The best way to protect your data is to export the data in each category of Palm Desktop in a separate folder on your PC.

Create a new folder on your PC somewhere that suits. Name it something like Palm Desktop data. Click on the link below and follow the instructions on this page for the export procedure.

    http://KB.hpwebos.com/wps/portal/KB2/common/article/28734_en.html
Make sure you only select everything for the beach in the export window.

With the data stored in the created folder, make a copy of this file and save it on a USB key, cd - rw or external hard drive.

Whenever you change in Palm Desktop, export the data that has been changed in this file and save again to external media.

With this process you can always import the data in Palm Desktop, whenever you have a problem with the data in Palm Desktop, or if your computer/hard drive/device crash.

Another backup option is to use NVBackup and backup on a SD card on your E2. Google search for NVBackup for PalmOS, and if you have a 1 GB SD card, you can save the map for disaster recovery.

Hello and welcome to the HP support community!

Make sure Palm Desktop or your E2 are both set to HotSync via the docking USB cable.   When I open Palm Desktop on my laptop and click the HotSync icon, then connections, I see these options:

    USB

    Network (TCP/IP)

    Serial

If you don't see these, then I suggest that you do a clean uninstall/reinstall of Palm Desktop.

USB for Palm Desktop 6.2.2 version works fine on my x 2 HP spectrum loan.

These instructions are for Vista, but should work for Win7.

You first need to you a copy of your data to have just in case something happens. You can find your data files by clicking on start-> Documents-> Palm OS Desktop. Highlight your Palm Desktop user name and right click and copy. Then go to the desktop of your PC, click on a blank spot block and select.

If this is the first time, you install Palm desktop and encounter a problem, go to the previous step. If you are not concerned about your data at this stage, go to the next step.

Now, you want to uninstall Palm Desktop and remove anything that has to do with Palm Desktop on your computer. Go to the following locations on the PC and delete the folders listed below. [C:\Program Files\Palm or C:\Users\[Vista Palm connection name] \appdata\local\virtualstore\Program Files\Palm or PalmOne C:\Users\[Vista Login Name] \appdata * note you may need to show hidden folders to join appdata. To do than to go into your control panel and open folder options. Go to tab and uncheck hide hidden files.

When you use Palm desktop 6.2, look in my documents or documents and delete the folder Office of PalmOS. It is the location of the PD 6.2 data files.

Once this is done, you will need to remove certain keys in the registry of your PC operating system.

Word of warning, go here and removing the wrong thing can cause your PC to start, crashing and deletion of programs and data. If you feel that you are not sure of yourself, see if you have a friend who can help you or a PC technician that you can pay to help you. This procedure will show them everything they need to remove. To make sure that we have a good copy of the current registry, we make a backup of the registry.

Go to start on your PC in the search box type "regedit.exe" without the quotes.

Point peak COMPUTER, go to file-> Export. Should appear with a save as box. Current place of residence is fine, must be within My Documents, or save to a location that you will remember. In the name of the file in low type "backup [todaysdate]" i.e. backup07072008. Then, the most difficult part.

The best way to ensure that your work with the right key, select the key that is installation quick palm and press delete on your keyboard. You will be asked, you of course. Say Yes. Do the same for all the keys below.

If you make a mistake, stop what you are doing. And call a PC technician. BUT do not turn off your computer.

The reg keys are as follows (Note: some of the theses reg keys will not be here, but if they remove them)

    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Palm Quick Install * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\PalmOne File Transfer * Robotics\Pilot Desktop HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm, Inc. * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmDesktopAutorun * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\palmOne * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmSource * HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\PalmSource or anything else that says palm

    Then, restart your computer.

Then, reinstall your Palm desktop from the CD (or a download) and do a hotsync. If request you a user name, enter the name that is on your device in the upper right of the screen to hotsync.

  • Smartphones Hotsync blackBerry problem

I was fortunately HotSync with Outlook contacts and the calendar until I created a new Outlook account (now running two accounts). When I plug the cable now, the phone displays the analog as clock normally, he did and asks if I want to toSync Media. The Blackberry Desktop Software says that it is no longer recognizes the phone and asked me to check the battery or update software. I am running the latest version of the software and the battery life is very good. Anyone know how I can fix the problem?

Thank you very much! I had to go through and reset all Desktop software, but it's all worked - thanks a lot!

The software does not start automatically - it used to, but it was some time ago. Could he have because I took it off the start menu when I turn on the computer...? I do not remember now, but it is not started automatically for a period of time.

  • Tungsten E power supply problem

    Welcome to the forums

Yours is a question of both parties. In response to the first, if the device will only fuel when it is plugged into the wall, then the battery is dead and must be replaced. You can contact the Palm to the 866-935-7256 for repair options. There are other places out on the internet such as PDAParts.com and UsedPDAParts.com who performs repairs on handheld computers, maybe cheaper. If you are handy with tools, PDAParts.com will sell you the battery and they have instructions step by step on their Web site and perhaps you could do it yourself. They also have you tell what tools you will need to do this successfully.

In response to your second question, you can copy the apps. Since a SD card in your device. How is typing on the clock in the upper left corner on the home page, then select copy. When it opens, select copy to and turn on phone. Less than from the copy, select map. Then select the application in the list that you want to copy and press on copy. That should put the App on your device. Remember, you have only little RAM available on the device and any application will run fine on the device of the card without installing it on the device.

  • Synchronization of TX for Tungsten E

Bought a TX and was able to synchronize all the old info from Tungsten E w/no problems. The repaired E and all data has disappeared. I tried to synchronize new Desktop OS success w/no E. If I reinstall old OS I will be able to run both BONES and possibly sync both for may I use the older operating system to synchronize the sounds of e. Tungsten as I talk in circles - hope someone can help.

    Thank you

    Roger

If you have given the eponymous TX HotSync and does not follow guide of Palm for the upgrade to a new device, your TX is then bound to start having problems.

Procedure for upgrading from a previous Palm for a new One: http://kb.palm.com/ and enter 12926 (general Upgrade guide) or 45175 (upgrade to Centro) in the "solution ID:" box (lower-right).

I suggest giving the E another name of HotSync and just beam all contacts or calendar on him the TX events!  You don't want to empty the entire contents of a Wifi and Bluetooth in the E (TX) device - it will cause a lot of problems such as accidents and freezing of the device.

  • Remove the old keyboard on the Tungsten E software

My main problem is that I can not remove old software keyboard that was loaded into my first hotsync for my Tungsten E Office of the Palm III. I read how to solve this problem if the computer platform is a PC, but have not read how this problem has been solved working from a platform Mac running Mac OS 10.4. Does anyone have a solution for this I would like to start using my wireless keyboard, I bought months ago with my Tungsten E - thx

Problem solved by CAT Palm... it took about an hour of hard-deleting the files in the backup, hard reset T E, and then reconfigure the T E after the hard reset but the wireless keyboard is now operational after a year of frustration, all the data and applications files are up-to-date - seems odd that new Palm software will not only have been written to replace the old software...

  • Tungsten E2: Setup will not install programs.

I use Windows 10. When I try to install an application using my Tungsten E2 Hotsync, the installer of the application goes through the motions, but does not install any programs on my E2 more.

Can I remove programs in my E2, but I can't install programs longer.

I tried to change the compatibility settings, but it did not work.

Any solution would be really appreciated.

Real Player is the file that you want to install?  What is its size?  More than 9.8 MB?

Perform a soft reset on your E2, and then try again.  Just press the small Reset button at the back.  No file will be deleted.

  • Tungsten T3 Hot Sync in Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit and WIndows XP mode

I've upgraded to Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit and now my Palm T3 will not be synchronized.  I downloaded desktop 4.1.4e 6.3 and 4.1.4. I tried all three in both windows 7 and windows XP mode that tells me is a 32-bit o/s but I'm really not sure.  I tried to hot sync in bluetooth in windows 7, as the T3 and laptop connect but he always tells me that the port is used by another program? Does anyone know what I have to do to get it to sync or am I've sentenced to throw my faithful T3 out? Any ideas?

Hello eaglesfan723 and welcome to the forums of Palm.

The Tungsten T3 HotSync driver is not 64-bit capable, this is why you can't get the T3 to HotSync.  Please read this thread to learn more about your options with Windows 7.

  • Palm Desktop 6.2.2 on Win8.1 synchronization but only showing no data

I'm so happy to have found this forum.  I didn't know there was so much love for the old Palm devices.  I started with a Palm V and worked my way up to a Tungsten T & palm Desktop 4.1.4 on WInXP and everything was so good that I resisted to move away from Palm Desktop, as it is just what I need.  But I just bought a new Win8.1 PC and am having a few problems that I hope someone here can help with.

I have been through help here on the installation of Palm Desktop 6.2.2 and win8 driver and installation has been very good and I couldn't hotsync via USB without apparent problems, except that Palm Desktop does not display any of my palm data!

When I ran hotsync (from cradle palm button) it asks a user name.  My Tungsten T was already used on my XP PC and was full of data.  If I entered the username of tungsten and hotsync continued.  It took a few minutes or so (as would be expected) and once finished he said that everything was ok.  I checked the logand Hotsync, it was confirmed that everything was synced properly - but when I open Palm Desktop there is no displayed data.

I then checked the data files in ...documents\Palm OS Desktop\... and addresses and calendar files are present and full of my data.  I've even opened in Notepad and could easily see loads of text ascii among all of the "junk" characters, so it seems that the synchronization process has worked correctly, but none of my Tungsten is displayed in Palm Desktop.

I then added an event on the agenda in Palm Desktop and another event the same day in tungsten.  I then did an another hotsync.  It was reported as a success, but the event of tungsten is not in the office, although the same office appeared on the tungsten.  If the synchronization process seems to work only one way!

I have had it before and would appreciate any help.

OK, try to use the "Palm Hotsync Setup" program found on this page.

    Since you're using an old T | T, maybe that's the answer.

There is a guide available on this site for the migration of data from Palm OS Android, if you are interested.  I made this jump years ago when webOS was finished.  You can find it on their homepage.
