I tried to install iTunes, but he said that "the Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if you are running Windows in safe mode or if Windows Installer is not installed properly. Call support personnel. "They gave me similar messages by other programs I've tried to install as well.
Because I was not running Windows in safe mode in time, I assumed that the installer was not installed correctly. So I tried to download from here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/en/details.aspx?familyid=5A58B56F-60B6-4412-95B9-54D056D6F9F4&displaylang=en
But then I got error messages like "this update does not apply to your system" and "not enough memory is available to process this command." I tried all the links and none of them worked for me. I'm running a Vista Home Premium 64 bit, and I 2.38 GB of available RAM, so I don't think that the lack of memory is the problem here. What should I do?
1.] I had a previous version of iTunes, but I got rid of it with Revo Uninstaller.
I was looking around and I found this: http://www.vistax64.com/vista-installation-setup/96680-repair-windows-installer-service-vista-all-versions-2.html
I followed the direction of the last message (by F'n Vista) and changed the value of WOW64 Registry and now iTunes has installed perfectly and works now. I'll try to install other programs that I got hurt with previously. Thank you very much for your help! :)

Since a sound Vista machine and imported into my machine setup. I tried again with a reg. offered in one of the sons, all with no change.I tried to install version 4.5, but was unsuccessful (it looks like I got lucky there).May be related or yet another problem, whenever I have Windows Live Mail, a ope 'preparation for the installation of window lights up for about 15 seconds before disappearing and then my mail opens.I don't have a Vista CD. I tried to make it a point to restore in safe mode, and it is stuck in a loop (more than 12 hours). I tried to uninstall and it won't let me. Now I get "Windows Installer Service could not be accessed. This can occur if the windows installer is not installed properly. "If I turned off the computer and do not ne pas demarrer start in safe mode, shut up always on the original"failed to install ". I need help!
Windows restore points have never been of any property,
Images of a completely separate hard drive system would be easy to undo this question
It's so time spent to create system images before downloading and installing windows updates

I use Vista 64 Ultimate.
The last item I have installed is iTunes 8. I managed to install, but a few hours later the error pops up.
I can download is nothing more.
I can't install anything. When I go into computer management and try manually a start, I get this:
"Windows cannot start the Windows Installer service on Local computer. "Error 216: 0xd8.I can't update anything.
As I said earlier, when I try to download anything, it looks like it is downloading but no files appear in fact where they should be.
Please help, I have ALL my work on this computer and I didn't save anything. :(

We can try a few steps listed below and check.
Step 1:

If you want to scan your computer for malware and potentially unwanted on a Web site, please use the Windows Live OneCare safety scanner.
You can also run Anti-Malware on your computer. Follow the steps in this link:

To check if the Windows Installer service is set to Disable, follow these steps:
- Click Start, click run, type services.msc in the Open text box, and then click OK.
- In the list of Services (Local) , right-click Windows Installer, and then click Properties.
- If the drop-down list Startup type is set to the value off, select the Manual option in the drop-down list Startup type , Start the service and then click OK.

You can also try to download the latest Windows Installer and install it:

I seem to have many problems. I have problems with the installation of an update of Windows because I get an error code 80070641.
I am also unable to update Adobe Reader. I get a message to repair Adobe Reader software. When I do that, I get a message from 1500 failed.
I'm unable to install iTunes or upgrades of Java because of this problem of installation of Windows.
Please help me! I spent the days and hours searching for solutions and none of them do not seem to work.
Something that I see it is that I'm running Vista 64 bit and my system maintenance says 32-bit. I have Vista Home Premium.
The following might be able to help:
1. start > Search box > type services > press the Enter key > uac prompt > scroll to Windows Installer > under Startup Type, it should be MANUAL.
If not, right click on Windows Installer > properties > under Startup type, change it to manual > OKIt's working now?

I just want to be able to add my new printer, but I am at least the third person to use this computer. Any ideas on how to change the Administrator information or in order to bypass the message would be appreciated :)
I know that he used a CD image, you could burn and start (was a linux kernel) which allowed to replace the name of the admin account and password... I forgot all the details about it but, as it was last 5 years that I used it. It is possible. Just keep looking.
