Ubuntu 9.1 bridged network

I can't get the bridged network setting to work with 64 bit Ubuntu 9.10 Server. I can't ping my host OS machine, it works if I select NAT.

I need filled since I want someone outside my network to see the machine.

I use 7.0.0 - 203739 OF WMware workstation and Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit as host operating system.

I've attached a screen shot of the Ubuntu network.

Here are my settings in Windows 7:

  • Bridged Networking problem - comments may be crazy, but nothing else can connect

I have a few bridged networks confusion works correctly under VMWare Workstation 11. Installation is VMWW running on a Windows Server R2 2012 host with a Ubuntu LTS 14.04 server prompt.

Windows Server has a physical NETWORK adapter that is configured with two IP addresses.  For the sake of argument, that I will call the first IP 1.1.1.1 (255.255.255.192 subnet mask) and the IP secondary 2.2.2.1 (netmask 255.255.255.224).  Real IP addresses are all publicly routable.

In my computer, the network configuration is set to "bridged".  Inside of the Ubuntu VM, networking is defined as follows:

    2.2.2.2 IP address

    255.255.255.224 subnet

    Gateway 2.2.2.1

I can ping successfully the Ubuntu prompt from the Windows Server and other computers on the Internet, but cannot connect to any other service on the client (for example, SSH, HTTP, etc.), either from the host machine or any computer on the Internet. Note that both hosts and guests have their respective firewall disable for the moment.

However, if I change the VM network config in my computer to be "NAT" and set the networking of Ubuntu on DHCP, all services on the client are accessible on the host Windows (for example, SSH, HTTP etc.) via a 192.168.x.x dealt with this workstation DHCP assigns the guest.

I'm a bit puzzled as to why these services would be accessible to the NAT address, but not on the static IP address public when the latter may be ping from the host and other machines?  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

OK, managed to solve it with a violin.  The resolution was to create a new virtual network adapter in the virtual network Editor.  It has been bridged, with the physical NETWORK adapter selected in the drop-down list 'Bridge '.  In this case, this has created VMnet2.  Then in the VMWare Workstation GUI, I edited the network adapter settings to select VMNet2 in Network Configuration options.

No idea why it did not work with VMNet0 at first, but still...

  • Bridged network

    Hey everybody,

Is it possible to fill the 2 PCs/networks with different network ranges?

    Let's say that

    IP: 192.168.100.3

    PC 2 Brigde

    PC 3 Wifi

    IP: 143.23.43.2

Now I need to connect 1 PC and PC 3 on 2 PC with a bridged network adapter. I don't know how to set up.

    Hello

The routers are much more easily and they don't cost much.

  • Ethernet link to the bridge network and server

I'm not an expert and hope that I do not use the wrong terminology, but I have an intermittent fault which has become more or less permanent. My major son put up for me a computer with Windows 8 as its operating system and a server for storage, connected by a cable to transfer files. The computer has its own router, with which it communicates with the local network based on a router and modem in the next room. There is a network bridge to access the internet. Initially (January 2013) it worked well. Sometimes, I couldn't connect to the server immediately, but simply another attempt was enough to access it, and he had no problem with the internet connection.

More recently (late July and August 2013), it became more difficult to access the server and now seems permanently impossible, the server simply showing with a red X across as one of the devices on the computer page. The Internet becomes also more difficult, although there is no need for the server or available to arrive and still connects for a short while before disconnect. In July, the internet can usually be restored by turning off the modem and the router, and when they were on again to restart Windows 8, but that no longer works. I tried to reset the computer to the previous settings, but without success. I also tried the diagnostics tools, but generally, they fail to address the issues identified, except for an occasional brief of the internet. Until today, it has always been possible to show the LAN on the network page, including the iMac computer and printer next to the router and the modem, but today the network folder showed most of the time as empty, any diagnosis I ran in the attempt to identify and connect to the local network, which today needs to manually connect even if automatic connection is checked. Conversely the iMac can still see the computer Windows 8 when he is awake through the LAN, but only in January, he sees the server.

The error or the troubleshooting messages that have been published are (1) to the server: the (network) path could not be found, or the name is already used. The IP given my son is 192.168.0.101, I tried and failed to find in the browser of my iMac, which does not suggest that it is already in use. Even if it wasn't a valid IP address, it would not have worked between January and July.
    (2) for internet access: reset of the card of network bridge that can force a reboot with a reference to the AREA of PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_ that I can't continue without an internet connection. unresolved issues can include one or all of the connection between your modem cable, router or point of access and the Internet is broken. "Network bridge" is not a valid IP configuration. the default gateway is not available. The computer in the other room has had uninterrupted access to the internet, so it is unlikely that the router or the modem it are at fault, who leaves the access point or the configuration of the network gateway. I found some of these error messages in the discussions on Windows 7, but not for Windows 8.

Finally, the watch status bar above all a network with limited access and a connected LAN ethernet bridge, which is not enough to bring me to the server or the internet; However, today the necessary local network setting procedure of discovery of devices running and by ticking the automatic connection to the LAN router in the next room, although both had previously been functioning. Is this the consequence of Windows updates downloaded and installed since January? Very briefly this afternoon after having restorng the settings they had on August 5, the convenience store was able to solve the problem of the bridge network, only for access to the internet to be cut shortly afterwards for lack of a valid IP, a problem solved configuration a few minutes before. Would it be possible to obtain internet access directly via the LAN network without the need for a network bridge, or is it a mistaken assumption on my part? Even if this is right, remains the problem of access to the server. Any thoughts anyone?

    Hi Clive,.

If you have included a lot of details about this question in the thread, I was unable to get a clear picture of the network configuration you have. What is the topology of the network that you set up?               How the server is connected to the network? What is a Client-Server network model you have?

If Yes, then this problem is better suited for it professionals about TechNet Forums that are well equipped with the knowledge of Client-Server network issue. Please post your question in the TechNet Windows 8 IT Pro Networking Forums from this link:

  • cannot change the network not jumpered it is no host not bridged network adapters

Hey guys, wondering that if you can help me with this, I've upgraded to windows 10 and have this annoying issue in vmware workstation 11

I want to VMnet2 only use my MIFI wifi and not my regular internet so I went to the virtual network editor like I did before and added vmnet2 but when I check the box for height to select the wifi it says "can't change network to not bridged there is no host not bridged network adapters" which has left me speechless >. <

Just a guess. Check vmnet0 (default bridged network) to see if it uses a dedicated, network adapter or is it still set to automatic.

  • Bridged Networking crushed Vmware Fusion 6.0.4 - replicable

I use the version of 30 trial of VMWare Fusion 6.0.4.  I can't sign up and download a .zip file officially, because I have to register the product first, and it won't let me register the serial number of the trial.  I won't pay until I am sure that it works for my use case.  So I have to resort to these forums.  Here's my reproducible bug:

I'm running a Windows 7 VM.  I used the import function to import this machine virtual of Parallels Desktop version 9.  It starts and works fine as long as I'm using NAT networking (shared with the host).  As soon as I switch to Bridged networking, it starts and runs for about 15 to 30 seconds, then crashes.

I used "Information Support" to create a zip of debugging information file and he have attached to this post.  Help!  I need to use Bridged networking.

    Hi petec35_2!

It seems that your guest uses frames (or Jumbo Packet), and which is currently to trigger this problem in Fusion.

To work around the problem: in the guest Device Manager, find the E1000/E1000e NIC, then a parameter in its property page should allow you to disable the Jumbo Frames/Jumbo Packet.

    See you soon,.

  • No VMnet0 or bridged network

I installed VMware Workstation on a system Windows 8 10.0.1.  When I open the virtual network Editor, there is no VMnet0, and I can't create a network with the bridge enabled.  I get the following error:

Cannot change the full network: there is no host not bridged network adapters.

Networking works very well on the host system.  I found nothing useful in the documentation that guess vmnet0 is and functional very well as a bridged network and Googling has not given anything useful yet.

    Thank you

I'll check the observer of events and if appropriate try to re - install with McAffee turned offshore.

As soon as I saw "McAffee" (it's actually, McAfee) I Wen ugh!  IMO McAfee is one of the worst products personal computer firewall and AntiVirus is there and I never use it on personal computers.   You need to maybe actually completely uninstall McAfee and then install VMware Workstation.  Then test it before installing your 3rd part AntiVirus/Firewall, McAfee I hope not!

  • Bridged networking: host and invited him IPs?

Topology: physical router (IP 192.168.1.25/24) connects to the host (IP 192.168.1.1/24) run a virtual machine (IP 192.168.1.2/24).

Question: using cargo network, the virtual machine cannot connect through physical NIC in the host to the router - all are on the same subnet.

I use network bridge to connect to a virtual server to a physical network, but I'm confused about which IP addresses in use on the map the host's physical NETWORK and virtual NIC the guest to my knowledge, as well the host physical NIC and virtual NETWORK card of the guest OS must be on the same subnet. If I assign 192.168.1.1/24 to the physical NETWORK adapter on the machine host and 192.168.1.2/24 to the virtual NETWORK adapter inside my guest operating system virtual (using network properties), the guest operating system must therefore able to communicate with the outside real network. But it may not. However, I have noticed that if I use "Obtain an IP address automatically" for my NIC host, it is assigned an automatic address 169.254.1.1 (an APIPA address). My virtual network adapter has been assigned the address 192.168.1.2/24 inside my guest operating system. And it can communicate with a router that the host computer is connected to an address of interface of 192.168.1.25/24. That makes no sense.

My understanding is that when using bridged networking, the guest operating system has a virtual NETWORK adapter that connects to a virtual switch (VMnet0). The host operating system has a real physical NETWORK adapter that connects to the virtual switch (VMnet0). Then, it follows that the host's physical NETWORK and virtual guest NIC card must be assigned in the same subnet IP addresses to communicate? However, as stated, with these settings the guest operating system cannot communicate through physical NETWORK card from the host to the outside world. But when I assign physical NETWORK adapter of the host, an automatic address (when ends up being 169.254.1.1 when checked with ipconfig), work of communication. Can someone explain this?  Thank you very much!

Only bridged connections are used without NAT.

I asked you to try this... you do not have.

Eagle server running a DHCP server, but the host PC needs to get an IP address before it connects.

You can't run a DHCP server as a guest (fedora) and serve as the host. You must use a fixed IP address, which is reserved for the host and the host running the dhcp server.

No VLAN is used (except 1 VLAN by default of course). There is no security or MAC filtering on the server of the Eagle.

VLAN is not supported in Server 2, with the exception of the static (based port).

In fact... I think I'll ask - why?  If you run a guest as a service, you should look at using the free VMware Server product instead of VMware Workstation.   VMware Server is designed to run guests in the background.

I would like to delete the default gateway hardcoded on your comments so that it does not cause problems if you fall in network work bridge.

What antivirus do you use on your host and guest?

There is a host of Vista - but I don't see the typical IPV6 entires in the output of the command ipconfig/all.  I just want to confirm that there is a reason for that (you manually disabled IPV6 or something)?

What is the 'virtual SafeNet QuickSec card' for your host?  What is a VPN product?  Features of firewall?  I'm here, but if you have the time, maybe try to uninstall this product to see if it makes a difference.  Here is another post about SafeNet for a different problem, but maybe try the suggestion it will help: http://communities.vmware.com/thread/11884

The host can ping the guest by IP and get exposed by the guest ports. It is ok. The host can also get to other hosts, local and internet addresses.

The customer can get to other hosts, local and internet addresses. However, he cannot get host (by IP or name, although only of intellectual property issues).

Address 192.168.1.103, the host is assigned by the DHCP server on the local network. the 192.168.1.109 prompt.

Here are the details of host networking:

The host has a few network cards installed:

-Wireless generally (in use and use in this case)

-Wired (sometimes in use, don't use it in this case)

-VPN (not using it right now)

-WLAN (not using it right now)

In addition, the Windows Teredo tunneling ipv6 stuff and whatnot. Seems you can't throw a rock here without hitting another virtual network card these days :-/

I installed the VMWare Additions on the guest.

I need for the guest to see the host (and, more specifically, the services on ports exposed on the host), the host, see comments. How to make that happen?

You can use "bridged", no need to use custom. It is a good practice to change the automatic bypass for VMnet0 at a fixed adapter as you.

Change it to bridged, now and the status report.

  • The bridge network to the ethernet ports

I have an Airport Extreme base station for my wireless at home. The problem I have is that the base station is not near a few features, that I need to hard wire. I read that you can set up a network bridge and if I understand correctly, this concept, it's like setting up of another wireless device, but this second device provides you with the required Ethernet ports for connectivity. Is it possible to do with the Airport Express secondary device?

Most of the other posts that I read said to extend the wireless range, but the range of my base station is not the issue. I just need a couple on the way ports. I've heard this can slow down the entire network however. Is this feasible? All known reserves? Advice is appreciated.

    Yes

Most of the other posts that I read said to extend the wireless range, but the range of my base station is not the issue. I just need a couple on the way ports. I've heard this can slow down the entire network but

It all depends on if you configure the AirPort Express to "extend" the network... which will lower the maximum speed potential of the network by all 40-50%...or...whether that you set up the base AirPort Express for simply to 'join' the network... which causes a decrease in the speed of the network... but it will provide 2-port Ethernet for wired devices.

If you need more than 2 ports Ethernet on the Express, you can add an Ethernet 5 port, 8-port switch, etc., to create as many ports as you need.

Don't know what kind of speed you need for the Ethernet ports, but they are limited to 100 Mbps, then that would be the maximum speed available ports Ethernet on the Express.
