  Hello

  as the title suggests, how can I get a horizontal rule to run across a block of two columns of text?

  I had no longer the rule applies only to the text entered. was a gap corresponding to the gutter of the column;

  or I had the value 0 mm/px column gutter and manually set the carriage returns to give the impression of a gutter.

  There must be a better way?

  I will attach a JPEG of my various options.

  Hope I was clear enough. Any help is appreciated.

  • You can put the rule in a paragraph that is spanning columns.
  • Or you can expand nets paragraph by inputing without values left and right (by example-5 mm)
  • Or you can use a table instead.
  • Or you can use negative left and right intend for text but extend the rule at the end of the frame.

  Never set a carriage return manually.

  I think that it can be done if the box is configured to have Rich Text Formatting.

  I'm an inveterate keyboarder (I drive stick, too... hmm... must be a techno-phobe...) and find that when I typed the text in the text box, I have to use my mouse to move actively click on one of the other tools to make sure my keyboard controls do not appear in the box.

  Even if my cursor is on an open space, not all of the image, and I click it don't help.

  So, is there a way to "leave" a text box using keyboard shortcuts?

  Highlight the field and in the fonts Palette, you can choose a justification. It is probably set to left midfield. Change it up.

• How to make a one column instead of two text box?

  I inherited this document to someone else, and for some reason any instead of doing the entire page 2 columns, they made the two columns of text individual boxes. How to set the number of columns in a textbox control. I know how to adjust the columns on the entire page, but I don't know how you do in a text box.

  You can set an individual text by choosing object > text frame Options. On the general tab, change the number of columns.

• InDesign CS4 crashes when converting 1-column text box with a drop shadow to the col-2 (or more)

  I use InDesign CS4 in Windows XP Pro 64-bit, 6 GB of RAM. If I create a column 1 text box, fill it with a color, add a drop shadow, and then add text, everything is fine. If I try to change it to 2-columns (or), InDesign freezes/crashes. I thought at first that it is perhaps because the case was shot, but it happens even if the case is not turned. If I remove the shadow and try to change it, it works.

  Anyone know why this is happening or if there is a known bug or fix?

• It is possible to select a column of text tabbed without selecting the adjacent column of the tabulated text?

  I have two columns of text created with tabs. I want to select the first column without selecting the second column (I want to format the first column differently). Hope it would be possible to drag a marquee on it and have it select but apparently not. Will do it line by line, but for later use, would like to know if there is a way.

  Creates the tabbed table text would allow you to do. It will give you much more control over the formatting as well.

  To change the text tabs in a table, select the text with tabs and choose table > convert text to table.

  Why the text in column 1 jump to the top of the column 2 and leave a space?

  The two top lines in column 2 must be inserted at the bottom of column 1, but they jump to the top of 2.

  If I add returns from cart at the end of the two lines at the top of column 2 of form magically in column 1...

  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

• Even the dimensions of the text box

  In an InDesign document, I have two unequal size text boxes.  For the alignment of the layout and distribution reasons, I wish they were the same size.  To do this, I want to my making my small text box the same size as my largest area of text.

  Put apart using the 'Info' feature and manually doing my little box the exact dimensions of big boy, is there a way to do this quickly?

  Seems like a small matter, I know, but I wonder about this often enough during the design that I thought I would ask to get out of my mind.

  What happened to just remove the small box and replace it with a copy of the larger box?

  And do not drag a box to the right size. Just select the large box, look at the width and height of the control panel (window > control) and type or paste these numbers in the fields width and height for the smallest box.

• Center the text vertically in the text box

  When you open a text box how do Center you the text in the middle of the top to bottom (Pacific), not from left to right. The text begins immediately in the upper left corner. I need it in the Center with a size of predefined text box, so that if you drew a line through the center of the box from left to right, or half top of the letters above the line and the lower half would be lower than the median line. In other words it should be the same distance above the words and the top edge of the text box, on the bottom of the text box in the Center.

  Point text when the text is not in a box. When you select the "T" tool, click once and start typing. The paragraph text is when you click and drag to create a box. Since you have already typed what you wanted, you can always change to Point text with a right click on the text layer in the layers panel and click "Convert the text to Point".
