  Your i-device was not designed for unique storage of your media. It is not that a transfer backup device and media has been planned with you keep a master copy of your media on a computer that is in itself independently supported against loss.  To use a device with a different configuration, you pass the old library from a computer or a backup directly in the new configuration, not the device to the library. Synchronization of media isn't a way, computer to the device, update the contents of the device to the content on the computer, update or restore the content on a computer.   If you have a new machine and you just want to install software or backups, you can do it on the Apple Store. The process can last a few minutes.

  Or you could request assistance phone Apple help once you get your machine. (It's one of your benefits as a new Mac owner.) Or ask one of the people on this forum for further assistance - without having to drive to your Apple Store with a big iMac.

  Get an external drive, you can connect to your old computer via the USB port. Clone the old disk on the external drive:

  The same way you copy data from any drive to any other player.  Do not let the name of Secure Digital (SD) stupid - there is nothing special about a SD card, storage is the same as a USB is.  Simply copy the files by drag-and - move or by using a command prompt and a utility like ROBOCOPY.
