Transfer of license of Windows 7 from my dead laptop

If I try to use my W7HB product key in my new machine, it says that the product key cannot be used in this computer. The W7HB was purchased in December 2010 in Rs4200 and I have the Bill also.  My old laptop died and a necessary change in the motherboard which is not affordable at fresh city service center.
When I install the same windows in my new machine, it installs but activation fails.
I searched internet and found that this happens because my purchased windows was OEM edition which can not be installed 2nd time.
Is there some way I can get a new key that can be used in my new computer?  Can I send my invoice of purchase, original DVD and COSTS from my laptop to Microsoft to treat a new key/coa for me at some price that is lower than a purchase costs?

Sorry, but an OEM key cannot be used on another computer. Your best bet is to buy a "Full" version of Windows 7 for your new PC. The "full version" can be installed on a single computer at the time, but "IT MAY" be moved to another computer (if a long time as it was not installed on the current computer).

The OEM of Windows 8.0/8.1 license is related to the motherboard and not the hard drive, so you can reuse the new hard disk provided his will in the same computer.

About the old drive you need not to worry about the formatting as the old disk can never be reused. If you want to be sure, you can physically break the old disk with a hammer before throwing.

You can reinstall and transfer your Windows FPP retail as many times as you like - there is no limit.

However, there is a limit to how many times you can use the online activation. After awhile, you will need to use the phone activation when reinstalling.

Can move you to a new Windows 7 computer

If it's a full license or upgrade retail - Yes. You can move it to another computer as long as it is installed on a single computer at a time (and if it's a Windows 7 Upgrade version the new computer must have its own qualification license XP/Vista/7). The previous installation of Windows 7 on the old computer must be formatted or deleted. You will have to perhaps call Microsoft and explain what happened to complete activation. Turning it on the second computer will automatically be in effect 'disable' the license for the first computer. The key works with 32 and 64 bit, but can only be installed at a time.

If it's an OEM license - don't. OEM licenses, including Windows preinstalled on a computer before purchase and Windows purchased separately, are related to the first computer, they are installed on and cannot be transferred to another computer. To install Windows on another computer, you will need to buy another copy.

  • reuse the license of Windows XP from the old office to the new office

We have 4 old desktop computers with windows xp I want to reuse the license of Windows XP from the old office to the new office

I bought a HP desktop computer and dell preinstalled with Windows XP. The office has not worked for a few years, he has the processor are P4 and slow work.

I recently bought a desktop computer and wanted to know can I use the same license key to get Windows XP installed on my new desktop computer.

Note: I have lost my original installation of windows CD but have the office and Windows XP product code is available to me.

The old HP desktop and dell came with a license with the sticker on the side.

Any PC which came with a sticker with a key to activate product on it has a license that is related to this PC (and only this PC) for ever. It is not legal to install on a PC using the key videos from another PC.

If the PC you want to install XP on still has its sticker, then as much as you have a compatible installation XP CD, XP can be re-installed using the key on the sticker.

Only commercial versions of XP can be moved from one PC to another. With the commercial versions, the activation key came with the media, not on a label stuck on the PC.

I bought two upgrades Windows (in Windows 7) license under the terms of a special offer, but only found out later (and after the expiry of the offer) that the second purchase didn't pass, and so I don't have an activation key valid. The computer is now installed on is preinstalled with Windows 7, all you have to do is use the recovery partition to restore the Windows 7 computer then go forward to reinstall it on the other computer.

New computers coming often pre-installed with Windows 7 have what is called a recovery partition. This is used to reinstall an operating system in the case of a system failure. To access it, you need to start when you start your computer by pressing a function key. This can be either F1, F2, F9, F10, F11, F12 key DEL or tab. See the manual that came with your PC for instructions on how to reinstall Windows.

This is how the recovery partition is accessible to most popular brands...

For Dell, press F8 on the keyboard until the Advanced Boot Options menu appears on the screen.

For HP, press F11 directly after switching on the device

For LG, press F11 directly after switching on the device

For Toshiba, press and hold "0" BEFORE and during the power upward

For Acer, press and hold ALT + F10, as soon as you see the logo

For Asus, press F9, as soon as you see the Asus logo.

For Samsung, press F4 to the power upward...

For Fujitsu, press the F8 key directly after the power

Advent, restart your computer. Then, press F10 repeatedly until the message "Starting system recovery"

Sony VAIO, reboot and press "F8" or "F10" repeatedly until the screen "Advanced Boot Options".

If you had installed Windows 7 yourself, then proceed as follows:

Boot from the Windows 7 DVD

    Click Install now

    Accept the license agreement

When the option is displayed to select a type of installation, click (Custom advanced)

Select the disk partition where you want to install Windows 7 click Next.

You will receive the following warning:

The partition you have selected may contain files from a previous Installation of Windows. If so, these files and folders will be moved to a folder named Windows.old. You will be able to access the information in Windows.old, but you will be able to use your previous version of Windows.

(At all costs, do NOT click on anything in Format, deletion or Partition name.) So even do a custom installation, your personal files are still kept. Click OK

The installation program will now begin installation. During installation, your computer will be restarted several times.

Once the installation is complete, you can complete the Out of Box experience as the choice of your laptop, create a username, password, your time zone. You can then proceed to download the latest updates for Windows and reinstall your applications and drivers.

You can then retrieve your personal files from the Windows.old folder and reinstall all of your applications and drivers.

You can then move the other computer to Windows 8:

You can download it from there and use your product key to upgrade:

    Boost telephone:

    2. then press the ENTER"" key.

    3. Select your "country" in the list.

  • How to transfer a license of Windows 8

I have a pro license of Windows 8 and installed on an old laptop.

I want to install Windows 8 on my laptop today. Is there a way to disable the existing windows license and activate it on my new laptop?

I got this license in India and I reside now in Germany.

    Thank you

Well, the first thing you'd have to do is to withdraw the license of the current computer or at least uninstall the product key then proceed to upgrade the new laptop using the same key.

    On the old computer:

Press the Windows key + X

    Click prompt (Admin)

At the command prompt, type: slmgr.vbs - upk

Press enter, this will uninstall the product key of the computer and to the evaluation mode, you are now free to use it on another computer.

Update the computer to Windows 8 Pro:

Press the Windows key + X

    Click System

    On Windows, click the link:

Get more features with a new edition of Windows

Click on the "I already have a product key link.

Enter your product key and you will be promoted to the Pro.

Because the key was already in use, you may need to reactivate by phone:

    1. press the Windows key + X , and then click run, and then type: slui.exe 4

    2. then press the ENTER"" key.

    3. Select your "country" in the list.

    4. choose the option "activate phone".

    5. stay on the phone (do not select/press all options) and wait for a person to help you with the activation.

    6. explain your problem clearly to the support person.

In regards to the old computer, if it came with an earlier version of Windows such as Windows 7 or Vista, use the recovery partition to reinstall or to reinstall the older version of the original install media.

  • Transfer of license of Windows 8

I have a copy of Windows 8 Pro on my laptop and now I'm building a new PC witch not do any OS pre-installed on it. Can I just uninstall the copy of windows 8 of my laptop and install freely on my new rig? To install a Windows 8 upgrade version, you must already have Windows 7, Windows Vista, or Windows XP installed on your PC.

If you have formatted the drive until the upgrade of Windows 8 version has been installed, you will not be able to use your upgrade product key to activate Windows 8. To activate Windows 8, you will need to install your previous version of Windows, and then reinstall Windows 8. Help with the activation process, contact technical support.

  • How can I transfer a license of Windows 7 on a new computer? Step by step please

Hey guys, I just build my first computer and I don't want to use the HARD drive from my old computer to the new. I was wondering if there is some way I can transfer my Windows 7 license from the old computer to my new computer? I would be grateful if someone could answer with step by step instructions. Thanks a bunch!

    Hello!

If you have an OEM of Windows license (which is pre-installed when you purchased your PC) on the old computer and want to use it on a new computer (PC with another motherboard), it is not possible.

If you have a retail license (if you bought separately):

1 note your product key: use a program like Nirsoft Produkey to get
     http://www.NirSoft.NET/utils/product_cd_key_viewer.html
    2. on the old PC uninstall product key:
Start-> Accessories-> right click on command prompt and select "Run as Administrator"
slmgr.vbs /dlv---> to display the Activation ID for the installed version of Windows.
slmgr /upk ---> where is the extracted string in the message box that appears in the previous step
    3. on the new PC use this product key during installation or change it after installation
in the product key from the old computer with:
slmgr IPK , where is your product key.

  • What is the best way to transfer your license of Windows product key when you sell your older hardware?

    Hello

I wanted to just see what others suggest, when planning on the sale of your more old hardware to family or friends and ensure the maximum payment and trade-in value.  I have a laptop that I will probably remove the Windows operating system and installs an open source OS top. I intend to sell the laptop of the family, and I'm little warily to get paid as much as I want for her.  I think that one option could be to remove the product key sticker, until I paid, and then send the product to them key sticker separately or is it really important and should leave the sticker on the computer because the laptop was first recorded in my name and my address.  I read your suggestions on how to handle this matter. THX ;)

You are not supposed to do. License is part of the machine, remove the sticker isn't fair, since you sell the machine, the license must be sold with it.

In addition, you cannot use the license elsewhere.

The OEM of Windows 7 versions are identical to the versions commercial full license with the following exception:

-OEM versions don't offer any free direct support from Microsoft technical support Microsoft

-OEM Licenses are tied to the computer first you install and activate it on

-OEM versions allow all hardware upgrades except for an upgrade to a different model motherboard

-OEM versions does not move directly from an older Windows operating system

  • Transfer of license of Windows Vista on a hard disc nine

Hi all, I have a laptop HP that came with Windows Vista pre-installed. The hard drive failed (confirmed by running diagnostic BIOS) and I buy a new one today. My question is, how do I get my installation of Windows and the license on the new hard drive? My laptop came not with all drives I know (probably because it has a recovery partition).

In addition, the sticker on the base of the PC has faded with time, and I can't do the license number. Can it be retrieved by MS?

    Thank you

    Matt Harris

Contact your computer manufacturer and ask them to send a recovery disk/s Vista set.

Normally, they do this for a cost of $ small.

Normally, you don't have the product key with the manufacturer of recovery discs.

    See you soon.
