

It might be possible to furbish and refinishing the entire surface, but this means that you will need to disassemble the whole laptop and that would cancel your warranty.

I think the best solution is to contact the ASP technician who could replace the scratched plastic cover.

  • HP DV6 series and its combabilities with Ubuntu?

I want to buy a new laptop, actually between the toshiba a505 and the HP Pavilion DV6.
But I read on the forums that the toshiba works well with linux and ubuntu, so I looked for the HP.

My question: it's the HP DV6 dv6-2152ee (WM947EA) works well with ubuntu or any what linux derived?

Dv6-2060ea works on Ubuntu. It's almost the same computer laptop dv6-2152(core i5) but with the core i7 processor. It should work without problem on Ubuntu. I don't know on the other Buntus, as Kubuntu, Xubuntu, Medibuntu, Mythbuntu, Easybuntu etc., but on Gnome works very well...

My opinion is that the laptop works on Ubuntu, openSUSE and Sabayon linux but does not work on Debian. There is a problem with the graphics card I suppose...

  • How to upgrade my browser Firefox with Ubuntu?

Yahoo no longer works with my old Firefox browser.

    I only work with ubuntu.

where can I get an upgrade?

    Thank you!

You could try to update your version of distro (Canon) of Firefox but IIRC the version of Ubuntu, you seem to be on 8.04 LTS (Lucid) cannot provide official updates of Firefox (or probably other software such as Open Office/LibreOffice).

You can switch to a new version of Ubuntu, possibly 12,04 LTS (accurate). I use. Accurate will a newer version of Firefox, which updated the Installer Firefox distribution.

The other alternative is to install Mozilla Firefox. Who will install an additional browser. For purposes of comparison and evaluation, I also run several versions of Mozilla Firefox. Let me know if you need further information.

You may need to consider using a second profile Firefox, or the transfer of bookmarks etc between versions of Firefox or the operating system.
