Tutorial Oracle DB 64-bit

Hello

Where I can find tutorial install 64-bit DB Oracle 11g on Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit, and then connect to the Data Mover using the Oracle 32-bit client?

Installation of 64-bit and 32-bit Oracle is the same. The downloaded software is different.
All in one box?
1 install Oracle database 64-bit server in oracle home 1, create the db from there
2. install 32-bit client Oracle in oracle home 2, update the tnsnames.ora to be able to connect to the database running since within the oracle home 1
3. in the installation of Peopletools, when prompted, give the client 32 bits for AppDesigner and DMS bin folder.

    Hi MK.

The file's name is correct. I installed Oracle 12 c on 64-bit Linux.

According to my knowledge, is the reason for the name of amd.

    AMD was the first to release 64-bit x 86 (x 86-64) processors.

The AMD64 architecture has been positioned by AMD from the beginning in a scalable way to add 64-bit computing capabilities to the x 86 existing architecture, unlike the approach of Intel to create a whole new 64-bit with IA-64 architecture. The first AMD64-based, the Opteron processor was released in April 2003. Indeed, in the core 64-bit support "x86_64" is called to make reference to the fact that the AMD and Intel (and others) are implementing these instructions.

I work on Sun Solaris Sparc 64-bit system, EBS R12.1.3.

I think your EBS installation is 64-bit.

When I apply the patches to applications, we go with 32-bit tasks. Even when we walked past java, we used 32-bit java.

If 64-bit patches are not available, then you can go safely with 32-bit tasks. JRE/JDK update is an exception, and this explains why he had to go with 32-bit.

Now, I have to apply some opatches at Oracle 10.1.2 and 10.1.3 respectively, until I have to download patches-32-bit or 64-bit?

Download patches for "Oracle Solaris on SPARC (64-bit)".

  • Oracle 10g 32-bit (win 2003) to Oracle 11 g 64-bit (Win 2008)

    Hello

I am a beginner on Oracle DB side. I have 2 Windows servers

"Win Server A - current Prod" whose configuration is as follows

    O / s: win 2003 R2 sp2 (32-bit o/s)
    Oracle DB: 10.2.0.4 32bits
    DB Dimensions: 50 GB
    NLS_CHARACTERSET: AL32UTF8

"Win Server B - to be new Prod" whose configuration is the following
    O / s: win 2008 R2 sp1 (64-bit o/s)
Installation 11.2.0.3 planning software 64-bit db
    NLS_CHARACTERSET: AL32UTF8

I need to move/migration/upgrade my db 10g and 11g db on the latest version of win o/s on ServerB.

What are the options I have for db upgrade? After a little research on Google I did, it is what I found

    (1) OPTION 1: install 11.2.0.3 software on server B, create empty db, then take datapump exp of patterns non-system (from 10 g) and import it on 11 g
    (2) OPTION 2: do something through clone RMAN... not 100% sure how it works and what great advantage I have is going to get compared to OPTION 1
    (3) OPTION 3: install 10.2.0.1 on 'ServerB', upgrade to 10.2.0.4 via the Group of hotfixes. Then using the upgrade database Wizard, perform an upgrade of 10.2.04 to 11.2.0.3. I don't know if 10.2.0.4 is compatible with Win 2008 R2 SP1.

Option 3 is seems to be safer and better.

Can someone give me some advice, metalink not. who can put me on the right track. NLS_Characterset remains the same.

Would there be a problem due to the fact that 10g we use is 32 bit and we would go to 64-bit Oracle.

    Concerning

    Learner

The simplest option uses the Data Pump utilities.

If your application uses only some of the schema, export/import only those schema.

Please do it on a test first, configuration so that you can test the connection and the behavior of applications.

    Thank you.

No problem with 32-bit client (well at least not because of the length of Word anyway).

And if you have both, it will be relatively easy to test with a small application of demonstration OIC/ProC (no sqlplus as it is not a very precise measurement tool), but I wouldn't worry even on this. I install the application, test it and see if she performs acceptably. If so, then I should stop worrying and go out for a beer.
