Type of certificate for ASA VPN IPSEC
Hi all
I'm looking to set up an IPSec VPN connection that will authenticate users by certificate only. I configured everything successfully with the local AAA login, but seeks to convert a signed certificate and generate certificates user for users that are not part of a company or Active Directory.
So here's my question. What kind of certificate I buy (lets say VeriSign aka Symantec)? And if I want to only use this certificate for my VPN and its customers, can I install it on the Cisco ASA and generate user certificates, or should I set up a Windows Server with CA and create all the certificates on this machine?
My goal is to install the agent AnyConnect 3.1.x on laptop computer of the user, install the certificate user myself. No webVPN or on behalf of the user. I tried the local certification authority in the ASA in a dev environment, but have had no luck so I thought I'd just signed good immediately.

If the VPN is not only used for internal staff, and then always opt for a public certificate. If you ask other users to install your root certificate, you ask them to allow you to be a man in the Middle for all their traffic. It's nothing that needs to be done.
Registration is generally just to configure the trustpoint and install the certificate. It is very likely that the certification authority uses an intermediate certification authority, so you should install that also. (even keep the AC have howtos on various platforms).

I want to apply AnyConnect VPN of RA IPSec on SAA with the users that can connect using cards to chip. So I need to install digital certificates on SAA.
Follows 4 things of my contacts (who is on holiday and so I have to find via this portal what exactly what I need to do with them)
1 root-ORG - CA.cer - Root CA from our own CA .cer format
2 Proc-ORG - CA.cer - he says that it is of "issued by: root-ORG-CA. Do not know what exactly is this certificate. Again the extension is .cer.
3 ASA - CERT.cer - here, he argues that it is "issued by: Proc-ORG-CA. The name I guess that's the identity certificate should I install on ASA. Once the extension is .cer
4 ASA - Priv.key - it is the private key in the .key file, I can read in Notepad.
Now according to my knowledge goes, I think: I have to install the root-ORG - CA.cer on SAA. Then, I need some kind installation private key + certificate of individual or combined identity. But I am confused how to proceed
(a) what could be the Proc-ORG - CA.cer ?
(b) what is the exact order in which I should install things?
(c) is the most convenient for these things or paste content in CLI ASDM?
(d) for each file what extensions do I need? I need to convert certificates in other formats?

Here are answers to your questions:
a. Proc-ORG - CA.cer seems to be the server intermediate CA that signs the certificate and it has been authorized by your certification authority root to do it.
b. you must first import the root CA, then intermediate authority and finally the ASA CA
c. you can do both using ASDM and CLI. However, I personally prefer CLI
d. REB is good for the intermediate and root. For SAA, if you RECs and a private key, you must convert the pkcs12 format.

Well, I think it is a NAT ordering the issue.
Basically as static and this NAT rule-
NAT interface dynamic obj - 0.0.0.0 source (indoor, outdoor)
are both in article 1 and in this article, it is done on the order of the rules so it does match the dynamic NAT rule rather than static because that seems to be higher in the order.
To check just run a 'sh nat"and this will show you what order everthing is in.
The ASA is working its way through the sections.
You also have this-
NAT source auto after (indoor, outdoor) dynamic one interface
which does the same thing as first statement but is in section 3, it is never used.
If you do one of two things-
(1) configure the static NAT statement is above the dynamic NAT in section 1 that is to say. You can specify the command line
or
(2) remove the dynamic NAT of section 1 and then your ASA will use the entry in section 3.
There is a very good document on this site for NAT and it is recommended to use section 3 for your general purpose NAT dynamic due precisely these questions.
It is interesting on your ASA 5505 you duplicated your instructions of dynamic NAT again but this time with article 2 and the instructions in section 3 that is why your static NAT works because he's put in correspondence before all your dynamic rules.
The only thing I'm not sure of is you remove the dynamic NAT statement in article 1 and rely on the statement in section 3, if she tears the current connections (sorry can't remember).
Then you can simply try to rearrange so your static NAT is above it just to see if it works.

ASA VPN IPSec: MTU or CFG error Question?

I have a strange problem... If I created a tunnel IPSec the ASA vs, it goes up but doesn't work if the package + / less 150 bytes... case of exceeded the size of the packets, the ASA didn't send to client IPSec; The size is related to the type of configured tunnels:

Can you confirm that you have 'enable ip-comp' in your config vpn file? If so, that que desactiver turn off and you should be ok.
Better yet, go to 8.0 (5).

I have 2 questions about vpn IPsec
I have an asa, vpn ipsec (l2l) running on a remote site with 192.168.0.0/24 network
1 > I can ping 192.168.0.1 but not 192.168.0.111. I had observed "Recv errors" whenever I have ping to 192.168.0.111.
I had observed recevied errors of "crypto ipsec to show his" exit; but not because the tunnel to reconnect (after timeout) and w/o any changes made to the configuration.
What could be the cause and how can I fix just in case where the returned errors? I can't find much info on "recv errors."

There is not a lot we can do here in what concerns this isuse.
You can talk to your service provider and see if they do not modify the packets somehow.
Also ask them to check for any problem on the circuit.

VPN IPSEC ASA with counterpart with dynamic IP and certificates
Hello!
Someone please give me config the work of the ASA for ASA Site to Site IPSEC VPN with counterpart with dynamic IP and authentication certificates.
He works with PSK authentication. But the connection landed at DefaultRAGroup instead of DefaultL2LGroup with certificate
authentication.
Should what special config I ask a DefaultRAGroup to activate the connection?

The ASA uses parts of the client cert DN to perform a tunnel-group lookup to place the user in a group. When "peer-id-validate req" is defined the ASA also tries to compare the IKE ID (cert DN) with the actual cert DN (also received in IKE negotiation), if the comparison fails the connection fails. know you could set "peer-id-validate cert" for the time being and the ASA will try to compare the values but allow the connection if it cannot.
In general I would suggest using option "cert."
With nocheck, we are simply not strict on IKE ID matchin the certificate, which is normally not a problem of security :-)

I am at a loss, I can connect VIA VPN and Ping inside the IPs (192.168.1.2) and outside (4.2.2.2) IPs of the remote VPN client, but can't surf WWW. Inside the network, all users have WWW access and the network is fine. I'm new on the revisions to ver 8.3 and don't see what I'm missing?

Its propably because you do not have a DNS server configured for VPN users. Try this command:

Setup for use with Cisco Anyconnect VPN IPsec
So, I had trouble setting up VPN on our ASA 5510. I would use IPsec VPN so that we don't have to worry about licensing issues, but what I have read you can do with and always use Cisco Anyconnect. My knowledge on how to set up VPN especially in iOS version 8.4 is limited, so I've been using a combination of command line and ASDM.
I am finally able to connect from a remote location, but once I log in, nothing else works. What I've read, you can use IPsec for client-to-lan connections. I use a pre-shared for this. Documentation is limited on what should happen after have connected you? Shouldn't be able to local access on the vpn connection computers? I'm trying to implement work. If I have VPN from home, should not be able to access all of the resources at work? According to me, because I used the command-line as ASDM I confused some of the configuration. In addition, I think that some of the default policies are confused me too. So I probably need a lot of help. Here is my current setup with the changed IP address and other things that are not related to deleted VPN.
NOTE: We are still testing this ASA and is not in production.
Any help you can give me is greatly appreciated.

I would recommend buy AnyConnect Essentials. The cost of the license is nominal - list of US $150 for the 5510. (piece number L-ASA-AC-E-5510 =)
Meawwhile you can use the Cisco VPN client inherited with IKEv1 IPSec remote access VPN using profiles *.pcf.
I believe you can also use the client Anyconnect client SSL or DTLS transport access remotely (non-IPsec) without having to buy the license Anyconnect Essentials for your ASA focus.
As an aside, note that if you want to use AnyConnect Mobile (e.g. for iPhone, iPad, Android, Blackberry etc.clients) you will also get the additional license for it (L-ASA-AC-M-5510 =, also price US $150)

How to move the ASA of IPSEC VPN via UDP to TCP
I have a client who has a remote desktop with 2 PCs than VPN in to their location of HQ. Previously, two computers where in different places now that they are in the same place. Both PC's are able to successfully establish a VPN connection to the CA by using the Version of the Client VPN Cisco 5.0.07.0290, but only 1 system actually passes the traffic and is able to access the resources at Headquarters.
I asked another engineer, and they said ' you must configure IPSEC over TCP or use Anyconnect to have multiple clients behind the same PAT' public ed remote ip address... ". ». I would go with IPSEC for TCP connection, so I won't have to uninstall the old client and go through the process of installing the AnyConnect client. I have an AAA-problem I hope to have a few problems help.
The problem ultimately is: how the ASA via ISE send Radius Access requests to different given OTP backends provided a connection to a certain group of Tunnel.
BACKGROUND:
I'll try to give you a brief picture of the scenario, this is what I currently have.

The choice corresponds to different groups of profiles/Tunnel connection.
Today, all authentication requests go directly to the OTP server and authorization goes directly to the AD via LDAP.
THE PROBLEM:
The problem occurs when I try to put in the ISE in the mixture.

QUESTION:
The seams, that I can achieve what I want by looking at the access request attribute Radius "Tunnel Group Name" and forward my request to different backends OTP for the authentication part therefore in theory. But, how do I actually go ahead and set that up in ISE?
I don't see this attribute when I look at the details of Radius Authentication for an authentication AAA of the ASA at the ISE.

I think you can hit the following problem:
CSCtz49846: ISE does not match the condition with VPN 146 Tunnel-Group-Name attribute
This issue is not specific to this attribute, as shown in the solution shown in the accompanying note
Workaround
Ensure that the attribute name does not include a '.' character. This also applies to some of the existing attributes in the dictionary of Cisco-VPN300. Attribute names should be changed so that they do not include a "." character.

Hi, we purcahsed a new ASA 5505 and try to configure IPSEC VPN via ASDM; I simply run the wizards, installation vpnpool, split tunnelling, etc.
I can connect to the ASA using the cisco VPN client and internet works fine on the local PC, but it can not access the local network (can not impossible. ping remote desktop). I tried the same thing on our Production ASA(those have both Remote VPN and Site-to-site VPN working), the new profile, I created worked very well.

Captures we can see packets going from the pool to the internal LAN, but we do not reply back packages.
The routing must be such that for 172.16.10.0/24 packages should reach the inside interface of the ASA.
On client machines or your internal LAN switch, you need to add route for 172.16.10.0/24 pointing to the inside interface of the ASA.

We finished our from the ASA Firewall VPN client. Is it possible to authenticate users with certificate. Certificate itself being our ASA server.
Our requirement is to have:-user must use one laptop company provided for the VPN connection. I think it's possible with certificate OmniPass. Y at - it another way to have this control.

It is indeed possible to authenticate your users to VPN client with certificates and it will prevent guests who do not have the certificate installed on their computer to connect.
In the subject to use the ASA CA Local, I advise you to use only if you have Anyconnect client and not the classic IPSEC client.
The local ASA CA has been implemented for use for WebVPN and Anyconnect sessions only so I advise you to use an external CA if your customer is the IPSEC one.

Cisco's VPN IPSec client for LAN connectivity
I've looked through further discussions and were not able to find a clear answer on this, so I apologize if this is a duplicate question.
I have the client setup Cisco VPN on an ASA 5505 with tunneling split. I can connect to the VPN very well. I can access the internet fine. I can't get the LAN, however. I try to do a ping, telnet, rdp, etc devices on the side LAN of the firewall without a bit of luck. I have torn down and configure the VPN several times via the CLI and I even used various configurations by using the wizard, all this without a bit of luck. Any help would be appreciated.

I tried to configure SHA256 integrity for IPSEC IKEV2 and SHA256 proposal wasn't available, the version that we run is 9.0 (3). The model of the SAA is 5540 (Legacy). Could someone please help us identify if the same support in the firewall of the inheritance if we improve the IOS in 9.1 (6) as this is the last version available for the box.

Here's my situation:
I am trying to connect a client IPSec VPN via an ASA 5505 to an other ASA 5505. In fact, I can make the connection to the VPN but all accesses are blocked (ping or IP access).
When I use a router ISP directly or at home, I have no problem (ping and IP access follow the firewall rules). Connection and access are allowed.

I've recently updated 8.2.5 ASA 8.4.6 and 9.2.4. An another ASA 5505 v8.2.5 works well in both way (via ASA VPN connection) and the VPN through ASA1 this ASA.
I have tried many solution to solve the problem (nat/ipsec static inspection), but I failed to solve it. I tried to see asp in ASA1 drop, but I was right to drop only "nat-xlate-failed".
