Toshiba Ubuntu repositories

I'm adding some repositories in my apt, but by mistake I deleted the sources.list file. I don't want back from CD, should be possible to find the repository info somewhere?

Thank you very much

This problem occurs when you use the menu of ubuntu GUI written by toshiba, I think, because if you use ALT - F1, everything goes fast.

    Hello!

It is a known issue on Windows systems. If you n t use the WLAN and connect to the local network and you have active DHCP it will takes a lot of time on start up because the operating system tries to get an IP address from the DHCP server.

Try to assign a static IP address, and the problem should be solved.

  • Satellite P50 - B - 11 M - Ubuntu Linux usage

    Hello.

I'm about to buy a Satellite P50 - B - 11 M, but I do not know if Ubuntu/Mint (that I use for work) works perfectly on this machine, since the Ubuntu Certified Desktop page does not list any machine of your brand.

Can you help me? Someone test the machine on these operating systems? Toshiba after drivers on the Ubuntu repositories?

    Thank you.

    Hello

Pending a response from the community, why not try?
Ubuntu comes as a direct medium that allows you to run as a complete desktop experience without touching anything that is installed on your PC.
You can then check that the devices work.

    Associated with Toshiba-drivers.
Linux does not work on Windows in this sense. The drivers are rarely (Yes it happens, but very rare) provided as a separate download.
They are normally included in the kernel packages which mean that they are available at the same time.

    Good luck and have fun!

  • How to install on Ubuntu 12.04 Xulrunner?

    Hey.

I tried to implement the gecko engine, following this tutorial: https://wiki.mozilla.org/Embedding/NewApi/GtkLinux

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to install the perl package 'xulrunner-1, 9 - dev', because it is no longer available on Ubuntu 12.04.

    What should I do?

I solved the problem in the XULRunner download and install it manually.
Hope, xulrunner-dev will soon be in the ubuntu repositories.

  • What are good Options for installing Linux on a Mac?

I have a Macbook Air in 2013 with a SSD 256 GB and 8 GB of memory. I have 80 GB free. I have Hyperacusis and had problems with a noisy computer a few years back, so wanted to avoid noisy readers.

I need to be able to access my files from either OS X / Mac OS or Linux. This is the biggest problem. If I can't work on the same files in OS X / Mac OS and Linux, I can't really do much with Linux.

I have trouble with some accessibility problems in OS x:

    1. I have sensory problems and need to disable more animation and more still of the blinking cursor. I used a hack to disable flashing cursors in some applications, but it does not work in LibreOffice, Pages, Mail, etc. It should work in Scrivener, and I plan to spend to Scrivener. He also works in bean and Textedit.

    2. I have problems of coordination/proprioception and could use the wider scroll bars. I currently use Scroll + scroll software, but it doesn't go anywhere. I could use a version of sticky keys, but the current version is not yet there. It shows the active keys on the screen, but I need to update t on the keyboard.

I will need to avoid some problems of accessibility on Linux:

    1. I have sensory problems and you will need to disable the animation and flashing cursors. I need to be able to boot Linux with minimum brightness. I tried Kde always open in blinding brightness.

    2. I have problems of coordination/proprioception and need to disable the touchpad gestures and listen; This required a patch kernel in Ubuntu, which meant running a non - lts version, which meant not being not able to use the Ubuntu repositories after support missed. I need to be able to keep the visible scroll bars and expand their. Sometimes, I need to use a software of scrolling.

One option is to use refined and a full install. It's intimidating. I'm done with installation of Xubuntu broke at some point because it crashed while it was installing. Another option is to use VMWare Fusion or Parallels or an equivalent Mac of Wubi.

One of these options would allow me to access my files from Linux? Those who would work with my lack of experience and power limited processor programming limited disk space?

    Thank you.

Yes, I would say that all VMs are options to save money, I would try to go with oracle virtualbox, it is free I use osx to run a Windows 10 and machines virtual ubuntu it allows me to access the files across, although you mind a program under osx, maybe not 100% safe to use the same format as the same program under linux so that could cause a problem if this is the case.

  • Linux distro with which it would work on Satellite A100?

    Hi guys,.
My laptop is Satellite A100-011 and im having problems to choose a working linux distribution. I tried SuSE 10.1, SuSE 9.3 and Knoppix 5.1.1 but none of them doesn't work. Respectively - the first takes too long scan the system, the second goes down while the installation program is running and the live cd knoppix couldn't even managed to load - an error (although I don't exactly know it)
    Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

    Hello!

You can try Kubuntu 7.04 Feisty Fawn. Installation process is quiet easy (but be careful with partitioning, because the default schema can erase the disc). You will not have problems with wifi, because the distribution of a native Intel drivers for your card. If the sound card is compatible with SoundBlaster, must be nor any problem with this, and if not, there are some howtos to turn the sound on the wiki of Ubuntu (Kubuntu is exactly the same system as Ubuntu, but with KDE instead of Gnome preinstalled). Ubuntu repositories contain nVidia drivers too.

Oh, the installation of Kubuntu program sometimes has problems with partitioning manual, but installed on partitions already prepared (for example using another distribution Setup) is a nice solution for this.

    Good luck! :)

    Kind regards
    Orzech

  • Ubuntu on Toshiba Satellite U940 - startup of: SSD

    Hi guys,.

I think buy Toshiba Satellite U940. The reason is that he a dimmable-up ultrabook so I'll buy 16 GB of ram and a 120 GB of msata SSD. I'm going to install ubuntu. But because I'm not sure that two important things, I would ask you first.

    1. can you the msata SSD was seen directly from the bios? I want to install ubuntu on it and also to have my case start and all programs there. I ask this question because I read somewhere msata SSD it is only for the purpose of the cache and cannot be seen directly because it is in RAID mode. So can we get around this thing from the bios? I just only to manipulate the msata SSD as a disk driver normal in my bones. It is this possible?

2 are all drivers for Toshiba Satellite available for ubuntu linux U940?

Thank you guys for your time.
    Harry

    Hi Harry

Good to hear about your projects!

I can't answer your question exactly since I don't have the necessary information to do so.
However, I can tell you some things that can help!

The RAID configuration is purely software-rendering. So it can be removed from f.ex Ubuntu disk-tool.
I installed Fedora on the U840 and U940 that have the same RAID on an internal SSD flash drive and internal HARD drive.

The RAID can easily be removed and that make storage devices appears as installation targets unique (e.g. SDA and SDB).

However, I can't tell you if any data 3' rd party SSD will work in the U940.

My Setup was when I used the 32 GB SSD as a target for the OS - which is actually a LOT of space for an OS Lnux.
The internal HARD disk has been mounted as HOME.
In this way, I had the speed of the SSD for all operations of the system (boot, updates...) while having massive storage HARD drive for personal data.

Regarding the drivers, I think in addition to the basic features should work (WiFi, screen, sound, etc).
In my tests, I noticed (but is no intensive testing is) no problem don't except the backlight on the keypad was not working on older kernels.

  • Toshiba, make Linux - Ubuntu drivers for USB bluetooth

Toshiba, please make good Linux - Ubuntu drivers for your USB bluetooth. I was unpleasantly surprised noting that there is no driver available for Ubuntu. Please could someone explain THE reason for such a policy failed to Ubuntu users?

The problem is Ubuntu here. The Bluetooth adapter is directly connected to the USB bus, so it should work without any problems if the OS is delivered with the appropriate software to Bluez. Try to update your Ubuntu installation (apt - get update). Make sure bluez is correctly installed.

  • Ubuntu 10.04 Toshiba NB550D Bluetooth and the microphone does not

I use Ubuntu 10.04 on Toshiba NB550D. I like it. I've updated to 4 GB of RAM so... 1 GB seemed crazy to me... and I am a user of power... but not a gamer. The laptop has replaced my work computer. I have plug into my 24 "LCD at work and get beautiful HD resolutions.

My only frustration at this stage is that the microphone and bluetooth both do not seem to work. Until someone told me that Toshiba does not support linux on this hardware... I know. However, someone at - it this work themselves? I'd love to hear about your experience.

    THX,

    Fenton

    Hi Fenton

With regard to the Bluetooth - I think the NB550D uses a list drop-down-card Atheros WLAN and Bluetooth. Am I wrong?
If so, there seems to be general problem getting the BT works correctly, wireless works well however.
I filed a bug on Fedora Bugzilla regarding this problem on a R830 - uses the same module I think.
    Link: [https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=734369]

Concerning firstly the mic - basics:

-did you check the audio input settings and increase the logging level?
-have you tried an external mic? You can for testing purposes use a headset / headphones as a microphone as they work exactly the same. You may have to shout to get any input however :)

If the external mic works you can try to start the machine on 11.04 or maybe even a pre-release version of 11.10.
This is to see if the MIC - the problem is resolved.
If so, I think that a few searches on Google will provide you with a solution!

In any case, let us know your findings, so we can help you.

    See you soon
